61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | SuperNET | MOBILE MESSAGING | OPAL DRIVE | HTML5 WALLET on: January 16, 2015, 10:53:52 PM
I would like to proudly announce that Opal is releasing colored coins, effective immediately.

Colored coins allow you to create an on blockchain asset, which has tons of potential use cases.

The implementation is Open-Assets compliant and we are excited to have you try it out.

GUI is in development, but you can try it out command line with http://github.com/opalcoin/colorcore

In the current Opal implementation, outputs represent a quantity of Opal, secured by an output script. With the Open Assets Protocol, outputs can encapsulate a quantity of a user-defined asset on top of that Opal amount.

There are many applications:

A company could issue colored coins representing shares. The shares could then be traded frictionlessly through the Opal infrastructure.
A bank could issue colored coins backed by a cash reserve. People could withdraw and deposit money in colored coins, and trade those, or use them to pay for goods and services. The Blockchain becomes a system allowing to transact not only in Opal, but in any currency.
Locks on cars or houses could be associated with a particular type of colored coins. The door would only open when presented with a wallet containing that specific coin.

Really cool feature !

Now this looks rather good, will open the doors to some great projects.

Token could even be used for in-game micro-transaction as well. Definitely a great number of possibilities with this feature.

I am very excited for colored coins!  Cheesy

Once we implement them, I plan on creating an Opal Lottery Token.

Similar to what JL777 have done on NXT.

Post the Lottery tokens for sale and then award the proceed to a random transaction id address.
Not sure on much more of the detail, but I am very excited about this.
Rewarding our community is one of my great pleasure in working on Opal
and with this new development the process of giving out rewards and prizes will be greatly improved.

Again this is a HUGE leap for opal, So much exciting stuff in the works.

I am just seriously just blown away by how far we've come.

silly truther, it is implemented

Well Dang, guess I best get to work! Tongue

64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: LTCgear.com, the best scrypt/scrypt n/X11 cloud mining service, ROI 2 months on: January 02, 2015, 11:30:35 PM
I think that time really matters now, if we all want to get some of our money back or 'justice to be served'.

Let's be honest the fact he hasn't shared his actual name, made any videos, posted any pictures of his farm even if he said he would.
He didn't keep his paypal account or 'accounts'.
He is not even using a btc processor like BitPay etc. (even butterfly labs did and I got my money back even after 4 months)
The fact that he offers an 8% discount for those who pay in btc, when it is actually the only way to pay him through his website (so that he doesn't bother with sending other coins to exchanges which could be a way of tracking him)
49% discount to turn your profits in shares (however you can't transfer your shares anymore, which is the best way to finish of a ponzi)
ROI 2-3 months
No Blockchain verification (at least I don't know if he is verified)
No public mining addresses and before changing hosting service (at least I don't know any)
He was using WhoIsGuard http://whois.domaintools.com/ltcgear.com before he moved hosting.
He hasn't responded to most emails, no announcement other the server upgrade even if many other cloudhosting websites-ponzis have collapsed and a few people haven't received anything for weeks.
Exiting during holidays would be a great plan as people want to have fun so the scammers have an excuse for delays etc and many of scammed ones wouldn't bother at such a time.

People who are hoping that because he dealt with paypal, that they will get information about him they should think again about how paypal works and that it is easy to hide yourself. If he stopped using his account because he wasn't verified (that's probably he had low limits) or bought several verified accounts or even used other people accounts (family, friends etc) in order to hide his tracks. etc etcHe stopped his account going to get a lot of information. Also he could give extra coins/money to these people to keep their mouth shut, who probably are already satisfied customers who have gotten their money back and probably more.

If you are able to find any information or track 'Christian' as soon as possible that will be the best. Even if people think that he will return, we could still gather as many information and also create a plan in case he takes our money and runs away. This call is for people that send him money through PayPal (if there is any info) , for people who traded physical miners with him and especially those who send their stuff back to him (if he actually did trade anything), for people who have talked with him over the phone, email accounts other than ltcgear's, any social networks (even a fake account) or even VoIp. People who have received referral payments could share their addresses so that we can see where their payments came from. People who have send him Btc and he still hasn't withdrawn them from the deposit address or people that know any existing mining addresses (even if he is not the owner).

Someone sent me this on reddit :

Just wanted to say this....

Get off Bitcointalk, stop trading crypto, and enjoy some time with your families over the holidays.

See you all in the New Year!

....
After all, if the malware is crypted you cannot detect anything using antivirus, the real problem is why bitcointalk allow user to make a Yahoo.com hyperlink able to redirect on google.com ? ....

Stonerstanley, I just asked the question to Bitcointalk admin here :

bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=900424.msg9897048#msg9897048
I added my 2 cents to that conversation.
67  Other / Meta / Re: Admin: can you block link masquerading which redirect to malicious files ? on: December 20, 2014, 09:02:09 PM

Official devs:
please download the Mandatory

Attacker change the link in the quote which redirect to his malicious URL (here i put virustotal.com just for example, obviously virustotal is not malicious)

I am asking if Bitcointalk admin can do something against that

Like find a trick to automatically turn off link in quote

I understand your suggestion, but I doubt it will be done. A quote is no different from a regular post. Even if this would work via the quote tag, someone using that technique could modify the quote tag to refer a different post easily (see above).
All browsers (expect maybe mobile) offer a way to spot this. Hover over the linktext with the mouse and see where it leads. IMHO this is internet 101. Dont click a link where you have no idea where you end up. This includes shortened links, which is a perfect tool for someone to link to a fake page. The hardcore version would be to go to the URL you think the link leads by hand and copy pasta the rest of the link. E.g. if you get a stearncommunity/blabla link, you go to the page steamcommunity and copy the /blabla behind it.

I hope you found the difference...
The biggest issue this brings up is adoption.. The Fraud and Theft protection that banks and credits company's provide is the main advantage they have over crypto and it is a big advantage. Every scam and theft hurt cryptocurrency adoption. If we ever plan to make Bitcoin or any coin for that matter widely accept, protection o some type need to be considered. Simply saying "Well they should know better." is not an acceptable response to theft.

If cryptocurrencies are going to be a globally accepted currency, they need to be usable and trusted, by those who may not know anything about computers other then checking their email.

Thanks bassguitarman. Do you know if Malwarebytes removes the key logger? If not, maybe a clean install of OS has to be done.  Smiley
Malewarebytes seems to have isolated the problem, but always do your best to secure you're computer and take whatever action you feel will make it as secure as possible.

How do you propose to defend users from their own stupidity next time?

This.
The users didn't break the law by clicking the link, the person who violated their personal property did. It's no different then someone breaking into your house because you left a window unlatched. The hacker made a malicious effort to deceive users and seize that opportunity to steal their possessions.

I was affected by this and I've been using computers and been on the internet for 15 years and I have never had anything like this happen to me. This was not accidental or going to some random site. In about 5 minutes I realized something was odd and attempted to correct it, suddenly my computer was forced into an immediate restart.

You say, "How do you propose to defend users from their own stupidity next time?", I say, "How do we make it so attack like this are not profitable and more trouble then its worth?" Heinous actions like this hurts all of crypto. User protection is top priority.

I Vote rollback.

73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Buying LTCgear 2nd Gen pre – ASIC NOW vs. 1000 share NOW on: December 10, 2014, 04:24:54 AM
Since it is a pre-order we're taking the risk along with Chris in this new venture, for that he's giving those who are daring enough a deep discount. The best way to look at the Gen2 is you are paying for 2 week ROI once its online and the extra share payment up to the time the Gen2's come online is just icing on the cake. I imagine that when the Gen2's come on line the price point will likely be around the value of 6-10 week ROI or 3-4x the current price.

Basically

GEN 2 10 Shares
Buy Now
Cost
$273

"Standby Earning" 30000 Scrypt 1/2.5 (40%) = 120 shares
$6 a week ROI 52 weeks
(total earned by projected launch 15 weeks) $70-90

"Projected Earning" Based on Coinwars Feather Coin mining Calc
$127 a week ROI  2 weeks

BUY AT RELEASE
Estimated cost
$700-$1200

"Projected Earning" Based on Coinwars Feather Coin mining Calc
$127 a week ROI  6-10 weeks

If you accept these estimations, if you compare those who bought today to those on release.
To be fair I'll add if you bought standard shares till launch

$273 = 1000 share = $50 per week
$50 x 15 weeks = $750-273= $473 after ROI

BUY NOW:  $273 -$70 (SE) = $203 cost at launch

Perfect World..lol
BUY LATER: $700-473 = $227 cost at launch

(adjusting share returns to $40 and Cost t0 $1200 because "Real World")
$40 x 15 weeks = $600-$273= $327 after ROI

Real World
BUY LATER: $1200-$327= $873 cost at launch

In Short:

NOW=$203
LATER=$227 to $873 (if you buy 1k shares now instead)

I'd also like to add that a model very similar to GEN2 mining is already being used
by HASH PROFIT at a much higher buy in by comparison, but the returns are steady with little depreciation.
You can see the cost difference and payouts for yourself
at https://hashprofit.com/en/khs/?hp=94533
I'd do the math but my head hurts now.

Hope this help some of you out who have be asking if it is better to buy now or later.

Final Result buy GEN2's now, before retail price!

76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | SuperNET | MARKETPLACE | ANDROID | FILE SHARING | HTML5 WALLET on: December 03, 2014, 02:43:01 PM
I understand that people can feel disheartened by the "price" of Opal. If I had 100tbc I would try to buy them all, but I don't, I buy what I can when I can afford it. I know watching the price can be dramatic and entertaining, but that's not really what Opal is all about. The exchange is just a place we individuals decide what price they want to buy and sell at, some buy because they see a promising future, others sell because they are recovering an investment or need funds for something else, and there are those who just want to suck the money out of any day trader they can find. Opal has no control over what happens on the market, we can try the be an influence, but our real aim is establishing a use for opal that has far more value then any exchange can offer. Usability is where the value of Opal lives. So, if you feel yourself stressing about the exchange price, the solution is simple... Withdraw your Opal of the exchange and into your wallet to get your 5% APR and stop looking at the exchange. Add what you can to the community, create something, talk to someone, or even just smile and say "This is gonna be big" and go about your daily life.

Sorry for the little rant, but it pains me to see all the talk about price. Let get back to work building the community.

Thanks for Listening.

Could someone explain to me why this coin is unique?

RELEASED:

-OPACITY+ Anon Encryption Suite
-Opaque Addresses (Anonymous Transactions)
-Opacity Encrypted Messaging
-OPAL-EX,  Trade on Bittrex from within qt
-O-POOL (Multipool)
-Android Wallet

IN PROGRESS:

- OPAL Market, back-end near completion, work on front-end started
  - coded from scratch
  - WHITEPAPER will follow
  - Working beta released
- Decentralized anonymous File-Sharing, OPAL DRIVE, whitepaper released
- HTML 5 Wallet. full redesign

Just pulled from a post 6 pages back.

It's hard to call any coin unique, as it happens Opals open source has been cloned more then few times now.

No "coin" is really unique.

That being said,

Opal has 2 absolutely unique features, not found in anyother coin and CANNOT be copied, cloned, or "reinvented"

1.The Development Team

and

2.The Opal Community

at the end of the day.
When you invest in any coin, you're putting your trust in to the Dev Team and the Community.
