82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | SuperNET | MARKETPLACE | ANDROID | FILE SHARING | HTML5 WALLET on: November 30, 2014, 07:18:13 PM
You say the changes could be applied to any cryptocoin, however, these changes have already been applied to Opal. It's easy to say this feature and that feature could be added to any coin but the work has to actually be done! IMO that's where 95% of altcoins fail  Cheesy

Yes, because no substantial changes have been made to the protocol (what a cryptocurrency is), they have just been made to the client. So I see no reason to create a second blockchain for client updates.

I think your main misunderstanding is you are confusing the wallet (the client) with the protocol (what actually defines a cryptocurrency). These aren't features being added to the protocol, they are being added to the client. These features are not unique to opal, there is nothing actually new its just modifying a client and pretending something major has been done. This type of development stagnants progress of all cryptocurrency in favor of short term profit.
"there is nothing actually new its just modifying a client and pretending something major has been done"

I'm sorry, but this is rather insulting.

Posting something like that is baiting a hostile response.

We have posted answers to questions such as these already,
you claim not to be fuding,
but don't wish to discuss the answers we've provided?
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | SuperNET | MARKETPLACE | ANDROID | FILE SHARING | HTML5 WALLET on: November 30, 2014, 06:59:50 PM
I'm gonna stick my nose in here and make a little point about forum community relations and FUD:

If someone asks a question (or 10 questions) , then the best thing to do is just to give a straightforward answer BEFORE you start hassling the questioner and shouting FUD.
With L&F, for example, he might be too lazy to read the whole thread but providing him a good answer won't cost anything but time.
Never forget, by the way,  that a lot of people just lurk and read rather than posting on the forum, so a good answer to one guy may be read by many others........

Don't start screaming FUD until it really is FUD, nasty questions don't count. If you can't answer the nasty questions.......u have a problem.

(and this, btw, is one of the reasons BlockNet annoys the f*** out of me)
Thanks for dropping by EvilDave,

Your advice is greatly appreciated, we do our best to answer questions when they come up.

Although personally, I do prefer legitimate questions about Opal
over the generic "Why should I buy" or " Isn't this the same as "insert coin here"?".

I know its a good problem to have, just frustrating at times.

Thanks again EvilDave

So beyond wallet modifications, what is the development team doing? A lot of the changes (messaging, IP anonymity, bittrex desktop client, etc) all could have been applied to a wallet that would work for any crytpocurrency since they don't require changes to the underlying protocol. If the primary development is just improving the existing sStoshi wallet then why create a redundant blockchain and not create a better wallet for all cryptocurrencies? Am I missing something?
There is a development regarding a new generation of wallet tech in the upcoming "full 6 month road map", which will be posted sometime tomorrow morning or sooner.

Since the post reply is getting so long and you are NOT willing to read
even the last 10 days of posts or even skim through to get the relevant information.

I'll help you out by listing some things here.

"We need devs to focus on improving Bitcoin, not cloning it.  This only hurts the crypto community."

1. Transactions faster then bitcoin.

2. Lower coin volume

3. Anon messaging

4. Anon Transactions

5. Opal Marketplace (beta)

6. Developing Anon File Transfer and storage

7. Developing (undisclosed Android app)

8. Developing (Undisclosed Lite Wallet)

There is quite a bit more,
but I feel this is enough information to share
with those who don't want to be bothered with reading.

Hope I'm not being to harsh,
but you can read this whole tread in less then 30 mins (it not like its 600 pages.)
Spending an hour or 2 researching is wise to do before investing in anything.

Hope this Helps.

this logo makes my eyes bleed. Is this bitmo dev?

"The Opal team consists of several, experienced members of the alt-coin community"

i wouldn't touch it

Thanks for your opinion.  Now can you peacefully leave us alone?

Cheap Opal is long gone my friend

truer words have never been spoken..  Wink

But the price is going down now, who is the whale selling now?you will heavily regret it as soon this coin will multiply by 10 or more

just a correction.. the price discover hasnt finished i dont think.. a dramatic rise will always be followed by dramatic corrections..
As far as cheap opal being gone, not true, I think a better statement would be cheaper Opals are gone, but still cheap just not as cheap as yesterday.
Don't worry thought, there will always be some free opal available to our loyal community,
I personally buy from the exchange and rain/tip free opal in the IRC channel.

corrections are always scary, if your smart just put you buy order in and close your browser... less stressful.

Honest Opal Trading Tactics to Increase Yield -by Truther

Today's H.O.T.T.I.Y-

Whenever a coin sees a dramatic rise in price,
it will rise in a series of stages.
This can be seen in crypto and the stock market.
often in a pattern of 2/3rds rise 1/3rd drop.
This is very well know among professional traders.
There is great risk and reward playing the rise.

The Reward: selling shares on a high ,
then re-buying on the low to increase holdings.

The Risk: selling shares on a high,
then price goes higher without dipping back.

Truther, that meme actually helps detract from the sophistication of Opal and the "big money" serious investors are currently putting into this coin right now.

By it's very nature it's FUD like...

If huge meme's had any place in the business world, they'd be everywhere in the wallstreet journal, and they aren't.

Let's try and keep a tone of seriousness here.  Opal is going where it is, because it deserves it. Let's not fill this forum with funny memes that just lower the maturity level of the discussion.
Yeah, I understand what your saying, it was way bigger then I expected it to be. It's just a link now.

As far as the serious tone your talking about, http://www.library.hbs.edu/hc/wsj/

Memes and cartoons are not out of place in a crypto thread, nor are they in the business magazines.
The community behind the coin is just as important as the technology in the coin.
Many publisher include cartoons and such to give readership a little entertainment in their stressful world,
this also sets them apart from many of there competitors, because the readers appreciate it.

I'm sorry if the meme to warn against fud, offended anyone or turned them off to the coin, but it was not distasteful, nor out of place,
as a dramatic rise in any coins price draws out the fudsters who want to scare price down to buy low.

wow not bad, missed this one.  too late now.  this is gonna dump hard though, *waits for it* - barely any btc back down to like 1500 sats.
I think your mistaking Opal for a pump and dump. I have no doubt there will be some seller, but most of those big dumps fell on the wall over 2 weeks.
"missed this one.  too late now", I wonder wonder how many people said that about Darkcoin, Litecoin and Bitcoin.
In my personally experience, I had like 2000 BitcoinDark from trading.. just mined didn't look into it much saw the price quadruple and sold what I had that was at 10000sat. Thought I could play the swing and buy back again on the low, but that never happen  Cry .

The smarter move would have been sell 1/4 get my investment back and just let it ride.

Let that be cautionary tale of of selling oneself short and ignoring opportunity.

If I want to stake OPAL, how long must I leave my coins in the wallet to generate rewards? Like if I have 5000 OPAL, how long will it take before I start making more coins? And how many coins would I make? Thanks for your help, and I sure hope OPAL Drive gets working soon! I can't wait to test it out!  Grin

It take 24 hours for coins to mature in the wallet, after that they will be generating 5%APR.

Happy Staking!

Today's H.O.T.T.I.Y-

Hyping in Chats seems like a no brainier,
when it comes to improving coin buys.
While there is some truth to this,
if a coin becomes over hyped or the hype has no foundation,
then the hype can act like FUD to a seasoned investor.
I know you're all very excited about Opal
(some more then others *cough..."noobkid".. cough Wink ),
So please, hype with care and knowledge.

don't we already have darkcoin blackcoin open bazaar dark market...
Do they accept opal?  Huh

Also, is their market going to incorporate anon file transfer?

I'd really rather not compare apples to oranges. There are many marketplaces,
I personally believe every reputable coin should have a market of some kind. Opals Marketplace is apart of the development,
not just some place you can throw your coins. I'm sure it doesn't look like much right now,
but it will continue to see improvements. It is a prototype that future business will be able to use as a model for the online store front.

If your coming to compare features to features, be sure you more specific in your questions.
If you ask "Hows Opal different then (insert coin here)?" all I can say is if youtruly want to know,
then read the entire ANN and the entire ANN of the coin you wish to compare to.
I know this might take you a while, but you wouldn't be the first to do it.
After words you'd be more knowledgeable and informed.
Knowledge is power.
(I hope this didn't come off as aggressive)

We appreciate the question and welcome you to the community.  Grin

Today's H.O.T.T.I.Y-

Opal is a Proof of Stake coin,
meaning you are mining the coin when the wallet is unlocked and staking.
Like any miner, you can sell your mining rewards.
The best way to find out your earnings per-day:
Let your coins mature in the wallet for 24 hours,
Record your balance,
and Wait 24 hours then see how much it's grown.
Bamm! you now know how many Opal per-day you're mining.

Today's H.O.T.T.I.Y-

If you decide to sell in an Upward market,
Keep your sells small and just work to cover
your initial investment and remember to spread it out in the Sell Book.
Traders see large sell walls as a Downward signal.

Some of you might wonder, "Why is he telling them to Sell?" I'm not telling anyone to sell, but I want our supporters to thrive in the exchange along with Opal, if they wish to gamble there.

Please tell me a good reason to buy this coin and I buy now anything that make it different from the rest. does it have a unique feature?
The Choice is yours, my friend.

In all honesty, most coins are very similar. I can tell you what I look for in a coin.

1. Active Development Team
2. A Roadmap of achievable goals
3. Positive Community
4. IRC and social media activity
5. Consistent trade volume and price stability.
6. Healthy Price Spread.
7. Developer Responses (Mature or Juvenile)
8. Competitive Blockchain Technology
9. Mining and or Multi-pool
10. Usability outside of coin exchange

Those are the main things I look for in a coin, I love Opal as I should and it meets every point, but I am no fool I invest in other coins that meet my criteria as well.
So, all I can say is use your best judgement and don't depend on others to tell you why you should buy.

Good Luck and I am hoping to see more of you in the community.

Today's H.O.T.T.I.Y-

When looking to buy opal,
try to buy on the low end of a wave.
Be mindful, there is no way to know the perfect time to buy in,
but if you look at one month chart you can see the Buy/Sell cycle
and gain a rough idea of the best time to get in.
