1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GDGC] GadgetCoin | IoT | M2M |Smart Contracts on Hardware on: January 24, 2016, 02:43:42 PM
The community has voted and decided to lock this thread. Most likely we will reopen it in the near feature as a moderated thread. Please email me at developers@gadgetcoin.org or send a message in the wallet to the gdcfoundation account if you have any questions about GadgetCoin. Alternatively, please feel free to PM me here at the BCT forum. I will check my messages regularly. We invite all VICR contract holders to a private forum to continue the discussion about the project. We are releasing the system and start working with clients and businesses to generate revenue. We will keep all VICR contract holders and interested parties updated in the GadgetNet private forum.

DEVELOPERS!

We are recruiting developers to work on the W3C open source intiative at https://github.com/w3c/web-of-things-framework. All type of skill set and expertise are welcomed and will be useful. You need only a Github account to start working on the project. W3C is an influential technology organisation, it defines worldwide standards. Most likely will be the dominant standard for M2M and humans to machine communication. That means your work would make a real difference in a very important software development process. Also, your work will be directly exposed to the world largest companies, the participants of the standardization process.
As a side project you could also work with us on the GadgetNet software development which scope is bigger than the W3C code base, but mirrors most of the W3C source. We are willing to offer share options and eventually salary to the developers who are interested in working with us and can contribute. Please email me at developers@gadgetcoin.org if you are interested. Thanks!

I suggest to move this offtopic into a separate thread, otherwise it will be a PR disaster. Or altcoinUK should change the nickname while representing GadgetCoin.

We posted many times in this thread that altcoinUK is not part of the developer team, he is not representing GadgetCoin. I am sorry for the tone of this thread, the attacks and accusation on your projects. Such opinion is not the view of the GadgetCoin developers. We have nothing but respect for your software development.

Hello,

We have decided that it may be best to close this thread as it is toxic the majority of the time. We will be moving to the private forum we have set up for shareholders. Please send your email address to gdcfoundation account in a message through the wallet to receive an invite. We will hold a vote at the private forum on whether or not we should close this thread. The deadline to vote will be Monday 14:00 EST.

Thanks.

So that's what did it...no volatility-buffering payment provider with any volume. A shame.

Hard to find a payment provider that allows large volume, instant BTC to FIAT exchange. Most likely we need to start with FIAT and credit card payments, without processing BTC.

Could you do that with Gadgetcoin still hooked in?

It seems yes, it shouldn't be a problem. In that sense GadgetCoin/GadgetToken is similar as the token of the Live Jasmin service.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GDGC] GadgetCoin | IoT | M2M |Smart Contracts on Hardware on: January 14, 2016, 11:53:53 PM
I'm seeing this coin for the first time. The instant transaction concept is a more welcome feature. If the coin is capable of processing transaction in less than in one second, then gadget coin is one of a highly valued coin. It seems this coin hasn't been traded on exchanges. What are the other plans or innovations planned for?

Our digital currency is basically a token and we can't claim the system manages 1 second transaction time in a decentralized manner. The 1 second transaction time is achieved with certain centralization and using trusted nodes to assist in transaction handling. Having centralization is not an issue in the majority of IoT use cases, but in fact it is a strict requirement. Regulations require to deploy centralized nodes which must be accessible for auditing, law enforcement and regulatory bodies. Internet of Things is a heavily regulated sector. Manufacturing, health care, security surveillance, transportation, building management, IoT enabled public services and virtually all sectors must comply with regulations. That means we have the luxury of trusted nodes within the system. It is straightforward to have 1 seconds transactions using trusted nodes.

As for other plans, please review the white paper and I will be happy to answer any questions. The white paper should give you an idea about the envisioned technology.

We apologize for the inappropriate language, conflicts and personal attacks that regularly appear in the thread, and we are really sorry that the visitors of the thread have had this experience.
Our intention was to create a forum to discuss GadgetCoin and Internet of Things.

IoT is an entirely new concept for me, and I am just now reading the GadgetCoin white paper. I have not had time to study the W3C working group or any other resources on this topic. Note I did make a supportive comment early on in this thread, commending the attempt to create user level apps utilizing crypto-currency.

Thank you very much for your supportive comment back at the time and your post now.

Why have IoT private databases? Use encryption instead, which is more secure. Network intrusion is impossible to 100% prevent, even if you use a sneakernet, e.g. the Stuxnet attack.[/li][/list]

It is encrypted even on the private device node. We thought it is necessary to keep the transaction information not only in the public blockchain, but on the node level too. We were trying to solve privacy and provide anonymity at the time, but soon we realized anonymity is not possible without trusted nodes. The idea was, don't give full power to the trusted nodes in managing the data and don't rely 100% on the honesty of trusted nodes, don't assume the trusted node will always return the correct data. The individual nodes keep the transaction data locally to prove the balance and transaction history. Most likely it is an unnecessary complication.

Low-power, resource constraints favor Winternitz signatures over ECDSA for authentication in terms of the CPU cost although the bandwidth cost rises exponentially compared to ECDSA as bit-security increases. For encryption, a Diffie-Hellman exchange will be required to establish a shared encryption key, but this will not be a real-time requirement.

Currently the system uses FIPS compliant ECDSA and EC Diffie-Hellman for key exchange. We will look into the Winternitz signatures.

Afaics, smart contracts incur the multiplicity of verification cost. The only solution I thought of is zk-snarks, but then the proving cost is very high, which isn't applicable to low, resource IoT/WoT. Seems contracts for IoT will need to be hard-coded efficient scripts, unless another technical solution can be devised.

You assumed correctly, all current contracts are hard coded. We don't have a turing-complete scripting language for smart contracts in the system. We thought it's not feasible to implement such module on low constraint IoT devices. The idea was that smart contracts could be very useful in device provisioning and device management, but it seems businesses and end users don't see a lot value in smart contract. The smart contract concept on IoT devices needs to be revisited.

Thank you!

how about the discussion with the iota dev, did it go anywhere.

tzpardi replied them and sent two messages, and as far as I know waiting to hear from the IOTA dev. We are here if they want to collaborate.

I have added him to Skype, waiting for him to come online.

Re: altcoinUK, if he's a prominent member of Gadget I don't see a lot of hope for overlap in vision.

Thanks! I am sure he will contact you on Skype once he is online and receive the contact request.

altcoinUK is not a team member and doesn't represent the view of the developers. We asked him many times to be civil, but we don't have control over what he says in this unmoderated thread. I am very sorry that you received those messages and were offended in this thread.

I haven't received the private forum invitation. was it sent out or not yet?

We will send it tomorrow.

i had a question from an associate who want to invest, does the system support WEBRTC?

Yes, the WEBRTC integration is there. The bulky WEBRTC stack has a very limited role in constrained applications and IoT devices, but we still support it.

I look forward to the new year, i am sure good things will come from gadgetcoin!!!

Thank you for your support! We are in the process of releasing the framework/technology and will keep you all updated.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GDGC] GadgetCoin | IoT | M2M |Smart Contracts on Hardware on: December 11, 2015, 04:58:31 AM

Thanks and no problem. If you deliver the 30% of what you are aiming for then everything will be more than fine. Ethereum had been developing for 2 years until the very first, basic release with lots of developers, rootstock has been developing for 2 years with lots of developers. The development of complex things take time.

It would be great if I could receive the new white paper before Christmas. This is the Christmas party season here, lots of meetings and I could show it to people who could help the project in moving forward.

It is unlikely the updated white paper will be available in the next 7 days, but I will let you know if we can manage to complete it.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GDGC] GadgetCoin | IoT | M2M |Smart Contracts on Hardware on: December 10, 2015, 12:34:38 PM
I think this is the very few coins/projects that could work out, and based on what I see here and W3C and hear from the devs I think it will work out. I am HODLING, not selling shares at this stage.

@mtomcdev
I know you are busy with releasing the new software and updating the white paper, but it would be great to get an update about the progress

Update

The main focus has been on redesigning and optimizing the P2P modules and ensuring the security and privacy requirements are addressed. The base modules have been completed and now we are testing the application. First we needed to convert everything to Nodejs so the changes can be committed to the W3C code base at the web-of-things-framework. Among many others, the Kademlia, ECDSA and ECDH modules were completely rewritten. We will be releasing
a) Stand alone application in which humans and machines operate in a true decentralized P2P manner
b) Chrome application which is still true P2P but allows simplified deployment via the Chrome app environment, so users don't need to download the bulky stand alone client and the client installation is simplified
c) Light clients that connects to the GadgetNet network via a server back in using web-sockets for users who require even more simplified deployment

These three architectures use the very same code base.

One of the challenges was to satisfy the privacy requirement. We have included a feature that allows to run the application as a private network. This way for example a home automation system or an IoT installation of a business can be isolated from the public P2P network - still using the very same client that connects to both the public and private IoT network. For instance, there could be scenarios that the client use the software to buy a drink from an IoT vending machine that is on the public network and the very same client software manages the private network that controls the IoT door device of a residential home. In order to achieve this we have integrated an authentication mechanism into the Kademlia DHT layer. This also helps in mitigating the risk of Sybil attack as well as DDoS attack to a certain extent. This will be detailed in the updated white paper.

The P2P video and audio streaming will be included as well. One of the challenges with regards to that is to move away from the proprietary RTMP protocol and we have the first working prototype to manage this using open standards.

We apologise for this very slow progress, but to bring the P2P decentralized idea in line with Internet of Things and in the meantime satisfy security and privacy requirements and deliver the P2P video streaming is lot more work than we anticipated. Having said that, we are getting there.

Thank you all for your support!

When and where can I buy this coin?

Once the open source application is released then the VICR contract related coin sell, as well as independent, not VICR related coin and share trade will be started. When? We plan to release everything in December, in the next few weeks. The trade will be within the wallet at http://wallet.gadgetcoin.org.

We do not know our GADGETCOIN there to participate in this exhibition, where you can find our page.
I remember you said, W3C make provision about the networking industry, there is the use of our research, some of the W3C there? Thank you, our free report said.

Thank you for pointing this out!
This conference is for the world's largest companies and not small open source teams, so GadgetNet of course won't be there. However, one of the keynote speaker is the CEO of W3C. It seems W3C will be defining the standards as per this agreement at https://www.w3.org/blog/wotig/2015/08/11/w3c-and-iic-sign-liaison-agreement-for-the-industrial-internet-of-things/ . So our aim is to contribute more and better quality work to the W3C standardization effort.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GDGC] GadgetCoin | IoT | M2M |Smart Contracts on Hardware on: November 17, 2015, 04:32:27 AM
The GadgetNet DAC shares has been issued to all VICR accounts.

Instead of the 20% that was discussed earlier we decided to give away 50% shares to our investors. Therefore, the developers own 50% of the total company shares and the VICR investors own the other 50% of the shares.

Total 19,442,000 has been issued. 100 shares has been allocated to each GadgetCoin, so if you have 1,000 GDGC then you should receive 100,000 GadgetNet DAC shares. If you see an incorrect figure please let us know and we will fix the issue, but everything should be correctly in place.

Currently the shares price is 3 US$ cents per share. You will be able to sell the shares when the share sell/buy function is enabled, most likely later this week. We are talking to angel investors and VCs and if you decide to exit your investment then you will be able to sell the shares to a minimum at 3 cents per share price. We are creating a business with a real product for real world clients and we hope the share price of GadgetNet will increase, so please hold on to your shares if you can as we are targeting the 10 cents per share price within the next few months.

You can review your DAC share holdings by log in to your wallet and clicking on the "DAC" menu item under the "Account" menu.

“You will be able to sell the shares when the share sell/buy function is enabled, most likely later this week  ”
how is this going on?

We apologize for the delay with the share trade function. Please give us a few days to enable the feature. There are new opportunities with regards to GadgetNet and other tasks have been prioritized over the share trade feature, but sorry again for the delay and we will try to get it done this week.

Since the last update we have been working hard to develop the software. We decided to publish everything including the P2P video streaming and the complete Internet-of-Things framework in the next release, in a one go. It is a huge amount of work, but we are making a reasonably good progress every day. We are combining all WoT codes into our software and will be releasing a lot more than originally was planned. It will be completely decentralized, but GadgetCoin will be still integrated into it. Our P2P software and security implementation will be presented first time to the W3C web of things user group on the 26th of November. The user group includes companies like Siemens, Alibaba, Oracle, Intel, Google, Nokia, Panasonic and many other big and influential businesses.

I will post a more detailed update later this week.

there is nobody talk on slack`` Sad   VICRers doesn't use slack?

We have invited all VICR holders to Slack, and we we will send invitation again to to start the discussion there if most users prefer the Slack platform. We, the developers don't mind to talk here or at Slack.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GDGC] GadgetCoin | IoT | M2M |Smart Contracts on Hardware on: October 28, 2015, 11:31:12 PM

what makes you believe the $5 million realistic? i don't think the $5 million market cap so quickly is a realistic expectation.

I didn't talk about market cap, did I? I couldn't care less what is the market cap valuation of 99.99% of digital currencies which are used by absolutely nobody except the several thousands users of Bitcointalk by selling to each other the things. I am talking about capital investment from a venture capital firm or angel investors. I have been investing via Venture Capital and angel investor firms and funds, and witnessing what kind of shits could exists in a VC's portfolio. The VC investment culture is in the UK is far more conservative than US, still unbelievably shitty technology ideas and absolutely incompetent teams have been securing GBP 5 million investments.

The blockchain is getting a hot topic, the Internet of Things has been a popular investment area for years, the IoT micropayment will sound a very fancy idea for a VC, the IoT driven P2P streaming is a very nicely presentable topic. That's what makes me believe if the product is ready for investment, if the team is serious then GadgetNet will have no problem to secure that $5 million.

I agree with this 100%. The fact that Gadgetnet has such a central spot on W3C's IoT development alone should easily bring in investments of that size if not greater. This would help big time with any team/keeping developers interest problems.

With a nice VC investment they could buy shares and hopefully give the company some funds for salaries etc, which would allow you to work full time. Is anyone working full time at the moment?

I also believe that we should move all discussion off of this forum as there is little to be gained here. Something like slack would allow more detailed updates and discussions.

Yes, we can discuss all details on Slack.
Currently all of us work part time on GadgetCoin. Once we start generating revenue with GadgetNet then we will start working on the project in full time.

Thanks for rewarding the investors with the generous share allocation!

Good to see that you are proving those wrong who were screaming that GadgetCoin is a scam and it will be disappear just like many other coins did.

No, thanks for your continued support.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GDGC] GadgetCoin | IoT | M2M |Smart Contracts on Hardware on: October 28, 2015, 11:44:35 AM

Thanks, I have confirmed that I get the correct shares, it's really good, I think the share price will go up as your development is progressing.

Thanks for your continued support tobeaj2mer01! The plan is to keep progressing in technology development as well as serving users in the Internet-of-Things sector, and as you said that will increase the share price of the DAC.
