Parvati_j congratulations on ranking up and becoming a Jr. Member.
Thank you pakhitheboss, I'm very much humbled to be congratulated. I wish to be like you someday having a hero member as my rank. Smiley
2  Local / India / Re: ED seize and possess funds from scam is new and unexpected! on: May 04, 2024, 10:40:30 AM
Yeah it seems that the exchanges mentioned in the topic were only being used as mule or dummy accounts to store the stolen funds in and those are the ones that have been seized, the exchanges have nothing bad to do with it.

Indeed this is just the tip of an iceberg of the rampant crypto related scams that were happening in the country at that time. Good to see that at least some of the scammers are facing the music.

Whether this will change the bank freezes or not, not sure. The government still was way more work to do in this sector.

It's quite unfortunate that after some of these scammers have successfully stolen from people they go over to save the asset in the crypto network. Thus, making the government to see crypto as a sure fortress for concealing illegal stolen asset due to its decentralised/anonymous nature.  Anyway it's obvious karma has started catching up with some of these persons , but what matter most is the government conception about crypto, if only they see the opportunity that lies within they can not change their attitude towards it.
3  Local / India / Re: Sell your crypto without bank freeze issue. on: May 04, 2024, 10:13:23 AM
Op in publicly sites like this, it would be very difficult to buy the mind of people to doing business with you. Even if you have a genuine mindset it would be difficult to convince anyone to just send their crypto to you and wait to be credited. We have seen lots of scam in this manner so there is a trust issue that need to be settled. Even if a reputable member of this forum come to give such offer  precautions would be taken, not to talk of a low ranked member who who's account has no reputation in this forum. I advice you set up a physical business meeting with your client and not chasing after them from an anonymous site.
4  Local / India / Saving your seed phrase on: April 19, 2024, 06:22:59 AM
It is been told that we must not save our seed phrase online, that is pron to hacking when we do so, and even if it's a secure place like our Gmail or Google drive, it's not safe. But I have been thinking lately concerning this matter, especially when you are in a place where natural disasters can happen or when some physical factors could affect your physical storage of seed phrase what will you do in that scenario?

Here is my suggestion and correct me if am wrong, i believe the only option here is to write your seed phrase in a doc or pdf file, and encrypt and also put it in a folder encrypt it with another password, if possible add to another folder but if you can't remember more than two strong password then just go with two, and save it in your Google drive, but before that make sure your email has two factory authentication security. So that it would be difficult for your email to be hacked. This option is not 100% secure and I don't advise you use it when you have a  better offline seed backup.

also I want share a trick, which maybe known by 80% of the PC users but I think it will be helpful if someone don't know.
If you are using and hover over on hyperlinked text then you will see the redirecting link's URL on bottom left corner of the Browser window. so no need to go to any third party sites to test it.
like this the black mark is cursor hovering over the hyperlink:

Thanks cafter, for this tip. I guess when using a desktop that will do, instead of opening a new tab on the device.

Here is a guide for that [GUIDE] A good post/reply and formatting which might give an idea about better formatting the long posts.

Bitcoin smith, thanks for the link. I'll work on making post easy to read by following the formats provided. I really appreciate.
7  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin the future of currency on: January 10, 2024, 01:40:16 PM
At the time I wrote this post, the price of Bitcoin was at $26,873.29  and today the price is $45,133.61. though it the market is know for it's volatility but in real sense Bitcoin is heading somewhere. rumors have it that Bitcoin ETF will be approved this week and if that happens, the price will keep appreciating in value. It's never too late to start investing and accumulating more Bitcoin. And aside that the bull run is just by the corner meaning we'll be experiencing two set of bulls this year.
8  Local / India / Re: Security tips and reminder on: January 07, 2024, 06:47:44 PM
@Parvati_j your post looks very agreeable unless it in not generated usin an AI. I also felt that you should use more paragraphs or seperation to reduce wall of words. The next thing you should focus on adding a few relevant images to support your writing.

Please use .png image and upload it to https://www.talkimg.com/
They give you image links with Bbcodes, they are the best for posting images. The problem here is that you can do it, if you become a Jr.Member. The problem is your activities as you are not yet eligible.

Thanks for the advice, I'll work towards your description. I'll also want to let you know that, after reading the forum rules, I know better than using an AI text generating tools for my write ups. U you have some doubts, you can try using an AI detector to confirm.
9  Local / India / Re: Best Topic Contest for the Indian Local Board on: January 07, 2024, 05:10:51 PM
Bitcoin Smith is the only individual who has submitted his topic and also requested an extension. I am going ahead and extending this competition till the 15th of this month. I am not sure why no one on this board is creating topics as they used to be. When you have a chance to win Bitcoin before the bull run for free, you should participate in such a competition. @Parvati_j you have still time and for others who are active on the local board you have this wonderful opportunity. None of the other local boards give such an opportunity.

I have updated the OP.
If lack of merits is the factor then that should not be a problem here on. Let people show a little bit of activity with well thought out and useful posts.

I also sent some merit to you @pakhitheboss so you can have sMerit top-ups. Lets get this wagon rolling. Would love to see who bags the prize. i would say that keep extending the competition till we have some good traction. I can help top-up the prize pool when this one ends.

It doesn't make any sense meriting OP in this case. Although I am not against meriting OP but the reason you stated is conflicting with the purpose of this thread.

1. If you want to merit useful posts you can do it directly by giving merits to useful posts instead of meriting OP and then hoping him to merit others.
2. This topic is for identifying useful posts and rewarding the author with BTC and not merits (as mentioned in OP).

In my opinion, what Mr amishmanish did there is not a bad one. Since the op is the host of this contest, giving some merits to either have smerits to share isn't a bad idea. Besides the op deserves even more for stretching out a generous hand of giving from his own pocket, just to increase or help the activities of our local board to grow. However adding merit to the contest would even make it more fun.
Op thanks for this generous act.
10  Local / India / Security tips and reminder on: January 07, 2024, 04:56:18 PM
Hello my fellow Bitcoin enthusiasts
Greetings from my side

Having seen all that is going on around the word in regards to scams and hacks, I want to formally remind us to be security conscious. It is important we acknowledge safety measures, so we'll not be like those who fell victims to scammers and hackers. Trust me you don't want to be a victim of such scams or hacks, and that is why we must take precautionary measures to be on the safer side.

The first tip I'll be highlighting is on your wallet seed phrase. Normally having only your seed phrase stored in a safe place is enough reason to be relaxed and feel safe, but how many of us do test our seed phrase before depositing any asset in that wallet? After creating any wallet, the first thing I recommend and like doing is, I copy the seed phrase on a sheet of paper, then uninstall the wallet from my device, then I install again and put in my seed phrase. If the wallet successfully reopens without any stress then I can now make deposit to that wallet and store my seed phrase in a secure safe that has the ability of a water resistance. Trust me you might want to try this before trusting any wallet for your asset holding. I have seen someone loss all his coins because he failed to cross check his seed phrase by using this method, it might seem funny but, a single character missing could just leave you in shock without access to your assets. Mind you, it's not safe to save your seed phrase on your device or your email or even your Google drive.

Secondly the issues of people using airdrops or business offer to scam other is becoming too frequent on the internet now adays. I remember when I was working on freelancer, I got this PDF editing job that could have paid me well. But the project manager kept insisting that I must provide a security deposit first before I can participate in the project. So after sending my $20 for the security fee, I later found out it was a scam. That was the day I made up my mind never to trust anything that has to do with the internet easily. The settings of the company and the information they provided made it look very legit and trust me anyone could have fallen for their scam.
Some few days ago I saw a post on altcoin discussion, where a user posted an airdrop, but you'll have to make deposit before you can participate in the airdrop. When I saw this, the first thought that came to my mind was the experience I had at freelancer years ago. However there is no legit offer that will request you send them money before you get the reward from their airdrop. So stay vigilant and avoid some kind of offers, they are too good to be true especially those offer that will double your money for you, without doing anything for the company.

Lastly I'll be talking about hacks. I know most of us are guilty of clicking links without knowing the source first. What I mean is, some person deliberately hide links under a short text like "CLICK HERE" we see this oftentimes. But have you ever wondered if the link behind the text is safe? They might be hiding link to malwares or viruses behind a text, or even link to darkweb where your device can be hacked within a minute. So what I recommend is first of all, before opening any link, copy the link address by holding the link for 2 sec, eventually some options will pop up, I recommend you choose copy link address then paste it in a note pad in your device, then you can clearly see the name of the site you'll be redirected to. Always remember that not all links that pops up in our DMs are worth clicking. Some are more dangerous than they appear.

I hope you find this useful, and the comment section is open for you contribution thoughts, or correction if any.

14  Local / India / Re: Can we improve this local board and ensure it benefits user? on: December 09, 2023, 06:35:55 AM
Greeting guys
It's very obvious our local board is lagging behind when it comes to post and activeness, th number of active user operating in the local board is too small, if only we could have more newbies like me to keep the forum active. Although I have not been active in our local board for a while because of some serious personal issues, but those issues have been put to an end, and I hope to be very active from now on.
15  Local / India / Re: Now is the time to buy bitcoin on: October 14, 2023, 08:06:01 AM

Use strong password, for wallet file and keep the recovery seed stored in physical format (write down in paper).

Is this the only option for storing ones mnemonic phrase because to me it isn't safe at all, I have heard of cases where the outbreak of natural disaster destroyed some mnemonic phrase writer in paper, though some persons recommend using water proof and fire proof safe to keep your written mnemonic phrase, but during unexpected natural disaster like that of Libya, when my life is at stake would I even think of saving my safe with me mnemonic inside? No

My point is there must be a safe way to store you phrase online, maybe be encrypting a doc or PDF with you mnemonic inside and then saving it in your google drive, something like that or any other way but there must be a way.
16  Local / India / Re: Now is the time to buy bitcoin on: October 13, 2023, 09:38:56 AM
A hardware wallet would be recommended. But even an airgapped device running an electrum wallet on a TailOS built is enough.

Keeping your device safe and your private keys safe, electrum is not a bad option because the above method may not be feasible for everyone.

No need to be paranoid and lose sleep over wallet, there are many depending upon the type of device you primarily would be using to spend/receive on. Suggest you read more about the wallets and then continue with more questions so others can chime in with their opinions too.

congrats to me guys, i just purchased my first set of bitcoin in satoshis and i am planing on going into long term holding of bitcoin due to the possibilities that the price of bitcoin will continuously go up as time flies. though my coins are still on an exchange but i dont plan to keep them there even till tomorrow. the option of using a hardware wallet for now seem too expensive for me to afford, maybe i'll go with the electrum mobile wallet for now.
17  Local / India / Bitcoin the future of currency on: October 12, 2023, 03:27:22 PM
I was passing through a telegram group and then I found this pic and it then occurred to me that bitcoin is the only currency that is worth keeping our money or worth investing in, as time goes on the value of fiat will depreciate due to inflation, and bitcoin would continue to skyrocket due to the concept of scarcity by the laws of demand and supply which says " as supply reduces while demand remains unchanged, the price increase thus creating scarcity" with this law alone I have come to understand that the price of bitcoin will continue to go up, and now is the best time to buy or accumulate more coins because if you don't, the end product would be regrets. Bitcoin halving is just next year and the halving is another event that is know to act as a catalyst to increase the price of bitcoin.

Some one should help me post the image in this thread pleaseee

You are welcome bitnote, I can see that you are also a newbie like me and your posting ratio shows that you might become an active poster in this local board and the bitcoin talk forum at large, with the little I have seen here in this forum, I assure you that this is the right place to learn and acquire more knowledge about Bitcoin and crypto at large, as you will find interesting topics and discussions here.
I am glad to hear that you have read some FAQs and thread, I'll urge you to also keep the forum rules so as to avoid negative trust.
Here is a thread I created asking for advise and I got some, it might also interest you if you check it out.

19  Local / India / Now is the time to buy bitcoin on: October 11, 2023, 12:14:13 PM
We are now at the two most bullish months ever recorded in the history of bitcoin meaning, its time to buy now and accumulate more coins for those who have already bought some satoshi. It time to increase our bitcoin portfolio by adding some satoshi to it because, history might repeat itself and if we are not on the buying part, we might end up in regret. And mind you it has been advised not to buy any crypto currency with borrowed money so as not to let your emotion make your decision for you.

I found this post on telegram so I decided to share it with my fellow bitcoin talk members.
https://t.me/bitcoin/8502
Though I haven't bought some satoshi yet but I look forward to buying some by tomorrow.

Please, which wallet do you recommend for holding of bitcoin?
