1  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New Diff thread Mar 8 to Mar 22. on: March 18, 2015, 03:26:03 AM
Since a final list has not yet been made, I would consider guessing a difficulty decline of -2.51 to -2.75%

The whole DDOS issue is likely going to cause miners to effectively go offline that based on economics should not be offline

this may turn out to be the best pick yet

real time google is -0.98%

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qmF2knc5rSrJLESgQJYBz8mPzpKihmSzPPQUGH7pT8g/edit#gid=204080645

I think you might be right. The spreadsheet is now showing the estimated difficulty to be -1.92%, although the 3 day moving average is lower at -3.71%

If this drop is being caused by the DDOS attacks, then I am surprised that it is lasting this long, although it could be that pools that were being used by a large corporate farm(s) were affected, and all their miners were effectively kicked offline and for whatever reason were never brought back online.

I would say that if I do not end up winning then the contest will likely roll over because the difficulty will probably decline by more then what I predicted.

3  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I have LOTS of idle servers, should I mine? on: November 10, 2014, 10:55:51 PM
Leave it idle. For every thousand dollars of energy extra used you will earn one cent worth of bitcoin and the denomination of bitcoin will be so small you wont be able to spend it. Regular computer mining bitcoin died a long time ago. Leave it alone.
This assumes that he needs to pay for his own electricity, which is not necessarily true. It is hypothetically possible that the OP works for some company when his job is to oversee a large number of servers that happen to be idle (although the ethics of mining with your company's equipment is questionable).

The OP could also potentially "mine" bitcoin via mining various altcoins via a multi pool that mines scrypt or x-11 coins that would be substantially more profitable on an electric basis

I think there is a very good chance that bipolar bob is some kind of scammer. No one is going to admit to giving a good deal and offing those kind of deals if they don't have some kind of angle. He is also very new.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inside dark wallet on: July 30, 2014, 12:58:56 AM
Anyone with technical skill care to point out if dark wallet concept work?

The Darkwallet concept already does work and is being used right now. Go ahead and download it and start testing it in the testnet:

https://darkwallet.is
Don't you essentially need to trust the darkwallet devs with your private keys when you have coins in this wallet? Isn't the darkwallet basically just using shared send on ever transaction, that researchers have determined to be no so anon?

Darkwallet is open source so anyone can audit the code, if you don't read the source yourself than you have to trust a friend just like with bitcoin core.

Yes, being in alpha , only use testnet coins, and there needs more work done. Not exactly shared send but a simplified version of coinjoin is being used. Coinjoin + stealth is pretty damn good for privacy but there are plans of strengthening the coinjoin implementation:
https://wiki.unsystem.net/en/index.php/DarkWallet/CoinMixing

I think I read somewhere that darkwallet is not 100% decentralized.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Seattle. Such a liberal city, Surrounded by many high tech industries.

its in the US
The US is actually one of the friendlier countries towards bitcoin.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chase Bank Closes Bitcoin related accounts on: July 30, 2014, 12:38:07 AM
The most likely reason for this is probably because too much money was moving into and out of the account verses the account balance so it looks like you are laundering money.

If you are going to do any "trades" out of your bank account, or in any way involving your bank account then you should open a business account.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Buying Groceries...would you use BTC, GOOG or USD...? on: July 30, 2014, 12:25:52 AM
If I have nothing else to spend, I'm going to spend Bitcoin.  If I have something else to spend.... why hasn't it been converted to Bitcoin already?
There is still risk to owning bitcoin, many risks.
12  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Retailers are missing the point of BTC on: July 27, 2014, 12:21:22 AM
This is my .02 BTC

Bitcoin will lower transaction costs for retailers vs paying via cc.

What they probably don't understand is what will be saved from charge backs or the lack thereof.

Not just retailers, bitcoin is changing the way many companies do business. New opportunities for MSBs and micro-lending especially.
I don't think micro-lending really would work with BTC as there are simply too many scammers out there and it is difficult to recover BTC once it has been sent/lent.

Hamas and North Korea in secret arms deal
Exclusive: Hamas has paid North Korea for missiles and communications equipment in arms deal worth hundreds of thousands of dollars
Quote
Hamas militants are attempting to negotiate a new arms deal with North Korea for missiles and communications equipment that will allow them to maintain their offensive against Israel, according to Western security sources.

Security officials say the deal between Hamas and North Korea is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and is being handled by a Lebanese-based trading company with close ties to the militant Palestinian organisation based in east Beirut.

Hamas officials are believed to have already made an initial cash down payment to secure the deal, and are now hoping that North Korea will soon begin shipping extra supplies of weapons to Gaza.

“Hamas is looking for ways to replenish its stocks of missiles because of the large numbers it has fired at Israel in recent weeks,” explained a security official. “North Korea is an obvious place to seek supplies because Pyongyang already has close ties with a number of militant Islamist groups in the Middle East.”

I don't understand how either NK got the weapons out of their country, nor how Hammas got the weapons into Palestine. Both countries have blockaids against them.
14  Other / Politics & Society / Re: White House: Republicans May Push to Impeach Obama If They Get the Chance on: July 27, 2014, 12:03:40 AM
Quote
The notion of impeaching President Barack Obama got substantial attention Friday from two White House officials, who both said senior Republicans wanted to see it happen. But they couldn’t name any senior Republicans when pressed.

Further, White House press secretary Josh Earnest expressed doubt about whether House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) was sincere when he said impeachment is not on the table.

“I do believe that the speaker said on a number of occasions that there would not be steps taken by Republicans to shut down the government over health care,” Earnest said of Boehner, adding, “Maybe you need to ask him a little bit more about whether impeachment is on the table or not.”

Some conservatives have called for impeaching Obama regarding executive overreach on issues such as Obamacare, immigration and guns without congressional authorization. The Democratic National Committee and Organizing for America have consistently used impeachment in fundraising emails to warn donors about what could happen if Republicans win more seats in the House and gain control of the Senate.

Anyone want to bet that this is just hot air?

I don't think this issues are good enough reasons to Impeach Obama?
In fact, Clinton's issue was much more serious (lying, sex scandal) but nothing happen.
In my opinion, this story is just republican's propaganda before the elections.

Clinton lied under oath, which is a felony. Obama has constatantally abused his power and his trust, but I don't think to the point that he should be impeached, I would like to see him resign though.
