What temps were you getting on the Gigabyte 5850? I bought that exact card on ebay, and it consistently overheated to over 90C before thermal throttling, running in open air in a 75F room. Sent it to GB for RMA a day or 2 ago, and have yet to hear back. Just wondering what the normal temp on it is.
i have three of the exact same 5870s and have owned the same 5850... they all overheat and dont mine too well... the coolers on them are crap... i can run any of them singly in my HAF X with over 400CFM in and 250CFM out and it still overheats... that is why they are carried long after all the other 5870s are gone... however, people that put aftermarket coolers on these cards tend to get amazing results (1000MHz+)... i will do some more research to confirm, but i believe you can just put an accelero xtreme plus them for the best air cooling for around $50... im about to get one for each of mine... btw im getting 350MHash/s average @ 950 core (are not down clocking because of heat) and my cards are running around 80-85 C with 80-90F ambients Pardon me for jumping in, but on my 5850 (the one I have for sale), I was seeing 64C running at full load, 416 MH/s. But I have an external fan blowing on my computer. 5850s are great cards, but its a problem with the gigabyte UD GPUs... they just over heat

Good luck... And I have the same fan but at 190 CFM and it is about 3 times louder then a 6990... Mine run at around 55 dBa and 6990s are like 34 maxed out I'm prity sure (dBa is an exponential scale)... If u are in the same room as ur rig for extended periods, they can possibly cause damage to hearing... Sry if this makes it harder to sell, buy buyers should know this info... Anyways, good luck

Honestly, simply setting up a GPU loop would probably be cheaper than full submersion because peltier coolers (witch is what I would recommend for cooling the liquid) are prity expensive... Just get cheap GPU blocks and a 480mm rad with cheap fans... For that matter, if u have a massive farm, you could probably gt blocks custome machined for around $60-70 a block if u get them in mass

whats your average hash rate? i have 3 of the same cards but cant get them over 350

so the other wire gotta go inside the casing and hide inside lol, than maybe put a tape to the original wire outside, so no one will take it out
but actually does datacenter allow this
imagine with that 450w at the 5.25 bay and a 1500w main psu
we can power 4 x 6990 lol
imagine cooling 4x 6990s in an enclosed case :p... lol

lets grossly overestimate that mining will take about 1/2 of your cards life away... that said, an average card will last 6+ years without dieing... even in 3 years time, most miners, being the computer geeks they are (my self included) will have new gen cards or at least be preparing for that upgrade anyways... so my advice is mine away... when they die, its just god telling you to upgrade :p

how many 5870s you got left?

the 14x 5830s still for sale? or are they gone?

Push as absolute many CFMs of air as possible into the GPU fans... Thy are perfectly capible of exhausting the air on their own... if you don't have to deal with noise I would even invest in a few 200+ CFM fans... A 260CFM delta (the highest I'm about) should be 120mm and around $30... I would get one for each case and have them blow directly into the back of th GPUs so their fans can get the cool air... This is all if they are rear fan cards... If thy are not, invest in alternative cooling as you will just trun that case into an oven... I can barely take the heat of 3 5870s in a HAF X with full fans (over 500 CFM in and 350 out)... 6 GPUs is no joke when it comes to heat

Bump... Any other advice or things to try?
