^^^^ - ckolivas posted an updated cgminer today that tries to address the S4 issue(s) with low diffs (also works a treat with the S3+)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=671189.msg9134744#msg9134744

Please tell me how to update my S3+ miners.

Is it under "System" then "Software" then "Actions" after logging into the miner?

If that is where you go, what do I do after that?

I am not sure what you mean by updating your S3+, however, if you are refering to the latest cgminer, then you should SSH into the S3 and login then enter these commands: (press enter after each line)

cd /usr/bin
mv cgminer cgminer.bak
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.1-141009/cgminer
chmod +x cgminer
reboot

Okay, I have MacBook Pro's and Mac Pro.  I do have windows installed via parallels.  That would be the only way to have cgminer on my computer.  So, no, I'm not familiar with that at all.

I'm NEW to mining [September 22,2014] and have no knowledge of how to use cgminer.  So, it's obvious I'm using my S3's "stand alone" without going through my computers via cgminer before connecting to a pool.  At least that's the way it sounds like you are doing it with cgminer.

Ck told me cgminer was built into the S3's one day [Or maybe I misunderstood].  So, I assumed I could do this firmware update in the miner itself.

Please pardon the misunderstanding.

Thank you for your reply.
Correct Cgminer is in the s3 however it's an outdated version you do not run it on your pc however with the program PUTTY you log into s3 in a terminal style interface all black screen etc so you open putty put in the ip of the ant at screen enter root for user hit enter then your password and enter then follow steps **note while typing your password nothing shows on screen** If you are not comfortable with command line entries you may not want to do this also because you have 10 ants you need to do each one independently

you have to ssh into your miners via putty etc note doing this incorrectly can brick your s3 below is copy and pasted from previous thread and I have done this myself I am changing the wget address to current location of new cgminer

1. SSH into the S3 and login
2. Issue the following commands sequentially.
  a) cd /usr/bin
  b) mv cgminer cgminer.bak
  c) wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.1-141009/cgminer    <---------Is the current cgminer refrenced in your posted thread
  d) chmod +x cgminer
  e) reboot

Once again these are commands that you must enter once SSH'd into s3 via putty Do at your own RISK!!!

I predict BTC will be at $475.00 by October 30th...

$540.00 by Thanksgiving

I will take that bet, btc will not even be close to that.

I like your enthusiasm but you need to go to the S4 thread and read all the problems they are having. CK has confirmed it is a hardware problem and did a quick cgminer patch until Bitmain can come up with a firmware work a round which isn't really fixing the problem.

You need to consider the Prisma at 1.4 TH each much better deal and you will come closer to a ROI (noticed I said closer as there is no hardware that currently has a chance to ROI).

Thank You very much for the heads up!!!
I am buying a Prisma but once again I am waiting for batch 2 to use paypal from Asicpuppy.net as even tho at 1.47 btc it's a decent deal I would rather spend the 500+ fiat hoping for a nice rebound

Why would you buy with btc not fiat if you think btc will be 2500 a coin end of next year?

I'm actually looking forward to trading BTC on BitStamp shortly...
also I missed the part where you stated Btc should be worth more and so not be over 4 ea. but still I am a holder I have thought about paying my DISH bill with it etc. but why I spent alot of money and time on my miners with the hope's that maybe I hit the MotherLode lol but if not down the road I can always look at it as a hobby and enjoyable still I would luv btc to be 2500 ea. then the couple I have obtained will be worth a lot  Wink

AND IF THIS DOES NOT CONVINCE YOU ENOUGH ALONG WITH THE SENATE HEARING ON BITCOIN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL...

THE COUNTRIES WHO DO NOT SUPPORT BITCOIN WILL GET LEFT BEHIND...  PERIOD!!!
ok but doesn't answer the question why would you buy s4's with btc like 4 each instead of only 1250 fiat since 4 btc u believe will be 10k in like 400 days? I'm just asking im neither bullish or bearish on the matter just riding to see where it goes but if I had firm beliefs of that price point I would never spend my hard earned btc for miners that even with very small 5% diff jumps wont make back 4 btc in over a year? I would spend cash as I expect the dollar to do what the dollar does and stay worth a dollar
192  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: October 09, 2014, 01:57:56 AM
Tongue  good to see our hashrate has gone up..  Wondering how much of a differernce itl be with the next diff rise.      Also my BTC rewards have dropped by about .018-.025 in the past 2 weeks.   Same Hashrate just much lower reward.   Makes sense I guess.  but it sucks a hell of alot.    BTC diff rise = even less reward... But slush is usually good to us so we may have a higher reward for awhile but not long.

Bought an S3,   So im now running about 5 S1s and 1 S3.   Cheesy   Working fantastically.  Just wishing the BTC dif rise would slow down or drop a little bit.
I have a feeling itll be in the 40s in no time.    Hopefully it slows down.  but i have a feeling itll be in the 40s before and if it ever drops.

Tongue   The $/BTC  well.   That im not concerned about....   im moreless concerned about the diff.

Oh well,  im still making profit and thats all I care about, hopefully everyone is to.

Yes, with my 10 S3's and approximately 6.5 PH/s on Slush on September 22nd, I was averaging .01742882 per block found.  NOW, at 8.2 PH/s average during the week and the difficulty going up, I'm averaging .01456133 per block.

That's why I HAD TO get 6 more S3's on eBay REAL QUICK LIKE!!!  NO TIME to wait however long it would take Bitmaintech.com to get Batch 10 out to us.  So, I bought six (6) NEW Batch 9 S3+'s that should all be here no later than Saturday.  I figured I needed to get 6 more instead of 2 more in anticipation of the difficulty going up several more times before batch 10 reaches the door steps AND in anticipation of other pool members adding to their farm as well, which in turn raises our hashing power and diminishes our share percentage.

I'm getting nothing but S4's from here on out and purchasing them with nothing but BTC on Bitmaintech.com!!!!!!!  ALSO, BTC SHOULD BE WORTH MORE AND NOT REQUIRE AS MUCH BTC TO GET AN S4.  I should get their quicker to purchasing S4's with 16 S3's instead of just 10 S3's.  Each time I add an S4 when it arrives, it means I get the next S4 that much faster, and the next S4 even faster... SO ON AND SO ON...

BTC is DESTINED TO GO UP.  WHICH MEANS MINING WILL REMAIN ATTRACTIVE FOR A LONG TIME TO COME.  WHICH MEANS DIFFICULTY WILL CONTINUE TO RISE FOR A LONG TIME TO COME!  WHICH MEANS TOTAL POOL HASHING POWER WILL CONTINUE TO RISE FOR A LONG TIME TO COME.

IN MY OPINION, IF someone intends to mine from home, like myself, they will need 20 TH/s MINIMUM to maintain a decent amount of profitability!
Why would you buy with btc not fiat if you think btc will be 2500 a coin end of next year?

LOLOLOL

BY THE WAY:

PLEASE READ THIS EVERYONE...    PLEASE!!!

https://cdn.panteracapital.com/wp-content/uploads/Bitcoin-vs-Gold.pdf
so what happens tho when all 21 million coins have been mined and the network of miners stops with no miners to confirm transactions what is bitcoin worth will you have to pay ridiculous amount like .1+ a btc to allow for network propagation to verify and confirm transactions?   Huh Huh

Batch 10 of the S3+ has just gone on sale for BTC0.58.
counter intuitive diff has gone up 16.2% since batch 9 shipped and now batch 10 costs more  then previous batch because of no free shipping i assume due to the fact btc price has dropped lol now this batch s3 looks like 5-6 months roi as opposed to prev 3-4 months o well Cry

198  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 06, 2014, 05:47:10 AM
overpriced miner, and now they are not even hashing to the speed they were telling you... looks like the S3 first batch. It suck that those company are probably hashing with your machine and give them to you once they have been paid off... you can see the network hashrate dropping alot when those are shipping.
yup during shipping hashrate was like 30-40 ph/s lower 240-244 now 272  Cry  Cry and diff gonna jump now was looking good for a negative until last 2 days
199  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee anonymous solo bitcoin and free testnet mining for all! on: October 06, 2014, 05:29:34 AM
S3:s cant handle this much stress theyre given from ckpool, they keep rebooting every now and then. Newer has it happened when mined on p2pool, or i havent noticed that. 3 of 4 have crashed in 13 hours..

Ive installed this cgminer to all of them http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer

my s3's are fine, no problems hashing away. maybe you wanna try the 3334 port ?

mine are running stock FW from BM. so far so good here.

Same reboot happened when tried to solomine terracoin, cant remember if it was stock FW then on s3s.
S1 ones rebooted also when tried to solo terracoin, they seem to be stable on ckpool.

Theyre all hashing at +6C temperature so overheating is not possible I think.
6c seems really low most hash 250m at like 48-50c are your sensors bad
