The reason I went with the S1 is just to figure out all of this mining stuff and works out the kinks, after I get familiar I'm going to invest in a very high end machine.

I'm not sure if both the PCI are on the same line or not, I would think not because to me that doesn't make any sense. Does anybody know, it's not the regular CX500, it's the CX500M. I realized one of the PCI  is an 8 pin so I'll have to buy an adapter for it. There's a lot more to bitcoin mining then I though  Smiley

So I just bought a used Corsair CX430, but I realized it's not what I was looking for so now I'm selling it. It was installed in a computer previously. It is in good condition. I will accept paypal as payment or BTC, whatever you prefer. Asking $28 shipped or best offer.

Thanks!

Hey guys, So I ordered my first miner and it came today. I ordered an Antminer S1 and a Corsair CX430, I realized I need a power cord to plug the CX430 into the wall and I don't have one. This might sound like a stupid question to most people, so I apologize. Is there a special power cord I need for this wattage, or can I just get a standard one like this (Link Removed)
Thank you guys in advance!

Slush "https://mining.bitcoin.cz" is good, I use it as my failover pool now. I pretty much have my miners pointed at CEX.io now.

Where on the island are you? I'm in Massapequa.

I'm on the opposite shore as you, I'm in Huntington. Have you ever been to Zim Zari? They have great good, haha

Yeah, I live right by there.

Whitewood Drive by any chance? Buddy of mine used to live there?

12  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a socially fair currency on: August 21, 2014, 01:21:42 PM
The main problem right now is that the 'average' person doesn't understand Bitcoins, or cryptocurrency as a whole at all. If is hard to accept something you don't properly understand. The media frenzy that happened recently didn't inform the public enough on the function of Bitcoins and how they can be important, they just published stories about Silk Road or about how the value of Bitcoin hit an all time high. In my opinion this is the issue. People need to be informed more.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, and to bitcoin mining.

I order an Antminer S1 to set-up just so I can gain some more experience with mining, didn't want to spend a lot of money and end up screwing something up.

I paid $117 for the unit. I also bought the WiFi adapter kit because I don't plan on having my unit right next to the router, that cost $10. And finally a Corsair 430x as my PSU for $20. That means I've invested $147, don't worry I'm keeping track of all of this on an Excel spreadsheet.

According to my calculations, I should break even in about 3 months based on the current value of bitcoin as well as the cost of electricity. Of course those factors are not fixed and are variable, which is why it is virtually impossible for me to predict a time period to break even. Also if my machine stops functioning that would be a variable factor.

The reason I'm posting this is to ask if there's any advice? I plan on joining a mining pool and am not sure which one would be the best for me.

Thanks! Smiley
