81  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Lending Etiquette on: March 30, 2022, 01:14:48 PM
It could also be that the person really needs to borrow money and it can happen to everyone to be in need.

I've been that person and I've borrowed BTC myself from here when that was the case.
It is not my intention to disparage anybody for needing to be lent money.

Just can't wrap my head around why he needs multiple loans, instead of one consolidated loan; especially when shasan seemed to be willing to give him the larger loan he needed.

If the goal of the person is to collect feedback, he would do it in a short period of time.

To be clear, I am not accusing this user of anything - I see some signs that are red-flags to me, but I'm not the arbiter of what is right and wrong.
I'm mostly just trying to get a feel for how the community feels about the concept(s), rather than trying to go on a brigade against this particular user.

That's a part of the due diligence.

I agree with you that it is the lender's responsibility to vet their potential clients.

I left a neutral feedback to provide convenient caution to potential lenders, and I believe that's an appropriate solution.

Doing a little more testing it seems hit or miss, but maybe one of you can help me figure out what's going on.

This is the link I'm using to attempt and search through the Marketplace board, but It's not showing nearly as many results as it should be. Am I missing something?
83  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Lending Etiquette on: March 30, 2022, 11:50:06 AM
I think this now comes to the lenders who accept giving out loans to such people, and there is nothing much that can be done to stop this vice since it's a free market with lots of competition.

I wouldn't dream of trying to stop the flow of the free market, but there is definitely a lot that can be done to prevent behavior that we don't approve of, even in the spirit of the free market.
We have negative feedback, trust-flags and guidelines that most users will respect.
If we agree as a community that this behavior is frowned upon then normal users wouldn't engage in it.

For example, account purchasing/trading used to be somewhat acceptable and was regularly performed out in the open market by reputable members/escrows. Then, we decided as community that it is no longer something that is acceptable, and now account purchasing is nearly non-existent relative to where it was.

Any lender can choose to loan their money to anybody, but if we decide as a community that it's unacceptable then we can enforce actions on the lendee acting in bad faith by requesting multiple simultaneous no collateral loans.
84  Other / Archival / Re: The forum engine selectively slows down forum access on: March 30, 2022, 11:11:20 AM
Because it seems to me that you are deliberately slowing me down because I am not an ideal representative of the forum

I'd appreciate it if you could help me understand exactly what you believe to be happening.

Who precisely do you think is slowing down your access to the forum? You addressed BitcoinGirl.Club as if they are the one doing it, so I'm curious if you think it's fellow users, the staff or who in particular.

How do you believe they are identifying you and tracking you to be able to slow down your access? If you think they're targeting your username or IP then try new ones and see if your problem persists.

I used to have intermittent challenges when accessing the forum, back when I lived in the middle of no-where and the ISP was one poorly functioning local dude that called himself a business. I think he really just enjoyed sniffing through the entire town's internet usage, but that's a story for another time.

If I felt I was experiencing this problem, then I would do some troubleshooting and investigating to try and narrow down the possibilities instead of acting like a paranoid person and thinking the entire world is targeting you when nobody has the time to do that.
85  Economy / Goods / Re: [FREE RAFFLE] Pokémon Cards 15/16 on: March 30, 2022, 11:00:28 AM
I think that's because you put it in the "Goods" section instead of Collectibles. For whatever reason this section isn't quite as popular.

Thank you for the raffle and the free spot as well as the Pokémon knowledge.  I guess I won't be making a YouTube video if I win, but I'll still be excited.  Good luck to all the future entrants.

I try to follow the guidelines on which board is for what, but like you said there are just certain boards that don't get the attention they deserve. Maybe if I stuck the cards inside an old broken GPU fan I could post this in computer hardware, or tape a Bitcoin Penny Freebie to them to meet the criteria for the collectibles section.

Personally, I think a YouTube video of you getting way too excited and trembling while you open these cards would be worth the watch; just convince yourself that they're million dollar packs.

Can I have 7 please ? Thx !

You certainly can! Consider it yours, I'll update the OP in just a moment.
86  Economy / Goods / Re: [FREE RAFFLE] Pokémon Cards on: March 29, 2022, 08:17:57 PM
I'll take #8.  Thanks for putting on this raffle.  I don't have enough information on the subject to know the difference between these packs and the packs that Logan Paul opens on youtube and sells for millions, so any information you want to share on Pokémon or why some of these cards are so valuable would be a learning experience for me.

I'm surprised it has taken this long to get a single entry into a free raffle, but what can I expect with the mean age of 68 around here?

Pokemon cards were always a big passion of mine growing up, too bad I was too broke to really explore that hobby. Anyways, these are certainly no million dollar packs - these packs that I'm giving away are from two of the more recent releases (Crimson Invasion & Evolving Skies) and can be pretty easily found anywhere that there are trading cards for a few dollars.

The cards and packs that are extremely valuable are the cards that are extraordinarily rare, old and iconic. Logan Paul, if my memory serves, was dabbling in the "1st Edition Base Set Shadowless" packs/cards, which are the cards from the very first print run for America. "Shadowless" is in reference to the shadow they added to the borders of the cards after the very first run. In each release of pokemon, up to a certain point, there are "1st Edition" cards which indicate that they were the first cards printed for that particular set.

So, 1st Edition Shadowless cards are unique because of the art/shadow, rare because of the limited print and as old as English Pokemon Cards can be.

I've got a bit of a collection going and I don't need these packs so I'm hoping someone else has good luck when opening them; I have mostly stopped opening packs because I do not have the luck to offset the cost.

Each release of pokemon cards has a "Chase Card" or maybe even a couple, like a Charizard or a big shiny Snorlax - getting the chase card, on average, requires opening hundreds of packs.

Thank you for grabbing a slot and breathing some life into my raffle, slot "8" is yours!
87  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why 10 min block mining? on: March 29, 2022, 03:39:17 PM
This has been a discussion in the community ever since the idea of mass-adoption was brought up. This has been the cause of forks, fights and frustration throughout the years and I don't think there will ever be a perfect solution.

Quicker blocks is less stability, slower blocks is less convenient  - one can only hope there was purpose behind 10-minute blocks, 21,000,000 bitcoins, the year 2140 and all of the other numerology that surrounds our cult.
88  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2022 Elliott Wave on: March 29, 2022, 12:57:56 PM
One of our users did a great write-up that has gone largely unnoticed on the subject.

The thread can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5274213.0 , by Husires, in case anybody would like a little overview/education on the concept.

I find that these predictive models always breakdown at a certain point, but more power to you if you're able to successfully predict the markets using it.

90  Other / Meta / Re: Question/Suggestion: Forum Settings on: March 29, 2022, 12:09:00 PM
I really wish I'd studied computer science or programming or some related field when I was in college.

Don't beat yourself up too bad, because I did study computer science and programming; still the solution eluded me and the follow-up question didn't have an obvious answer to me.
I think the real advantage here is that they have a doctorate degree in BitcoinTalk.

Unfortunately I think it's way too late for me to start at this point.

It's never too late, haven't you been watching your Gary V?

And welcome back to the forum, bill gator.  Been a while, eh?  I'd been wondering where you'd gone off to (in addition to other members like TMAN and Your Point Is Invalid).  It's always nice when there's a community that's stable in its membership.

It has been awhile, real life took over and taking a vacation away from the forum was a solid move. It's interesting how much of an impact people can have on your life without ever knowing their name, seeing their face or hearing their voice.

The familiar names and personalities are what make the forum an interesting place to bounce idea around.

As far as your search woes go, hopefully you've found a solution that makes it easier--and I'd add that this is one of the aspects of bitcointalk that needs a serious overhaul.  I've often gotten errors just from searching too fast, and that just shouldn't happen in the present day.

You think we'll ever get that new forum software? I think they're on year 16 of development.

92  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 【WTS】 🦁Coming !!!!!!!! The Cheapest Miner From our team 1st day report on: March 29, 2022, 02:10:17 AM
Would you accept the usage of a forum escrow to help facilitate a safe sale?

You are a new account that has no prior history and have presented no proof that these miners are even available for sale.

Generally, even when you are an established member it is routine to show proof that the item is in your possession or you will probably not receive much interest in your thread.
93  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS: 2x Antminer Z11, 1x Antminer S17 Pro 59T on: March 29, 2022, 01:16:24 AM
Computer hardware (child board of Goods) - Trades of mining hardware on-forum for Bitcoin

I accept only fiat (USD or EUR).

It is against the guidelines of this board to refuse to accept BTC. I'm not sure how strict this guideline is, but it is certainly unusual to refuse to accept BTC on the BTC forum.

Miners are located in EU, ship to EU only. Photos on request.

I'm not from EU, so I can't be a potential customer, but would it be possible for me to still request photos? It would go a long way towards giving your thread some legitimacy.
94  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My First Year on this Forum on: March 29, 2022, 12:26:54 AM
I'll try not to get all sentimental on you, but my first year on the forum changed my life. The people here, the lessons and interactions I've had have shaped me as a person and I'm better for it. I've never felt more at home than when I'm here with this dysfunctional bunch.

Just let BitListen play in the background and reflect on everything that BTC has blessed you with.

I hope you get a similar experience from our community, and I hope you have as much of a positive impact on the community as it can have on you.

Welcome to the family.
95  Other / Meta / Re: Question/Suggestion: Forum Settings on: March 29, 2022, 12:16:38 AM
Yes, just add it with a "+", i.e. &search=a+i+e etc (just make sure searchtype is 2).

Test

I knew you had more tricks.

You have made my time here on the forum more efficient, convenient and enjoyable with such a simple trick, and for that I thank you (again).

Now if only we could get a "Double-Sort" or some "Filter" Criteria added as a feature, but I know that's probably pie in the sky.
96  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammers show no mercy, this is how serious crypto investment has become on: March 28, 2022, 11:38:14 PM
This sounds more like a diary entry than a public forum post, but it's possible that I'm missing the point.

It's sad but true that scammers have made more money than investors themselves in this bull market
I disagree with the premise that scammers have made more money than investors, are you able to back that up?

we investors are the ones funding scammers' pocket, this is why you should avoid most metaverse projects and play2earn games, remember they are hungry and angry people that will go any lent to achieve their ill-gotten dreams
Are there particular projects or companies that you feel have wronged you or investors?

lets stop helping them.
Most people are not intentionally helping scammers achieve their goals, so it might be more helpful to lay out some ways to avoid helping them or falling victim to scamming.
97  Economy / Lending / Re: i need 4K loan i can send big intrest if its fast and serious on: March 28, 2022, 07:17:21 PM
There are a few threads that might serve you well, if you actually want to become part of the community that we've got going.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577765.0 - Users are regularly instructed to not lend money without proper collateral. You have not offered any collateral, so this is seen as suspicious from the start.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=119896.0 - This thread has some pointers on how to spot a scammer and you meet the criteria -
5. Straight out of Newbie mode right into Lending (requesting a loan of course)

You are throwing up multiple red-flags, and I would suggest you read the rules of the forum and the board before you post again.
98  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [RAFFLE] 2018 Bitcoin Penny - Silver Single - ICG Graded (MS68) | 15/16 on: March 28, 2022, 05:08:30 PM

Your transaction has been confirmed and you have successfully claimed slot "A".

For your sake, I hope that beginner's luck comes into play for you at some point. Who doesn't love a good underdog?

Good luck!
99  Other / Archival / Re: 2 weeks, want 80$ btc (0.001694) 40% on: March 28, 2022, 05:02:12 PM
No one person will give me a large loan.

Have you requested one and been denied, or are you just assuming that? It looks like you get every loan you request, but I didn't dig that deeply.

My rep isn't good at all tbh

You do not have a single negative feedback, even in the "Untrusted" section there isn't a single negative feedback. You have dozens of high-quality positive feedback from reputable members.
What do you mean your reputation isn't good at all?

ya high risk obv

Feels extremely high-risk to lend to someone that has 3+ active loans that just requested an extension on the deadline, especially when you describe the loan as "high risk obv".
100  Economy / Marketplace / Lending Etiquette on: March 28, 2022, 04:50:42 PM
Tell me if you disagree with me, but I don't believe that it is appropriate for a user to take out multiple no collateral loans simultaneously from different lenders.

This offers an opportunity to farm positive feedback from reputable lenders by using the new loan(s) to repay the old loan(s).

I thought this was something that was already frowned upon, but I've come across the user mnightwaffle: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=71414, who has multiple active loans from multiple lenders worth around $500 and has now created a new loan request: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5391524.0 for $10-$250.

All of these things are red-flags to me, please tell me if I'm being crazy
  • Multiple simultaneous no collateral loans from different lenders
  • Requesting a new loan
  • Requesting loans of such a variable amount - "Ill take $10 or $250" sounds like somebody feeding an addiction.
  • Offering high % interest, for a short term - 40% for 2-weeks
  • Constantly seeking a New Lender that hasn't given them feedback yet.
  • Requesting Extensions on Current Active Loans

I'm looking for some input on whether I'm being paranoid or if this is an extremely volatile situation that is going to end poorly.
