421  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Gamma Insured Pirate Pass Through on: August 18, 2012, 07:07:00 PM
Since Pirate defaulted so soon after insured PPTs became fashionable

Pirate hasn't defaulted.
422  Economy / Speculation / Re: So what if Pirate does not pay back, he has a full weekend to dump... on: August 18, 2012, 06:24:35 PM
Right, must be a coincidence that the weekend he closes shop we see huge dumps after a large rally.

This..

Because everyone is panicing.  Talk to any of the lenders that aren't pirate passthroughs.  Everyone wants to withdraw their money and are apparently selling on the market.

If pirate really weren't going to pay back, why would he say anything?  If he wasn't going to pay back and intended to just dump everything, he'd keep it as quiet as possible and let people support the dumping unknowingly, right?

I think people were moving USD into bitcoin, more so than they normally would, to take advantage of pirate's rates.  This effectively pushed us up to a year high.  Now that the rates aren't available, you have people moving the USD back out of bitcoin.
423  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: imsaguy's Enormously Interesting Extended Investment Opportunity on: August 18, 2012, 05:35:22 PM
There's been enough withdrawals today that I don't need to buy anyone out at the moment, to the point that I've made a small amount of availability.
424  Economy / Lending / Re: Will you reinvest in BS&T if pirate returns your deposit next week? on: August 18, 2012, 05:28:57 PM
I've run companies larger than BST as CEO (not in finance) and honestly if I made those kinds of moves without telling the client base formally and correctly what they could expect from my changed business operations I'm quite sure the board would have canned me without the golden parachute attached.

He's a one man shop.  He doesn't have a staff.  He doesn't have a board.  Its just him.  With tons of people expecting 24x7 availability.  You're comparing apples to oranges.

Like I said, we do not want to ship out just a handful of orders in the first batch and trickle them out.  We want to ship a large quantity in the first batch.

Let me ask you (and by extension everyone else): Do you want us to ship out a small quantity of units first and then a larger quantity later (thereby giving the first shipments a major advantage) or hold on to the units until we have enough (I am still going over what the "enough" is, specifically) to satisfy a large portion of the first set of orders at once?

Its funny, because you make a statement indicating you don't want to ship small orders, but then turn around and ask if the community wants you to ship small quantities.  That's what is upsetting.
426  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: August 18, 2012, 05:15:08 PM
It appears you will be defiant & insulting to the end.  If this is all a scam you realize I was trying to help you guys out all along, right?

And if/when its wrong and pirate does pay people back and you've actively encouraged a bunch of people to call other people scammers, liars, shills, etc, (as well as doing the same yourself) then what?

"Ooops, my bad.  I was just trying to protect you."
427  Economy / Speculation / Re: So what if Pirate does not pay back, he has a full weekend to dump... on: August 18, 2012, 04:55:37 PM
I think, if, as I presume, he's been running a scam all along, he has already sold and withdrawn all the money he needs. The crash in the markets has been either a panic reaction from others

Makes sense, it is not some revelation, however. Obvious is obvious. If it is a fraud which it almost certainly is, the pirate has cashed out his booty long ago. Now let's see how suckers will react on realisation that their net worth is much smaller than they still think/hope/pray it is.

It is so funny to see how suckers and shills celebrate here: "Hooray Pirate sez he will return all the money soon!. It is now proven to be not ponzi..." What a bunch of dumb idiots!

We need shares of popcorn trading on GLBSE.

The good thing is that we all likely will know rather soon.

In best case scenario I've been completely wrong about all of this all the time, I sincerely hope to be wrong, however unlikely that is.
I'm glad you've said that because the amount of vitriol that has been spread on this forum recently has suggested that some people actually want this to be a ponzi - if only to be right.

They do.  A lot of people have shown their true colours throughout all this.   Sorry excuses for human beings, and they can go jump as far as I'm concerned.

I, too, will be pushing pretty hard for some public apologies from these people should Pirate come through (not to me, I couldn't care less what these pricks think, but to pirate first and foremost and then everyone else they've been complete shits to for the past months).
So I take it you'll be making an apology if it turns out we were right all along?

Now on to my opinions:
As for demo units, definitely stick to jalapenos only if they'll be released ready to mine, and I'd suggest keeping it to a VERY small number (say 3-5). If however, you can get agreements signed to mine exclusively somewhere for show you could easily demonstrate your full line of products, even to professional mining operations. For example, send the unit off to whoever under the agreement they can only use it on the testnet until one month after everyone else gets theirs and require them to meet a proof of work quota for that whole month (please do clear it with the devs before you drop 1TH/s on the testnet though, this is just an example. You may need to use a different, possibly custom, chain to keep everything from interfering or getting onto the main chain. If you create your own chain you should release proof that it was not pre-mined to forge the timestamp.)

I think the testnet idea is a good idea.  I'm against a select few getting units to 'prove' BFL and getting to whore the low difficult on mainnet, thereby getting a jump on the 1/3 people.  I'm certainly not against devs getting the hardware before hand to actually make sure the mining software works well with it.
429  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: So now that Pirate is closing BTCST... on: August 18, 2012, 05:10:03 AM
What does that mean?

Two things you can do with bitcoins........sell them or trade them.

"tied" up? You mean like they bought it from him?

If they are "tied" up with clients then he needs to buy them from them at a higher price than they paid for it. Which means he will be short on USD that they gave him for the bitcoins in the first place.

Ok, first off.. selling is trading.  So you only listed one thing.  Second, there are other things you can do with them.

Like what?

Hoard?

Exchange for fiat?

Exchange for alt-coins?

Shorting, lending, etc

Come on, he announced he is shutting down and paying back. What do you think he is doing? Catching the plane to Brazil this weekend?

Maybe not Brazil...

I hear Ecuador is nice this time of year.

BurtW shilling until the very end. Do the other shills have as much heart?

Clipse?  Aq?  Psy?  bitcoin.me ?  imsaguy?

"Silence Lloyd - it's fucking golden" - Ari Gold

What's the point of replying when all you do is bitch and claim we're shills?  or do you just enjoy the troll and run out of material without responses?
434  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: So now that Pirate is closing BTCST... on: August 17, 2012, 11:37:00 PM
So I estimate the redemptions that caused pirate to close up to be around 30-50k btc..

So he can't come up with 30-50k btc today.

But on Monday he'll have ~500k btc all ready to distribute to the depositors?Huh

He has said it will probably take about 2 weeks to totally unwind.
435  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: August 17, 2012, 07:34:03 PM
Pirate's not paid everyone back yet.. so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I am confused as to why you NEED to have people vett and verify that the units exist and do what they are supposed to do?  Why not just let the first shipment tell everyone that?  Do you expect a huge wait time between the time when you have a handful of units that you could ship out to high profile individuals vs when the first large shipment will go out?  Personally, I don't think you need to prove anything.  Your FPGA singles have already proven that you can produce a good mining product.

Let the skeptics be skeptics until the first large shipments go out.  Remember that when you shipped the "test" FPGA's out, plenty of people were still skeptical and said that those individuals were in cahoots with BFL, etc etc.  I don't think you'll get many more people to trust you by sending out units to special people - most people who would trust BFL after seeing a few ASICs out in the wild already trust BFL after seeing the previous-gen Singles.  Just my opinion - certainly, feel free to do what you want.

The difference is that this time around, they aren't trying to prove the legitimacy of the company. They're trying to prove the claimed specs of their new product.

If they've sold as much as they claim to, then they don't need to convince anyone because people have already voted with their bitcoins. Right?

Sorry guys, but you, as the community, decided on the 1/3 strategy. The majority of the folks that chimed in deemed it would be the best way to handle it and that's what we are going with.  It's not only coming up "just now."  It was decided on before we started taking orders.  It was what YOU chose and I find it incredibly unfortunate that there are people now complaining about it.  It is, quite literally, impossible to please everyone, I hope you realize that.

If you want the FIFO method, you should have ordered first and you would be in the 2/3's of the orders that are FIFO (depending on if you're upgrade or new order).  Simple as that.  If you failed to do that, if you waited or hemmed and hawed and someone got in ahead of you, then that's on you.  It was announced when we would be taking orders, the exact date and time, so it's not like it was a surprise, either.

The details for the random, I am trying to solicit the community involvement on how to handle that so it's comfortable for the community.  If you want me to handle it internally, I will do that as well, but I wanted to make it a community project.  But you guys are dreaming if you think we are going to release proprietary sales figures just for the heck of it.  Seriously, what business does that?  The only ones are the publicly traded companies that are required by law - otherwise they would not be doing that either.

With regards to the high profile individuals, if we did NOT release them then you people who are complaining about releasing them would now be complaining about "BFL isn't releasing them because they don't live up to the specs!"  So again, it's impossible to please some people.  We think it is better to release a few units to some devs and media folks to vett and verify that the units exist and do what they are suppose to do, prior to us releasing them en mass to everyone.  If you folks that are complaining want to just take our word for it, then that's ok by us as well, but we certainly can't have you complaining that we are lying about the specs because we aren't showing a unit to anyone trustworthy.

Please excuse me for a bit while I hold on to my BFL hat very tightly to remind myself not to post what really should be posted in response to some of the complainers. Smiley

Then have a media day and allow anyone that wants to visit the lab to see the units in action to do so.  Don't ship units out to hand chosen shills people so they can rape the difficulty all in the name of proving BFL isn't lying (again).
438  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN SAVINGS & TRUST - Just when you thought Bitcoin was instant.... on: August 17, 2012, 08:13:03 AM
He never reinforced shit with me...and perhaps if all of his so-called info was to be found on IRC, then he should have used IRC to recruit accounts and NOT Bitcointalk.org ?

When's the last time he's actively recruited accounts?  Please, quote it.
439  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN SAVINGS & TRUST - Just when you thought Bitcoin was instant.... on: August 17, 2012, 08:07:15 AM
Well, I check 2 places for Pirate Info..... his 2 infamous LOCKED THREADS, neither of which made ANY reference in the OP to 24 Hours per Withdrawal.

While I have your attention Maged, any reason why service operators are able to get away with locking their Service Threads, when they use this forum for active recruitment ?

He has said it repeatedly in his channel on IRC.
Which is to say that he didn't mention this when advertising on the forum for people's money.

Pirate made no guarantee as to timeliness but always has had a personal goal of processing things within 24 hours (which he has reinforced when talking with people) and people still deposited.  If a person really was concerned about turnaround, it should have been put in writing before depositing.
