Operators of Bitcoin Mining Operation Butterfly Labs Agree to Settle FTC Charges They Deceived Consumers

Washington, DC - Butterfly Labs and two of its operators have agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that they deceived thousands of consumers about the availability, profitability, and newness of machines designed to mine the virtual currency known as Bitcoin, and that they unfairly kept consumers’ up-front payments despite failing to deliver the machines as promised.

Under the terms of the settlements, Butterfly Labs and its part-owner and vice president of product development, Sonny Vleisides, and its general manager, Darla Drake, will be prohibited from misrepresenting to consumers whether a product or service can be used to generate Bitcoins or any other virtual currency, on what date a consumer will receive the product or service, and whether the product is new or used. The settlements also include monetary judgments that are partially suspended due to the defendants’ inability to pay.

“Even in the fast-moving world of virtual currencies like Bitcoin, companies can’t deceive people about their products,” said Jessica Rich, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “These settlements will prevent the defendants from misleading consumers.”

Bitcoin Startup Bridge21 Joins 2016 Techstars Boulder Class

Companies such as Bridge21 attract a lot of attention from investors and other people active in the technology world. Bitcoin is a very difficult concept to grasp for most people and any service that makes the transition from fiat to digital currency more convenient is worth keeping an eye on.

Even though the company still hasn’t launched their beta testing phase just yet – which will only be available to US customers, unfortunately – Techstars has taken an interest in Bridge21. So much even that they invited the startup to join their 2016 Spring Class, giving the company a chance to meet other entrepreneurs and avoid some of the pitfalls other Bitcoin startups have made in the past.

23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you do with your idle coins? on: February 18, 2016, 10:13:40 PM
Your Bitcoins effectively "earn interest" just sitting there because with fiat they print money. The interest is only to offset the amount being printed.

I don't see any other option than to HODL as the fiat world hopefully crumbles around us.
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you store your bitcoins? on: February 18, 2016, 10:12:54 PM
Today I'm not currently holding any coins at the moment but usually I keep them on an exchange. Terrible practice really, I know, but one day (hopefully not too late) I will pull them out of the exchange and into cold storage and some kind of hot wallet setup for my own consumption.

If you want I can receive a vouch copy and make an honest review. I don't think you're going to sell this tool without some verification from other people.

cheers

i've sent you a vouch copy, please take a look and don't forget to post your impressions.

thank you!

Thank you for the copy, I just got the file.

I'm not an Excel expert and I'm new to this farming thing, so this is very useful to me, I would not be able to set this organized strategy by myself and it'll save me a lot of time.

Thank you very much!

Bitcoin is perfect for any kind of sexworker like hooker, escort or camgirls. they don't get an credit card acceptance.
with bitcoin they can get an advance payment before they visit you at home or in the hotel suite...
If you are in the UK you can book & pay your escort with bitcoin already.

I personally enjoy my bitcoin Trezor and use it to store about 10btc, the rest is stored offline in paper wallets. Also have some in my phone as well.
Thing is to keep small amounts in many places to reduce chances of anything to happen, at least to a consistent part of your capital. I also find it safe e to store your coins in blockchain and put some 2 factor authentication in login to prevent hackers tpo login in your account. This is specially useful for smaller transactions.

29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's stopping people from using bitcoin? on: February 18, 2016, 01:45:00 PM
Don't forget that for common people handling decimals, authorization keys, wallets, addresses as long as line of code and many other "easy to use" features are completely out of their league. We may be comfortable with them because we are a bunch of nerds but Bitcoin has a long way before it's being considered as a hassle free method compared to Paypal, CCs, etc. I would say that is the biggest problem. For the majority who are new this whole tech thing. Bitcoin usage is beyond them. Using it is tricky enough, understanding it is another level. Without understanding, there is little trust.

New Australian Political Party Seeks to Popularize Blockchain Voting

A new Australian political party has proposed the introduction of a token-based political system based on the concept of decentralised blockchain technology.

Called the Flux Party, the new entity has already attracted more than the 500 members it needs to potentially place senate candidates on ballots in all the country's states. However, the party's immediate goal is to try and elect six senators, according to Reuters.

Notably, the Flux Party will be free of its own policies, electing instead opting for its senators to vote for or against legislation at the bidding of token holders.

Party co-founder Max Kaye told the news source:

"If they didn't have to be senators, if they could just be software or robots they would be, because their only purpose is to do what the people want them to do."

At election time, the bitcoin-like tokens would be issued to Flux members – as well as single-issue campaigners that support the party. The tokens can then be used either use to vote, trade with others or give to trusted third parties to carry out proxy votes.

Microsoft Moving Beyond Bitcoin To Create Blockchain Marketplace On Azure Cloud

At the end of 2014, Microsoft announced plans to integrate the cryptocurrency bitcoin — at the time experiencing an unprecedented surge in value — into its Windows and Xbox payments system. The news caused the price of bitcoin to surge, but the initiative never really gained widespread support. Microsoft is now looking beyond bitcoin, however, and trying to create a marketplace for the blockchain, the distributed ledger technology on which bitcoin is built.

While bitcoin may have grabbed the headlines with its wildly fluctuating value and its mysterious creator, known only as Satoshi Nakamoto, it is blockchain that is seen as the real innovation. On Monday, IBM announced it would put major resources into helping its customers to develop apps built on the blockchain, and Microsoft is also eager to gain an advantage over competitors by building what it calls a “certified blockchain marketplace” on its Azure cloud platform.

“We want, and frankly our customers want, access to every blockchain,” Microsoft’s director of technology strategy, Marley Gray, said in an interview with CoinDesk. “It could be two guys in a garage that forked bitcoin and had this genius idea and people want to try that out. We don’t want to have any barriers. We’re open to all. We help even the smallest of players onboard.”

IBM’s Latest Project Could Be Huge for Bitcoin

IBM Sees Potential in Bitcoin
If you doubt bitcoin’s chances of success, this new technology could convince you otherwise.
Indeed, the technology has such potential that computer giant International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) has just endorsed its creator, Blockchain Ltd. Blockchain’s technology purports to ensure transparency and security for bitcoin users.
IBM is setting a new standard for Blockchain software. Blockchain gives IBM stock a jolt of innovation that will help both the technology and IBM stock move toward take-off.
Blockchain is closely related to bitcoin, a cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is issued through a peer-based exchange system, devoid of any centralized control. Inventor Satoshi Nakamoto explained the basis in 2009. He suggested that in a bitcoin economy, there is no need to trust a person, company, body, regulator, or government; you just trust the algorithm.
IBM has just become the biggest backer of one of the technological pillars of bitcoin. IBM will begin testing its own variation of the software known as Blockchain. Its first target market involves customers who lease IBM’s computer hardware.

37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Bank??? on: February 17, 2016, 05:13:12 PM
The thing is related to generate interest the same way as fiat banks does nowadays, bitcoin todays is the best way to protect and give our money the real value that banks keep for them.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Bitcoins have Tax?? on: February 17, 2016, 05:12:42 PM
well, there is no way around it, you will need to get those 10K taxed and explain where the Bitcoin came from to the government, because you can't get away with buying a car without telling the government, and let alone a house, so your untaxed Bitcoin are only useful to buy small stuff, if you want cars and houses, it's impossible that the government doesn't end up knowing about it.

So my question is, should we report all of our BTC now, or should we do it with only the amount we are interested in selling, and do it in the future when we want to sell that amount to buy something and not now?
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin 'real money' to you? on: February 17, 2016, 05:10:38 PM
Hell yes!!  Grin I really feel that it is real money. In particular, also because it has a value.  You can buy things clear, and sell and even trade. So I think it's real money.
40  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do you have Bitcoin? on: February 17, 2016, 05:09:03 PM
I think it's much better to have more sources than relying on bitcoin to support you when you get retire. But working on Bitcoin is a good thing to work after you retire. You can do it at home with no pressure involved...
