1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 20, 2014, 11:06:43 AM
Why hasn't bitmain replied to my e-mail when other people are already receiving their replacement PSUs?

I replied to bitmain (shao) on the 15th Oct regarding the replacement psu.
Today they (shao) emailed me saying he is still waiting for my email regarding the replacement psu.

I took some screenshots of my sent email, and emailed them once again.

Maybe they did not receive your original reply to their email.

Thank you so much for the time you've invested to make the S4 more funtional, ckolivas. I'm going to send you a donation tomorrow morning.

I'd like to try ck's new version tomorrow, but I have no idea how to go about updating cgminer. Can anyone shed some light, or point me towards a guide?
Assuming your S4's IP address was say 192.168.1.99:

Code:
ssh -l root 192.168.1.99 (or equivalent with putty)
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s4/4.6.1-141018/cgminer
mv /usr/bin/cgminer /usr/bin/cgminer.bak
chmod +x cgminer
mv cgminer /usr/bin/cgminer
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart

I think that might not keep across a power cycle though.

I did this, turned the power off, turned it back on, and I have noticed that the web gui has become quite slow?
previously when navigating through it, it was quite fast on loading pages, etc

Also, after ssh the above, after reboot, in terminal it shows;

PARAMS = --bitmain-dev /dev/bitmain-asic --bitmain-options 115200:32:8:7:200:0782:0725 --bitmain-checkn2diff --bitmain-hwerror --queue 8192

Is that anything important?

Thank you for your help ck.

I turn my S4 off at night, and on again in the morning.

Is there a reason why the highest number for 'BestShare' is always found within the first 45 minutes,
and then the following 12 or so hours it doesn't seem to go any higher? (it has been doing this for four days so far)

So for example,

one day I turn the machine on in the morning, first 45 minutes,
bestshare is found at 7561782, stays at that number for the next 12 hours or so.

another day I turn the machine on in the morning, first 45 minutes,
bestshare is found at 14561782, stays at that number the next 12 hours or so.

Now I understand that it will stay at that number if it doesn't find anything better,
but why is it always peaking during the first 45 minutes and thereafter nothing higher?

I am using solo.ckpool.org and I am just wondering if this is normal.

And others say they don't work on Guild...I love how it seems ASICs are becoming even less consistent than their first generation units.
Occasionally they ping us after the fact and expect us to fix their problems.
...which is exactly what happened with the S4...

It turns out the controller is so low powered that it can only process ~30 shares per second which mean that unless diff is set higher, they work their way into a death spiral before diff catches up. Great...

(quoted from another thread)

Is this a problem if one is using an S4 with solo.ckpool.org?

I have 10 S4 running.

All stable at 2 TH/s, no problem with the firmware our psu.  Smiley

My S4 is also stable at 2 TH/s as well.

Did you update cgminer from 3.12.0 to 4.6.1?
Truman wrote in the german section that he is mining on BTC Guild...
What is your pool?

It is solo.ckpool.org, but after updating the firmware, the miner status goes higher, but ckpool has gone lower.

In this picture it shows 3576.94 GH/S(5s), does that mean it went up to that for five seconds?
because since the firmware update the (5s) part seems to bounce up quite high? it didn't do that before the update.

I have pointed my S4 to solo.ckpool.org

Can someone answer a basic question for me.

If I were to turn my miner on in the morning and then turn it off before
I go to bed, apart from the hours of mining lost during the night,
do I still have a equal chance of finding a block while it's on?

I am wondering if turning it on and off everyday is an ok thing to do if one did not want it on at night?

Is there a Dogie's miner setup guide for the S4?

Hello, needs the S4 a normal C13 cable (like a PC power supply) to power?

Like this:

I ask because Bitmain write 16A and C13 is normaly not rated for 16A.

Yes, judging by the picture it's C13. You'll need a 14GA C13 if running on 120V, or standard 18GA if 240v.

I'm in the UK and I can't seem to find a 16a c13.

Could someone provide a couple of links to the correct cable needed for the S4?

So is anyone willing to admit that they've actually bought one?   Grin

I bought one, and maybe I am the only one that is willing to admit that.

Bitmain, can you please answer a question I have?

How much would shipping be to the United Kingdom with UPS for one S4?
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 2TH/s, Batch 1 on Sale this week, shipping before Sept. Ends on: September 25, 2014, 11:30:45 AM
$1450 (3.5 btc+) + shipping + import duties / tax (to the United Kingdom). That is really quite expensive.

still no specs and the ridiculous price.
so i need to search further to expand my mining operation.

Has this always been on the front page of the thread?

AntMiner S4 2TH/s, with extraordinarily high power efficiency and enormously powerful hashing capacity, now is available for global sales.
The 1st Batch of AntMiner S4 is 1,450 USD each, which is estimated to be shipped before September 29th.
Shipping not included. This Batch will be on sale at 22:00pm Sept. 25th BeiJing (UTC +8 Time Zone)

16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 2TH/s, Batch 1 on Sale this week, shipping before Sept. Ends on: September 24, 2014, 06:24:39 PM
S3 miner was 0.58. 6 of those (2.8 Th/s) comes in at the same price for way more hashes.

Would it not cost more in electricity to run 5 x S3's than an S4?

Bitmaintech.com is down. Here's hoping it will come back with the S4 available for purchase (at a decent price)

I don't think the S4 will be for sale today, it is currently 11:34pm in China.
Bitmain has not been on the forums today. Their online support also has been offline for today.

Peicali sent me earlier today this email >>>
I cant confirm if its true or not but the supposed last week has passed.

BTW, i have confirmed with the owner of bitmain and lketc that the S4 will not released before 7/10/2014 and the  new batch of dragon 1.5T will not released before 28/9/2014.

Who is Peicali?

He is joking.

They have to announce the specs and price sometime this weekend right.

I don't think it will be today, most likely Monday or Tuesday.

A couple of days ago someone in this thread (not me) posted an email from bitmaintech
the email said that they contacted bitmaintech and bitmaintech said (if I remember correctly)
something along the lines of 'hopefully sales should be early next week'.

After two minutes, that email was then deleted from this thread.
The person that posted it also copy and pasted the 'confidentiality' bit
that had words like prohibited and confidential at the bottom of the email.
