21  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next consumer model miner on: February 23, 2015, 07:23:33 PM
I've got dibs on engineering the housing hardware!
22  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? on: February 19, 2015, 04:38:24 AM
I did the math, if they get it down to 0.4w/gh then yea it'll be 250gh per blade.  so it should just be a firmware upgrade and good to go.  but the way they are charging for TH I doubt it will be cheap.
23  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Neptune Miner on: February 18, 2015, 03:35:30 AM
this gentleman is selling 3 s3's that are worth buying:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=958566.0
Just buy all three of his top performin s3's and some of his power supplies and call it a day.  he will probably make you a deal if you buy all three at once + PSU.

you want to get in the game a little just do this.  That will get you about 1.45 TH for under $300.  not too bad.  They are very good miners for beginners as most s3's are not temperamental.

DO NOT BUY THOSE NEPTUNES. Undecided
24  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Neptune Miner on: February 18, 2015, 02:41:24 AM
Neptunes are only really worth 500 bucks.  You are getting ripped off.  don't pay more than $200 TH, even that is high
25  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Have access to 800 amps on: February 17, 2015, 03:41:30 PM
I would go with the the most efficient miners, rather than saving a few bucks on older technology.   This will keep you in the game longer when difficulty increases.

I totally disagree with that.  If you are running a business, depreciation of capital assets accelerates as obsolescence increases.
There is no comparison of $120 for 1th at 1w/gh vs $380-400 for an s5.  X150, This is not a few bucks.

you can buy the old hardware, hammer it out for a few months, then depreciate it on your taxes and move on to less older hardware.

in this year there are a few things to consider though.
best mining times where between 10/2014-now.  Meaning one should have started early october 2014.  during that time, the difficulty did not skyrocket.   used cheap equipment would have paid for themselves months ago.  one would be in profit at this point.  in 2015, there will be some difficult factors.  by may, there will be a huge difficulty jump as more mining farms get first dibs on HW with 0.2w/gh or less.  so again the difficulty skyrockets.  Then you will need to almost double your computing power by 2016 in order to prepare for the halving.

so can you make money now? yes, but you better start like in 2-3 weeks.  then you should run all the way until you break even, then pull the plug.  Recycle what you can then in sept-oct buy summer released miners.

or you can do what others do.  Buy new miners, mine them for 1-3 months then sell them at a slight discount vs msrp with free shipping.
But that can complicate things on your taxes/accounting.

26  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Have access to 800 amps on: February 16, 2015, 08:46:22 PM
you can run about 150TH at 1w/gh with that feed.
if you're smart, you buy used miners at no more than $100-150 per TH
then spend about $30k on miners

boom, $6-10k a month after electricity - rent (hopefully less than 2k)

you MIGHT ROI in 3-5 months, then it's profit.

you can host, but that market is becoming saturated. So you can do a mix of hosting and mining.
27  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How fast would this gaming computer I am about to buy mine? on: February 16, 2015, 04:16:33 AM
denomination would be so small that no mining pool would allow you to withdraw it.

except westhash but that isn't a pool
28  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: miners running wirelessly in an outbuilding? on: February 12, 2015, 09:30:45 PM
I run a powerline adapter from inside my garage to the house.  Works like a charm.  The plug you use should not have a switch or be spliced or be part of other chains.

modem->router->Powerline Adapter->Garage->powerline adapter->48port switch->miner
29  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S6 speculation on: February 12, 2015, 03:53:12 PM
I bet S6 will have better efficiency with the same S5 chip.

And about 25% more efficient I guess 0.38 W/G

JG

I think slightly before s6 they will come out with s2.5
PCB replacement boards for the s2, each board 250ghs
I just hope they don't charge too much.
30  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling 4 Antminer S3+ miners (Looking to sell as set all at once) on: February 12, 2015, 12:57:10 AM
I had no idea s3's can go 400+ mhz!  Amazing how did you do that?
31  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 10, 2015, 07:27:45 PM
connect a laptop directly to one of them after hard reset.  Then do the usual 192.168.1.99.
if using windows, make sure your networks settings are set to directly connect to miner

Does it connect?
32  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 08, 2015, 11:33:23 PM
If you are Running more that two c1's that's what should be done.  I connected 4 miners this way.
I will scale up to 12kw in the future. Im designing a cooling tower + heat exchanger setup for the summer.  Should be pretty fun.
33  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] Habanero or equiv boards functional on: February 08, 2015, 07:13:25 PM
Need only the boards.  Will buy up to 15 boards if the price is right.

Escrow must the usual guys.
Hero, Dontator, Legendary status do not need to use escrow.

These fans work just as good.  It's next to impossible finding a 140mm PWM that can go 3000rpm.  So just use the 120mm size.  The colors of the wires match up with the old ones.  The connector will fit on the mainboard pins, you just need to push them out on the fan connector and rearrange them. Also you need to use an exacto knife or scissor blade to remove one of the notches on the fan connector.

To mount them use zip ties, one set for the fan, then another set for the fan grill.

I've done this for two s2's for all four fans each.   They actually make the s2 run cooler, they are about the same loudness as the 140mm ones.
35  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Bladecenter H 2880W Breakout Boards. First batch closed, collecting deposit on: January 30, 2015, 08:08:04 PM
What is the median price for those PSU and how loud are they ? Thanks Smiley

PSUs are usually around 50$ in the US, and noise level is like most of the server PSUs with fans, let's say vacuum cleaner.

Like a high pitched 16amp upright vacuum.  If you have thin walls, the sound will go right through.  You definitely cannot live in the same building with these.  It's well above 80db.
36  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Water-cooled S5 Group-buying Thread on: January 30, 2015, 12:44:29 PM
dead give away was him/her asking for BTC when I know for a fact syscooling does NOT accept BTC at the moment.
37  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Water-cooled S5 Group-buying Thread on: January 29, 2015, 03:47:30 PM
Put me on the list for an 8 board complete water cooled kit when the price drops below $1200.

Lol,  me too!!
In all seriousness. I truely believe that would be the correct price point.
38  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Water-cooled S5 Group-buying Thread on: January 28, 2015, 09:24:00 PM
tupsu

I was talking about used equipment,  as you know is cheaper.  28nm this year is end of life.  so prices are high to pay for new tech.  We should not pay more that 200-225 per TH for watercool.
I don't care too much of differences in efficiency.  You are smart, you know the difference of j/gh is small and we don't keep miners long enough to pay much difference in electricity cost.

additionally the s5 x 4 watercool is not quieter than other miners, include sound from radiator fans and power supply.  2x 1300 watt power supply is ripoff.  IBM H2880 power supply is better cheaper.  H2880 power supply is very noisy but works better, total price around 110$(w/j4bber board)+40$ cables.

remember antminers are made in CHINA an so is syscooling product.

both are making at least 150% profit before shipping.
I find it ridiculous syscooling are charging 4% poundage for paypal, they should pay not us.

I love syscooling new product for s5, but they need to improve business transaction ideas.
39  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Water-cooled S5 Group-buying Thread on: January 28, 2015, 05:05:42 PM
that price is unacceptable and too high. We can get a much better SP30-31 for that much.  yes not water cooled, but much more reliable.
40  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 27, 2015, 08:19:39 PM
Coolant ->in should always be in parallel, same goes for coolant out.  The water block design is made such that once flow through the orifice is calculated, the feeder trunk should have a certain pressure and head maintained.

This current pump can do up to 21ft of head, 3-4gpm.  Pump type wilo star 21.  It is perfectly suited for this application. Ebay for about 65$ US new.

If anyone is interested I can create a BOM and people can use it.
