1021  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [WARNING] Gross incompetence by MtGox in handling sensitive AML info. on: October 19, 2012, 06:37:43 AM
Update:

USPS now shows delivered.  I guess that can be really good or really bad.

I just spoke to Gonzague at MtGox and he said that they can still get documents at that address. He is not sure why they couldnt deliver it the first time.

Email him: gonzague@tibanne.com

wtf, then why "send them again"??
1022  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Promoting bitcoin - "Pay Less with Bitcoin" on: October 19, 2012, 05:54:40 AM
I was thinking maybe there could be a project where we encourage web stores to take Bitcoin as payment and offer a discount (like 3%, about paypal's fees) for those who purchase with bitcoin. In addition, the official 'Pay Less with bitcoin' site will showcase stores and give out free advertising, and could develop easy to use and integrate plugins and APIs to make accepting bitcoins be something that takes around a hour to set up and get working.

Just make sure you explain to them all the fees the exchanges will charge them to exchange BTC to USD or EUR and to withdraw fiat to their bank.
And don't forget to tell them that they should go sell the bitcoins in a hurry, preferably as soon as they get them(which is impossible because of the network confirmations needed before they can spend them and before any exchange let's them sell the BTC) or else they risk to lose 20%.

You still think they should give a 3% discount for paying with Bitcoin? Think again.

If a vendor -wants- bitcoin though it saves them CC fees plus the fees involved with buying coins with old monies. And there are more and more reasons to want bitcoin all the time.

1025  Economy / Speculation / Re: RALLY!!! on: October 19, 2012, 12:11:09 AM
Wrong again. You can make "wrong" movies with wrong information and the market won't be less efficient. It does not take two to tango.

Your statement 'You can make "wrong" movies with wrong information and the market won't be less efficient' is not the same as my thesis that every bit of information must be known by opposing forces in order for the market to be efficient.  If my condition is broken, then the sole party with the true information can use exactly the tactic you describe to break the efficiency.  They purposely let the price deviate from it's true value in order to gather money from suckers.  I'll give you that the break is temporary because they have to take profits at some point, so sure, all markets are "eventually" efficient.

They would have to know the info and know that no one else can get the info and use it to make money by being less greedy.

How lonbg's it take to get paid out for a high hand during th epromotion? won a hand with four 9's, still waiting on the 100 chip payout...

I talked to Aahzman, this turned out to be from not showing the hand. I added that to the lobby message about the promo on his suggestion.

1027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We're a bit "odd" - David Birch Lift 2012 on: October 18, 2012, 09:18:03 PM
I think it's simple in the sense of if you've got a ton of capital then it's quite easy as sellers want to use you to expand their potential market and buyers want to use you for ease or whatever you offer. However you've got to be of Paypal level to do that.

Right, which is the complete opposite of simple to do. Maybe he means simple to imagine?
1028  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - Biggest Bitcoin Poker Site - Ring games, MTTs and Freerolls on: October 18, 2012, 09:16:44 PM
There is a new weekly guarantee tournament on Friday!

It is the Friday Swell Guarantee at 11pm ET. The buy-in is 0.4BTC and the guarantee increases by 1BTC each week that we don't have to add money to the prize pool to meet the guarantee. The guarantee tomorrow will be 1BTC.

He's also running a very busy business.  I'm sure he'll post back with any updates.

Yeah, it's hard work doing what the government tells you to and doing it damn badly.

But I get it, they're probably swamped under a mountain of documents that never showed up.
1031  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox gross incompetence with handling sensitive (and expensive) AML information on: October 18, 2012, 07:03:14 AM

I am beyond furious right now.

They just moved to a new office like 2 weeks ago, and probably forgot to update the address on that page of their website.

Although its their fault, I wouldn't be too pissed off because its an easy mistake to overlook and can happen to anyone.

Calling it gross incompetence may be out of line. While your information is extremely sensitive, even you could have made the same mistake if you were in their position.

This is blowing my mind. Of course a private person responsible for only their own stuff could give a wrong shipping address! Why does that matter at all? Beyond that if I a wrong shipping address it 100% automatically falls on me, I don't get my stuff.

Also how can they overlook it? Aren't other people sending documents there? After a month you would think they might go "Huh, we don't get documents now that we moved".

Bleh, we need new business so we can finish putting this one out of our misery.

1033  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stop gambling your coins unless you're playing for entertainment! on: October 18, 2012, 12:04:14 AM
Here is another reason to gamble.

You have 2.7BTC left over from before your GPUs burnt your house down and need 3.25BTC for your order from a certain website to ease your pain. You could go through the hassle of buying 0.55BTC or you could bet exactly 2.7 to win 3.25 on Myriad and have an 82% chance at avoiding the hassle and fee.

People with discontinuous utility/btc curves can profit (it terms of their utility) by making negative EV wagers at the right times even disregarding entertainment value.

while every other US site is taking 2+ weeks

Is it true? thanks.

I don't 100% know, but everything I've heard for the last year is that 4 weeks is fast for them.
1035  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-10-16 InfinitiPoker’s Plan to Shake Up Online Poker on: October 17, 2012, 02:33:56 AM
Taking bitcoins only for US players but standard methods for the rest of the world is huge. It basically ensures that us players dont have their money stolen from the govt on the way to the poker site like full tilt. This is the first gambling site that takes standard money and bitcoin, which gives it great potential for getting a bunch of new people into bitcoin. There is also the fact that they're going to be able to cashout US player in bitcoins in a few hours, while every other site taking US players is taking 2+ weeks to send a check that might bounce. The potential for bitcoin in online gambling in the us is insane. Every bitcoin gambling site should be pretty happy right now knowing that in the next few months there could be a bunch of new bitcoin users who are gamblers showing up.

Switch poker takes EUR and BTC. Accepting bitcoin is smart, but it doesn't automatically make a site huge.

Oh, and in case it's not obvious.  This is a stupid idea because illegal trade will occur regardless of volatility.  Legitimate businesses need a stable currency before they will adopt it.  You are only defeating your own goal.

Yes, but legitimate businessmen can read so they'll be in on it  Roll Eyes
