His comments would be funnier if they didn't represent most people's initial reaction (e.g. "It's made on a computer, therefore it can be copied and cheated, therefore it cannot be trusted and should be worthless"). It adds to the already overwhelming sense I've got that for bitcoin to truly go mainstream an enormous portion of the public will need to get a basic intro to cryptography. I'd wager that most people don't even know what modern cryptography is, let along that it already makes possible nearly everything they do online. Amazing that people think that, but aren't interested in doing that (copying bitcoins) and getting rich while everyone is overvaluing them.

That makes sense.
And for PP chargebacks ... if you show Paypal the ebay mails with the buyer's code and then the transaction details from blockchain explorer, isn't it proof enough that you have delivered the goods?
No. In theory it could but PP "investigation" doesn't really care. They are more like "checking the block" and looking for signs of blatantly obvious fraud. There goal isn't to protect you but merely to protect PP brand/image. They have no interest (or time) to do any detailed research of authenticating emails, learning about the blockchain and how that can prove funds were sent. 1 make a new wallet 2 print in on paper 3 put funds on that wallet 4 sent paper via mail keep prof of sending mail 5 no charge backs can be done anyone who want to charge back scam you is fucked Not really. They used a stolen card or account and the real owner says so and gets the money back.

The Drifter is over.
There is now a daily morning guarantee. 2BTC guaranteed, 0.2BTC entry, 10am ET. Aww ! I tell ya, it was a good night doubletabling The Drifter along with the 3am 3000 chip guarantee. and I was sooo tired Would actually like to see The Drifter remain. I like the idea of having a tournament that rotates around instead of at a fixed schedule. Maybe it doesn't have to be the same buy-in or guarantee, but it is a good name for a tournament, and a good concept. Would be a shame to end it. -- Smoov Thanks for the feedback, it or something like it will return. Actually, last night I was in the freeroll... and on one hand, I knocked out 3 people in a single hand... and on another hand, 2 people... which sparked the thought, that it is a shame that there aren't any tournaments with a knockout bounty... So, perhaps that could go on the to-do list, and bring back The Drifter as a knockout bounty tournament? -- Smoov Bounties would be great. It's on the to-do list.

What security precautions do SWC take against hackers?
For example, if some hackers did manage to break into your server and steal every bitcoin in unencrypted wallets on that server, would the users take the loss or are you enough protected to still be able to continue the site and/or pay out users that requests it? How many, percentage wise, of the coins in your system are stored in a) offline storage and/or b) properly encrypted wallets?
After all the hacking recently, I don't know if I would trust any service that does not store enough coins on offline servers to still function should a hacking take place.
I can and would take the loss. The large majority of deposits are in two encrypted off-server wallets, the exact percentage fluctuates.

Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Quick, answer! Is BTC 0.000152 big or small?
|

Exactly, so there will be some confusion when some sites display prices in BTC and some in mBTC. You need to pay attention to see what small letter there is in front of the BTC, is it "m"? is it "u"? somebody said something about "n". Wow that is the argument. Got sidetracked; that is not the main argument. The main argument is people seeing prices like 0.00231 or 0.00097 which is not right because they are not "transaction-friendly" (for a lack of a better word). They are not transaction friendly because the way we are used to deal with the power of 10 in our daily lives. This is the argument. And it seems I'm not the only one thinking like this. P.S. Hundreds of threads on this topic, and this one doesn't seem to have added much, if anything, to the discussion. @markm I don't know what you are talking about there ... A split can be as simple as community agreeing that the mBitcoin is THE BTC and display all transactions accordingly in the wallets, mining software, ecommerce sites, etc. Already mined bitcoin will just be displayed as x1000 (if we are to use the m BTC example). What has Mgox and speculators has to do with anything? "The community" isn't going to do anything as instantly as that would require. Just use whatever name you like for 1/1000, eventually one or more will catch on and be the de facto base unit. At Seals we use 'chips' to mean 1/1000. This isn't a real problem because people can solve it easily when and where it matters.

Oh, I just noticed you are AUS. The shipping cost and time will probably keep me from ordering directly, but the site looks good and I'll keep it in mind to refer people to. Any chance of shipping the same stuff from US in the future?
Shipping costs are in dollars on the shipping info page btw, I imagine you'd want to convert the same way you do the prices. How do you do them btw? They don't seem to have adjusted in the last 15 minutes of craziness.
