If they offer something for free, the product they're selling is you.
Yes, they're selling you to advertisers. They openly admit that. That's the whole point of free bitcoin sites. Roll Eyes

So is facebook, and look at the sheeple joining them in flocks every day.

Yeah, but facebook doesn't tell sheeple that they're being sold to advertisers, except in their ever-changing privacy policy that nobody ever reads. If they were more open about their sheeple-selling practices, there would be no problem, except for the fact that sheeple would no longer join them in flocks.

I know right! I am giving away free ad supported bitcoin at http://mycryptcoin.com/ and I am letting it known that it is ad supported and people are acting out. I am being Honest.

Um, 5000% is 50 times, not 5000. Which is it?

Oops... thanks for catching the bad math. it is 5000 times the usual payout whatever that is in percent.

Its a scam because its SolidCoin!. Enough Said!

I still can't believe that CH and crew thought simply changing the name was to fool anyone.

I made 40 Bitcoins from that SolidCoin crap so I don't feel too bad. I was foolish though I could have made at least 500 Bitcoin if I had played my cards right.

135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction rate all time high on: May 12, 2012, 10:23:27 PM
Just speculating ... why the sudden spike in transactions per day?

http://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions?timespan=all&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

The spike in late 2010 was caused by a spammer/troll.

The spike in June 2011 was caused by a spike in bitcoin users after the media hype.

The current spike seems to have come out of nowhere. Any ideas as to who might be doing this?

because of my new faucet... http://mycryptcoin.com/ lol

It seems like dailybitcoins.org gives away 5x what you do as a MINIMUM.

No it does not! they allow you to get coins once in 24 hours. I allow you to get coins once every hour, you can get coins 24 times per day on my site. NOW go get some free coins DAMN IT!.... lol.
Per use I am correct.  They give away about 1/4 of a penny per use.  You give away about 1/20th of a penny.  I tried your site out to see if it works, and it does.  But I do not go back to dailybitcoins.org for 1/4 of a penny, I am not going to go to yours for 1/20th of a penny.

You should tweak the model, offer larger random payouts, or do something more unique then just more payout chances per day.

Thanks for the advice, I will take it into consideration when I make the next round of changes.
136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Announce] new ad supported bitcoin faucet mycryptcoin.com on: May 12, 2012, 10:22:02 PM
Update! I removed the popup and the interstitial ads. The site should be much better to use now.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Faucet on: May 12, 2012, 10:17:32 PM
Just to clarify some things guys.

  • The process of requesting Bitcoins takes about 15 seconds or less. We do not send bitcoins in 15 seconds.
  • Our transactions are grouped and sent in batches of 25 to reduce transaction fees. If less than 25 requests are currently pending, the site will not send them until the request count reaches 25
  • This is not a scam. Just try it, what do you have to lose?
138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Announce] new ad supported bitcoin faucet mycryptcoin.com on: May 12, 2012, 08:29:07 PM
holy crap I best get a bunch of coin with the amount of ads there are!

0.001 btc? You've got to be shitting me...

Sorry that the payout is so low right now. The ad model is very tricky, I could end up giving away more bitcoins than the ads bring in. I will adjust the payout once i get a better idea of how much money ads will bring in.

Dont know if you realize but unlike other ad supported faucet you are allowed to get coins once an hour and not once ever 24 hour. You can hit my faucet 24 times for the day.

Cheers...

yeah I just ran rough numbers in my head the rate isn't really that bad, but I think you'd be better to 10x the amount but cutting the payout rate by 24. As in 0.01 * 1 instead of 0.001 * 24 = .024, I know many ad places count a unique visit every 24 hours, just a thought it would both _save_ you money AND be a perceived bigger payout.

edit: yeah I see about the ad money just trickling in now, but just a thought for maybe the future.

Thanks for the info. I will take it into consideration.
