....
The problem isn’t that signatures would be annoying or seductive. The problem is that the opportunity to advertise in the signature leads spammers to spew garbage posts that clutter up the forum, making it less useful and less enjoyable.

I second that.
Problem are campaigns requiring users to make given number of posts a week (or in general encouraging them to make more posts). That's the source. Baning or reporting/redmarking users does not help at all (they go and buy another account and all repeats).

Killing bees leads nowhere. What we need is to burn the hive and kill the queen.
Most of the campaign specifically want the post to be at certain board only and avoid violating forum rules to be counted, I think this forum will have significantly less participation if it is stopped, just look at Technical Support Board or Project Development Board very few post everyday I check there, reply also mostly under 10, most developer discuss about issues at github directly and rarely post anything here. except for wallet and website developer sometime do discuss things here.

Simply close Alternate Cryptocurrencies will stop most of this

No doubt such actions (ban signatures and alts) would drasticaly reduce the activity. But that's the point. Quality simply can't go hand in hand with quantity.

Personaly would be much happier to see less active forum full of knowledge and quality informative posts than some ultra active forum full of crap.
On the other hand I fully understand that's not what admin would like to have so he's trying to find more suitable solution to raise quality not affecting the traffic (must say introduction of the merit system impressed me and it seems to be working well given all the complains I saw so far).

What a stupid thing to say. If there were no bees, ther would be virualy no food in the world. Honey is one of nature's great health foods as well.

We need more bees here, and fewer of the incompetents spraying verbal pesticides on them.

Apparently misunderstood the meaning. Just replace word bees with wasp or hornet ...  and you'll get it.

304  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: User status disable on: March 01, 2018, 06:12:24 PM
Status or stats?   Grin

If you are talking about user stats then don't worry. It was disabled for all of us.
I think the reason was that feature made the forum running slow (some extra load on server or what).
305  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ETC stolen bybsupport team from Jaxx wallet REWARD TO BE GIVEN on: March 01, 2018, 12:31:20 PM
Unfortunately there's not much you can do.

Tracking crypto is complicated. Thief could have used some mixing service making it untraceable.
If you would be lucky and track it down to exchange then you would also need that exchange to cooperate and my guess they will cooperate only with authorities. In addition only those exchanges that are KYC/AML obligated (fiat exchanges) ... so if thief turned them to another crypto then chances to succeed are very, very low.

I think this should be reported to jaxx management as they are the only one who (maybe) can find the person which was dealing with your friend and try to push on him. But I think this is impossible to happen.

Sorry for your friends loss.

Hi and thanks for the reply !

We cannot get to Jaxx management, they don't have contact details other than the usual support address. We tried reaching one on LinkedIn without response...

I see they have twitter and reddit as well. You can try shout out there. But if you don't have some indisputable proofs I guess this all will be absolutely useless.

You need to unerstand this was a huge error on your side and it's solely up to them to decide whether try to help you or not. So don't be offensive.
Nevertheless theft is theft and should be punished even if you are the one who did something wrong.

BTW USD 2k reward for tracking is not negligible amount. Someone actually may be interested but you should mention it somewhere else than in beginner section. Perhaps services section or similar ( you know, some place where more experienced users stay ).

307  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How real is satoshidice on: March 01, 2018, 10:48:39 AM
Site is real. It was one of the first BTC gambling sites with lot of satisfied users but since was sold there are some accusations about shady practices.

IMO new owner does not bother improving and developing it further (examples: not working level system, no api development though was promised to be reworked ...)
This actually made me feel uncomfortable, led me to withdraw my BTC and avoid them.

I haven't tried for long time so things might changed.

EDIT: I realized now it's completely different game. I was talking about the original satoshidice.com ( which is now known as megadice ).
Sorry for misleading info.

308  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BANKS AND CRYPTO on: March 01, 2018, 03:14:54 AM
I second this one:

...
Think about this logically. Why would a bank accept crypto when decentralization goes against everything they stand for.
...

this one:

...
I'd say this could even be the first motive. Banks are essentially mediators and middlemen, and they charge for their services. Crypto doesn't need such entities, and could accomplish the same work, for the most part.
...

and will add:
Bank business is built on charging commissions from money that does not really exists (are artificially created just because there is demand for them).
And such thing is impossible with BTC.
309  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: █ dodice.io — brand new dice game █ Risk and earn some BTC ✔ Free rolls on: March 01, 2018, 03:01:36 AM
Nice to see another gamble site. I like the simple design and swift game.
Quite interesting is the concept of taking profits only from users wins ( I've never seen such approach before. Hope you think this out properly).

On the other hand what sounds weird to me is: "We don't take any comission from your losses"   ... why would you need to take any commission while you actually take entire bet?
Sounds like populistic empty phrase (perhaps I didn't understand what you mean).
BTW typo in faq section: commission

Can see it's early development stage and have some tips .
1. I don't find reliable that you are offering no max limit bet after "1 BTC and made more than 100 bets". This is simply unsustainable and very easily can turn you insolvent.
2. As a new site you need to earn trust (I'm sure you're well aware of that) and one of the very basic steps is to provide proof you hold enough funds to pay the winners out of your pocket ( not from deposits/losts of other players ).
3. 2fa is a must for this kind of web

As of your question.
I think you should introduce the more complex version (maybe as separate page to keep simplicity of this one) because that way you'll attract much more players.
Two reasons came up my mind.
- majority of gamblers rather tinker with winning chance than adjusting the bet amount to reach their intended wins.
- more ways how to affect the game gives user better experience (enjoy)
(just my opinions)

Wish you good luck.
310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining private coin with rented cloud rigs and possible mitigations on: February 28, 2018, 11:34:00 PM
From another POV this smells like centralization ... original idea behind cryptocurrency is that it should be free competition for everybody able to participate and with fixed conditions (not changeable whenever originator wants).
True, but I'm thinking of a scenario when the network is at it's first growing steps and all of a sudden a malicious group starts mining with, let's say 90% of all hashing power.

The only short-term defense I could think of is renting hashing power, to reestablish some fairness, where noone mines with >51% of hashing power. The downside is rentals cost real money. I was wondering if there were any other ideas to counteract such a move.

My guess is all devs face similar worries and had there been some simple and working solution it would have been already used by many coins.

I've seen some coins made first few hundred thousand blocks with very small reward. The reason behind could be to discourage huge mining farms while the word about new coin  spreads around, hopefully delivering enough miners with sufficient hashrate to prevent this happen.

But IMO it's more responsibility of miners rather than devs to prevent this happen. Just offer them enough pools to choose from and responsible miners (those who knows the threats of 51% attack) should keep the balance.
Though I was pretty disapointed with e.g. SIA network state after bitmain unleashed those A3 beasts ... people obviously didn't care of network at all, everybody was joining same pool no mater what.

312  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Blockchain Technology? on: February 27, 2018, 09:06:20 PM
From a cruising altitude, a blockchain might not look that different from things you're familiar with, say Wikipedia.

With a blockchain, many people can write entries into a record of information, and a community of users can control how the record of information is amended and updated. Likewise, Wikipedia entries are not the product of a single publisher. No one person controls the information.

Descending to ground level, however, the differences that make blockchain technology unique become more clear. While both run on distributed networks (the internet), Wikipedia is built into the World Wide Web (WWW) using a client-server network model.

A user (client) with permissions associated with its account is able to change Wikipedia entries stored on a centralized server.

Whenever a user accesses the Wikipedia page, they will get the updated version of the 'master copy' of the Wikipedia entry. Control of the database remains with Wikipedia administrators allowing for access and permissions to be maintained by a central authority.

Wikipedia's digital backbone is similar to the highly protected and centralized databases that governments or banks or insurance companies keep today. Control of centralized databases rests with their owners, including the management of updates, access and protecting against cyber-threats.

The distributed database created by blockchain technology has a fundamentally different digital backbone. This is also the most distinct and important feature of blockchain technology.

Wikipedia's 'master copy' is edited on a server and all users see the new version. In the case of a blockchain, every node in the network is coming to the same conclusion, each updating the record independently, with the most popular record becoming the de-facto official record in lieu of there being a master copy.

Transactions are broadcast, and every node is creating their own updated version of events.

It is this difference that makes blockchain technology so useful - It represents an innovation in information registration and distribution that eliminates the need for a trusted party to facilitate digital relationships.

Yet, blockchain technology, for all its merits, is not a new technology.

Rather, it is a combination of proven technologies applied in a new way. It was the particular orchestration of three technologies (the Internet, private key cryptography and a protocol governing incentivization) that made bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto's idea so useful.

The result is a system for digital interactions that does not need a trusted third party. The work of securing digital relationships is implicit -- supplied by the elegant, simple, yet robust network architecture of blockchain technology itself.

Defining digital trust
Trust is a risk judgement between different parties, and in the digital world, determining trust often boils down to proving identity (authentication) and proving permissions (authorization).

Put more simply, we want to know, 'Are you who you say you are?' and 'Should you be able to do what you are trying to do?'

In the case of blockchain technology, private key cryptography provides a powerful ownership tool that fulfills authentication requirements. Possession of a private key is ownership. It also spares a person from having to share more personal information than they would need to for an exchange, leaving them exposed to hackers.

Authentication is not enough. Authorization - having enough money, broadcasting the correct transaction type, etc - needs a distributed, peer-to-peer network as a starting point. A distributed network reduces the risk of centralized corruption or failure.

This distributed network must also be committed to the transaction network's recordkeeping and security. Authorizing transactions is a result of the entire network applying the rules upon which it was designed (the blockchain's protocol).

Authentication and authorization supplied in this way allow for interactions in the digital world without relying on (expensive) trust. Today, entrepreneurs in industries around the world have woken up to the implications of this development - unimagined, new and powerful digital relationshionships are possible. Blockchain technology is often described as the backbone for a transaction layer for the Internet, the foundation of the Internet of Value.

In fact, the idea that cryptographic keys and shared ledgers can incentivize users to secure and formalize digital relationships has imaginations running wild. Everyone from governments to IT firms to banks is seeking to build this transaction layer.

Authentication and authorization, vital to digital transactions, are established as a result of the configuration of blockchain technology.

The idea can be applied to any need for a trustworthy system of record.

You just copy paste article from coindesk  Cheesy  https://www.coindesk.com/information/what-is-blockchain-technology/
That's pretty low try to get some merit buddy.

314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining private coin with rented cloud rigs and possible mitigations on: February 27, 2018, 02:47:04 PM
Mine a different coin. Use one of the more established coins and not all the random shitcoins that permeate the space these days.
The initial hypotesis is: it's my shitcoin. How do I defend it?

I think the only what you can do is initiate a fork and change algo (and abandon the original chain). But same thing can repeat so there's actually nothing useful you can do.
From another POV this smells like centralization ... original idea behind cryptocurrency is that it should be free competition for everybody able to participate and with fixed conditions (not changeable whenever originator wants).

I think it is possible. Not sure about nicehash but you could rent mining power at miningrentals. I assume you would need to create pool and point it there (as I don't know how would you set up solomining).
318  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is a scam?! on: February 25, 2018, 09:03:15 PM
It's not.
Bitcoin is transparent from the very beginning. Was announced when it starts, how it works, how we can get them, how much of them going to be etc. ... and everybody had same opportunity to get in.

I believe the scam accusation is reaction to all those glorious claims "BTC price going to be XXXXXX USD in few years" and similar  ... which in reality is just pure speculations (or wish) and people who believed it and bought BTC few weeks ago (when price was higher than now) feels like they have been scammed.

IMO the main problem is they see it as investment and chance to make huge profits ( unfortunately these times are gone and that the early adopters were lucky and become rich does not mean it's going to continue  ... but lot of people do not think this way ). Thats not how it should be.

Consider it as something new, revolutionary  and as such we definitely should not put in all we have.

then I check my momery card OMG card alredy format.
I had many important photo in my mobile.
guys plz tell me any way
how can I restore my mobile photo.
thanks

For start this is off topic, move it to proper section (use bottom left link) here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=9.0

I guess there is no way to recover data if you did not make regular backups ( this is what cloud storages are used for  ... e.g google drive).
Or maybe you can try some recovering tool. If formated space was not overwriten by new data there is chance to recover them ( at least in case of regular HDD ... not sure about SD card) .. try to search for some.
