81  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Electric Vehicles and Access to Free 480/200amp & AC 240v/40 amp chargers on: February 24, 2015, 10:36:36 AM
But OP's gotta an interesting idea, use generated electricity to generate power to run miners while you drive.

Well he was talking about exploiting the free electricity provided with the sale of the vehicle to mine with.  At best the idea is morally wrong in the worst case it's illegal.

Lol and here I am thinking he would like to run his miner within his vehicle. Which is absolutely possible. A car can generate up to 170A while running depending on the alternator and if the car has other mechanics to generate electricity(braking etc). Run a wireless adapter in the car, connect your miners in the boot and you've got your self a heater and free mining for the 5hr drive ahead!

I don't appreciate the huge number of miners claiming they have access to free power when its really just stolen electricity. Power can never be free.

Looks like there was a good run today! Unfortunate my miners are still off but definitely not worth leaving them on waiting for 5 blocks in a day. We might crack 50,000,000,000 on the next difficulty. Definitely a huge turn off.

$2.45 for 24hrs of mining. I really don't understand how people are still mining and difficulty rising! There must be a few power thieves out there. There are not many ways you can get free power.
84  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Covert Mining in "Ant Hole" on: February 22, 2015, 11:54:17 PM
Haha, sounds alike a bit of effort. A friend of mine snuck a miner in the roof at his uni for about a day lol.

Nuclear power is probably the way of the future. I don't know why Australia isn't investing much research into this, considering we are sitting on one of the biggest uranium deposits.

But OP's gotta an interesting idea, use generated electricity to generate power to run miners while you drive.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ISIS to create own coin. How can we convince to use Bitcoin? on: February 22, 2015, 11:42:34 PM

Quote
ISIS is planning to mint its own currency in gold, silver and copper, the group said Thursday.
Its aim is to stay away from the "tyrant's financial system," ISIS said in a statement. It said it would issue another statement to explain the new currency's exchange rate, and where it can be found.

Sounds like they are printing their own kind of FIAT. More scamcoin. I think this is a great opportunity to show them Bitcoin and get some users from the Middle East. The anonymity and low fees are sure to be a turn on. How can we spread the word and help Bitcoin go TO THE MOON!?

Yeah lets ruin the reputation of Bitcoin even more by making some scum bags aware of it and use it to become untraceable and fun killing everyone who doesn't support them.

Holy shit the mentality of some people. Are you really that desperate for Bitcoin to gain attention?

There are 7 billion people in the world, potentially 1 million who live with or are part of this IS shit. Why do you so desperately want their support. How many people will support their currency?
87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin insurance ever be a reality? on: February 22, 2015, 11:39:10 PM
Well if its being done, it should be done widely. This would help give peace of mind to potential new users. It would also hopefully deter would-be in house "hackers" since insurance companies are very likely to carry out their own investigations.
88  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is your trading strategy? on: February 22, 2015, 11:34:56 PM
Buy low on a marketplace, then sell it higher on another marketplace. Sometime it will not profitable, due to trade fee and the fee when send/withdraw from the first marketplace to the second marketplace.

This is typical strategy, how do you know when low is low enough and how can you be positive there will be a high? There is a reason people in shares lose money and its considered risky business.
89  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 22, 2015, 11:33:02 PM
Always baffles me how the pool can go so long without a block then two are struck down almost consecutively.
90  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is your trading strategy? on: February 22, 2015, 11:37:17 AM
I allways want to have my trading funds in bitcoin, so i only sell when im really sure the price is overhyped,
still didnt sell since last rebuy, and probably wont sell under 290 in following month. Maybe im bagholding, but it sure is better to baghold than to miss the boat,
and that will happen , sooner or later.
honsetly , i think this is gonna go to 1k again , so i'd reccomend holding

Do you remember why bitcoin hit 1k? I don't think the same situation could be recreated.

28hr block so far. That is great.

If someone has the time, they should go through the list of IP's which found blocks during >10PH on the blockchain and then compare then to IP's found when the pool was operating under 9ph. Look at the performance difference between Slush and Eligius for the tiny difference in power. Less that 1% more power against the network but 80% more blocks.
92  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 19, 2015, 11:02:40 PM
I think I found my limit. I have an s5 running 337.5 with only 4 hw for 24hr period. It's hashing at 1.1Th/s but sometimes it dips to just under 1Th/s. Why is that? Is it due to power irregularity? Also, at these settings to he temps are 66 and 68. I know that is high for the miner but I'm not getting hw errors. So I think this is stable. But the temps. I keep reading that the miner needs to be below 60. Is that due to instability and hardware errors. I once thought heat was related to hardware errors but with this discovery it is inconclusive. So, all you really knowledgeable people out there, is is safe to rum at or below 68c? I have a push pull fan system and have replaced the stock fan. It's not quiet, in fact, I have to make another fan changeout before the week is over. This fan setup is too loud for the fam.

When I make the can switch I'm not going to be at 1.1Th/s but I would like to be close. I'll be watching the temps and if I'm stable and I can run the miner in the 60's then I could get a few more hashed out of it.

What is the ambient temp? Usually target temps/manufacturer ratings are provided at ambient temps if 18 to 20c. My S3 miner is designed to run at 30 odd degrees. Thanks to summer, it runs at around 47.
93  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Turning off miners on: February 19, 2015, 11:15:02 AM
Well, I am pretty sure I have a great scenario for Bitcoin mining since I don't pay for electric. All of my bills are included in a one month price, which is fairly cheap, as well... I have a Rockminer R-Box (older model) that mines at 30-34Gh/s overclocked a little.

Cheap power and that is all you run? If my power was flat rate, one fee every quarter, I would be smashing it. At this point in time, if you bought say 3 S5 miners and ran them I still think you could make a couple BTC and sell the miners without a loss. You currently cannot buy S5 miners from Bitmain but you can buy them second hand for $100 more. Pretty confident there are large sales of Antminers straight from Bitmain for people to resell at a higher price once Bitmain is out.
94  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 19, 2015, 11:08:51 AM
Have my two S5 up and running with overclocking stable so far. Both are connected to a CX750M PSU each.
Optimal overclocking settings (Frequency) has to be determined for each unit seperatly with try and error.

I have now one running at Freq 400 resulting in 1.3TH, the other one runs at Freq 393.75 resulting in 1.26TH.

What I figured out is, that you should look out for the HW error rate. As long as it's in the 0.0xxx% range, it's ok. As soon as the HW error rate reaches 0.xxx or higher, the Hash rate drops.
So in my case, when I set the Freq to 400 on my second S5, the Hash rate drops from 1.26 to 1.23 while the HW error rate climbs from e.g. 0.0376 to 0.2135.
And it gets worse the higher I set the Freq.
Of course you have to watch temperatures, which is in my case not a problem, running cool at 45/48 with Fan at 3240 rpm in ambient temp of 16C (loud yes, but in the basement so I don't care).

So my advice for overclocking: I would start with a Freq of 375, let it run for about an hour and monitor temp, hash rate and HW errors. If all is fine, go one step higher etc. until you see a drop in the hash rate along with the above explained HW error rate (or your temp goes through the roof).

Hope this helps.

Do you monitor power consumption? What differences have you noticed? Would just like to see if overclocking is consistent across the board between units or if each unit operates at a great difference.
95  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 18, 2015, 11:18:50 AM
Power wise it looks like the S5 is better suited for my needs. Spondoolies are great but suck power like crazy.

I know it's 1.1TH vs 1.7TH but the S5 uses half the power. So surely that must be more profitable.

The pool is still over 10PH. The VIP accounts must be greedy today.

VIP accounts?
96  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 41 minutes for a new block, difficulty wayyy too hard on: February 18, 2015, 03:03:21 AM
Well in the last 30 minutes, 6 blocks were found. This is MUCH faster than the network desires. What will happen? Well luck will balance out or we see another spike in the difficulty. Its odd that the difficulty is higher than what it was when btc was worth more only a couple months back. Not much has changed in the way of hardware either.
97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Transaction fees need to be $10+ in order for Bitcoin to survive" on: February 18, 2015, 03:01:22 AM
If I had to pay $10 per bitcoin transaction just to feed some fat chums wallet because he spent all his money on mining rigs, I'll ditch the network. Stupid fat greedy man.

Use your computer to do a ping or route test to the Slush IP. You should receive a reply when you ping stratum.bitcoin.cz

boys wanted to know if I adjourned, I lose my bitcoin address?

There is absolutely no reason you would.
100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, How Long Will It Last? on: February 17, 2015, 04:05:43 AM
Bitcoin lasts technically till at least 1 valid copy of the blockchain exists, once thats gone... its goodbye to Bitcoin forever.
Technically yes. But Bitcoin is strong only as long as people will be willing to use it. If they one day find another way is more efficient - bitcoin will be done for. It only exist because it is worth something for people.
I know that, all I did was just answer OP's question on a very technical level =)
Your reply really apply's more so to it actually being worth something and having a market price.
But, alas, the protocol & network exist as long as 2 people participate in it, which would be the closest to its 'bitter end'.

There are alts which are worth TINY amounts, almost nothing but still supported because people like the concept behind it or the potential for growth. I still believe bitcoin will exist until the internet doesn't.
