Statement on disabled accounts

We would like to address recent reports regarding Bittrex account suspensions.

We occasionally conduct compliance reviews and are working vigilantly to protect our service and our users from harm. As part of a compliance review, we have temporarily suspended certain accounts pending the completion of the review. The total number of suspended, closed, or banned accounts is very limited: less than 0.1% of the total accounts on Bittrex.  More than 99.9% of Bittrex accounts are unaffected.

Any reports that Bittrex miscalculated or misapplied its exchange fees, that there is a security problem with the exchange, that Bittrex lost any coins stored on users’ behalf, or that Bittrex is banning people trying to access Slack to discuss the status of their accounts are incorrect.  We are committed to making Bittrex a strong, safe, and compliant exchange where people can securely participate in the digital currency economy.  We ask for patience from our highly valued customers.  As for us, we plan to “keep calm, and carry on.”

the same happened with bitstamp. just hold on for a moment.

if you use a mixer all of your coins will look tainted...
a mixer doesnt wash them: it just distributes the taint more equally

i dont think there is an alternative to monero of you want to be anon (transactions and balances are anon btw)

what is so special with monero? Smiley
6  Economy / Economics / Re: Could negative interest rates in the US boost Bitcoin? on: February 18, 2015, 01:03:08 PM
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/banks-in-europe-are-charging-to-hold-deposits--could-it-happen-here-195532627.html

YES!

The linked article talks about how a bank in Denmark is charging its customers for the privilege of holding their savings, negative interest rates. The bank doesn't pay you for your savings on deposit but you pay the bank to hold your savings secure because the market alternatives are so risky. The article speculates (very broadly) that it could happen in the US...it likely won't, but if it did guess what would provide a good alternative to traditional savings?

You guessed it...the almighty B-T-C...what an interesting turn for bitcoin that would be.

Can't this trigger a run on the banks?  Why pay them to store my money when I can just hide it under my mattress?

in this scenario your money just sits there. no way of using that money to earn.

a huge movement is not necessarily bad, it can also be either neutral or good.

this is just a spreading of FUD.

Impose capital controls in Greece or repeat the mistake of Cyprus

Another crisis, another insidious bout of capital flight. In Greece today, as in Cyprus three years ago, depositors are withdrawing bundles of euro notes to be spirited out of the country. Most of all, investors are rushing to make electronic transfers to banks elsewhere in the eurozone. In December 2014 alone, €7.6bn were sent abroad, equivalent to about 4 per cent of Greece’s economic output.

In 2012, Cyprus was in a similar bind. Wealthy Cypriots (and foreigners who had deposits there) tried to whisk their funds to safer places, draining liquidity from the island’s banks and threatening them with insolvency.

The Cypriot central bank kept the system afloat by lending out €11bn of newly created money under a protocol known as Emergency Liquidity Assistance. These funds were in effect borrowed from other eurozone central banks, which put euros into the new accounts outside Cyprus that were being set up by fleeing investors.

mr sinn is a hardcore neoliberal idiot.

I agree.  Anyone in Greece right now should be using this time period to get their money out of Greece before there are currency controls and a huge devaluation.

and then what?
