Also using a different BTC address for each transaction isn't a bad idea, it makes it easier to make sure that the person actually paid you and allows for more anonymity.  

On an unrelated note, I think that it would be a good idea if the forum flagged users that repeatedly use an IP address solely associated with a scammer on this forum.

I also found Dark Exchange.  Which is the only example of an existing P2P exchange.  I don't know if it is still in use, though it might have been moved to the tor network or i2p.

I like the idea of a decentralized exchange, but as some other have mentioned in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=45751.0) it is unlikely for such a system to gain wide acceptance with bitcoin being easy to obtain through "legal" centralized exchanges.

There are a bunch of ways to acquire BTC without going through any official exchanges.  This forum, and BitCoin-OTC are some examples of many.

I think that the main reason centralized exchanges are popular is that they are, for the unexperienced user, loads safer than any other form of obtaining BTC.  Sure you could set up a decentralized exchange, and adding an Escrow feature to it would make it more secure than most of the systems already in place.  However you would not be able to eliminate scamers entirely.

Though the main reason is that there has not been a need for anything like this yet.

I'm all for bitcoin gaining popularity, but what happens when the established institutions start to take notice?  They're probably going to start a PR campaign against bitcoin, most likely overstating how easy it is for a user to lose their wallet.  Heavily implying that your bitcoins could be stolen by some malicious hacker at any time, with no possible chance for a refund.  Which, is a bit of bold faced lie.

Also the last time bitcoin got attention, there was a crash in the worth of bitcoin.

Just curious to see what people think will happen because of an company such as Bloomberg publishing a story like this.

I have had a similar experience with Jakers.  I am still a bit hesitant to call him a scammer, as from what I have read he takes an insanely long time to complete a transaction.

So I have a $25 dollar best buy gift card, that I got for christmas, that I am not going to use.  It is too small to make any useful purchase.  Anyways...
