21  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcart: Shop with Bitcoin and Get 20% Off on: August 06, 2015, 08:46:32 AM
I have tried Bitcart twice now. I was a little skeptical the first time, sure, but I crossed my fingers, sent the funds, and everything has since worked out fine - great, even. This is a pretty awesome service. It's not like Purse where you have to submit an order and wait for a few days hoping that someone will pick it up, or choose the instant discount option for a mere 5%. Bitcart tells you the discount that you will get immediately (in my case it was 17% for my first order, 20% for my second (the site clarifies that it is up to 20% (it depends on the merchant)) and if you agree you send over the coins.

Delivery was super fast(!) one time, quite reasonable (less than a day) the other, and the communication through email rather than onsite, I thought, was a nice feature. Purse does this too, I guess, and has always been very communicative and quick to jump in for support, but I guess the difference here is that you don't need it. There is no (potentially fickle) middle man whom you are not sure if you can trust but whom you are yet trying to please for positive reviews, which can sometimes be more annoying/worrisome than wondering whether or not and how quickly you'll receive your order. Bitcart's a direct deal - simple, easy, done. I am thoroughly impressed.

*In reference to one of the above posts, I know this may sound a little shill-like, being brand new. Nonetheless, I wanted, especially after reading the thread that meono linked to, to jump in here and give my two cents. For whatever reason, I feel the need to offer a little defense. If you read the thread, it's pretty obvious who comes out on top. Moneypaks2btc got his money back from localbitcoins after an honest mix-up, yet he continues to slander and rage about it, himself mixing up personal information and identities with the services offered by a separate, professional entity. Seems there's an apple like this in every forum. Don't let it spoil the barrel for you.

Hey Davy, thanks for the nice review! I'm glad you like the service and the communication through email feature, better than Purse Wink

We will be adding more features today including escrow, easy cancellation on the website (even after you've sent the btc) and live tracking of your bitcoins on the blockchain.

This only works for the US amazon, or international sites as well?

Mostly we stock US sites and occasionally we have amazon.co.uk or .de

This could come in handy sometimes!
Simple and easy Wink I'm definitely subscribing to your newsletter.

Thanks for subscribing, you'll get special discounts with your subscription. Coming soon.

So how does it work?  Where does the 20% come from?  Is is like purse.io where the discount is from the people buying bitcoins?

Yes it's similar to Purse in this way.

We are also launching a new website in the next day or two.

24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you spending your Bitcoin? on: August 05, 2015, 07:26:40 AM
as for what companies do.. such as those that are linked through bitpay.. those conversions do not affect the bitcoin price on the many public exchanges. simply because bitpay do private swaps and funds never touch the public exchanges, thus dont affect public prices

I have a small rule for Bitcoin spending... Save 80% and spend 20% .... If we want Bitcoin to grow as a currency, we have to allow for some of it to go back into the system. How do people use a currency

That's a good rule.

If you ever want to spend bitcoin on Amazon and save 20% then check out my website bitcart.io thanks Smiley

Great documentary ... will see and will send my opinion and feedback

Worthwhile documentary. They have some good shots. It's a shame that they're charging for it particularly as a lot of the footage was donated to them by various people on youtube. So it's disappointing that in turn they charge and they could've instead opted for their own youtube channel for revenue.

Well worth a watch and consider donating for sure Smiley

This is already being developed by central banks:

Creva coin, an electronic money developed by teams with experiences in developing bit coins, has an algorithm as bit coins d.

It’s fully developed now and is being normally sent and received among members in Korea.

Creva coin, as bit coins are circulated to some degree, is being normally used among our members in Korea like at Creva Shopping Mall where bit coins can be used so that it may function as an e-money and we will gradually expand its usage.

Cool. What's adoption been like with this coin?
29  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Selling Bitcoin in the UK high street? on: July 27, 2015, 05:05:05 PM
There was one in London for a while. I'm not sure if it's still there.

http://www.coindesk.com/london-first-bitcoin-voucher-shop/

It was also possible via zipzap over the counter in thousands of shops but that seems to have gone rather quiet too.

I think your main stumbling block will be lack of demand rather than The Man.

It's a lot easier to achieve than in the US at least. You're likely to run into banking problems almost instantly though. No banks want to play.

I'm surprised there's been no updates about ZipZap's promise to bring cash to btc services to 35 countries... Very silent indeed.

33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Société Générale is Hiring Bitcoin IT Developer on: July 25, 2015, 05:19:47 PM
https://careers.societegenerale.com/job-offers/IT-Prototyping-Developer-and-hands-on-investigation-on-Blockchains---Crypto-Currencies-M-F---VIE-London-RQ00112083-fr

http://www.coindesk.com/french-megabank-societe-generale-seeks-cryptocurrency-expert/

One of France's biggest banks is looking to hire a developer with a focus on bitcoin.

Société Générale (SocGen) posted a job listing on 2nd July for an "IT developer on bitcoin, blockchains and cryptocurrencies". SocGen is the third-largest French bank in terms of assets, reporting $1.3tn in assets in 2014.

The 12-month contract, according to the post, would entail research and development involving cryptocurrencies and the blockchain. Though no specifics were outlined, the post suggests that the bank is looking to develop in-house software, citing "prototype programming".

The listed responsibilities of the position include:

Developing proof-of-concept in any language/protocols used in cryptocurrency protocols and blockchains 1.0-3.0
Programming in C#/C++/Python/Other against bitcoin, altcoin, blockchain different altchain APIs
Running statistics against blockchains and engineering ways to gather quantitative information on what’s really happening in the cryptocurrency world.
The position also calls for the organization of internal reports, staff presentations and training programs. The VIE – a kind of international volunteer or internship role – will be tasked with "engaging with the FinTech community and gathering information on the crypto-currency sector in London and elsewhere."
34  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a national currency? on: July 25, 2015, 03:57:44 PM
Also Bitcoin can't support the number of transactions per second needed for a national currency.

Why not?
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL - Which Bitcoin will become the first national currency? on: July 25, 2015, 03:56:32 PM
Describe the difference between the two.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What kind of Alt would be best for a domestic economy? on: July 25, 2015, 12:36:24 PM
I would like to see a cryptocurrency with an integrated voting system whereby the community had full ruling power.

There would be an upvote system (like reddit) and the only way to make a change would be to bump the highest upvote. Then the users would become like an AI or social brain, organically steering the currency throughout its evolution.

Cool. What kind of things would people vote on?
37  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a national currency? on: July 25, 2015, 12:33:26 PM
Is is realistic to expect Argentina, Venezuela, or similar to move in this direction? Also could we see a sovereign officially adopt bitcoin when they're considering reissuing a new currency, after failure?

Realistically this is the type of governments that could potentially adopt it. Whether or not they are innovative enough to do it is the question.
