For now in facebook and twitter have too much newbie, so I suggest you try to increase your friends and followers. Or if you have good skill with making videos, writing content or translation, have some campaign for you. The reward is not bad.

64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Claiming Airdrop coins using Ethereum on: April 24, 2018, 10:17:33 AM
Hi All,

I have my JSON file corresponding to ETH wallet however I have not opened this wallet for more than 2 years now. I wanted to know the following:

1. The best possible wallet to use to access the ETH coins from the JSON file? Is MyEtherWallet still a good choice? Per my understanding, they would need my private key to be able to access the coins. So, does it mean MyEtherWallet will store my private key?

2. There have been several hard forks in the past 2 years related to ETH and ETC. Can I still claim those coins using MyEtherWallet?

3. How can I access those airdrop coins? I understand that several blockchain projects have decided to airdrop coins to ETH holders. So, how can I get access to them?

Thanks.

66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How to get Bitcoin Gold for Bitcoin Core Wallet Users? on: November 24, 2017, 09:52:16 AM
Hi,

I use Bitcoin Core Wallet. I have my BTC stored in that wallet and I own the private keys as well. How can I get the corresponding Bitcoin Gold now?

Per my understanding, at present, only few hardware wallets like Ledger, Trezor and few software wallets like freewallet have this support. However, I think the coins were supposed to be stored in these wallets at the time of the Bitcoin hardfork to get the corresponding BTG coins.

Is there any option available for Bitcoin Core Wallet users to get the BTG?

Thanks.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Did you ever convince or encourage someone to invest in Bitcoin? on: November 01, 2017, 04:00:41 PM
Bitcoin has been awesome and will always be awesome. We, who have been involved in Bitcoin since the very early days understand this very well. However, for the laymen, for the people who don't really understand the technical aspects of Bitcoin or those who only watch the mainstream media are skeptic about Bitcoin. Since, all they hear in the News is how Bitcoin can be used for illegal activities and how it offers complete anonymity (common misconception) to people to do what they need on Internet.

Have you ever convinced or encouraged anyone to invest in Bitcoin and did you have success? Of course, since we know that we are giving a good advice, so we would usually advice our own family members or friends about this.

In the past few months, I encouraged some of my friends to invest in Bitcoin. They had a lot of questions about it from technical perspective and I helped them understand. They invested in Bitcoin and are very happy with the returns. And now this information propagates and more people will get involved in Bitcoin.

In my humble opinion, as a Bitcoin enthusiast, we can help understand people the positive aspects of Bitcoin. The price of Bitcoin is still in the very initial stages and those of us who really understand what Bitcoin offers, know that Bitcoin Price is only 1/10th of what it's worth right now.

What are the most common responses you get from laymen about investing in Bitcoin?

Some popular ones I receive are:

1. "Oh, it's already too expensive, I cannot afford to buy it."
2. "The governments don't regulate it, why should I invest in it?"
3. "It's an illegal currency and only cyber criminals use it."
4. "What backs up Bitcoin? For example US Dollar is backed by Trust (all time favorite response Cheesy), but what backs up Bitcoin?"
5. "The market is way too volatile to invest."
6. "You can't really use Bitcoin as a currency."
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Mining Profitability on: October 31, 2017, 11:32:42 AM
The site, fork.lol allows us to see the Bitcoin Mining Profitability based on fees, exchange price and mining difficulty and compare it with Bitcoin Cash mining profitability.

I wanted to know how exactly is this value calculated? What are the implications of it on the price of the coin?

So, if BCH is more profitable to mine then the overall Network Hash Rate in BCH will increase as more miners would switch from BTC to BCH mining. And with the increase in Network Hash rate, this would result in increasing the mining difficulty.

I want to understand how we can relate the Mining Profitability of BTC and BCH to the price of the coin.

Thanks.

70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Best wallet for Ethereum on: October 15, 2017, 06:21:36 AM
Hi All,

I setup my Ethereum wallet long ago, sometime in early 2016 if I remember correct. I saved my wallet in a safe place and since then I haven't used it.

Now, Ethereum has undergone several developments, 1 hard fork (Ethereum Classic) and so on. I would like to know which wallet should I use? Are the latest versions of the wallet compatible with previous versions? Can I import my old wallet file into a new one? I think the format of the wallet was in JSON before. Please let me know. Thanks.

71  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-05]Russia is not interested in Bitcoin!! on: September 06, 2017, 08:46:52 AM
So, by that logic, Russian government sites should stop using HTTPS protocol as well and they should not use SSL certificates either. Because they are based on public key cryptography which is backed by algorithms such as RSA/SHA256 and so on. None of these cryptographic algorithms were designed by Russians.

This view presented by the Russian government is not something that is supported by Russian mathematicians or hackers themselves. It's just politics.
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Future of Bitcoin Cash? on: August 29, 2017, 10:00:05 AM
So, looks like we all agree that BCH is here to stay? What about price predictions? Is it overvalued at present?
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Future of Bitcoin Cash? on: August 29, 2017, 09:22:02 AM
Hi All,

So, Bitcoin Cash price has fallen down after going as high as 1000 USD. What do you think is the future of Bitcoin Cash?

The Segwit activation in the Bitcoin Network went through successfully. I am not sure about the actual improvements in the Bitcoin Network with respect to Number of Transactions/second or the Transaction Fee after Segwit activation however do you think Bitcoin Cash is here to stay with its 8 MB block size?

Also, there are speculations that Bitcoin Cash might be centralized and most of the mining power is controlled by only few nodes.

And I read that miners are switching back and forth between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash since in some cases the Bitcoin Cash network difficulty is lower and more profitable to mine.

What are some of the major events in the pipeline for Bitcoin Cash?
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reusing Bitcoin Core Blockchain with Bitcoin Cash wallet on: August 28, 2017, 01:35:41 PM
I installed Bitcoin Core and pointed it to that Data Directory. It successfully opened and started synchronizing.

So, I went to debug console and typed in the invalidateblock command you mentioned before.

However, in the debug console I don't see any output or response to this command.

And the Bitcoin Core UI still shows it attempting to perform the synchronization. Did the invalidateblock command work?

76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reusing Bitcoin Core Blockchain with Bitcoin Cash wallet on: August 28, 2017, 12:34:54 PM
I tried this method however I get an error from the Bitcoin ABC client when I attempt to start it.

Error Dialog box states:

"Corrupted Block database detected.

Do you want to rebuild the block database now?"

And there are two options: "OK" and "Abort".

If I select Abort, it exits the application and I don't get the opportunity to enter the invalidateblock command in debug console.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reusing Bitcoin Core Blockchain with Bitcoin Cash wallet on: August 28, 2017, 11:53:19 AM
No I didn't prune it. I don't even know what means Cheesy

So, I'm copying over the complete Data Directory from Bitcoin Core to Bitcoin ABC wallet as I'm writing this post.

Should I enter the invalidateblock command in debug console after I've already pointed Bitcoin ABC to new data directory? Wouldn't Bitcoin ABC client just start syncing as soon as the client starts? Or maybe the invalidateblock command will make the client parse the block chain again?
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reusing Bitcoin Core Blockchain with Bitcoin Cash wallet on: August 28, 2017, 11:31:39 AM
@ranochigo: Thanks. This information is very useful.

Can I copy over the entire Bitcoin data directory from Bitcoin Core to Bitcoin ABC wallet and not just specific files from it? There are a lot of dat files inside the data directory and I'm assuming that they should be valid for Bitcoin ABC wallet as well?
79  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: **Download the blockchain here, updated regularly ** on: August 28, 2017, 06:24:00 AM
@Mad7Scientist: Thanks for your efforts. Is there an equivalent for Bitcoin Cash blockchain as well?

Is it possible to get a copy of the Bitcoin Blockchain prior to Hard Fork. Something like synchronized upto July 2017 only and not after. I'm asking for this because after hard fork on August 1st, the Bitcoin Blockchain is not compatible with Bitcoin Cash Blockchain. However, if we can get the latest snapshot of Blockchain prior to hard fork, then it can be re-used with Bitcoin ABC wallet and only the blocks after hard fork would need to be downloaded.

By the way, let's say you import a blockchain of size 100 GB into Bitcoin Core wallet. How long does it take to reindex the complete thing? How much time would you save as opposed to letting your own Bitcoin Core installation download and sync the blockchain?

Thanks.
80  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / What exactly happens during Blockchain Synchronization? on: August 28, 2017, 06:14:17 AM
Hi All,

I am trying to get back into the technical aspects of Bitcoin. I was quite active several years ago however now I would like to understand the ins and outs of Bitcoin and Blockchain technology much better. Also, trying to refresh my knowledge.

So, when we start the Bitcoin Core client (full node), it tries to download the Blocks. I saw it mentioned in several places that the speed at which you synchronize depends not only on your Internet connection speed but also on your Processor speed. I would like to understand what role does the processor speed play here?

Besides downloading the blocks, is the full node client also performing a Digital Signature verification for each transaction included in that block?

Also, I noticed that the newer blocks in the blockchain take longer time to synchronize than the older blocks. Is it because the newer blocks include more number of transactions and so the full node client needs to perform more number of verification per block?

Is there any way to speed up the process of synchronizing the blockchain? Of course, besides buying the latest and fastest processor Cheesy

Thanks.
