1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did I miss an opportunity? At what point would you say is too high to buy? on: April 08, 2013, 08:34:33 PM
Hi all

I feel like i got into Bitcoin just one month too late. When I first started reading on here 1 BTC=£27. The next time I looked a few days later they were about £42. I knew it was a good investment opportunity but I was/am broke. I've just been watching the price rise and ruing my bad timing. I put a couple of high price items that I'm not using, up for sale at the start of the week, hoping to get btc at £100 once I sold the stuff. I just looked and they are almost 200 usd, £126.3 in our superior currency (haha j/k).

So, I'm thinking I've shit the biscuit as they say. Missed the old boat. Or have I? What if these things are £200 next week?

At what point did/do you think they were too rich for you to buy? I was willing to pay £100 but might just stick to my meager Aztec mining operation now.

Shameless Plug If anyone wants a US Fender P bass or canon L glass pm me Wink

What you are seeing is a bubble. I think the real value is somewhere around $10-$20 a coin.

Bitcoin has some issues to workout before a true $100+ price point can be achieved.

3  Economy / Marketplace / Re: The Armory - Weapon Marketplace on: August 05, 2012, 01:40:09 AM
one thing that bugs me about bitcoin is things like this....

anarchy and liberty are two different things

Liberty is a more general term while anarchy, in its original and more accurate usages ( e.g. it does not really mean some kind of violent chaotic social disorder ),
is more specific, i.e. "freedom from state coercion".

So you no doubt would feel that states/governments have the right to limit the ability of its citizens to purchase weapons?
An anarchist may ask if you truly have something like liberty and freedom if states determine for you what you can and
cannot own... while giving themselves the right to own and use weapons and violence as they pretty much please in the
maintenance of their own power and control.

Having a government keep tabs on who owns what guns helps solve crime? maybe...
16 year olds should not be allowed own a fully automatic guns? maybe...

Its not like it was impossible to buy unregistered guns b4 bitcoin, so i guess this doesn't really make a difference.

but still, common... "drugs, guns, and gambling for anyone and everyone!" is this our new slogan?

Do you want to define the privileged class who gets to defend themselves and enjoy themselves? Or maybe we can just let some special folks do that for us too?

i want peace and love... short of that, i want guns to be sold to responsible people  Roll Eyes

That is way government people should not own guns.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Thiel on Bitcoin on: February 20, 2012, 03:58:04 PM
This weekend I was at the International Students for Liberty conference where Peter Thiel gave the opening keynote. I asked him about PayPal's crypto-anarchist roots and the future of Bitcoin and currencies that might follow (in retrospect, I should have specified Bitcoin, because he was a bit vague with his response), and he seemed somewhat fond of the idea, hinted that some sort of cyber-currency future is inevitable, but said that Bitcoin isn't likely to have the network effects necessary to take off, and said that gold-backed currencies already have a great deal of support, and would serve as a better fit for a competing currency. He said that he would have more to say on the topic. Someone I talked to who attended a private social with Thiel mentioned there was an impression that Thiel hadn't done his homework when further questioned on the topic.

I don't have his exact response, but I know the event was taped, and suspect that videos will be uploaded by Students for Liberty after editing.

I'm SFL Alumni and really wanted to attend that conference and hear Peter talk . What college are you from?

5  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ad Space Still Available For First Issue of Bitcoin Magazine on: February 03, 2012, 12:14:30 PM
We are days away from printing the very first issue of Bitcoin Magazine and I would like to draw attention to the fact we still have some ad space available. Our first issue is anticipated to have a minimum of 2000 printed copies and many additional digital copies. This magazine has unparallelled niche market penetration and there is no better way to inform members of the Bitcoin community about your business. Many of our buyers (including myself) consider this to be a highly collectable issue so your ad will be forever immortalized in full color print.

Inside and back covers are still available for purchase and they will be the first and last thing readers see when they open the magazine. The centerfold is already sold so you should act quickly before the covers are also taken. The deadline for ad submission and payment is this Saturday, February 4. Do not wait or you will miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity. Ads should be submitted in no less than 300DPI quality and based on a magazine size of 8.5 x 11.

Pricing and some of the ads that are going to be in the magazine can be found at http://bittalk.tv/?page_id=280.

Contact Freetalklive.com , Freekenee.com  , Freestateproject.org   they all might be interested

Also, ludwig von mises institute and Students for Liberty might be interested.

Was going to announce it later, but apparently people are still pretty interested. Releasing on christmas day (25th of December).

So did this become open source on Christmas day?
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Intrest-bearing Bitcoin Bank. on: December 22, 2011, 01:43:52 PM
How would you tackle the fraud issue? I wouldnt let anyone touch my btc after the Mybitcoin wallet thing, and now we hear Bruce our biggest spokesperson is very likely a long time fraudster, seems like everywhere you turn someone wants to steal your coins.

I think it would be interesting to get a quote for deposit insurance form the Lloyd's of London

 http://www.lloyds.com/

If a bank provided real insurance they could charge a little higher fees to cover the cost of insurance. I bet no one would complain.

We tried that via lloyds,  the fees were SO high that it would effectively price out smaller deposits...

I think it is awesome that you looked into it!. Could you post the quote? I think it would be a interesting piece of information.

Heard about the boy who cried wolf? You greatly over estimate how exciting people think yet another wannabe exchange site is.

It's not a "wannabe exchange." I am release the code for it. And there should be an idea of what the code they will be downloading is like.

You do realize that if the code looks good and people use it, they may be willing to send you a few coins. So, when do you now plan on releasing the code?
9  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mother of 15 Kids: “Somebody needs to pay for all my children." on: December 02, 2011, 12:56:38 PM
Somebody has to care for them to want to enslave people to have these children cared for. Otherwise, they would be left to die. The fact that it's an issue shows they will be cared for. It's only a matter of expressing that compassion morally without tyranny. In the end, if violence has to occur, it's only due to laziness from the people who send the brutes to get the children cared for.

There are an estimated 30 million real, actual, no-foolin' slaves left in the world. By claiming that a billionaire who pays 15% tax on his capital gains is in the same league with them, and spending 99% of your time complaining about his "plight" while ignoring the real slaves, you pretty much make yourself out to be a disgusting piece of shit.

Your arrangement is just about percents? So, at what point does one become a slave? 50%, 75%, 95%, 99.999999999% ? what then?
10  Other / Politics & Society / Re: As a 17 year-old libertarian: on: November 26, 2011, 02:54:24 PM
Actually it's the republicans and the rise of right wing conservatism that did that. Reagan did nothing but spend money that the country didn't have and it basically set the prescedent for every other president (except clinton, who understood that you need to actually have money before you can spend it) to do exactly the same thing.

Thats right. FDR and Wilson (among others) didn't spend money. They spent magic fairy dust!

I think a better question would be:

What do we need government for?
12  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Start your own Bitcoin Exchange! on: November 21, 2011, 12:31:25 AM
Have you released the code?
13  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anti-Laundering Policies US on: November 16, 2011, 06:10:48 AM
I recently found out that the current US (Federal) Anti Money Laundering laws now cover "Stored Value Cards", such as gift cards, moneypaks, and prepaid visas/mastercards. It no longer only covers Money Orders.

How do you think this policy will affect people looking to buy bitcoins, the bitcoin economy as a whole, and money laundering in general. (Bonus points if you incorporate Silk Road)

Don't care what the state says. I'm a anarchist

Yay! Then the poor will be guaranteed to starve and freeze as well!

Government guarantees this happens. Can you point to example where government money has not? I would be interested.

Or a example where "free Market" currency has harmed the poor, in the absent of government perversion?

Just one?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_privatization#Cochabamba.2C_Bolivia

And I know you won't read it, so here:

"In the previous years, despite funds made available by the World Bank to support the public utility of Cochabamba, access to piped water in the city had decreased to 40%, water losses had remained high at 40% and water was supplied only 4 hours a day. Those not connected to the network paid ten times as much for their water to private vendors as those who were."

For water. This is a good example pretty much because it's one of the few "goods" we need to live.

I see your wikipedia.org article and raise you a author John Perkins http://www.johnperkins.org/ author of "confession of a economic hit man"

His book is really great and I suggest everyone read it. My socialist college professor made this book assigned reading in her English class. It is one of the books that made me realize that the "state is never moral".

End The State?

You can't end the state.  The most you can hope for is to dissolve your own state and then someone else's state will invade and be your new masters.

That's right "lay down your guns gentlemen, this other "king" and "his" men in shiny uniforms are here to rule us".

Have you thought about cotacting Mark at www.freetalklive.com ? They might have some kind of radio commercial production deal.

Here is why I ask, because to have a professional commercial made, it would set u back about $1000 ish. But maybe Free talk live can produce a commercial for you (and you own the rights to the commerical) if you buy commercial spots on their program. A.K.A every once of you budget goes to on air play time.

Boy...  I hope this is the case.  It would be exactly what we are looking for.  Especially if Xenland can keep the rights to the ads and can repurpose them for terrestrial radio spots.

Maybe sweeten the deal with them and run their  banner add for a month on your site or something. They are Anarchists (capitalist) so speak in their terms.

I find your discussion on money laundering to be quite funny. I find it funny because many people in the U.S, that argue that it is some how a bad thing forget America would not exist if it not for "laundered monies".

The irony   Grin
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin commercial on: November 13, 2011, 04:34:13 AM
Money laundering shouldn't be a crime any more than using encryption (TLS, Truecrypt, pgp, etc) to protect your other personal data. If you're a criminal and "laundering" money, you'll eventually be caught for the crimes you're committing to make that money and that should be that. I should be allowed (and I can with Bitcoin) to hide my finances - it's nobody's business how much I have or what I do with it.

+1 Exactly.

Write your Congressman. I'd like to read the bill you would propose to justify money laundering. Good luck with your pro-crime sentiments.

What is crime?
