My case is running around 50Mhash/sec when my screensaver is on, and stopping when I'm working at the computer.  I guess I ideally need to figure out lowering the impact of the GPU miner.  But, gee, it sure works swell right now.

If it's between having recent stats and hurting intermittent crunchers, and having 2 hour stats delays, I'm ok with the stats delays.  :-)  But, preventing cheating trumps all.

However, I don't think it's worth it. First of all, there are only 2 GPUs as far as I can tell. Didn't see an option for a 4x GPU cluster. Furthermore, you'd need something like 1600 MHPS to justify the $2.10 cost / hour.

I also came to the same conclusion, getting around 70Mhash/sec.  The route I took was rather crazy, because I had a tool-chain for Ubuntu Maverick, but the Maverick AMI didn't support the GPU machines, so I went with the CentOS AMI but I couldn't get the tools to build under CentOS.  So I built a Maverick chroot, which I copied over to the GPU machine running CentOS and ran the miner from that.

I also found there were 2 GPUs, it wasn't able to run with 4, although the specs for the cards used there seemed to imply that there were 2 GPUs per card, I didn't find that that was the case, at least from what was visible to me.

If I was mining for myself I'd have 100BTC right now.

I think the thing you're forgetting here is that your computer found two blocks with the help of hundreds of others.  If you were solo mining, you would have had to go through all the chunks that other computers had gone through, to reach the one that was the hit, and you would have had to have done it faster than the pool could do it.  It's not that you are unlucky, it's that you're lucky and just happen to be hitting on these chunks that have the magic jam in them.

Remember, the reason the pool was set up was, as I understand it, slush was running a fairly hefty rig, and was not getting hits after even several days, so this was a way of getting many people helping and through that getting, say, a steady 10BTC/day, rather than hitting the 50BTC lottery every 5 days...

Normally through an evening of mining on the server I can check the statistics page and see my reward. For example from #1072 to #1088 I was rewarded however at #1089 the reward is none. I'm assuming this is because the block was solved very quickly ( duration of 1:52 ) and within that time my miner did not solve the lower difficulty block and thus submit a share?

My assumption here is that what happened is:

  • My miner got a chunk from the previous block.
  • The previous block was solved and the new block was started.
  • 1.5 minutes later the new block was solved and a new block was started.
  • My miner submitted a response after around 2 minute of work, and gets a chunk from the new block.

So, my miner never worked on this really short block, but it did work on the ones surrounding it and did get to participate in them.

That's just a guess, but it seems like that would make sense.  I also presume you get participation points for completing a block, not for starting it...
