I would enjoy a key if I make it under the wire.  Thanks!
862  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 on: June 06, 2013, 01:52:49 AM
Buy the car of the future with the currency of the future! I am offering a beautiful, excellent condition 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 for 300 Bitcoins. I am not accepting any other currency, nor am I tying the price to any exchange rate. Buy it today, tomorrow, or yesterday for BTC300.

Full details here: http://bitcoinmotor.com

Nice.  Before BTTF these were cheap.  Then they got expensive.... Then they got cheap again.  Now they are back up in the $30k mark.  I remember looking at these at the $10,000 mark or even less.  Not anymore!

I don't care if he has my account number and people know about my miniscule amount of btc.

If hackers can:

1) find my computer
2) access my computer
3) hack my account
4) hack my truecrypt key

Then power to them.  It will, after all, only take 674,909,467,304,392,809,907,186,036.3 years to hash my password at 500 Mhash/sec.
 (tl;dr value:  674 septillion years)

Good luck! Smiley

864  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How could bitcoin be used to directly benefit the gay community? on: June 04, 2013, 06:51:08 PM
This is a serious question.

Bitcoin needs to be attached to more positive things.

How could btc be used to directly benefit the gay community?  How could btc lead the way in this area of civil rights?

Let's try and keep this thread positive please.  If you have issues with gays, this is not the place to have those discussions.

Bitcoin will probably not help gay people specifically because bitcoin empowers both the rich and the poor nearly equally.  Economic inequality is not a problem for the gay community and gay rights groups are not economicly persecuted like wiki leaks and other free speech groups.  The gay community is looking for legal equality and that is mostly a political endeavor not an economic one.  This is not saying that a group like the HRC would not benefit from taking Bitcoin donations, it just won't help them more then a conservative group doing the same.
865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin marketing lies on: June 04, 2013, 10:28:00 AM
mining pool operators decide the transaction fees, which is a handful of people (the 'elite').

14% are not pools and most accept free transactions, 17% is ASICMINER which accepts free transactions as well. The rest "high" fees are a free market regulating itself and that is clear as the hashing power get redistributed between pools by simple guys like me and the typical Joesixgigashashminer.

if an "elite" like slush choose 1 BTC as fees he will not hinder the network more than his variance of finding a block which will delay your transaction mostly by nothing and in 6-7% of the transactions, by a couple of minutes, if ever.

so yes, it's quite centralized. it has already happened before with the 0.0005 minimum fee and will happen again as miners lobby the developers to code in higher minimum fees for better profits for the miners

The reason was not for better profits for the miners and a quick calculation of mining fees against block reward will show how absurd that is when you compare to the reason we all know, Which is to stop spamming the network and inflating the block chain. As well as planting the seed for the fees free market mechanism.

what's also notable is that mining pool operators are not voted for by the people for the people so it's not even close to democratic

The voting is done with hashing power so when I move my mining operation from slush pool to deep bit that is considered voting for a different pool operator and that is exactly what happened when deepbit reached 51%+ of the network.

Further more on this subject I would also add that slush and others are working on extending the adding features to stratum to allow the pools miners to choose specific transactions to include.

huge flaw in bitcoin that can only be fixed with a new bitcoin protocol. I guess satoshi forgot about this Wink

Then dig in by all means and help out. Go to extends of forking and creating an alt coin but please don't let all what I wrote to you go in vain. I am not trying to discourage you or plainly say you are wrong. I am trying to help you as much as I can to inform you of any information that I know regarding the subject. Now it is just your part of checking the validity or my responses and the rationale regarding the works-in-progress/done of the points you questioned of Bitcoin.
nothing prevents mining pool operators from making a joint operation and decide to increase fees. there is just a current 'trust' by the bitcioners that mining pool operators won't form a group 'elite'.

Once they do form a group (they will, because absolute power corrupts absolutely), they can drip by drip increase the fees as they see fit. ofcourse they won't do it in any big amounts (maybe 2% increase a year), just enough so it doesn't cause a riot amongst the peasants of bitcoin. they could also decrease fees and this way control the money supply by deflation and inflation to their private agenda.

As long as true barriers to entry are not formed (like only people with x amount of hashing or license) there will be people able to do free transactions. One could form a public group that was a p2p pool that would take free transactions.  It is quite hard to completly lock out free transactions though you certainly can slow them down.

Do you ship to EU, mate? I could use a few of these. I'm in the UK.

Yes, though shipping is expensive now from the US to the UK.  Shipping is about $15 internationally.
867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Laser Engraver? on: June 03, 2013, 10:45:55 PM

its really tough to print a QR code using one of those - I was thinking a paper wallet complete with Codes printed on aluminum or other metal stock (thin but not paper thin)
No, it is not too hard to do a QR on one.  They will not be as durable as your metal version as even heat or light will make the Dymo fade, but you can pop out a clean QR from a Dymo in no time.

868  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin marketing lies on: June 03, 2013, 10:44:28 PM
Depends whom you are talking to. An economist, a merchant, a nerd, an anarchist, a socialist, a cop, a farmer, a teenager, a grandmother, a gangster, a monk, or any combination of the above will obviously have their own unique perspective and interests.

I like what Paysius did, for example - they have a pitch for merchants, and a pitch for "customers." Go check it out.

ok, question answered.

next question: why are these things really not a problem?

Well each could be a whole thread in itself but..

Bitcoin CAN be anonymous, it just is hard to do.  So it really is not a lie.  Just like saying 'this car can move a mattress safely on the highway' but knowing that you need skill and an understanding of aerodynamics to make it work.  It is not a lie, even if 75% of people can't figure out how to prevent the mattress from flying off.  Done properly Bitcoin is anonymous.

I gather that most people don't NEED Bitcoin to be anonymous so of course that is the other angle.

869  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Homeland Security raids mall kiosks, claims they "fund terrorists" on: June 03, 2013, 10:35:02 PM
Well, given that they're doing it wholesale, and this is just one tiny fudge, aren't there bigger fish to fry? I mean, all he did was leave out "could."

One word is all it takes to make the truth a lie. The real question is why was the title "Police seize counterfeit goods from stores" not chosen? The answer is obvious: because the truth is boring.

This is huge mission creep for DHS and by the logic that 'could fund terrorist' basically applies to ANY profit making venture.  Nothing about the goods being counterfeit makes it MORE likely to fund terrorists.  And I am not against legitimate raids by local police after a warning has been given that goods are counterfeit so long as counterfeit does not extend into 'gray market' (non counterfeit goods intended for a different market) goods.  That is also mission creep and should be handled with just a lawsuit.
870  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Best/worst places to be in the United States once the USD plummets? on: June 03, 2013, 10:25:09 PM
The less red, the better.

In most of those areas, less red means less water, which means no food.

I'll take the difficulties of dealing with obtaining water over the difficulties of dealing with hungry mobs.

You start with your own supply of water and food in a remote place to outlast most, then you can go in six months to a lot more places with water later.  Having six months of food supply is not too hard, having six months of water is tougher unless you have a well.

872  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Desktop PC With Semi-Decent graphics card on: June 03, 2013, 09:26:12 PM
Hey guys I have about 1.3BTC to spend on a pc with a semi decent graphics card in it. I had a deal arrangement with someone else and the couldnt follow through with it so now im left in the dust. If anyone has something out there that they would be willing to sell and ship for this price I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Zacho
Depends on what you consider semi decent.  A semi decent graphics card like a 5850 is going to run close to $80.  Not much left for the PC part.
873  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here comes the hell-storm... Massive cash-in... on: June 02, 2013, 06:32:32 PM
And now it is back to 130... And rising above...

....

Nope, tug of war now!... lol

130 - 125 - 130 - 125... Better stop at 150 by the end of the day.

I like that chart, reminds me of the old arcade game I had in my apartment. "Defender".

1st and the 15th... major market moves... "pay day"
I played that on a real defender arcade machine Memorial Day weekend at Wildwood NJ.

875  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: best place to sell? on: June 01, 2013, 04:05:33 PM
well, after a long 4 hours of waiting, finally am able to post this question

where is the best place to sell an avalon pre order? i know there are various outlets, ebay with sky high prices etc, but would like to ear from members where they had best success with smooth transaction.

cant be arsed with scammers, people working overseas with aunts in the country etc etc...

ideally would prefer the sale to be in same country (uk), but can ship i guess...

no idea lol, only reason i am selling is that i jumped the gun a little, didnt think things through and am now a little strapped so freeing up funds

any advice you guys and gals could give would be muchly appreciated

Here is one of the better places, even with reputation selling a pre-order is a tough sale.  You need trust and being new does not help.   If you can find a LOCAL buyer who you can show solid proof of the sale and create a contract that may work.  And you might find that person here.
876  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Got my JALAPENO today mining at 5.9 Gh/s with some tweaks on: June 01, 2013, 02:54:00 AM
Skeptical post is skeptical.

A bunch of people have received Jalapenos now.

35 on this list: http://bfl.ptz.ro/

877  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon mining rig CLONES available for preoder (85 GH/s), BATCH 1 SOLD OUT! on: June 01, 2013, 02:45:37 AM
Agreed he is helping with the cgminer, a much better programmed / software than others. What's wrong with awarding him a miner? by doing so he will take the initiative to look after problems and what not and trouble shoot them, and he is also into updating the software as when needed.

+1

And if he is not given one to work with, why the hell should he make software work with it?   Unless he is paid, he has no responsibility to do it.  Plus, it is MUCH HARDER to program for something you do not have.
878  Economy / Goods / Re: [wts] Piratebox Squared about 1 BTC on: June 01, 2013, 12:21:27 AM
This is very cool.  It comes with the wooden pirate box at that price, then?

Yup.  Included, ready to go.
879  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL still hasn't shipped a single single? on: May 31, 2013, 10:29:40 PM
Josh's bullshit Post of the Day on May 24th was "As for the Singles, hopefully next week... we should have some boards coming in on Tuesday I think."

Another week gone by and still no singles shipped.

IIRC they started "shipping" jalapenos at the start of May.  May is now gone by and they've shipped how many jale's?   100 tops?

There is obviously zero bitcoin enthusiasts with a background in Law because BFL should have been taken to court months ago.
If BFL is taken to court, then no one gets their miners. If they are not, then people get their miners, they just get them late.

Given that a 60GH/s single is still slated to make $10k/month, I'm sure most first-day orderers would much rather take the non-litigation route and have a money machine pumping out as much in one day as they'd be likely to see in reward from any lawsuit.

I strongly believe this is the goal of most of the BFL trolls on this forum. They want to stir the shit until Big Brother gets involved and shuts it down... Most of the trolls have a vested financial interest in delaying more hashing power from coming online, as long as they possibly can...  Undecided

+1  Also some may be hoping people in front of them cancel so they get items faster.  A dangerous move but possible motivation.

Sgt Spike believes BFL is legit, but he's always been very reasonable and is definitely not a shill.  As for monkeywrench, he's a transparent shill and clearly has some kind of relationship with BFL.  I put him on ignore a week ago.

Sgt Spike, BFL may go out of business even if a lawsuit never materializes.  If they don't start shipping in bulk relatively soon, they will go under.  When that happens, no refunds for anyone, and no money printing machine either...  Every day that goes by there are more ASICs in the wild, more being produced and more being developed.  The clock is ticking for BFL, scam or no scam.

BFL is now shipping Jally's and we are seeing many in the wild.  The shipping rate does seem to be increasing.

I am getting crashed with signal 11 on startup on multiple versions of cgminer on one machine.  What did I do wrong.  A search here only leads to bad memory but machine has good memory.
