Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: opinions on monitor flicker

i'm using guiminer -v -f -w 128 . by tracking i mean theres one fuzzy line that travels up and down the monitor, kind of like when you had to adjust the tracking on your vcr. It could be mining too aggressively. i'd really like to just run this mining onobtrusively in the background. the recommended resolution is 1900 x 1200 but thats also the only res that has problems.

Bitcoin / Mining support / opinions on monitor flicker
|

So i've been mining for a while with 2 hd 6850's but recently when i run in high resolution my moniter starts flickering/tracking something awful. I suspect its the monitor bc if i run in a lower resolution with 75hz refresh it (for the most part) clears up the problem. I just would like to know if anyone else has had problems with flickering? I'd hate to dump a pile of money on a monitor and find out its stress from 24/7 mining. My gpu's are running at 63 degrees and 74 degrees. the monitor is a cheapy hanns-g 27.5". I hooked up an old CRT i had with no problems. any input would be appreciated!

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched!

As an outside observer, I have noticed that Litecoin is the only altchain thus far to have a user base that actually attempts to use it. Lots of my friends, only mine for Litecoins, because they don't have GPUs... But a lots of idle CPUs... This is a great reason why I like Litecoin... More people can make money with its idle computers right now... I'm sure this is a good thing... this is why i'm thinking litecoin could become more mainstream in time.

Economy / Marketplace / Re: gold or silver bars as heirlooms?

this just happened to me a few weeks ago. I was having dinner at my mom's house and telling her about how i was collecting silver as a way to save money. she gets all happy and goes into the back room and brings out a 10 oz silver bar! It turns out my grandfather bought it for me in 1978 (FOR 60 DOLLARS!) when i was just a wee little one. He passed away in the nineties and my mom forgot all about it. it's a great gift and very meaningful to me. I'm also glad she didn't give it to me when i was younger bc i would have just cashed it in and spent the money on weed.

Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB]Coloured Smoke Balls!

i'll give this thread a bump bc of the experience i had with some of these. I had a bag full of them and someone slipped an old school cherry bomb from the 60's into it (not on purpose i found out later, it was a cleaning accident). i was lighting the smoke bombs and throwing them around and lit the cherry bomb thinking it was a smoke bomb and was about to hit my friend in the head with it. at the very last second i had a weird feeling so i set it down. it blew up like you wouldn't believe! took a huge chunk out of the table and deafened both of us for a few minutes. every time i see those smoke bombs i get chills how close i came to blowing up my hand or severely injuring my friend. anyway the ones that just make smoke are really cool.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The way US government can crack down Silk Road, Tor and Bitcoin
|
on: February 01, 2012, 04:26:26 PM

right now i think we're in a gray zone with the us govt. I think they are hoping we just go away/self destruct. if they started cracking down on silkroad/bitcoin users they would validate bitcoin as a viable currency and silk road as an easy way to score drugs and guns . Not to mention all the free press bitcoin and silkroad would get. now if more ppl start using silkroad/bitcoin that will probably change. I definately agree that there are probably feds with accounts on silkroad, mostly to gather information. I mean i'd love to believe that the united states would be above selling guns to random ppl for information/political gain but em, fast and furious comes to mind. So the probability that there is a seller with good feedback out there making a list of buyers for uncle sam is very high imo.
