Shot in the dark, is it decentralized sports betting via asset exchange?

Nope, think bigger, it's something that everyone uses (and is forced to use by some extent), but doesn't really like using due to one factor. NXT removes the factor.

A Nxt Public Toilet?

+1, I like to see "Here is what Ripple can do, and here is how Nxt can do it better" instead of "Ripple does this better"  Let's move on.  If I wanted to hear about Ripple, I'll go walk over to their office.
803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 09:31:58 PM

Whatever, I'm bored with this. I really don't know why I bother.

Me neither.

I will buy all of your Nxt for Ripple.

More on Ripple vs. Nxt

When people here tell me to STFU about comparing Ripple's features to Nxt's it reminds me of a theoretical Burger King R&D Manager testing new product but shouting at their staff to stop comparing the new french fry recipe to McDonalds fries, and stop bringing up how McDonald's fries don't  don't turn your teeth green and don't cost $5 more per order to manufacture.

If you don't want people to compare them, then come up with new ideas that haven't already been done by Ripple already, or at least do those things better. I am seeing neither thing happen.

Ripple isn't for everyone, Nxt isn't for everyone.  As I stated in my previous post (which you didn't quote for some reason Smiley) Ripple is very centralized and at the mercy of their VC's and US Government regulation.  They are a corporation.  To me they don't have much crypto credibility, and I do know several people that work for Ripple Labs.  These guys are not passionate about Ripple, it's just a paycheck.  I personally am thankful we have Nxt as an alternative to Ripple, BTC, or whatever.  I think most people are annoyed by your Ripple posts, which are repetitive and don't really offer much.  Ripple is much more mature than Nxt, so it's like Apples and Oranges at this point.

Hi everyone!
Due to the somewhat delicate matter of this post, I just registered this account (I already posted this on the NXT Asset Exchange Thread but as Anon136 pointed out, it was not the right place, so I decided to repost it in this thread).

I was a long time customer of Silk Road (SR) and its follower (Sheep Market, Silk Road 2.0). SR made over 1.2 billion in revenues. There are several voices who claim that it was SR who made Bitcoin popular. In the last months there were several major drawbacks for these kind of markets: The Bitcoins of the vendors / customers got stolen either from hackers or the platform itself. Of course after such bad experience especially the vendors do not want to trust their funds to an anonymous platform since there are huge trust issues involved. Desperately they are looking for an alternative solution. The Asset Exchange could solve this problem for the vendors.

What they need is (beside the obvious):
1.     The setup of their products must be easy
        a.    Description
        b.    If possible pictures
2.     Message system
3.     Easy Payment

To address the demands of the customers. The following criteria must be met:
1.     Easy access
2.     Ratings of the vendor
3.     Message System
4.     Easy Payment

I would say that it's possible, but would be improved with some kind of escrow system via AT.  Having an in-client storefront would also be ideal for SR users to browse.  For now, if there are trusted members with feedback rating and secure messaging, Nxt would be a good platform.  We would need a fairly comprehensive guide to distribute on how to trade via Nxt and also some unwritten guidelines such as; a vendor has to have a minimum of 10k Nxt in account, to prevent some scammers.

Can we port Nxt over to this?  http://www.wolfram.com/language/  Smiley

Could you be a bit more specific?

No, just joking, although I like see the new language.
808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 05:47:23 PM
nxt voting must be based on stake. All other solutions are wrong. There is no chance to have verified accs in decentralized apps

Could you remind me what method that you guys just got voted to various committees ?

Ask RickyJames

Thanks for the personal insult El3k0n.

Nxt Funds have NXT. If NXT is worth 1/32 of what it is worth today, then Nxt Funds have 1/32 of the actual dollars or Euros or gold or whatever to pay real devs, server costs, etc.

msin, I agree with you on every point you made except the part where you said you wouldn't mind if the Nxt market cap went to $1 mil.

Nxt whales have already taken $18 million of market cap out of Nxt from 50 million to 32 million today. Nxt needs new investors and needs the market cap to grow NOW. Nxt needs that market cap (price of NXT) to grow in order to attract new investors.

NXT Whales. Stop Dumping and give Nxt time to release AE. Thanks. You've taken your profit. Now invest in the future of Nxt.

Only idiots care about market cap. It's a meaningless number.

Yes, of course, I agree with spending power.  But we need to focus less on the MarketCap of Nxt at this time and more focus on advanced features, including CFB's MMORPG!

Yes, my point was that I'm holding onto my Nxt until I can spend it on something I want (a house, a boat, an island).  I have never sold 1 Nxt, only bought.  I never will sell Nxt, I will only buy things with Nxt.  If you want the price to increase, focus on developing DAC, NxtCash, AT, Parallel Blockchains, CCT.  We can't market what we don't have.  Build new features and they will come.   I can email Marc Andreessen and tell him to buy Nxt but he won't buy Nxt because he thinks the market price will go up, he will buy Nxt because he thinks 10Mil people will be using it.
812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 04:38:13 PM
But everyone  HAS to admit that .1 is high, at least for long term.  Consider BTC now and how extremely low fees are.  This is because BTC is still in mining phase now; consider what BTC will look like is 2140 when no more coins are generated and miners are then paid only in fees.  Hell, consider what will happen to mining soon when block subsidy is halved again - drastic ROI change.  Does anyone know when this happens again?

BTC is POW coin and will still require computation/electricity once the mining phase is over.  It costs me absolutely nothing to run Nxt software on my computer, as my system is already running regardless if I run nxt node or not, and my bandwidth is unlimited.

It's funny the other day I was on my dedicated Nxt node forging computer (I often forget it's even on), it's a Gigabyte Brix that sits in the corner of my desk.  I decided to sync my Bitcoin wallet on the same machine.  When I opened bitcoin-qt I thought my Brix was going to explode.  CPU 100%, Fan running full blast, everything completely slow.  I quickly shutdown bitcoin-qt and let the machine relax running Nxt.  I then sent out some Nxt donations which went out instantly and sat back and drank a beer, wondering why BTC is so popular.
813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 04:31:30 PM

I don't want to base a decision to use a platform on some arbitrary decision that may or may not happen in the future. I have no faith in the decentralized developers to make this decision correctly in the future. I want to know now what would happen in the future before I decide to waste any more time believing in this product's potential.

Then you must also have to believe that the Devs are immune to/don't understand the effects of market forces.

Do you honestly think the fee won't change if it costs $620,000 to issue an asset (to use your example)?

Personally I value BrianNowhere's opinion.  Although I would like to see him offer some more solutions rather than state how Ripple is better in this way or that.  On a side note, I personally know several of the Ripple Lab developers here in the silicon valley.  I don't trust Ripple, they are a for profit company backed by VC's, they have a stockpile of reserve Ripple to use whenever they want.  They can issue new Ripple whenever they want.  They can be shut down by the US government at any moment and all be arrested.  They could be acquired by Google tomorrow.  They have close to zero street credibility.  They didn't release their source code until they were all but dead and completely discredited. There are no Ripple enthusiasts (other than BrianNowhere  Wink  Emunie has so many issues and the UK government can arrest Dan tomorrow and the project is dead, totally closed source, and price controlled.  I like Nxt for all the reasons they are not Ripple or Emunie.  At this point I wouldn't care if Nxt goes to $1Mil marketcap, it's about focusing on usability and projects like DAC, NxtCash, Nodecoin, AT, Parallel Blockchain, CCT get me excited.  That is my opinion.

First of all, it's nice to see the trolls have gone to bed, please ignore them when they post, it's hard to read this thread as is.

I don't think it's a good idea to change the issuance of Assets whatsoever.  If someone wants to register BTC and squat on it, then so be it.  We can't police someone registering CIYAM who isn't CIYAM.  I assume we will have a registration process similar to Alias, where the highest bidder will get the Asset name when the block is forged.  This will help prevent spam Assets as well.

I do think it's a good idea (as James suggested) to have a reputation system, voting +/-, and perhaps linking Alias name with Asset to verify within Wesleyh client.  We need freedom to register Assets and I don't like the idea of someone telling me when I can trade my asset or what name I can use.  I don't think it's a big deal to have BTC or 1BTC or zBtc as the standard for Bitcoin in Nxt AE.  I don't imagine anyone will be buying Assets for Crypto other than through James' DAC.  Buyers need to beware and Wesleyh can put in a warning screen for people who click on Asset Tab "Please verify Asset owner before buying ANY Asset in exchange"

We still need a couple Java guys to help CIYAM with AT code port and Parallel Blockchain, this should be a priority!  Please register at http://ciyam.org/open and help him.

Regarding Asset Exchange:

1. Is there a way to give out dividends?
2. I am envisioning that there would be tons of people creating whatsoever assets, I believe a way to manage it is necessary.  Like categories? favorites?
3. I also think there should be a moderator who could flag assets that are fraudulent.

I agree with #2, would be great to sort assets by trading volume, price, etc..  We are decentralized, no one can moderate the exchange, however, we could have a reputation system and forum threads so people could do a little research before buying.
816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 17, 2014, 11:28:43 PM
We need something that will make NXT relevant, a flagship application that people aged 16-24 (the ideal target audience of a crypto-currency business, or at least mine) can't resist.

I'm working on that right now. Digital Goods Store that could be used to sell pornopics.

Just to confirm, are we talking about a "Digital Goods" Store or a Digital "Goods Store"?

You are a fucking stupid idiotic retarded moron and thief.

me emule Cheesy

welcome on my ignore list, congratz you are in company of emule there.

wow, quite a reaction there, must have really hit a nerve, and now you are calling him a thief, just like emule has, after admitting to dumping, after emule has

Well, I would be angry if someone accused me of being emule, although I wouldn't use that language.  Not sure why Pin is being attacked here, did I miss something?

not sure you get how pin was 'attacked', it was just a few musings and coincindences.  what he did certainly was attacking though.

Yeah, but what's the point?  Seems like a useless effort.  You don't know what will offend people on this forum so why try?

I have no idea what the "need" to even bring it up was.
I asked for proof, and none was provided.
There is a phrase for that: "spreading baseless rumors".

And that is just blegh in my book. And that's the last I will say about it.

I agree, let's move on, thought someone should stick up for Pin as he's done good work for Nxt and I don't know why comparisons were made with emule.  Again, seems like one could be more productive with posts.
