Adding a nonce, as I propose, would make the system remain provably fair even in that case.

I agree with Dooglus that adding a nonce doesn't seem to make it any harder for a malicious actor find collisions. The key to being resilient against collisions is choosing a good hash algorithm like SHA2.

Alternatively,  let us assume a game scaled-down to only 12 cards: it is reasonable to expect that you could repeat a previously seen permutation and be abused by a malicious player. Adding a nonce would prevent cheating also in that case.

We protect ourselves from this scenario by adding a random server_seed to the Secret component. So, even for a game with a small deck of cards, the Secret will always be different because we'll choose a different server_seed for every shuffle.

We have played around 100,000 hands of blackjack at Bitzino over the passed 6 months with success. Is there anyway to get a hand history so we can break this down in a chart?

regards
alan

We're happy to provide you a hand history! Please just reach out to our support team (https://bitzino.com/support), and they'll take care of you.
3  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: January 31, 2014, 01:07:27 AM
I have a question on how the provably fair system can resist collision scams.

I know this would be extremely difficult in the bitZino case (impossible for all practical purposes as long as the hashing algorithm remains unbroken), because the server secret is a coherent JSON string of cards. However, this could be the case on a cointoss setup where the server secret seed is just a random (or random-looking) string.

A malicious server could select two colliding seeds and show their identical hash. Then, upon receiving the client seed, the server chooses the server seed that yields the most favorable outcome and reveals it to the client, who has no means to know about the existence of the alternate seed. Therefore, the system is not provably fair.
Know collisions exist for the still widely used MD5 algorithm, and theoretical collisions (a significant reduction of the entire search space) are possible for SHA-1.

A possible solution could be that in the first step, the server combines its secret seed with a public nonce and shows the combined hash. This ensures that no collisions are available.

What do you think?

Thanks for the question oriolpont! bitZino uses the SHA256 hashing algorithm in our provably fair process, so our users are not susceptible to a hash collision attack as you describe. The SHA256 hash algorithm is the same one used for bitcoin mining, so if hash collisions in SHA256 become possible at some point in the future, we'll have a much larger problem on our hands than just bitZino's provably fair system.

Thank you, at least someone told the truth about it.  I was trying to say this for a long time and no one would listen lol.  Also they can effect the odds without you evening know and still show the correct hash. This dont mean anything with the provable fair system.

We cannot influence the odds of any wagers you place in bitZino, other than simply changing the rules to the game in question, which you will know (for example, if we paid out 6 to 5 on a blackjack instead of 3 to 2, you'd be able to easily notice this).

I posted this here because I noticed that bitzino is very pedagogical on the concept of provable fairness, and the subject is being actively discussed here.

Thank you for posting this, and feel free to follow-up if I wasn't clear enough in my explanations! Also, in case you didn't know, we wrote up a detailed article about the technical aspects of our provably fair system. You can read it here: https://techblog.bitzino.com/2012-06-30-provably-fair-shuffling-through-cryptography.html

Sorry about the recent downtime! We were indeed offline for a few hours due to some unexpected hardware issues. We work hard to keep our uptime percentage high, so we've identified and fixed the underlying issues that caused this downtime. Thanks for your understanding!

We've received reports that scammers are using the nick "Bitzino" on IRC in order to attempt to solicit investments. I just want to state here that we are not seeking any investments, and we do not have a presence on IRC. If you see anyone using our name in order to solicit investments, it is most definitely a scam.

for the seed i can even enter unicode like  ٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶

Ah, good point! Our client-side javascript will only generate alphanumeric strings, but our backend does accept any valid UTF8 string.

libertaad how many people did it take to build the code and backend to your site? it has a nice look.

Thanks for the kind words! I can't say for sure how long it took to initially build, but I can say that the work is never done.

Hi, I'm an affiliate marketer looking to sign up and add bitZino to my list. I looked but could not find any info at all yet I do see some review sites have affiliate codes. Please let me know how to obtain one, thanks.

Thanks for the interest! Please reach out to us via https://bitzino.com/support, and we'll take care of you.

From the craps dictionary:
Marker Puck
A plastic disc that the dealer uses to mark the Point Number on the Craps table. When the puck is turned so that "OFF" is face up, then a Come-Outroll is about to start and Place Bets and all Free Odds Bets have no action.

It is the latter clause that causes the issue, normally place bets are OFF as well on the come out roll, but on bitzino they are always ON.  Hence my confusion.  Not a major issue at all, but one that bit me so I figured I'd give you a heads up.

Thanks for the feedback! We've went ahead and made a change to our craps game so that the puck is never shown with the text "OFF" displayed. Between points (ie, prior to the comeout roll), the puck is simply not shown at all. Hopefully this helps clear up any confusion!

Thanks for helping us make bitZino a better place to play! Can you let me know your bitZino username (PM is fine), so that I can give you a little bonus for helping us out?

libertaad, the client seed is 2^32 space, correct?

The client seed itself can be any value up to 32 alphanumeric characters, so the number of possible values for the client seed is about 2^190.

This happened just 15 minutes ago!

Not many bitcoin casinos actually offer provable gaming, pay instantly, oh and actually let "real players" hit royals! Congrats to the BitcoinCasinoPro guest who won!

They let 'real players' hit royal flushes on video poker too:

No problem at all withdrawing the 32.768 BTC winnings.

Congrats on the Royal Flushes! I just did some quick analysis, and see that over the past 6 months, we've seen 14 Royals in video poker (not counting deuces wild). The biggest wins, which have happened twice, were for 400 BTC! And of course, all winnings were paid out without issue Smiley

libertaad,

can you check to make sure withdrawls are operational.  I play frequently and my withdrawls are always almost instant.  Right now its been several hours and i have a few that are pending.  Can you take a look for me.

Thank you

It looks like our withdrawal processing system was indeed experiencing some delays. Sorry about that! All the delays have been dealt with, and our withdrawals are now sending out nearly instantly again.

Hi I am a huge bitzino fan and love your site, especially craps.

I do have a request though.  If you click the rules it clearly says that bets are always working.  However, the button on the layout (upper right hand side by the come/place bets track) is set to its black "OFF" side.  Since bets are always working it should be set to its white "on" side.

Thanks for working to make a great site.

I'm glad to hear you're a big fan!

Regarding the button in craps: Thank you for your feedback on this! The way we use the button (and the way I thought it was most commonly used) is to indicate whether the point is on or off, and to indicate what the point is when it's on.

However, I can understand how this may cause confusion into thinking that it indicates that certain bets are off. Perhaps a good solution would be to simply not display the button at all when the point is off?

Suddenly getting a LOT of Bad Gateway error messages;

Error

We're sorry, but something went wrong.

We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly.

bitzino username: mrbtc

Just deposited 1btc, but it appears site is down.  I hope the deposit did not get messed up.

Sorry about the momentary downtime! We're back up and fully operational now Smiley

Hi, i'm playing BJ this two days.
It's very fast and i like it Smiley
I like the color too, so my eyes didn't tired after a lot of shots Smiley

What a pity... no bonus Sad

Love your site and I have so much fun. I lost some and won some.  Any options for sound? Would love that feature.  Grin
Can we change the theme as well? How about a chat feature to chat with other players.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying bitZino!

Sound has been a "backburner" feature that we've been working on for a while now. Unfortunately, it keeps getting delayed for various reasons. Thanks for reminding us to get this working!

I like your idea for changing the themes! We hadn't really thought of this before, but we'll look into it.

We also haven't really considered adding a chat feature, because we haven't seen any demand for it. All of our games are single-player games. One thing we have considered is making it possible to make your game "public" so that other players could watch you play. I know that it can be really fun to watch high-stakes players make huge wagers, so I'm sure this would be a lot of fun.

Right now we're still hard at work building Let It Ride! Look for that to launch in the coming weeks!
11  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: September 27, 2013, 09:30:05 PM
Hey, any news here? :-)

We're working hard on releasing a new game: Let It Ride, so stay tuned for that!

We've also made a lot of behind-the-scenes improvements that you benefit from if you play with us, but you probably won't see directly:
  • We've improved our average HTTP response time to below 75ms across the board, this ensures our site is zippy and you don't have to wait longer than necessary to see the result of your wagers.
  • We also have improved our bitcoin payments system to scale better while continuing to support instant deposits and withdrawals whenever possible.
  • We've fixed numerous minor UI issues and other bugs as a result of user feedback.
  • Finally, we've hardened our continuous backup system, such that the risk of data loss is practically zero (therefore we have minimal risk of losing wager history or other data in the event of hardware failure).

As always, we're very open to feedback! If you have any games you'd like to see most, any feature requests, or any bug reports, please let me know!

Ok site is back ... was unreachable from France since about 30 Min ..

don't know why ...

Sorry about that! I'm glad to see it's back now.
13  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: September 10, 2013, 08:20:41 PM
Site is broken !

Everything is running well right now as far as I can tell. What is broken for you?

A+ rated for a reason payouts a tad slow as they not instant but the quality and fairness of game play is unmatched anywhere.

Thanks for the good rating!

Regarding payouts: withdrawals are typically processed and sent within a few minutes or less, as long as it's one of your first few withdrawals of the day. In order to minimize transaction fees (since we cover all fees for withdrawals), we do add a short delay to withdrawal processing after you've requested multiple withdrawals within the same day. This allows us to group these withdrawals together in a single transaction.
14  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: August 29, 2013, 08:43:59 AM
Yes, it's pretty fast now (at the respective setting), thanks!
(I haven't got to try it on the netbook, yet, but that will happen soon)

(actually on my PC it is so fast now, that I'm tempted to switch to a slower
animation-setting for the PC, and use the fastest setting only on the netbook ;-)

I'm glad this is working well now!

Sent .1 BTC over.
Got up to 7.5 BTC.
Gave it all back.

What a roller-coaster! I hope it was fun Smiley

Do players with birthdays get a birthday comp? I am a longtime player of Bitzino and I have a birthday coming up in September so I was wondering if you guys do that? Just curious! Lol.

No birthday comps, sorry Smiley I still wish you good luck though!
15  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: August 21, 2013, 03:29:02 AM
Thanks for the positive feedback everyone!

I kinda like the slots, but I'd have hoped for even faster animations when my profile is set up
for "fastest/off". Sometimes I play it on a slightly aged Atom-powered netbook, and the reels
seem to roll forever. any chance to make "fastest/off" really just show the final reel-positions?

PS: I know, that the reels spin while waiting for the lucky number, but even after the
first reel has stopped, it often still takes much too long for the other reels to stop as well.

Thanks for telling us about this! We have updated our slots animation so that the fastest/off setting should be much faster. We've changed the behavior so that it will still do some animations while waiting for a response from the server, but as soon as possible it will just show the results. Hopefully this will help with performance on your computer!
16  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: August 05, 2013, 09:44:11 PM
This is why I love the "client seed" - you can make hands like this happen:

Heh, nice! It is cool to know that your specific client seed completely determined this crazy hand. Any slight change, and you would have had a completely different hand.

One tiny issue I had was the buttons.  I feel like Hit and Stand should be exactly next to each other, they should be a bit smaller and have some space in between.  A few times I tried to stand, but I'd hit.  Or I'd wanna hit but I'd stand.  It's my fault for playing too fast and not paying attention to that but it's still easily avoidable Tongue.

Hm, I'm not sure if adding spaces between the buttons would completely remove the problem of mis-clicks. Maybe keyboard shortcuts would help you avoid mis-clicks? We are still working on that!
17  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: August 01, 2013, 08:20:51 AM
Since I saw you are online, I am curious to know if you know the answer to this question:
What is the % chance of winning if you eliminate blackjack like being dealt AJ is just simply 21. And excluding blackjack payout of 3:2, what is the Expected return or house edge? Always wondered this since right away you know you lose some value when you are not dealt a blackjack.

I can't say for sure, but I would guess it would add a few percentage points to the house edge.
18  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: August 01, 2013, 08:04:48 AM
On OS X using Safari, autoplay on the slots shoots CPU usage from 5% to hovering around 60%, is this normal?  As soon as I stop autoplay, CPU usage drops back down though.

This is expected behavior. Animations typically drive up the CPU usage. As long as it's not too much CPU, and as long as it goes back down when  then animations stop, then everything's fine.

but if you can adjust the numbers, well we have a whole different ballgame.

And fortunately, BitZino is "provably fair" by providing a hash of every deck before each play so that it can later be determined that the numbers were not "adjusted".

That is a feature you don't get in Vegas (yet), and not a feature provided even with all bitcoin-related online gambling. But with bitZino (and other "provably fair" gaming services), with every hand is the hash which will match the secret given after each play to ensure the sequence of cards in the deck was random (based on the seed provided by your browser) and did not change during play.

Thanks for your input Stephen.

Thanks for the input as well, Stephen! I'm also happy to answer any questions about our provably fair system.

Show my last 50 blackjack hands if you will.

You either had 21 or drew to 21 at least 15-20 times.

Name: gamer

and yes i was betting small amounts.

I would do it but can't figure out how. thanks

If you email our support team (https://bitzino.com/support), they'll be happy to send you a CSV of all your gameplay history.

I've also pasted in the summary of the last 50 hands you played below (all the bet size's were for μ฿). It looks like the house drew to twenty-one 11 times throughout your past 50 hands.

inb4 he was actually secretly mining bitcoins with your CPUs. The house must be doing pretty bad if they're resorting to CPU mining Tongue

I assure you we don't do this! And, if we were to do anything like it, we'd at least utilize the GPU with HTML5 technologies Wink

Agree! He was very generous, just because I reported a bug Smiley I was pleasantly surprised!

I was rolling and rolling and at some point I was waiting 8-9 sec for the dice to roll... I thought "buggy firefox" ... that opened Chrome... "what a difference", I thought! After 5 minutes the same situation... than I checked the processes Smiley
I am glad it is fixed! Craps is the best game in this casino (my opinion) Smiley

Wow, I can't believe how bad this was. I'm glad it's fixed! We double-checked all of our other games for similar issues, and they all were fine. Thanks again for letting us know about this issue!

btw you miss the Big 6 and Big 8 numbers! Not that I will play them, but they have a nice huge house edge (hint hint) Wink
And also normally in casinos you are allowed to take down your don't pass bet at any time... also a nice hint...  Wink
You could check this out: http://www.predictem.com/craps/removing.php

We specifically got rid of all the sucker bets in our craps game, because craps is already complicated enough for new players Smiley

We also got rid of the difference between "placing" a number vs "buying" a number, which new players often switch up, and therefore get worse odds. Instead, we just offer you the best odds for all the place bets.
