1661  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the purpose Behind all the Mining? on: May 24, 2011, 08:07:40 PM

Quote
The Bitcoin mining system is much more than a wasteful digital shell-collecting enterprise that one might see with currencies based on rare but useless material objects. It encompasses the role of counterfeiting prevention, provides a powerful market analysis tool and offers receipt functionality (the ability to prove that a transaction occurred, as well as see the sender, receiver and value) far better than similar systems in conventional currency can ever hope to, while maintaining anonymity, and attempts to compare the inefficiency of bitcoin mining to its equivalents in other currencies, both resource-based and fiat, need to take all aspects of this functionality into account.

My writer explains it best!

Wanna write for The Bitcoin Weekly? http://bitcoinweekly.com/pages/submission
1663  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Bitcoin Weekly Looking For Writers on: May 24, 2011, 03:49:26 PM
Some suggestions I'd offer:

  • Ask business owners (bitmunchies, Nefario, one of the shirt sellers, etc) if they want to write about their experiences joining the Bitcoin economy - I'm sure they'll be happy to oblige with the free advertising and all.
  • Make a list of more specific topics or ideas for people to write about - it can be hard to think of something by yourself
  • Advertise yourself as an employer more - you're by far the easiest way for people to get a significant amount of coin so they can start participating in the economy without going through all the hoops with Liberty Reserve and MtGox.

Implemented your suggestion in my initial post.

Sounds too good to be true. But it's only 50 bucks.

I am interested in commissioning a 4 panel comic about the progression of a raid in which the swat team discovered to their surprise a geek living in his basement with bitcoin miners stacked high, not a weed farm.

I don't know if there are good phrases:

"No weed Huh" - cop.

"Satoshi, help!" - geek.

If you think of something even funnier, let me know.

It will be 1 BTC for the art delivered privately to my email address: hackerkiba@gmail.com

Bitcoin Weekly Business Database Development Update

Each profile will now have a fact indicating if said business is dead...or alive.
1668  Other / Meta / Re: The last thing I want to see is political correctness. on: May 23, 2011, 07:14:36 PM
The fringers voices are doomed to decline. As bitcoin becomes more popular, more and more people that don't have a pathological hatred of government will start to trickle in. Fringers will find themselves increasingly alienated and marginalized in the face of an inevitable onslaught of 'norms'.

Eventually, bitter and disillusioned, the fringers will slink off to Free Republic or john-galt.com or wherever it is they find like-minded others, taking their copies of Atlas Shrugged and their Mises articles and their thousands and thousands of bitcoins with them.

Hey, thousands and thousands of bitcoins is worth something, so it's not a completely crappy deal.Wink

The future belongs to the norms guys. Tax-loving law-embracing norms, because bitcoin will enter the realm of the mainstream.

Don't care about norms and not-norms. I have enough of being a disillusioned and bitter do-nothinger. Bitcoin make me a bitter and disillusioned doer.

Now I run a magazine that manages to employ people, some for quite a while.

1672  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: [BUYING] 2 Programming Tutorial Screencasts (2 BTC each) on: May 23, 2011, 02:43:56 PM
Hey, I can do the python one.

I will try to teach as must as understandable to a newbie in 5 min.

It's still open right?

Yes. It's still open. I want the most very basic python tutorial.

Alright, I should have it soon, but don't start the clock yet.

EDIT: To be sure, do you want be to explain:

1. How to install.
2. What to use to program python. (I would suggest IDLE for the short tutorial, but mention others breifly)
3. What python really does (bytecode, what interpreted means, etc)

Or do you want me to get right into coding?

IF you wanna do that first, fine. email me at hackerkiba@gmail.com with your video and address.

Let me know when you're ready to start.
1673  Economy / Marketplace / Re: New Shirts in the Square²Wear Store (Including Bitcoin Designs) on: May 23, 2011, 01:20:43 PM
Yeah, I can help you out shirt-ifying that drawing.  But was that your original idea, or did you want to create a shirt that said "Bitcoin Weekly" on it?  Or is the idea to take that drawing and put "Bitcoin Weekly" on it?

bitcoin.org on the front and bitcoinweekly.com on the back. How much are you going to share was far as revenues/profit goes?
1674  Economy / Marketplace / Re: New Shirts in the Square²Wear Store (Including Bitcoin Designs) on: May 23, 2011, 01:08:01 PM
Possibly, do you already have a design?

Not that I know of... I do have a comic that I think is worth making a t-shirt into. http://bitcoinweekly.com/articles/bitcoin-comic-whack-a-mole

Just need some good lineart and it'll be good.
1675  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Pardon my Ignorance.. on: May 23, 2011, 04:52:05 AM
What would I need to know so that I can build a bitcoin wallet within javascript and chrome's local storage database?

Let just say I have a need for...wallet making to increase the bitcoin chrome project's independence against the bitcoin daemon.
1676  Economy / Marketplace / Re: New Shirts in the Square²Wear Store (Including Bitcoin Designs) on: May 23, 2011, 04:43:34 AM
Can I get you to sell bitcoinweekly t-shirt and share in some of the revenues?

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/developer/detail/npcplhlpjnnoclccciijknpgjkfbddbg/publish-accepted?hl=en-US

In order to use this, you must configure your bitcoin extension to use the bitcoin daemon rpcuser and password.
1678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Summery: startup idea employing bitcoin to solve the tl;dr problem. on: May 22, 2011, 11:09:43 PM
Thank you. I'm working at it.

This is what I like to see. Execution. Everything is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration.
1679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Summery: startup idea employing bitcoin to solve the tl;dr problem. on: May 22, 2011, 11:06:11 PM

The argument is that there are plenty wealthy and technical people around. The true great things happen when they are united by visionary people who don't know much about either and dare to dream
Supposedly, I lack visions/ideas. What does that entails? How do you know that I lack visions/ideas?

(BTW, it's making enough money to finance writers and maybe a little side profit. Nefario was right. My magazine simply require times.)

1680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Summery: startup idea employing bitcoin to solve the tl;dr problem. on: May 22, 2011, 10:59:26 PM
I execute on my ideas. So don't call me worthless, buddy.

If you read the next phrase, I said "he isn't totally worthless" and provided a reason why I think that.
