25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying another 5850 for crossfireX, want advice. on: February 27, 2012, 02:29:47 AM
I currently have a converted gaming rig that I am currently using for mining. It is currently running a 5850 at 300 mh/s at stock speed without OC, as I want to make sure my card has a fair longevity.

Here's a good starting point: I have two Sapphire 5850's@400MH/s each. They are running on 12.1 drivers with SDK 2.5 from the 11.11 drivers (SDK 2.5.793.1). I'm using cgminer with phatk kernel, vectors 2 and worksize 256; the cards are clocked at 970MHz core and 150MHz mems. I have auto-temp set at 70ºC (for "longevity"), the fan usually goes between 54-58% to achieve that.
are you overvolting? I don't think it's possible to get 400 MH with stock voltage.

Nope, stock voltage.

with 12.1/SDK 2.5 my sapphire 5850 gets 395MH/s
930 core 180 mem 1.088v
fan 50% 60c

I have 2x 5870 and  5850 running in windows. To get windows to recognize my cards I had to crossfire the 1st time. after crossfire drivers are installed you should turn it off in ccc for full speed.

All clock settings is done by bios editing

HD5870 940/195 1.075 = 434 mh/s 66c fan 45%
HD5870 940/195 1.075 = 434 mh/s 68c fan 45%
HD5850 920/195 1.088 = 390 mh/s 61c fan auto Sapphire Toxic

1258 total mh/s 560 watts at the wall

I'm still playing around with clocks setting to save energy so far I can get it down to 420 watts 1176 mh/s stable

Reflow soldering is the most efficient way to solder commonly used in manufacture. Since the whole board is being evenly heated soldering can be done to multiple connections at a time giving you a professional clean even job vs hand soldering each point. Methods can be done with ovens or hot air. Skrillet is just another method. Solder paste is use to apply exact amount for each connection.

I'm a casual gamer but a avid hardware tweaker for best performance. I love learning about how things work. I discovered bitcoin randomly on pc forums about new video cards for 2012.

Hello

I'm currently running a ASUS P7P55 WS SuperComputer with a Sapphire Toxic HD 5850. Just started mining with BitMinter and so far made 2 bitcoins! Looking forward to stay awhile.
