2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: wallet.dat virus on: June 17, 2011, 05:59:44 PM
thats kinda of my point

I see the that they suggest a savings/ checking method for useing bitcon keeping one wallet for storeing most of my coin long term

I guess my real question is why don't i have the option to password protect my wallet at the client level.

that way if a virus did take my wallet he wouldn't be able to open it unless he had my password

for all the crypto in this project it seems like that would have been pretty easy to implement

thanks

btw
truecrypt wouldn't help if your wallet was active
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of transactions on: June 15, 2011, 06:02:13 AM
im trying to make a map of whos paying who

Optionaly i would like to weight it with how much for each transaction (by color or something)

for example if i give you .05 bitcoin

it should be (at least i would think)

transaction # , from, to, amount

12141213412 , crash893(23423432t3413), freemoney(@!#$@%!@EHGEGSW),.05

(i know that username dont show up)

So on and so forth

but it seems like

12343152,crash893, freemoney,.13
14252123,freemoney,crash893,.8

is that wrong?
5  Other / Beginners & Help / hashing question on: June 15, 2011, 05:55:11 AM
Sorry this may have been published before but i was just curious

as i understand it the the 0000hash = (block data + random data) to get the correct hash (in this case with the N amount of leading "0")

is that random (like a salt but im not sure if it is called a salt) data coordinated in anyway with other users

is the salt generatoed randomly or is it brute force

any information would be great

6  Other / Beginners & Help / wallet.dat virus on: June 15, 2011, 05:49:14 AM
I was wondering Is there anyway to encrypt my bitcoin wallet so that a virus didn't pick it up and use it with out my control?

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can anyone tell me what is this code means? on: June 06, 2011, 02:52:27 PM
you could try to run a rainbow table on the hash to see if anything comes up but to be honest its just a shot in the dark.

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can anyone tell me what is this code means? on: June 05, 2011, 03:30:36 PM
the password seems to be hashed with a salt

witch basically means that your not going to reverse engineer what the password is.

if you wanted to figure it out in theory you would have to have a known password and then see what the salt is Hash(password+salt) = the answer

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Trying to map out transactions on: June 05, 2011, 03:28:26 PM
Hey all I wanted to do some experiments with visual mapping out who is sending to who in the bitcoin world.

Is there anywhere I can get my hands on a simple

Simple dataset

Transaction#  sent from, Sent To, Date?

I see there is some stuff on block exploere but I don't seem to see any large chunks of data

Thanks

Robert

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of transactions on: March 11, 2011, 07:44:31 PM
Im not sure i follow

say i have 5 cents and i want to give you 1 cent

i would pay you 1 cent and then pay myself 4 cents

is that accurate?

I still don't get the multiple inputs. wouldnt that just be two transactions?

how can you pay someone with two accounts at the same time anyway?
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of transactions on: March 08, 2011, 06:15:05 PM
in blockexploere (lets use block 112748 for an example)

Transaction?   Fee?   Size (kB)?   From (amount)?   To (amount)?
e264fe6786...   0   0.134
Generation: 50 + 0 total fees

1CtNGMTrzraQuQhvcR33haTw2Erg2tWF5M: 0.03

1) i dont understand how there can be more than one transaction per line
2) i dont understand why each sender and reciever have seperate amounts ( I know they equal the same amount )

but in one of these transaction on guy sends 12 cents that shows up as two transactions of 9 and 3 cents
in another two guys send to two diffrent guys

im not sure why its not

trans number , from address, to address, amount

I've been looking through block explorer but im still a little fuzzy on some of the terms and structure

Is there anyway /anywhere i can get a simple list of transactions with just the data of sender/receiver/amount?

16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some questionable aspects of Bitcoin on: March 01, 2011, 06:55:52 PM
Hello forum I have stumbled across Bitcoin recently and have some questions that particularly concern me. I work for various high-street banks, helping them ensure their facilities are not abused by criminals - anyone who would use a bank account as part of the process of making money illegally. The questions :

Can the administers of bitcoin track who is using their service?
in a way yes. they can't do anything about it nor tell who is the person is. (just id numbers which can be changed at anytime)
Do they retain sorting codes and account numbers of money origins and destination?
yes
Which bank provides bitcoin an account to store money which has been used to buy coins?
none. Each person is responsible for storeing there own bitcions (kept in your wallet.dat)
What is to stop, say, an identity thief, moving large amounts of money from my account into bitcoins and collecting them into their account?
bit coins if i understand correctly are a push only transaction that can not be reversed. I can't take bitcons from you directly. There is nothing to say a trojan virus couldnt move the coins to me. but thats going around the bush
What is to stop drug money being laundered through bitcoin?
nothing
What is to stop bitcoin being accessed by individuals or organisations under national or international sanctions - like evil regimes or terror groups?
im not sure what you mean by accessed
(End of questions)

I don't mean to pry, and I don't imply any threats - I ask totally 100% out of personal curiosity. Just bear in mind that if the answers to those questions aren't what I want to hear, its probably because my work days might become a lot more stressful!
Peace and love x

Edit.

If by accessed you mean break into my account then they would have solved the basic fundamentals of modern crypto and i'm sure bitcoins would be the last thing on there list to steal.
17  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What if any gpu can i use on: February 26, 2011, 04:54:17 AM
I still use my x16 card to play games its pretty powerfull

I have the 2x geforce 7950 gx2 not the default card for the 410

thats why im looking at droping something in the empty slots

any suggestions?
18  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What if any gpu can i use on: February 25, 2011, 04:17:16 PM
If you just use the gpu for mining the x4/x8 slot would work perfectly fine as bandwidth is not a problem for mining.

I am looking for just mining maybe use it as a secondary monitor (i don't know if you can do both)

what cards can i fit in a x4 x8 that i can use to mine?

can i do this from win7?
19  Bitcoin / Mining / What if any gpu can i use on: February 25, 2011, 02:14:29 AM
I have a dell xps 410

in that box i have

PCI: 3 Slots
PCIe x1: 1 Slot
PCIe x16 (Graphics): 1 Slots <---being used)
PCIe x4/x8: 1 Slot

Are there any graphics cards that i could plug in and use under win7-64bit?
20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 64-BIT M$ Version? on: February 23, 2011, 01:29:42 PM
why not go back to 16-bit programs then?  they are still backwards comparable.

Memory is not that big a deal when new desktops come with 6-8gigs from the factory.

I also see that someone compiled a 64bit version with a different (64bit optimized hash algorithm)

I think we can all agree that an official 64bit option is on the way its just a matter of when
