Rake-free poker sounds like a killer app to me.
142  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Buy / Sell link on main page of on: January 16, 2011, 03:33:36 PM
Trade = buy / sell. I moved the currency exchange section first and made the descriptions a bit clearer.
143  Economy / Economics / Re: A study on Somalia on: January 16, 2011, 10:54:34 AM
Somalia's problems are Islam and the culture of violence that evolved there instead of business culture during the government days. Also the foreign armies and the puppet government funded by western countries. But as the report shows, living standards there are now less bad by most measures.

Now that there are more advanced services accepting European bank wires, I don't see the need to restore the old However, I might restore the SMS buying option. It works well for people who just want to get a few coins quickly and buy something small. Competitors are welcome. I recommend ZayPay for a gateway.
145  Economy / Marketplace / Re: MtGox now accepting bank transfers from Europe on: January 12, 2011, 01:45:57 AM
How about GBP? I know it's a stretch, I don't even know how many UKians use BitCoin!
The UK is a member of SEPA so transfers within Europe have the same fees as domestic transfers. The bank may charge something for currency conversion though.

148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yes, the Site and Forum were Down on: January 10, 2011, 11:55:13 PM
Sirius, would you care to create a no-sensitive-data version of backups so everyone can backup it like wikileaks ?

Could be done, but not very high priority. We don't need Wikileaks-grade security measures yet.

151  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Website and software translations on: January 06, 2011, 12:24:23 PM
I made a wiki article for front page translations: You can add new languages there and keep the existing translations updated.
152  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Development process straw-man on: January 06, 2011, 12:56:24 AM
Should we add the github link to front page?
153  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why is using a self-signed SSL certificate... on: January 06, 2011, 12:53:40 AM
Satoshi owns the domain so this is up to him.
154  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: looking for partners on: December 29, 2010, 12:55:36 PM
Why you do not want to have a account in your country for exchange? have an interface for this.

It's better if one person doesn't carry too much responsibility over the Bitcoin economy and community. But if you can't get a foreign bank account otherwise, maybe I can help you or find somebody reliable. I'll send you a PM.
155  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: looking for partners on: December 29, 2010, 12:00:21 PM
For creating foreign account it is need to travel outside my country. I live in the geographical center, take a look at the map - approximately 3500-5000 kilometers to the nearest border, except for Kazakhstan, China or Mongolia.

Unless there is some Russian law prohibiting it, you can open an account by mail:

On you will find a list of required
documents and an account application form under
Accounts in the left-hand menu. When we have
received the required documentation, preferably via
your local bank, and we have processed your
application, we will send you the relevant
agreements, including our terms and conditions, for
you to sign. When we have received the duly
signed documents, your account(s) will become

You can contact Nordea's international banking department in Finland, or maybe the Russian office can also help.
156  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: looking for partners on: December 29, 2010, 11:22:46 AM
I recommend taking a look at what Nordea bank has to offer. Nordea is a Nordic bank which also has offices in Baltic countries and Russia. Foreign corporate customers can open a bank account in Finland or another Scandinavian country. You can get a web login for your bank account. They also have an XML API, but it's rather complex compared to Liberty Reserve or Pecunix.
157  Other / Off-topic / Re: send out your women on: December 24, 2010, 09:41:12 PM
Yes, I realize the forum software says we have a gender ratio of something like 4.7:1.0, but I believe that is because of all the spam accounts that have been created as 'female'.

Good point, I should search for female users when looking for spam accounts to delete Tongue
158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who to ask for permission to use a clip? on: December 24, 2010, 01:28:46 PM
It's no problem. Satoshi expressed his opinion that publicity in any other context would be good, but Wikileaks accepting donations in BTC would bring too much pressure on us at this point.

Thanks for spreading the word. Smiley
159  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Wiki on: December 22, 2010, 02:25:50 PM
MagicalTux, can you add a Russian language version? We could copy some pages from the old wiki.
160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yes, the Site and Forum were Down on: December 21, 2010, 07:42:31 PM
Are you planning to make some public site from which other people (such as myself) could download backups ?

The database backups contain private stuff like password hashes (=passwords), PM's and email addresses, so we can't give them out. Only admins (Satoshi, Gavin, me) have the access.

That mean that the senior develooper can redeploy to a different server with the backups, if neccesary. Right?

Yes. We'll make sure there are always backups available.
