301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: cgminer not mining: Tell me if am i doing something wrong on: June 28, 2013, 01:55:29 PM
I have never mined LTC, but I always see people set thread concurrency.  Maybe try setting that for your card and see if that changes things.  Do a quick google search for the optimal setting for you card, possibly around 8192
302  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Block Erupter with BFGMiner on Ubuntu on: June 28, 2013, 01:50:50 PM
I believe you need some specific Icarus arguments in there and maybe a com argument in there in order to tell BFGMiner that you are using an Icarus device and what com port to use.
303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best way for LTC mining with two cards (5870 and 7850) on: June 28, 2013, 01:37:39 PM
Use either cgminer or bfgminer (or both).  If you use just one, you have to run two different instances with them, and on each disabling the card for that mining session.  At least, thats the word around the interwebs on how to do it.

Hi,

Is it possible to delay the miner autostart after CGWatcher starts?

Cheers.

My question is similar to this.  I just began using CGWatcher 2 days ago on two different systems (one running water cooled 5870 and 5830, the other running a BFL Jalapeno) and have noticed an error with both of them at least once.  I have mine configured to restart the miner if there are no accepted shares within 2 minutes.  However, when it does to restart the miner, it says that it does not get a response from CGMiner.  From the best I can tell, it is trying to restart the program too quickly and the process hasnt cleared all the way out of windows just yet so it fails on the restart.

Is there any way to set this up to either 1) keep trying to restart it? or 2) Set a delay on sending the restart command (i.e. first shut CGMiner down, then wait 30 seconds before restarting)?

Other than that, great utility.  Has helped with the random driver crashes I have been having with my GPU rig.

Try posting your questions in the cgminer thread and maybe koliva or kano can help you with this.

Some pools have this already built in to their operations (like EclipseMC).  If your miner is not connected, it will notify you that it is down.
307  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bfgminer - for Luke-Jr on: June 27, 2013, 02:33:01 PM
Hi,

I am trying to get my ASIC Miner Block Erupters working with bfgminer on Windows XP.
Installed zadig XP verion: check
Installed VCP 32 (ok for XP): check
reboot

tried: BFG 3.1.1
        BFG 3.0.0
        BFG 3.02

keep getting: "not using FTDI autodetect" after bfgminer starts.

Can you please help,

Thanks in advance,

D.

Wait, isnt zadig for switching FTDI drivers to winusb drivers for getting cgminer to see your devices in newer versions, but bfgminer still uses the FTDI drivers?  So if you used zadig to change over your drivers, you took away bfgminer's ability to see it?  I dont know, I didnt have any issues with my jalapeno when I used bfgminer, which is what I was expecting since it was already using the stock FTDI drivers.

Maybe try switching it back, or try using cgminer since you have already switched them.
308  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Can I make scripts that modify cgminer behavior dinamically? on: June 27, 2013, 02:12:28 PM
First off, are you enabling auto-gpu in cgminer?

Secondly, install cgwatcher.  You can set it to monitor cgminer and if it falls below a certain hash rate it will restart it for you.
309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best way to cool down a GPU? on: June 27, 2013, 02:12:20 AM
Do GPUs use the vents in the back of the cards (by all the video output ports) as air intakes or air exhausts?  I am running an open air case with a box fan for cooling. I want to direct my airflow correctly to get maximum cooling and not restrict the way air is supposed to be flowing for cooling the card.

Back is exhaust.  If you have your case open, point the fan directly at the cards as though it was the side panel with a fan on it.  Cool air onto the card, stock fan blows it down over the card to cook, and then goes out the back.
310  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [WTS] 4 BFL Chip Credits on: June 26, 2013, 09:45:11 PM
I know who BFL is, but what are chip credits?

For people who pre-ordered BFL units, they are allowing those users to get discounted rates on the ASIC chips themselves if you want to buy the chips and make your own units.

Thanks. So credits seem to be the only thing that BFL has shipped.

Not at all, Jalapenos for those of use who sat on orders for nearly a year are in hand.  Have had mine for several weeks now, mining happily and getting 5.8Gh/s.

Water cooling.  But hey, thats just me.  Had access to all the parts.  Only thing it cost me was the $10 for the tubing and the $15 for a new case.  Its an old 5830 and 5870, OC'd at 950 and 1000 respectively, 305mh/s and 440mh/s and temps stay around 45.

Thanks very much for the replies guys, I downloaded cgminer earlier and im a bit confused already haha, assume I just need to carefully follow the windows-build.txt file all the way through to get it working?

I will ignore NameCoin for now then but I have been thinking maybe I will be better off trying out LTC over BTC, what do you think as I am only kicking out around 1100 Mhash  Huh
Is that small?

For LTC mining, no, I dont think thats small at all.  But again, never have done it, so dont know, but I see others kicking around similar numbers so I am guessing that is a good place to be and you can mine quite a bit of coins with it.

As for cgminer, plenty of tuts and youtube videos out there on getting started with it.  A little command line know how is needed, but easy to pick up.
314  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best mining Client and NameCoin? on: June 26, 2013, 03:42:40 PM
The advantage on using one program over another is familiarity, support (obviously many many users for cgminer and bfgminer so you can find answers easily), and the amount of tweaking you can do native to the program without having to use 3rd party programs like Trixx or Afterburer.  I have never used or even looked at bitminter so I cant say if it does or not.

As for NMC, unless you are merge mining, where they can be converted over to BTC, dont bother with them.  Only coins really worth mining at present moment are BTC and LTC.  Anything else you are just doing for fun, or with some far off hope that one day it will take off and you will have a cache saved up (like I did with i0coins back in the day. mined a few thousand of those over the course of a week, and sat on them, never lead anywhere).
315  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT mining problem on HD7970 on: June 26, 2013, 02:59:27 PM
The tweaking, I couldnt tell you.  That is something you would have to figure out for your specific card.

As for the webpage not displaying the correct info, the only thing I can I can think of is the api isnt working right.  Try adding:

"api-listen" : true,

Try adding that to your cgminer.conf file and see if that works.  Otherwise, I dont know what to tell you.  As long as its connected and mining I wouldnt worry about that too much.  I never use that page, I just putty into my system and bring up either the cgminer screen, or gpumon to check mine.
316  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT mining problem on HD7970 on: June 26, 2013, 10:58:31 AM
Its a stratum server, have you updated cgminer in bamt?  The old stock cgminer in bamt is not compatible with stratum servers.  You need to updated it to at least version 2.11.4 or higher.
317  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT mining problem on HD7970 on: June 25, 2013, 01:49:42 PM
below your smtp settings, your line should read like this:

cgminer_opts: --config /etc/bamt/cgminer.conf

you are missing the "s" in opts and the "ig" in config, so the syntax was wrong and your conf file wasnt being read.

Sorry, cant help you.  My suggestion is post on the cgminer's thread and either kovilas or kano or someone else will know what to do.
