1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYAN] Nyancoin Core v2.3 Released AuxPow Enabled on: March 18, 2023, 01:24:39 PM
Nyancoin is now KatKoyn.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN][KAT] KatKoyn Core v2.4 Released (Previously Nyancoin) on: March 18, 2023, 01:23:26 PM
[KAT] KatKoyn

KatKoyn is a rebrand of Nyancoin, which has been running continuously on it's own blockchain since January 2014.
All previous Nyancoin transactions, wallets and keys are still valid.

v2.4 is the first KatKoyn branded release.  (11 March 2023)

This release removes rainbow related artwork, and rebrands everything to KatKoyn.
All functionality is identical to the previous v2.3 Nyancoin release.
v2.3 will still function, however it is recommended to upgrade to v2.4 so that the new branding and name is applied.

All existing wallets are still valid, including those on software and paper.

Addresses and private keys are unchanged, everything still works as before.

All that has changed is the name and artwork - nothing else.

Due to filename changes, this is NOT a direct drop-in replacement for v2.3
The previous wallet file, configuration file and blockchain files can be used.
However some changes will be required:

Executables have been renamed, nyancoind to katkoynd, nyancoin-qt.exe to katkoyn-qt.exe and other equivalents.
The config file has changed from nyancoin.conf to katkoyn.conf
The default data directory is now .katkoyn on linux based systems, or similar to AppData\Roaming\KatKoyn on Windows and others.

Suggested upgrade process:
  • Download the new version, or compile from source if required.
  • Stop the old version and wait for it to exit completely.
  • Make at least one backup of wallet.dat, preferably multiple copies to an external storage device (You should be doing this regularly anyway)
  • Remove the old executable, and replace with the new.  Old ones are named nyancoin*, new are katkoyn*
  • Rename the configuration file from nyancoin.conf to katkoyn.conf
  • Rename the folder / directory that contains the data files.  Anything previously named 'nyancoin' is now 'katkoyn'
  • Alternatively if using command line options to set a custom data directory, this can be kept as-is, or you can rename the location and amend the command line to match.
  • Start the executable.  If you have previously used command line options, these will still be valid.

New installations:
  • Download the new version, or compile from source if required.
  • For GUI desktop versions, copy the executable to a suitable location.
  • For katkoynd command line versions, it is recommended to run the executable under it's own user, with the files in a directory for that user.
  • Start the executable, the default data location will be used.
  • Alternatively a custom location can be set using command line options.
  • Wait while the blockchain is downloaded - this will take several hours or more depending on system capabilities.

Approximately 4GB of disk space is required for the blockchain files.  This will increase over time.
For virtual servers, cloud environments and devices such as the Raspberry PI, a minimum of 2GB RAM is suggested.  It may be possible to run it with less, but performance is likely to be poor.

The software uses port 33701 for incoming peer to peer connections.
For the best performance, this port should be opened in your firewall.
For desktop versions this can be done via uPNP, Settings - Options - Network and select the 'map port using uPNP' option.
For command line, you will need to configure any software firewall, upstream firewall or gateway manually to allow incoming connections on 33701.

The software will still work without this - it just means that it will make outgoing connections only.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYAN] Nyancoin Core v2.3 Released on: January 04, 2023, 08:28:59 PM
One week remaining

For anyone who hasn't upgraded to v2.3 yet, the new version will disconnect older version peers starting on 11 January 2023 assuming mining is consistent until then.

Please upgrade before then to ensure you can remain connected to the network.

It's still possible to upgrade after that date, however doing so will mean some disruption and in some cases reindexing your blockchain files.
It's far simpler and faster to upgrade before, as that only involves replacing the binary file.

If you are compiling from source, you can compile the new version while the other is still running, then just stop the old version, replace with the new binary and restart immediately.

Novaexchange has announced they are closing in 30 days from today.

Only a small amount of Nyan on there - but if it's yours, please withdraw it as soon as possible.

If you don't have the Nyancoin software installed, a paper wallet can be quickly created here:

Possibly.  As of now, that status line is the only indication of it, no announcement or anything else.
Further discussion on it already underway here:

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / CRYPTOPIA DELISTING NYANCOIN - Withdraw today on: December 29, 2018, 01:12:11 PM
This is the OLD, ANCIENT thread, new one is here:
However posting this here for anyone who still gets notifications from this one and not the other one.

Nyancoin is being delisted from Cryptopia.
If you have any Nyan there, please withdraw it immediately.  That means today.
Any Nyancoin left on there after 10 January 2019 will be lost.

Even if you think you haven't got any there, please go and check.
Someone(s) still have over 4M Nyan on there as open orders and there could easily be more just sitting there in disused accounts.

1 - Sign in to Cryptopia
2 - Check open orders
3 - Cancel all Nyan orders
4 - Withdraw all of the Nyan balance to the software wallet, or a paper wallet, or another exchange.

Wallets and other info here:
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYAN] NyanCoin - ★★★V1.3 Released!★★★ on: December 13, 2018, 12:27:51 AM
4 week reminder - anyone with Nyan at the Cryptopia exchange needs to withdraw it as soon as possible, last date is 10 January.  Any NYAN not withdrawn by then will be lost.

If you have a Cryptopia account, check it now - cancel any open sell orders for Nyan, and withdraw any balance as soon as possible.

As of this posting, there is still around 5.5 million on open orders and could be a lot more just sitting in people's accounts.

Withdraws can be to the software wallet, a paper wallet or another exchange.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYAN] NyanCoin - ★★★V1.3 Released!★★★ on: November 28, 2018, 09:39:05 PM
the currency is being taken out of cryptopia
It is, so anyone with Nyancoin at cryptopia needs to go there and withdraw all of it.
Trading already closed there so withdraw is the only available option.

You have until 10 January 2019 in theory - withdrawing it much sooner is recommended.  Do it now.

Other exchanges, wallets and so on here:

I am trying to inport a key into the Nyan wallet and the import key function does not work properly. I have done this before on other coins with no problem. Any suggestions?
What isn't working - is there an error message?

Key import is done from the console with:
importprivkey YOURKEYHERE

It has been tested as working, although once started it will take a long time to complete (probably minutes rather than seconds) as the software has to scan the entire blockchain to locate all transactions for the particular key.

Okay I should be asking how can I get the latest wallet to run on Windows 10? The Virus protection keeps blocking it.

This is a common problem with many coins - it is being blocked because it contains mining software, and because some malware also contained such things to use people's computers for mining without their knowledge, anything with that in it gets labelled as a virus, even though it is not.

Older versions will still work, but they have the 'key compromised' message in them.  However that is just a message put there in error, it has no meaning.  Unfortunately once released the message cannot be recalled - which is why the latest version does not support any messages.

Current downloads and anything else are here:

Most of those are not valid.
It's not necessary to specify nodes in that way.

Can it be mined with GPU?
No, that hasn't been possible for years.
It's dedicated mining hardware or nothing.

New version 1.3.1 available which removes the broken alert system:

This prevents the 'URGENT: Alert key compromised, upgrade required' message from being displayed.

The message can be ignored as it is totally meaningless, however it can be annoying particularly with the Windows client.
