1  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Re: Have a suggestion or problem? on: July 27, 2015, 09:38:17 PM
Good Day,
Recently I've signed up for the en.bitcoin.it wiki to improve the quality all around. It's come to my attention that wikipedia uses this mobile frontend extension for the customization and automated link refrerencing and user-agent forwarding for mobile device detection.
I'll be forward with you - this benefits me personally from having the main wiki use a mobile front-end deployment extension, however besides me, I think that other users would appreciate the added ease of use from having a mobile-aware bitcoin wiki.
What is the appropriate process or line of channels that I must go through to have this implemented? If it's a matter of 'how will it be deployed', I am willing to make a proof of concept mobile view wiki on my own hosting (honeybadgerofmoney.com) to determine and document the process of enabling the mobile view extension. Like I said, I do have a vested interest in there being a mobile view enabled for the wiki, but if you or others don't feel that we could try this out, then its not the end of my world or anything. If you're reading this sentence, thanks for your time, I appreciate it!

From a technical perspective this would be pretty easy, if everyone wanted it. Probably for bitcoin wiki, it would just use one domain, instead of wikipedia's multi-domain approach.

For those not familiar, on mobile devices Wikipedia looks like https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page instead of the normal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Another approach to mobile that some people have been trying out, is making the normal vector skin look different for screens with small widths (Like Mobile). Its rather experimental currently, but you can test that approach at http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Main_Page (If on a phone, you might have to select the desktop view at the bottom, or you'll be redirected to the normal mobile site). Mostly it makes some of the top links go away on small widths.

This is now done.

If you encounter any new issues, please let me know.

Just a heads up, that the wiki will be read only for a (hopefully) short period on Thursday probably starting at around 23:00 UTC.

Just an update. The issue with log ins not working if remember me is not checked, should be fixed now. If anyone still encounters any issues with logging in, please let me know.

Briefly, before the log in issue was fixed, I had set the remember me status to default to true (ie The checkbox started out in a checked state). Since I believe the issue is now fixed, the checkbox is back to defaulting false.

Just to keep everyone in the loop:

I've updated the wiki to MediaWiki 1.24.2. I don't believe there are any new issues, but if you encounter any please tell me.

Newer versions of MediaWiki include bitcoin: as a default URL protocol (Guess that means bitcoin is making an impact in the world Smiley . However that interfered with the Project namespace (The bitcoin namespace). I've renamed the namespace to be "Bitcoin Wiki". The old namespace name will still work in urls and redirects, however in links you have to use either [[Bitcoin Wiki:Page name]] or [[Project:Page name]].  All existing links have been fixed (except for old links trying to demonstrate the issue) I also took the liberty of having the name of the wiki match that, as there was a couple places where having bitcoin as the full name of the wiki didn't make sense (in my opinion). E.g. "Bitcoin is made by people like you" vs "Bitcoin wiki is made by people like you" ).

There are still issues with logging in without "remember me" checked (I hope to address this soon), and CryptoPayment is still flaky.

Hello Everyone.

I wanted to introduce myself. I'm bawolff (aka Brian). I was recently hired to help with the technical maintenance of the bitcoin wiki. I hope to make the wiki a better place for everyone who contributes to it.
