Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not use USB sticks for long term storage! Its not safe!

Didn't know until now that USB sticks could become useless altogether after years on inactivity. Is this also applicable to the sticks which are produced in the last few years? I have yet to back up my wallet in any USBs so this is a great piece of advice that I just came across with, for future reference.
Magnetism wear off after a while and the media it is stored on also deteriorate after a few years. If you plug it in and leave it for a while, the magnetism will increase and it will last longer. Just use a offline computer when you doing this, or your data stored on the device could become infected or even collected by a hacker. In any way, this is how it was explained to me. I hope the guy was not pulling this out of his ass. ^smile^ Data in USBs and SSDs are not stored using magnetism, they are rather, stored in tiny computer chips. This is also the main reason why most of them are very durable. However, a potential problem about USB and SSD is the limited read and write life which isn't an issue with low usage. The quality of the SSD or USB is important as it is directly related to the data retention of the media.

Any wallet where I don't have to download the whole blockchain?
SPV wallets like Electrum, MultiBit don't download the entire Blockchain, just the block headers. This means that they do not verify the whole block but follows the longest chain that it can find. It presents a problem since it trust the miners and it was affected in the 4th July fork. However, this is a minor issue since most miners have stopped SPV mining.

Online shopping usually requires the user to wait for a few confirmations which is quite annoying for sure. Paypal offers buyers protection which would protect you from the event that the goods ordered wasn't delivered. It does charge a higher fee however. If the merchant is trusted and accept both, I would go with Bitcoin, if not, it's PayPal for me.

Ah, you got me here and made me read the whole thing and found no trick.. Nice joke man Hahaha yep, wasted my time reading and I don't think there's a trick there. The only purpose of his post that I can see is to promote his referral link. actually he already removed his reff link from the link.. so that is incorrect regards. -Katerniko1 Yep he removed the ref link but I still believe this thread was created to promote his ref link. He removed it because it's against the forum rules.
