1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: December 18, 2016, 05:28:48 PM
Haven't been on the board in a while and get back to see all the good stuff I've been missing.  Shocked

Definitely interested in 2 of the 2Pac for now.

The pod will have to wait for some cash (which might be in time for the Bitfury chipped ones), and hopefully get a S1/2/3 upgrade also.

Headed to the 2pac sales thread now.  Grin

Right another little update.

I followed this link and its directions:-

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=103046

I omitted the bitmaintech cgminer for CK's real version (not the gecko version either). Also having thought about the fact that my tv went blank and it almost coincided with when cgminer was stopping I followed another raspi forum post about adding a screensaver "sudo apt-get install xscreensaver" from which it adds a menu option on the gui to change or disable the screensaver/blanking. So far after 30mins its still running *crosses fingers*.

All I need to know now is how to get back in and change the freq if I want to. Do I just go back into "sudo nano /etc/rc.local" and change the settings?

Thank you for the advice and support by the way. I would've lost my patience with it long before now if I hadn't been on this forum and been able to get help  Grin

Yes, just edit the /etc/rc.local file, but the change would need a reboot to take affect.

Sorry I did have a username I just took it out for a bit of security but now I see it was a bit pointless lol

So from what you have seen an I doing it right? Also I still can't get back to look at cgminer. Screen works on there as I typed "screen -list" and it gave me four. One attached and three detached but I could not look at the attached one, only the detached ones. Couldn't close any of them down either.

As you can tell I'm a bit out of my depth here. I just want cgminer to run my rboxs, not switch off and be able to check on it every so often  Embarrassed

I'm still learning screen myself, so not to helpful.

Try screen -d -r <name> (what ever screen -list says is attached) should detach it and then reattach to it.

When your looking at/attached to a screen, hit "ctrl-a" then "d" to detach from that screen.

Lot's of other help http://aperiodic.net/screen/start

Well it was working. Its just all stopped saying:-

But it was running fine. Heres the details I used:-

sudo ./cgminer -o eu1.bitminter.com:3333  -u -p x -o stratum+tcp://de.ckpool.org:3333  -u 1KtSAhMTrkD5chmxWp8wWwuEJsAssQXZgK_gekko -p x --compac-freq 225 --rock-freq 220

Might be because of no user name on bitminter pool?

But then with the no privilege to access error, did you sudo cp 01-cgminer.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/ (from within the cgminer_gekko dir) and sudo usermod -G plugdev -a whoami (whoami = your user name you setup on the pi) after you built/made cgminer? Didn't see those steps from either of the 2 links above, unless I over looked them.
8  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Raspian & cgminer on: June 06, 2016, 04:07:30 AM
Hi guys,

Just wondering if there is any way to get a cgminer icon on the desktop of raspian or at least a .bat file so you can start cgminer without having to putty in.

Or can you have a terminal open on the pi desktop with it running so I can just switch the source input on my tv and see the stats?

Also if I close the putty session from my laptop, cgminer is still running on the pi. How do I get back to see the cgminer stats through putty as when I open it up again it goes back to the login page.

Thanks.

First get screen, sudo apt-get install screen (I don't remember, but don't think screen is installed in raspbian).

Then edit the /etc/rc.local file and add before exit 0 line: (this will start cgminer whenever the pi boots/reboots.)
(going from the gekko support thread, you want to run gekko and rbox)
cd /home/pi/cgminer-gekko-rev2 (pi = what ever user-name you set up)
screen -dmS cgminer sudo ./cgminer -o yourpoolinfo -u userinfo --compac-freq XXX (and your rbox stuff (if both will run on 1 instance of cgminer)
(if both will not run on 1 cgminer add second instance)
screen -dmS cgminer sudo ./cgminer -o yourpoolinfo -u userinfo --(rbox comands)

Then in putty or a terminal window on desktop
sudo screen -x (if it's just one instance of cgminer, it will show).

If you have to do 2 instances of cgminer, with sudo cgminer -x, you'll get 2 lines like 324.cgminer, 435.cgminer. Then just sudo screen -r 324, control a, then d will disconnect from that screen, sudo screen -r 435 to open the other.

Better yet just open 2 terminal windows or 2 putty's and sudo screen -r 435 in 1, sudo screen 324 in 1, and look at both).

Like Kano said, it all depends on setup. There's probably dozens of ways to do it.

Got the new voltage regulator circuit board today and hooked it up. Set it at 5v and now the gekko is getting 4.89v from the Y cable. Now happily running at 310m after a couple of plug/unplugs  Smiley
Congrats, sounds good Smiley!
Can you share some pics of your setup?

andY

I would but it seems to have thrown its toys out of the pram and now struggles to stay at 275m.  Has anyone had better luck with it running off a raspi? Im considering getting one so I don't have my laptop on all the time. The only other mining gear I have is an old R-Box 100ghs. The raspi could do both I assume aslong as its got the externally powered hub for the gecko?

Mine have been running on a Pi 2-B since the first batch went on sale. Only played around with different PSU and hubs.

Only thing I do now is reboot the Pi about once a week and update it (which it's about time to do now).
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: May 26, 2016, 12:50:08 PM

I've seen some people mention here USB Y-Splitters (something like this?) If I plugged the power side into say a 2.1amp phone charger, and the data side into a USB hub, would that work to supply the power needed and allow for running at the 350MHz range? Or do I need to make other modifications to allow the Y-Splitter to work?

If the powered hub is not restricted per port, yes that would.

That's why a lot of people including me are using the superbpag 5V/14W hub Smiley

So if I got the superbpag hub, would I need a splitter or will that hub provide enough power all on its own?

They make a couple different ones, this is the one thats 70W 14A http://www.amazon.com/Superbpag-Portable-Charger-Transfer-Samsung/dp/B013OK10YM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464263368&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=70+watt+usb+hub&psc=1

As for Y-cable, it all depends on how hard you want to push the sticks. If you want to stay around 200-300MHz with 2 sticks, hub wouldn't break a sweat, want to go for ~400MHz, use Y-cables.

Also, watch the cables, some are way to cheaply made (to small of gauge wire used), they could get very hot...
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: May 24, 2016, 12:36:31 PM
I want to play around with overclocking and see what can be done, as well as understand some more about amps/watts/volts.

I have the following hub: Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub

I also got the following 5v-4A wall-wart: Sabrent 5V 4A 100V-240V to DC Power Adapter

If it matters, this is all plugged into a raspberrypi.

With a single compac plugged in to the hub, and the potentiometer at about 9-oclock (0.74v?), I've run at 350MHz for about 7 days. I haven't tried going any higher yet. I've got a fan blowing on it, and things seem ok. Haven't wanted to try and push it more just yet.

With two compacs plugged into the hub, and the potentiometer at about 9-oclock (0.74v?) for one and 0.77v for the other, I can't run any higher than 250MHz, or else one of the compacs starts hashing, but after a few seconds goes zombie. Then it starts again, and shortly after goes zombie. I've tried 300 and 275, but no luck.

I'm assuming my issue is power to the compacs, and that the hub I have just can't keep up. What would be the best way to confirm this? I don't have any other hubs, and I don't know that I want to spend $35 on a superbrag (i've seen it mentioned here multiple times) right now until I can fully rule out my hub as the drag.

Looking at this from your link to the hub "For a stable connection, the devices connected to the 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub must not exceed a combined current of 5 volts 900 mAh."

So not good on the power front.

And looking at some of the 1 star reviews, I'm actually kind of surprised the Pi is working with it. A few reviews mention fans and other stuff running inside of computer's, after the computer is shut down and hub is still connect (back feeding power from hub, which Pi's don't like).

Edit: something like this, is what sidehack is talking about.

13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: May 04, 2016, 03:37:12 AM
If you've got a volt meter, measure the voltages on the testpads on the back. Measure the core voltage when it's first plugged in, and then when cgminer tries to start mining with it, and see if it changes. That'll let you know whether it's an ASIC issue or a power issue.

So I used my volt meter on the good stick, and got a reading. So I knew I was doing things right. I plugged in the "bad" stick, green light comes on. Check with volt meter shows 0. Start up cgminer. Still shows 0. Let cgminer do its thing, and try to hotplug. Still shows 0. Test the volt meter against my good stick, and I get readings.

So does this mean the asic is bad? Or maybe something blew? Like I said, all was good until I did a reboot of my PI the other day. Now only one stick is good.

Anything else I can try and test to see if I can diagnose it?

When you checked, did you plug the no reading 1, it into a different slot on the hub or into the same slot as the stick that you got readings on? If it was in the same slot, that would rule out something in the hub going out.
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: May 01, 2016, 12:17:41 PM

its your hub.. at 200M you are right at the .9A most hubs can put out..
try going down to 196.88

Sorry, I should have mentioned. Now that I am troubleshooting, I'm running at 125mhz, just to se if it'll perk up. Doesn't matter, on the hub or direct connected to A PC, it just want start hashing.

The other unit runs fine, at 200 MHz still. Both were running for weeks with no issues until the reboot.

Try plugging the one in after cgminer is running (hot plugging it).

I might move a gekko or 2 over here.

If your using a Pi, install screen as above and then just edit the /etc/rc.local file and add before "exit 0" line

cd /home/pi/cgminer-gekko-rev2 (pi will be what ever user name you set up and same for cgminer, it will be what ever version your using)
sleep 6s (just to give pi more time to be fully booted before starting cgminer)
screen -dmS cgminer sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://POOL:3333 -u ADDRESS.G1 --usb :1 --compac-freq (what ever you want) --widescreen --worktime -o stratum+tcp://BACKUPPOOL:3333 -u ADDRESS.G1
sleep 6s
screen -dmS cgminer sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://POOL:3333 -u ADDRESS.G2 --usb :1 --compac-freq (what ever you want) --widescreen --worktime -o stratum+tcp://BACKUPPOOL:3333 -u ADDRESS.G2
As many times as you want, I don't know if there is a limit to where it will start messing with the pi or not?

The pi will start to mine as soon as it is booted or reboots from a power outage (as long as you don't have to cycle the power on your hub after a power outage).

Then use putty to connect to the pi and screen to see cgminer/s.

I'm mining a week @Johhny Bravo's but still no payout; can anyone recommand a pool for a smaller hashrate (90GH/s) or would you go solo?
I am a huge fan of supporting the smaller pools, especially with my little usb "dust farm".  I used to point it to kano.is when that pool was less than 3PH, but it grew to where I no longer received payouts so I switched my usb dusters to bitminter.  It does merged mining, which there are opinions on, but it is a very old and reputable pool at at <4PH I still see payouts from my usb miners.  For my S5 and Avalon6 I use them on cksolo, or Bravo, or BCMonster.

So check around on Johny Bravo's and see if there is a minimum payout setting or ask in the pool's support page.
Bravo does have a minimum payout, but with only 90GH it'll probably take a couple blocks for you to get above it.  Bravo and BCMonster are small pools so they do not find blocks as often as larger pools, but what is kinda cool is that even though they are PPLNS the round lasts for basically 1 block solve, so you'll get paid for all shares submitted.

i put mine on peercoin solo.. i figure i have a better chance of getting a block on that coin then i do on bitcoin.

On JB I have now:
0.00154751999999999993

BTC Est. Earnings

But I will only get this when a block is found?

Compacs are running 250 MHz, heatsink is quite hot, they run on the USB 3.0 bus. Should see with USB doctor how much current they draw now.. (av 13.5 GH/S)
