61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LIGHTNING NETWORK - what is happening, dead, stagnant? on: May 04, 2020, 06:47:28 PM
Most people yet don't know what Lightning Network is till now. Couple of days ago, I had started a discussion topic on one of our local facebook group on Lightning Network. Almost 90% of the people seems to be never heard about Lightning Network while some other who have heard about Lightning Network but don't have any idea what it is. Without implementation in common wallets like Electrum, LN will not be known to the public. Once Electrum implement it, things will be different.

someone above said electrum did implement?
62  Economy / Goods / openbazaar and any other market place? on: May 03, 2020, 05:58:24 PM
two topics here:
1. I have been using openbazaar quite some time now, it has markedly improved over the year but still seems not very wildly popular. Some interface seems not intuitive but not hard either, pretty stable. It is no match for ebay where it offers full fledged features but ebya teams up with paypal and paypal is cocksucker.
My biggest grip over openbazaar is not being able to import one profile into another. It seems you can still get the openbazaar wallet's 12 word security key and import into other wallets but not otherway around? (Has anyone differs from me on this one?). There seems no way to create login and use it credentials to login from multiple computers? As a result, I ended up having several accounts on each of my laptop, desktop etc.,
Selection of itesm on the openbazaar seems somewhat limited of course given the popular but not too terribly either.

2. Is there alternative marketplace? Darknet? I am not interested in at all any illegal stuff like the ones happened back in year where it was selling weeds and other stuff etc,m not interested in it, but being able to buy sell on openmarketplace a legitimate item using crypto seems really in demand.

Share ur opinions pls.
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / LIGHTNING NETWORK - what is happening, dead, stagnant? on: May 02, 2020, 07:56:20 AM
I looked at statistics, the usage went up around last half 2019 then tapered off. looks like not that terrribly popular although not died.
IT seems stagnated. Are there benefits starting to weigh in?
I wonder if major wallets are supporting or starting to support LN?
64  Economy / Speculation / what is causing sharp freefall? on: March 13, 2020, 12:19:40 AM
along with djia sp500 nasdaq, normally crypto should go up sharply as save haven but not this time!! What is happening??? I had few holdings and about 33% of peak when it has surpassed 10k$!!
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH going ETH2.0, any news for ETC? on: February 10, 2020, 11:20:35 PM
AMD RX 400 and 500 are dead.  I don't think a lot of people mine eth with Nvidia cards.
AAMOF, i do

Some crazy bastards i know have ONLY mined ETH from day one with their Nvidia cards. Years now
i have a buddy i just saw last week that does that, such is his choice.
Its arguable that if he held to a nice ATH then sold, he definitely made a killer profit. And didnt have to jump around like us "active" miners
As his rig has also been hands free for years now, he literally forgets its in his basement for months on end
(its so covered in dust idk how it even runs anymore lol, you cant even tell what cards are in it (their EVGA1070's))

@OP. i agree with Adaseb, i wouldnt worry too much right NOW as ETH tends to never make deadlines Tongue
Mining is centralized mostly now between low power cost locations, and FPGAs
Once ETH goes PoS, the 3 million(?) cards needing something else to mine will Tsunami all PoW coins, ETC included
willl this crush them?or pump some of them? only time will tell! Smiley

Yes i think there is going to be some flooding effect. At least for now ETH difficulty has crashed to around 2T now, not sure what happened but good news. I also see ETC difficulty took similar path:

67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / ETH going ETH2.0, any news for ETC? on: February 09, 2020, 07:11:30 PM
I just heard sometimes during 2020 (likely mid-2020), eth2.0 is going for POS from POW. That means, my mining with gpu will be busted. Although there are couple of gpu minable coin aavailable from whattomine, I am thinking to switch to ETC. Is anything heard from ETC of switching to PoS. My understand is that ETC has much lesser market share and support, thus less resource considering immense technical challenge of going PoS. So the only possibility of ETC, if it has any chance of POS, is ETC hitch a ride by borrowing the technology from ETH. Any input?
68  Other / Off-topic / Re: GPU rental on: October 20, 2019, 10:28:06 PM
start offering rendering services man.

Where??
I am studying vulkan API and OpenCL programming and can do basic stuff, how to load GPU programs into GPU to execute. This way, I can at least get to know the basics.

i also posted similar post, although specifically tailored for AI ML usage.
Jbitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5192465.new#new.

I am all ears as I have 20+ GPU sitting around.

I have taken a look at both vectordash and vast.ai but so for both have turned out a little disappoing. The cost of upgrading the host to meet the requirements outweigh any potential income.

yES, I am eyeing for these, obbiously they are not popular and established business. But I am going to try anyways.
What MB u got?
I got H81 BTC PRO, it is piece of crap motherboard, does not boot reliably without user intervention but I got stock with it. Its spec says socket 1150 which supports up to possibly 4th gen core i3/5/7.
Those seems to support AVX2 instruction.

I have about still 20+ GPUs left after crypto bust after managed to sell some. With better cards coming out, the chances of selling the rest is getting increasingly slim. I wanna find some other usage than cryptomining.

Has anyone explored this path? One thing I am really interested is in GPU rental for AI machine learning. I think there could be some usage.
It appears there are some businesses that enables to do but it does not seem widespread. Nevertheless I would like to explore.

Here is one example site. https://vast.ai/hosting/?fbclid=IwAR3OD2_a3ck9lcuMMCfxXg3RLKroD2VTZ3Wva1yjc2-tZj3KHVHjJbQu680
I have found several more but I did not pursue being some time ago.

The problem with my current system is that the mining boards I have is H81 BTC PRO with older Intel CPU that does not support AVX instructions. I am thinking about what I can do upgrade to motherboard + cpu combination that supports AVX (AI ML) as well as being able to accomodate 4-8 GPUs on single board.

72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / what is overall state of alt coin mining status? on: August 26, 2019, 05:06:00 AM
I have been disengaged for some time except I had few miners mining eth. I used to mine zcash but difficulty has increased drasticaly. Most problem was ASIC miner bitmain has been centralizing the altcoin mining. From what I know bitmain itself is in deep trouble nowadays. Is difficulty increasing or decreasing nowadays?
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newer AMD AND NVIDIA cards vs. GTX1080 on: June 24, 2019, 02:28:12 AM
I am trying to sell several of the GTX1080 purchased a year ago aroud range of 350-400$. Do you think these justify these prices? Newer AMD XT5700 and RTX2070 are out, I am not sure those are better mining alternatives than GTX1080? Do i expect gtx1080s to go lower in values in coming months? Thanks.,
Remember there was a lot of news even make a comparison if the top series of NAVI will be at the same tier with radeon VII (less efficient compared with VII) and as so many news and rumour explained about the 5k series will be some percent better compared with RTX series.
if the price of RX series will be very ergonomic and then that will make the NVIDIA series go to the lower value.
did not quite understood. are you mentioning effiency in regards to cryptomining or gaming?

75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how to sell or buy monacoin in USA on: June 01, 2019, 10:26:43 PM
Wow, it looks like the monacoins decided to blow up and launch straight into space) x6 for such a short period, oh my, and the turnover of trading is just crazy. Ehhh if I had earlier paid attention to this coin ... Author, look at the stock exchange where there are not big turns, maybe there you can sell coins.

yup, only problem is can not sell. I am going to assume that soon it is going to drop like a rock.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how to sell or buy monacoin in USA on: June 01, 2019, 08:22:25 PM
I mined couple of MONACOIN earlier last year. Now monacoin went up crazy, I wanna sell it before it falls down. The few exchanges available and listed on coinmarketcap, bitbank, upbit and bittrex etc.,
I had difficulty with bittrex, upbit appears korean based and does not list USA in the registration. I think bitbank.cc is japanese based and also had difficulty registering. Oh god how I am supposed to transact my monacoin?
I think if you need it urgenly, because this time Mona is going crazy, you can find some escrow services, where they have a verified Bittrex account to sell Mona for you (or contact anyone you know). Because I know it's very difficult to verify accounts on Bittrex and it usually takes a few days, and its volume is quite good for you to sell a large amount.

that is what i was thinking. Anyone in bay area? I am in North San Jose. Thanks.,

Hi. What difficulty had with bittrex? If you can't sell the coins pm me with your contact to see if i can somehow help you.

2fa is not working. For restoration, they ask 3 pieces government issued ID as well as me holding a picture in each of them. That is too much invasion of privacy considereing there is no guarantee bittrex (or any other exchanges herein) can hold my information in a safe manner. thx.,

OK. I understand. Did you try Zaif exchange or also they ask kyc?

zaif exchange registration page:

At this time, we are temporarily restricting the creation of new accounts. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / overall state of gpu mining anyone active? on: April 25, 2019, 11:28:38 PM
I am getting rid of about 10-14 GPU mostly gtx1080s ROG STRIXs as my venture all flopped causing huge loss in rentals and electricity. I am getting rid of them at about 350-400$ a piece on online auction. I bought in the range of about 450-800$. Haha. Any chance it could go up?

Here is my thoughts
Downtrend factors in price are:
- RTXs are out that offer more power although not too much powerful with gimmicks i.e. AI tensor which does not really offer much adv. in terms of mining as well as ray tracing. So as far as GPU mining concerned,  GTX-s will be favourite.
-Down the road, more and more powerful GPU will come out, reducing the GTX lines even further irrelevant.

Uptrends:
- Sooner or latter excess inventory is going to dry out. May cause some lift in prices.
- Some coins (eth) appears to have difficulty substantially reduced some coins (zcash) has difficulty went up so much GPU mining probably will not make sense. I am not sure of overall trends of popular coins and how it is favoring the GPU-s. I am aware eth and other coins will eventually transition to POS mining from POW making it further irrelevant.

With all those factors combined, should I get rid of them ASAP? Or hold it in hopes of gathering some value? I also sort of interested in doing AI, tensorflow, caffe deep learning rental my GPUs but there is no infrastructure as it is mostly done in enterprise servers not through gaming. I did hear about some vendors offering cloud like deep learning rental of GPU-s.

Thanks.
