Hey all  - sorry I don't get onto this forum much and haven't been around a lot of late.

I've set up a fresh Telegram group, MAZAtribe(I'm not a Slack fan) so we can have a real chat happen
MAZAtribe Telegram

Please join us!

Peter - thanks for sending some funds into the premine address! I've not had a chance to read through all the latest posts here, but I will shortly.

Nothing has changed with regard to the premine addresses - we have full control of the one address (owl has the privkey)
and no control in the moment over the other address (privkey is encrypted and we do not have a password). All the funds
we expect to be there are accounted for. To recover the encrypted address will take some work, but it's certainly possible.

There are several possible scenarios, each of which will require a hard fork.
Because those coins were premined (or donated to the same address) and do not belong to any individual
or group other than the network as a whole, I feel like we can use an extra-ordinary measure (hardfork), and finally put the
concerns that people have about the premined coins to rest. I would suggest that these are not simply recovered and moved
to a new p2pkh address, but be put to use for the network as a whole in another way.

I have some further plans, and a good lot of documents to share with y'all over time, I'll be doing this over in the Telegram group.

Right now it'd be helpful if we could find a few folks who'd like to help with some web development projects/marketing, and
we very much need to find a few qualified coin developers. I'm mostly a systems architect, and have been doing the release management
for maza-qt and some other projects for maza. There's a lot that needs updating before we can move much further forward.

I'm happy to answer questions anytime on Telegram, but do prefer that we can have most of those in the open group.

Regarding the bittrex delisting: Those guys never responded to us at all. It's unclear why they delisted us, but I think overall it's for the best
Volume on Cryptopia has been steadily picking up for both MAZA and their whole market. With some development work that's visible, I think there's
a good chance of getting onto a few more exchanges - don't expect poloniex or bittrex listings anytime soon! I also think that the network needs to
take the matter of interchain exchange into its own domain - so that people & contracts & code don't need to rely on custodial exchanges to
move their MAZA in and out of other chains.

My own life has been a bit of a hectic struggle through the past year, largely scraping by with little to no cash (and trying hard to not sell any MAZA unnecessarily), so it's been difficult
to find the time, network, and physical space to get any real dev work done of any sort. I am currently away from my home in Mt Shasta, California, and have very crappy 3G-4G service
most everywhere I've been. I expect to be back at home around the end of August.

If you've been following me on Twitter https://twitter.com/guruvan you've seen that I've taken a very active stance on Bitcoin scaling issues. Because MAZA is a sha256-pow coin, the development path of Bitcoin is very crucial to our own. We must either integrate with, or differentiate from our big sibling. There are several "common" paths that coins have been taking all of which we can explore, and there are some much more uncommon possibilities I've been working on. I'm inclined to think that a mixture is best for the longer term health of the network.

If you've read my Twitter feed, you're also sure to know that I'm not a fan of SegWit, and have limited attraction to Lightning. There are, in my own opinion many more
ways that a network can grow than to simply increase transaction throughput on a blockchain. There is no good reason at this time to radically alter the mazacoin base protocol. We do know
about scaling issues that are likely to catch up to the current mazachain, but we know better ways to use it as well. I've put a great deal of time into scalable designs, and
would be delighted to discuss those with a team that can execute on them.

There is a clear fact that absolutely must be addressed before MAZA can proceed - MAZA is not secure by any measure. The current blockchain network is sha256-pow, and therefore it necessarily competes with Bitcoin for hashpower. This competition means that the network is 100% always at risk, and cannot be secured fully by this hashpower alone. There are several approaches to take, but most leave the network still exposed to large amounts of rentable hashrate. One example here is merged-mining. The largest of mergemined sha256 coins, namecoin, has a significant share of the bitcoin hashrate. While namecoin is largely secured, the same effect isn't seen in other merge-mined sha256 coins - UNO, CRW (Crown) included. CRW has typically around 16PH/s when I last checked, while UNO was around 5-8PH/S - Antpool alone is sporting 1300PH/s, and available hash on rentals is over 150PH/s. This means it's very unlikely to secure the network by mergedmining alone.

I've fielded several questions about MAZA converting to an ERC20 token on ETH or another EVM. I understand the reasoning for this, and while I think that could provide some immediate relief to current bagholders investors Wink I don't think that it leaves a long term value proposition. That said, I think that smart contract based tokens, and the ethereum platforms in general are important to MAZA's success.

The low price of maza has definitely concentrated a good deal of it into just a few hands. This necessarily affect how we can, and must proceed forward. Perhaps the best example is to consider the idea that MAZA convert to a PoS consensus mechanism. It's clear form the behavior of so very many peercoin-protocol and NXT protocol PoS coins that the concentration of coins in just those few hands will lead us into a race to the bottom in the market, and leave us in no better situation for network security than the current mining situation. There are valid functions that can utilize PoS, albeit in a much larger overall network design than just a simple Satoshi Transaction Processor (bitcoin protocol blockchain).

I'm also firm in the knowledge of the value that Proof-of-Work mining brings to the network. The value of the hardware investment brought to the network is a very concrete measure of the value of the network itself. When we look at the development in Bitcoin, Litecoin, DASH, Siacoin, and others, we can see that it's not just the actual mining hardware itself that does this. Over the course of the years, we've seen the development of ASIC technology, which has lead to the biggest miners needing to produce their own chips. That, combined with the lack of chip fabrication facilities worldwide has lead to those ASIC manufacturers having to build their own ASIC plants. As competition narrows margins in mining, those miners need to look for new advantages, and this will necessarily lead to new hardware & facilities investments. We can easily expect that power generation facilities are in the minds of the top miners, and manufacturers. Each of these makes the network much more secure.

Unfortunately, because MAZA shares hashpower with Bitcoin, this investment in hardware & facilities is not an investment in the maza network, nor does MAZA derive any other type of value-benefit from this. Other options must be explored. While a PoW change is one possible path, the level of expertise required to develop a new mining algorithm plus the level of capital required to develop new ASIC technology, and produce ASICs for it is very significant. I do think there are other approaches that we can take to bring some of that hard investment value to the MAZA network directly, but to address those would take more space than we have here.

So, if you are able to help with

Communications & Marketing
Community leadership
Web Development
Code maintenance
Code development
smart contract development
Protocol development
Legal counsel
Business development
Tribal relations

We would very much like to see you become involved.

The current website is on github https://github.com/mazacoin/mazacoin.org
You can see in the library https://github.com/mazacoin that we have several projects and need people who can work in
C/C++, Java, Javascript, Python, go. We also will need rust development expertise.

It's very important that we assemble a team that is able to execute on our ideas as we develop them.
Competition in crypto is severe, ideas are easy, execution is hard.
Before I discuss too much of my own work, I need to see that we have this ability.
My own skill is not in development of code - for any of the ideas I have to bear fruit, I will need to work with more skilled people.

Its important as we move forward that we bring the network back to serve those people it was intended to serve, and fulfill Payu's original vision,
while not unnecessarily limiting ourselves to just the ideas it was created upon. The entire market has matured significantly since the Mazacoin Genesis Block,
and so now must MAZA in order to succeed.

If we're to expect Oglala Lakota SiouxTribe, or ANY other North American tribes to work with MAZA, we must provide them with the inroads to do so. Simply put, asking a tribe to buy some MZC on the exchange is not the path to success. We need to provide them the inroads to put value in, as well as derive utility from the MAZA network. This cannot be done while the majority of the circulating supply of MZC is in just a few hands.

This brings me to the current investors baghodlers & miners, of which I am one (though by no means am I a majority hodler, nor sadly am I able to mine today Tongue )
In order for MAZA to succeed, the coin needs to become more widely distributed, and by more rapid means than the limited trading markets will allow. In my own opinion, the network has a responsibility to you, the baghodler, and especially miners who've become hodlers. You need to make a fair profit on those coins you've been holding for, likely, some time. You need also to understand that part of the network is YOU. You need to provide value to the network to get value out - simply acquiring coin at the lowest price the market will bear isn't sufficient. We need your participation to move forward. You need to help you decide how you're going to get your value and ROI from MAZA. MAZA is, after all, an autonomous organization - it only works if we all work on it.

MAZA is not a corporation - MAZA does not have a foundation. There is no entity that can steer it but itself. If MAZA wants to remain autonomous,
it must not find itself under the control of either a corporation or a foundation, nor may it become one. To do so, it must build itself the capabilities needed to
develop and maintain itself, and fund that work.

With all this in mind, I'd like to encourage you to join us on Telegram, and bring your friends.
We need a large team if we're going to succeed in a world that includes Bitcoin, Dash, Tezos, Ethereum, EOS, LTC.
We've got a lotta work to do if we want MAZA to be the success that we all know it can be.

 - Rob

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / September 23, 2014 on: September 23, 2014, 04:54:14 PM
We were pretty busy last week, so we skipped a weekly report. Much has happened in the past 2 weeks!

We moved our website to it’s new home, and updated it! You can now find important news, downloads, meet the dev team, and more from our site. There’s a Site & Services directory, please feel free to drop us a comment there if you have additions or subtractions from the Directory

The old site was briefly compromised by unknown attackers. In what seemed to be a non-directed attack, the mazacoin.org site was defaced and data was erased from the server it resided on. We presume that attackers gained entry via an old email account, either allowing a password reset, or containing a cleartext password. In all, 129K maza were lost to attackers. All data had recent backups, and was restored. This attack came on the very day we moved into our new site. The new site experienced a brief period of DDoS. The team has since moved all mail and other service off the server that was attacked, and we’ve gone through to ensure each account is protected by 2FA. Additional security measures have been put in place. It should not need to be said, but of course, the mazacoin network was not affected in any way, nor were our source code repositories.

Mazacoin has been added to several exchanges recently! You can now trade MZC against BTC, LTC, and DOGE on many exchanges, and mazacoin will continue to be available on MintPal and Cryptsy.

Cryptsy Wallet is down!! The Mazacoin wallet (and approximately 20 other wallets have been offline at Cryptsy for maintenance for a few days. It’s unknown when Cryptsy will restore deposit/withdrawal services.

The subject of the premine has come up in several contacts this past week. At this time, the Dev Team currently controls wallets with approximately 14.4M and 17.3M maza. Of the 17.3M, approximately 16.8M were from the original premine, and an additional 500k has been donated (primarily by mazaclub). Currently, owlhooter (lead dev) controls the 17.3M wallet, and Payu & Rob each have a copy of the 14.4M wallet. At this time, the 14.4M wallet is encrypted, and the password is misplaced. We assure you that none of these coins will be moved without the Dev Team announcing the movement. As we know development has begun on CoPay, we anticipate moving these funds to multisignature wallets as soon as this is available. Finally, it is not clear what the original amount of the premine actually was. Announcements were made of 2 phases of 25M maza each. Unfortunately, the mazachain doesn’t tell this same story. It doesn’t appear that 100% of the announced premine was actually premined (or sent to the correct wallet). We would like to perform a more proper accounting of all these transactions. If you can, or know of someone who can, perform extensive blockchain analysis, please contact the dev team (contact@mazacoin.org)

Mazacore has been released!!! Mazacore is a mazacoin fork of BitPay’s bitcore library. Get yours at https://github/com/mazacoin/mazacore – This library supports other excellent opensource products from bitpay, like their insight block explorer, and insight-API.. This library also supports CoPay, BitPay’s multisignature wallet solution. We expect to see announcements soon from multiple developers using these products.

We have opened a new Developer’s account with the Android Play Store at Google, and are in the final stage of putting the current android wallet into the Play Store. We hope to see this live by this time next week.

Mashable has released their documentary on Mazacoin. While the dev team was disappointed that Mashable chose to focus only on Payu & Pine Ridge, rather than ALL of mazacoin, its community, and the real goals of supporting inter-tribal trade & tribal sovereignty, we do note that the documentary has been generally well received by the public, and has stimulated significant interest in mazacoin.

As a result of the documentary, the dev team has been contacted by several different developers, service providers, and manufacturers. Because mazacoin is such a special coin, with a mission (not a cause), we find supporters of a very different breed than most. Most of our phone conversations include discussions of stewardship, spirituality, and how mazacoin can promote a return to lifestyles more in harmony with each other and the Earth. People believe in the power of mazacoin to become a major force.

As always: Mazacoin needs YOU to grow! We are always in need of more development talent. We need Javascript (nodejs), Java/android, C++, HTML/CSS, and python coders, sysadmins & DevOps professionals, graphic designers, and much more. How can you plug in? You can Join us on #mazacoin & #mazacoin-dev on freenode, submit pull requests to our github repositories, offer accounting or legal services to the team, help extend our social media communications.

not exactly "doxxed" if one pseudonym suggests that it's other name is another pseudonym.

@CommanderXanon may well be Anonymous Pirate, but It's not clear there's any evidence at all that @CommanderXanon on twitter is "CommanderX"

Hey Pit, it's a great idea, but not something the Dev Team is going to pursue directly. This is not something that will be in the mazacoin-qt wallet. It would be a questionable legality in many jurisdictions, and it's a commercial enterprise. Development of mazacoin is a collaboration between private enterprise, public groups, and individuals. It would be inappropriate for the Dev Team to compete with other stakeholders.

Our job is to provide /reference code/ to make a functional working network. It's someone else's job to use that network to provide sports and casino betting applications that run on that network.

Rather than donating half of what ever, get up yourself, and make it happen. Nothing comes to us if we sit and wait for others to do it for us.

Sitting and waiting for others to do it is as much a problem in the cryptomarket as it is on the rez. Lots of crypto-traders are of a mind that since they're early adopters, they deserve to be able to throw money at a monitor and receive 10X back in a month. The world doesn't go around with people telling others what would be cool. The world makes progress by people getting up and working.

============================
Thanks for the congrats on the website!  It's a major improvement, but we still need to make it really shine! If you'd like to contribute as a writer, or would like to help us make other improvements to the site, please get in touch!

============================

Finally - we're running a little late on a weekly report for you this week, because we've been pushing out some code. We're in process with the Google Play Store to get the Android app up there, and we'll have that on Github this week.

We also have for you "mazacore" - the Dev Team, primarily Kefkius, has ported Bitpay's Bitcore library to mazacoin. With this, you can launch your own Insight block explorer, or make a version of CoPay Multisig wallet for MZC for your site!

More in an upcoming report for y'all!

Want to help mazacoin? Donate your time and your energy. Save your MZC! Come join us on freenode IRC in #mazacoin and #mazacoin-dev

This Week:

  • Our new WordPress website rolls out today! Find links to core mazacoin software, and other projects the dev team is working on, mining information, and links to find mazacoin services. We'll have all the freshest news, these Weekly Reports, and soon to come, a road map for future mazacoin development. We need more contributors!
  • New code release: Always, it is the case that projects take longer than expected. We're working hard to not just bring mazacoin up to date with current bitcoin code, but also best practices. We'll be producing gitian builds with this release.
  • We're also finishing up work on mazacore - a mazacoin port of bitpay's bitcore. This will allow mazacoin service providers to use Insight (block explorer & API) and CoPay!! We're committed to bringing the mazatribe simple multisig capabilities.
  • We're also finishing up work on mazacoinj. We don't have an expected release date for this yet.
  • This week we'll have a few additions to our github repos: paper-wallet generator (with BIP38 encrypted privkeys) and the android wallet source.
  • The Dev Team has been using Skype for communications for some time. We are moving those communications to a more public venue: IRC You can catch us on freenode in #mazacoin or, if you're a developer, please join us in #mazacoin-dev. We will soon have #mazacoin-dev logged for reference.

It's been an exciting week. We're still keeping out eye out for the Mashable documentary - make sure you catch that!!

Weekly Report posted for the mazatribe!

And...A highlight: Mazacoin and Payu Harris are the subjects of upcoming documentary from Bianca Consunji and Evan Engel of Mashable.com!! Preview was held in NYC this past Monday evening, and we're expecting it to be out by October sometime!
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / August 26, 2014 on: August 26, 2014, 06:50:28 PM
Busy week, with much more than coding development.

Mazacoin codebase update is progressing well, but is taking a bit longer. Work is underway to separate mazacoin diversions from bitcoin-core code to improve future merges.

Paper wallet generator is nearly complete! We need to add some design work, and do a final review. This will be added to the Mazacoin github repository by this time next week.

Hashrate has been steadily increasing, with significantly higher averages and minimums, consistently remaining above 10Th/s, last 2 days avg about 15Th/s with spikes above 20TH/s

We have been investigating the state of the premine, and have sent this information to attorney. This is the first step in getting the Mazacoin Development Foundation set up. The Foundation will control the premined coins. The Dev Team is in direct possession of 31m+ of the premine, and is investigating the disposition of the balance, as well as what the actual original balance was (and should have been). Once the Foundation is fully operational, we will issue a statement about the premine and how it will be handled.

We have received requests from reporters, researchers, and other coin developers for assistance in understanding how cryptocurrency relates to, and can improve the opportunities for indigenous peoples.

A mazacoin documentary, featuring Payu Harris, previewed in NYC last night at the Bitcoin Center NYC. produced by Bianca Consunji & Evan Engel of Mashable! We look forward to seeing the completed work!

They may not be mining, but there are some Oglala investors who have been buying mazacoin, they aren't all poor.   With the new block rewards, the price is fairly stable even with a low amount of trades on the exchanges.  However, it is still a long term investment as it will take quite a while for the development team to implement its proposals.  This is something new so its success is not guaranteed.  keep this in mind should you choose to purchase mazacoin.  Also, I'm sure guruvan would appreciate any assistance that would speed up this process.

Thanks Raek!

It does take a long time to coordinate and implement every aspect of what will make mazacoin successful. traders often feel (much like miners) that crypto is "instant-in-and-win" - somehow magically just producing 10X returns on gambles.

And, of course, not every Oglala is poor. Just like not every Californian is rich. In every group, we have rich, poor, and more. In even the most oppressed and disadvantaged groups we find people who find ways to break out of the cycles around them, and succeed, despite the odds being stacked against them. Our team needs to find more ways to reach these people and help them build on their success with mazacoin. This is what takes the most time - finding and reaching the people! (it's what's taken the most time in developing bitcoin)

The Mazacoin project is getting much more notice in the world than is evident here on Bitcontalk. While crypto-traders are easily shepherded from one coin to another, and leave coins to "die" - the rest of the world doesn't notice all of the new coins-of-the-day. They notice the coins that are making a difference. Mazacoin is recognized as THE leader in bringing indigenous people and cryptocurrencies together, and we're spending more time fielding questions from media, other coin projects, and other indigenous groups around the world, every day.

It takes much more than just the Development Team to make all this happen. It takes the entire mazatribe to work together. How can each of you help?
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MZC] MazaCoin *National Currency of the Traditional Lakota Nation* | NEW THREAD on: August 26, 2014, 02:51:46 PM
did this get revived or something?

Revived is an interesting word. It implies that mazacoin was dead at some point. No. But, the Team needed to transition from Anonymous Pirate leading it to the current team you see, and the Tribes (in particular the Oglala) needed some time to absorb and comprehend more about mazacoin before Mazacoin receives more mainstream press so that they're more able to handle the amount of energy coming at them from the crypto-sphere.

We now feel freer to pour some more fuel on the fire, and see what mazacoin is really capable of doing Smiley

Lol. I contacted him regarding PoD for the mazacoin team. He certainly asked for nothing ..I let him know we weren't in any rush, and he's not completed his analysis for us yet, bit I certainly don't expect to be asked for any kind of bribe.

Ridiculous. Noons posting about scams.

I'm not sure you've thought about the costs and noise associated with cheap space heaters.

When I compare the amount of heat generated by an antminer S1, drawing under 500W, and the about provided by a quiet alternative, an oil radiator, at 1500W....A great many of the space heaters you'll see used in economically disadvantaged homes are ancient radiant heaters that consume 1500W constantly, and are loud as hell. The miner puts out many many more BTUs per hr per watt. I do not have the specific data, but I can assure you it takes less wattage to heat our homes.

If you consider the amount of $ spent to heat the home, you'll see that the mining gear need not be "profitable" to achieve a net gain for all the parties involved. It only needs to come to a near break-even point to be successful in my own eyes. If you're trying to achieve ROI in a space heater, I believe that you're not trying to solve the correct problem. Remember, you're a miner trying to make a profit mining.

the problem to solve, truly is to heat a home in a financially more efficient way. If there's a reduction of the home users' power bill because the miner recoups some of the cost of generating heat by generating coin, is that not the actual ROI?

Finally, you must also consider, this is but one method of repurposing older gear. There are many more that I'm currently aware of. We are not limited to single ideas on how to improve the network while improving people's lives. Nor are we limited by the short-sightedness of unrealistic expectations of instantaneous ROI that is so prevalent in the cryptomarketplace. Instant ROI simply isn't real in the long term, and is currently a function of novelty and adoption rate. The idea that you can buy miners today, and profit tomorrow is fading quickly. Please note the endless series of scams, scamcoins, and so on that point to frustration with the length of time that it takes to achieve ROI mining. In most businesses it takes 2-3yrs to start realizing a profit. Miners expect a profit in 60days. This is not sustainable.

As for "51% abuses" - in reality one need not have 51% of a network to attack it. In practice, the primary "attack" performed against most blockchains is one that even bitcoin is still susceptible to, and that is "selfish mining" - there are various ideas on how to solve that problem, and the Mazacoin Development Team is actively working on the issue. Selfish mining only needs 25% of the network to be effective, and we see this in bitcoin everyday.

It's my opinion that the majority of algorithms in use today have the same issues as sha256. Each has grown, CPU-only coins are GPU, with FPGAs on the way, and soon to follow will be asics for the most profitable algorithms. Certainly mazacoin will need to grow and adapt, but there is not a reason to change the sha256 algorithm to deter attackers, or selfish miners - these problems are present in each algorithm, and each PoW scheme devised at this time. Multi-algorithms simply increase the challenge to would be attackers and selfish miners, but don't solve the fundamental issues.

At this time, no accounted funds appear to be in any jeopardy of being moved without the approval of myself, owlhooter, and Payu. As such,to avoid additional confusion we will move them when we have finished this process. We will finish this process and publish our findings, addresses, and other information as needed, soon. Again, we'd rather not add any confusion to the issue by providing information which is later discovered to be incorrect.

Is there a rich list anywhere?

The dev team doesn't publish a rich list anywhere. Mazacha.in, a product of my own organization, also does not publish such a list.

Mazacoin is here to help close the gap between rich and poor, so it feels inappropriate to spend our energy on finding out who fits into those categories. The data is available to all in the mazachain, and we encourage mazacoin holders and supporters, and related businesses to data-mine the mazachain to find the transactions and addresses that interest them.

Does anyone hold the actual wallet to the pre-mined coins? When will they be distributed to the Lakota Nation?

After Anonymous Pirate left the development team, some of the premined coins were moved. We have accounted for a majority of this amount, and hold the wallets with these coins. There seems to be some confusion who much was actually premined and exactly which addresses it went to. It appears that there are some premined coins that are not accounted for as yet. Since this process is not yet complete, we have not released a full statement yet. Currently Payu, owlhooter, and I are in control of a minimum of 30,000,000 of these premined coins, which definitely represents the majority of the original amount, whatever this amount actually was. It is unknown at this time if Anonymous Pirate retains any keys to amounts we do not have in control. It does not appear that any amount of the premine has made its way to and through an exchange, thus, it appears to be intact.

We are in the process of establishing a legal Foundation and Trust from which to distribute these premined coins. At this time, given the current MZC/BTC market, and lack of convenient MZC/USD markets, we feel it would be inappropriate to distribute these coins in the immediate future. Given past history of settlements, lump sum gifts, and per capita payments in so many tribes, we would like to ensure that this distribution provides more than just a single month's expenses to recipients. We would like to see, instead, mazacoin distributions be used to build an economic base that provides real opportunities to prosper.

We also note that there have been some potentially conflicting statements made in the past regarding the nature of the distribution of the premine: how much to go to people, businesses, and whether it would all go just to the Oglala Lakota Nation. Because of the nature of people, politicians, and governments when faced with financial windfalls, we feel that it's in everyone's best interest to have a properly established Trust, and not begin any sort of distribution until that time. Again, we also feel that because the market price of MZC is currently so low, we should take the time necessary to put the Trust in place, and allow our legal team to assist us in the proper distribution of the coin.

Once we have accounted for all of the premined coins, we will move the entire amounts to multisig. addresses under control of the Trust that is to be created. Once this is complete, we can begin to consider the proper distribution of the coins in a way that will usher in a new era of prosperity through proof of work, and start to end the cycle of poverty through welfare.

My apologies if I've overlooked a relevant post, but are the Lakota mining this coin or just crypto-enthusiasts ?

This isn't quite as simple an issue as one might think. There are 2 questions here. 1) Is the Oglala Lakota Nation mining mazacoin. No. 2) Are any of the Oglala themselves mining. Unfortunately, again, no. But let's take a look at the real reasons.

For any type of government to become directly involved in the daily creation and distribution of a currency, there are many issues that need to be addressed. Legislation needs to be drafted, laws need to be enacted, and regulations need to be put into place. As you can imagine, this is no small task. The Mazacoin Development Team is in the process of building a legal team that will assist in all these matters. As we progress, we will see what the direct involvement of the Oglala Lakota Nation is with mazacoin.

We have to ask....what should that direct involvement be? How much do you want to see the direct involvement of any government in bitcoin? We feel the matter must be approached carefully to avoid outcomes like the one we may see developing in The State of New York.

We think it's much better if a cryptocurrency that is truly intended to effect change is a decentralized service provided by the community, and not one that is under any sort of control by a government. We do intend to form a council in such a way that tribal governments, who will become stakeholders, have some voice in the mazacoin, but they cannot be the only voice, or we will perpetuate and move problems that exist today.

Now, that brings us to the more important question (IMO). Are there any Oglala mining themselves. As of right now, unfortunately that answer is no again. This is primarily a function of money. Mining is not a poor man's game. Most of the Oglala are poor, and it's not an option for them to run out, buy some bitcoin, risk it on pre-ordered asics, and maybe be able to mine mazacoin. Even if this were possible, mining mazacoin is an investment in the future.

But, this does bring us to one of the important design considerations in mazacoin. Maza is a sha256 coin, and as such, it's design it to help older mining gear find new, profitable homes as it becomes to small to mine bitcoin in a meaningful way. We're starting to see the first generation of sha256 asics become much less profitable now. My own team is likely to repurpose our own 55nm gear as home heating units. We believe there are ways that we can use this shift in the mining market to put more gear on the reservations. Of course, this will take time to secure gear, and put distribution in place. We want to ensure that this is not any kind of a handout, but provides real skill building opportunities. The mazacoin development team is committed to putting mazacoin into the hands and control of the people it serves.

We also need to consider, in the specific case of the Oglala Lakota, reservations are often large, remote, and under-served by public utilities. Telecommunications and power can be less than ideal in many homes and businesses, and this definitely increases the challenges we see in bringing mining, and cryptocurrency in general, to the average reservation. Again, the Mazacoin Development Team is committed to finding solutions that bring cryptocurrency within the reach of even the most remote villages. We believe this is necessary even the the proper adoption of bitcoin, worldwide, and we intend to be leaders in making crypto serve every tribe. This is what is needed to make real change happen in this world. While mazacoin was created with the Oglala Lakota as our first Tribal Partner, we do not intend to stop there. We intend to make mazacoin the currency that supports bootstrapping a new inter-tribal economy.

We are committed to doing everything necessary to make this happen.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which token should Hive support next? on: August 19, 2014, 07:38:01 PM
How many of you guys have dev teams that could add the necessary support to Hive?

If you have a blockchain-style API and a decent JavaScript programmer at your disposal, you should be able to knock out support for this in a day. Then we'll make it pretty and merge it all back in.

https://github.com/hivewallet/hive-js

hive-js is the backbone of Hive Web, Hive iOS and some other forthcoming platforms, so if support exists there, we can get it onto mobile devices.

blockchain style api is not a problem - which pieces do we need? just their simple query api, or do you need the Data API?

We'll set our JS devs on hive-js right away. Smiley

Thanks y'all!
