701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Soil (SOIL) - Fair Launch, No premine, based on Ethereum on: September 27, 2015, 11:52:03 AM
the question everyone want to ask is when is launch at least giving a rough estimate weeks ? months ?
years ?
[/quote

good question

we are working on the main net, and we should have an announcement this week, id think. i realize everyone is chomping at the bit. one question regarding launch, our idea is for a weekend launch, something close to 6pm or so GMT, which averages out the launch time to mid morning for north america, early evening for europe. (sorry asia, very inconvenient for you, but trying to accomodate the majority of users here) does that sort of schedule work well for the majority? which is better, saturday or sunday? we will, naturally, give enough notice so that it is indeed a fair launch. im guesstimating that we will likely launch in two weeks. that being said, what is the appropriate timespan for notice? i was hoping to have at least one weeks notice for the launch window. is that too long? too short? bear in mind that the launch will also be announced on other cryptoforums, which will be brand new [ANN]s and those fine other folks will probably maybe never heard of SOIL. i was thinking a weeks notice so that we can fully get those online exchanges ducks in a row and have everything scheduled to go live at the same time. i appreciate all your input. have a wonderful sunday, wherever you all are.

our website, basic as it is, is UP! I will work on it to improve its presentation as time allows, but just wanted to make sure we had an official presence on the web to share our vision, and to answer any questions folks might have. If there are more questions need answering in the FAQ section, please let me know and ill include those. you can surf on over to http://soilcoin.weebly.com/ to have a look.

Sorry, I just spotted this nice project. Is it still on testnet, and is there any info on launch time ?

we are still running the testnet and ironing out the inherent bugs before launching. we havent set a firm launch date but will make sure that when it is, there will be ample notice for all and a countdown timer will be added to the OP as well as our social media outlets. the website should be ready for tonite sometime. in the meantime, we are asking those who mine on the testnet to provide us with their wallets there so that we can provide some bounty towards the work theyve done there, as well as bounties to those who have been hosting nodes on the testnet. we are hoping to get as many people involved with this project, now and in the future as we launch and begin assembling am advisory board and having voting rights for the stakeholders in those future evolutions to the platform. hope to see you involved, and welcome to the soil-community!

is the maxminers pool even working? i connected yesterday, was according to the pool stats, the only person in the pool, managed to "find solution" on MANY (while i was watching it, over a dozen) blocks, had it running in the background while i was out for about 4 hours.. it shows over 460 shares on my part, but i have ZERO earnings whatsoever. it shows the last block found on the pool was 5 days ago, but the solutions i found were supposedly sent in to the pool.. is maxminers a trusted pool or are they scammers?

Strange that the icon image doesn't show up on the OP...

Will there be a real-time block explorer ready before release and a website?

Poloniex is the best exchange to target and probably the only one needed.

there will be a website up by tomorrow. it WOULDVE been up yesterday but i have a five year old who likes clicking the mouse. 'nuff said. (laughs) and i was THIS CLOSE to being finished, too. i have search and rescue duties this evening so, itll have to wait until tomorrow.

im looking into a block explorer presently, and will endeavour to make sure its up and running for the  main net launch. i think thats one of the most important aspects of transparency for any cryptocurrency. we will also make any "community reserve" account public and will be keeping an up-to-date ledger of it on this discussion page when we launch. it will show what debits and credits are transacted with it (i plan on donating half my mining rewards back to the community account to ensure liquidity and enable faucets to remain stocked.) and will include WHY there was said debit or credit. like i said, transparency. trust in the cryptocurrency world is hard to come by, and when you lose that, you lose your community. ive watched other coins with less altruistic motives or less than communicative responses to questions regarding reserves, etc. go from viable to dead in a heartbeat.

the icon SHOULD be on the OP, but unfortunately i cant edit it myself. it is prominent on our facebook group and twitter page though. personally, i LOVE the icon. i think its clean, simple and recognizable. ive been using it as my avatar on cryptopia for a week now.

Before we get the main-net up and running on launch, we would like to know how you fine folks have found the mining on the test-net. Our developer would also appreciate it if you would post your test-net addresses if youve mined any SOIL on the test-net, as we are going to offer a bounty on launch related to that activity on the test-net. In other words, those "test-SOIL" you have mined arent all in vain! Its a small way to thank you folks for helping test the platform, and while I cant comment on what the bounty will be for the test-net mining, the bounty will a the very least be a significant percentage of what test-SOIL you minted on the test-net. We couldnt have come THIS far without your help.

How did you find the time required to solomine a block? The number of blocks beyond that in order to confirm? I know every altcoin has a targeted block time, but what is targeted and what *IS* are generally very different things.

Last evening I did some pool mining and solo mining on one of the other ETH-platform based cryptocurrencies, which has a targeted block time of 60 seconds and there were many blocks that were ten-fifteen minutes of processing before a block was found, even with the pool at suprnova running. Im not sure if they have other pools or not, and there were only 43 workers on the pool itself, so im not sure if that is indicative of why blocktimes were so lengthy, but its something im genuinely curious about. The difficulty is, with dagger hashimoto algorhythms, naturally high, but can that begin to act as a deterrent to mining?

707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Soil (SOIL) - Fair Launch, No premine, based on Ethereum on: September 23, 2015, 10:23:37 PM
We are aware that everyone wants a launch date set as soon as possible. soil, our developer, wants to get this out and available as soon as possible, but also wants to have a smooth roll-out and is working at eliminating any bugs that are found before we have the main-net set up. In the meantime, we are setting bounty rates, finalizing the block time/difficulty/reward numbers and getting the website set up. I thank you all for your patience, and promise that as soon as we set a date, the countdown on the OP will be set, and with enough foretime set that everyone will have ample time to set up their miners and be ready to go as soon as we launch. We dont want to rush this, and then be scrambling to correct errors that crop up after the launch. Like a fine wine, a good cryptocurrency should not be uncorked before its time. This is meant to be a fair launch with everyone having an equal oppurtunity, both with assisting in defining the reward schedule of the coin itself and in being able to start mining of the main net as soon as we are launched, with at least one, but hopefully two or three exchanges ready for us immediately.

that being said, what exchanges would you folks like us to get SOIL listed on? bleutrade is pretty much a lock right now, theyre just waiting for our launch date to be set, but will be open for trading as soon as we launch. ive looked into cryptopia and will be adding us to their "coin inclusion" voting, and have written poloniex as well, waiting on their reply. what other exchanges do you folks use? where would you like to see SOIL listed? id like very much to have those set up to be ready for launch.

thank you for your time and patience.

Are you the community manager, because you seem to be giving more info than the dev and what ever is posted on the OP? If you are, you should have some thing similar posted in the OP? By what you are saying, SOIL will use DAPPS for agricultural/farming usages?
[/quote]

i have come on board as the community manager, and will be working to help market SOIL to the specific industry ive outlined in the post above. i became very excited by ethereum when it first came out BECAUSE of its possibilities, and when i became involved with SOIL it was after speaking to the developer and coming to the conclusion that he isnt in this for a quick in and out sort of coin, that he wants to build something long lasting. using his vision of the elements, as it were, (fire, water, air and SOIL) i found that we could make a very sustainable business plan to work towards using those DAPPS in a targeted way. ethereum will be a great platform for programmers and DAPP developers of all stripes, but in that, it lacks cohesion, it lacks a vision other than to toss as many applications on the blockchain as it can. now, there are some fanstastic applications that are being prepared to go on the ethereum platform.

auger will change decision making in many markets using an analysis of global and consumer perceptions. "slockit" can make focused and small rental agreements an efficient thing, as does "airlock". "provenance" will make it easier for us, the consumer, to know EXACTLY where our products come from, each small part of it. and more will doubtlessly be added that will be innovative and wonderful.

with SOIL, i think we can focus the attainable power of the DAPP platforms and bring this technology to sectors that, at this point, have little understanding of it, but once its potential is begun to be understood, will need a trusted network to place their applications on, one without downtime, fraud, or third party interference. the "internet of things" is just a pretty collection of words until you start to look at where things are going and the further interconnectness we will have with the ethereum-platform based blockchains.

by focussing on the agricultural and ecological market, SOIL can tap into a quickly transforming sector of the economy, and probably the MOST important part of any economy. first and foremost, we all need to eat. we all need what farms and ranches and mines produce. that they are doing so in a more automated fashion, but with centralized servers controlling that, which can lead to the risks of downtime, server failure and the like. a system is only as strong as its foundation. by offering a "globally executed virtual machine" with cryptographic protection, and decentralized protocols, we can be at the forefront of this technological revolution, and we can build a brand name amongst that industry as the trusted place to have those applications run.

the OP has been updated with some of this vision presented, i spent a few days crafting something that would resonate and at the same time show where we plan to innovate, to outline a further business plan beyond the simple idea of a conceptive monetary system. ethereum, and thus SOIL, is so much more than just "money" of some sort. and we are standing on the cusp of that realization. to grab a specific market share, the automation of agricultural practices, one that has projections to be worth more than 16 billion by the end of the decade, gives this project a focus and relevance.

beyond simple ag-market automation, we can focus on other ecological industries that, as everything else in todays world, require an integrated communicative network. alternative energy resources can be focused upon, photovoltaics, even petroleum exploration can be served by the SOIL network. i have been communicating this vision as best as i can over the past week, building upon the business plan and vision that can make SOIL something much more than just a coin you trade at the exchanges. peter, our lead software developer is doing what he does best, innovating on the base ethereum platform, and i will be working on marketing that platform, bringing in smart contracts. to get there, we need to build the foundation first. to build the secure blockchain as a foundation for those applications the market hasnt even realized it needs yet. thats what innovation IS. build something that everyone will need before they know they need it. and they WILL need it, and they will build upon the platform because, at the end of the day, it will provide a secure, always-running, decentralized location that they can trust to run the programs. and it will save them money against the bottom line, overall. and to a business mind, while innovation is wonderful, it is only useful if it provides that security and if it provides them a savings in the accounting ledger books.

SOIL will be using DAPPS to help power the automation of the agricultural industry, and mining and ecology. SOIL will bring real world applications to the cryptoworld, making both stronger. its a HUGE vision. but one that is VERY attainable at this early stage of this innovative platform. will we see, say, John Deere, or Eyking Eggs onboard the SOIL platform inthe next month. of course not. we have to have the platform secure and ready for them first. will we have them onboard in teh next year? yes, and many more. focus right now is on getting this coin to market, to launching the blockchain and proving its stability and security. the focus is on building the brand and making it THE BEST ALTERNATIVE for that industry, one that understands where their innovations are progressing to and will cater to those needs for smart contracts that will run their automation without them having to worry about it. this is not a two month life cycle altcoin model. this is a multiyear plan to bring about change in both our cryptocurrency world and in the agribusiness world, marrying the two. this is what makes SOIL innovative, and IMPORTANT. this is why i signed on, have given .. oh.. sixty hours in the last week alone working on the social media presence of the project as well as formulating the business plan that will make SOIL relevant in a market already glutted with digital tender. this is why we want you to spend your money, and BTC and doge and litecoins on SOIL when it comes to market, this is why we want you to hold it and become members of our community, voting on the evolution of the platform, and benefitting when the realization of this vision comes to pass.

think of this as a crowdfunding in a way. we ask you to invest in our platform which will become stronger because of it, and which will innovate an entire sector of industry by providing them with something they havent even realized they need, yet. oh, they know they need something like this, they just arent fullly cognizant that its here, NOW. this is why we want the stakeholders of SOIL to have a voice in the evolution of the platform. this is crowdfunding but that you receive something of value immediately. you receive SOIL, thru mining, purchasing them on the exchanges, or thru bounty programs. and by becoming a part of this community, you become part of something larger than all of us put together.

to have success, one must have vision and imagination. we ask you to trust in our system. we ask you to invest in our currency when it becomes available. and we ask you to become involved when we begin the consensus driven aspect of the project, where your stake in this coin becomes your voice in the future. i believe in this project, or else i wouldnt have come on board and given my time to it. (as well as countless cups of coffee) we have a vision, and a focused plan that will create great things, but we must do so much as the lead developer has done, patiently and properly.

we will launch very soon. you will all be made aware of the launch date well before it happens and a countdown clock will be added to the OP reflecting that as soon as that date is set in stone. this will be a fair launch on what peter calls "a virgin blockchain" and everyone that is prepared to become involved from the genesis of this project will see that investment mean something. currency, especially cryptocurrency, is only worth as much as the aggregate consensus agrees it is worth. this project is about more than currency. its about the future. which is what the dream of bitcoin was supposed to be in the first place. its just now time to reclaim that.
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Soil (SOIL) - Fair Launch, No premine, based on Ethereum on: September 22, 2015, 02:43:33 PM
I received a PM from a community manager or something. I still echo the statements others have brought up, and was provided no information in said PM.

1) What purpose or target audience is this for? How does/will it differ from Ethereum? Initial develoment seemed limited to little more than:

Code:
find ./ -type f -exec sed -i -e 's/ethereum/soil/g' {} \;

as with ethereum, the speculative currency is as important was the ability to drop the autonomou and decentraized applications on top of the blockchain, using the coin as the fuel to pay for the use of those applications, and having the mining of the blockchian be the verification process to ensure stability. the difference is that unlike ethereum, which seems content enough that you CAN drpo code on the blockchain and walk away content that it will continue to run seamlessly, with no real open plan as to WHAT applications those might be (which leaves things open to malicious code, and if hackers can take advantage of something they WILL), with SOIL, the marketing of the smart contracts will be industry sector driven, focused. keeping with the name, thus the branding of SOIL, we can focus those contrats on the ecology sector... auotomated farming processes.. as i mentioned in an earlier post.. dairy farms, poultry farms, unmanned tractors and intelligent crop data. these are generally completely centralized to the farms personal servers itself and are thus vulnerable to hardware failure of the computer, etc. by offering them a global network of computers to keep their applications running brings stablility and safety. it affects their bottom line, if theres a failure on their system, they can face massive losses and downtime. SOIL can bridge that gap between the real world and the cryptocurrency world. with a focussed market, it also builds a brand name, and a recognition that if you want safety for your data, with the assurance your data remains YOUR data, you drop it into SOIL and stop worrying about it.

my family has a large hatchery in alberta. pretty much everything is automated nowadays. the computer that ran the program that set parameters for the incubators crashed last year, dropping the temperature in the incubators (it was february) and freezing solid something close to a hundred thousand eggs. being a meat farm, and considering the general attrition rates after sexing and mortality, that was the loss of about 40,000 market hens. it cost them a little over 120,000 in potential revenue, all because something on the motherboard on the computer in the house went kerflooey. (my fathers technical term) a lot of other systems were affected by this and it took him newarly a week to get it all sorted out and started up again, and because its a choreographed process, he wound up being two to three months behind and it took him well into fall to catch up.

set on SOIL, those applications that monitored the incubator would not have had the same likelyhood of failure. thats the real world application of the system, and most farmers out there wouldnt have a clue what the ethereum (or SOIL) platform *IS* never mind cryptocurrency as a whole. they just care about keeping things running seamlessly and if we can offer a better chance to keep that going, those applications can be built on the chain to ensure that. the world of modern agriculture is HIGHLY automated, and while hardware failure might account for 10% of overall losses in a year, all told, that 10% represents a large cash loss overall.

this marketing aspect is important, but its until we hae a stable and confirmed blockchain that we can start setting those applications on it. the fact that the code is large for the running of these programs is irrelevant. "Auger", the shiny baby that will be the example of the potentialities of ethereum, is pretty large too.

2) Lower block times increase the likelihood of double-spends and orphaned blocks.

i read thru vitaliks ideas about that which were linked to in a post somewhere above. where he was essentially looking at the difference between BTCs and ETHs block times and how each would be affected by orphans, uncles and double-spending attacks. a larger block time for a system like SOIL wouldnt be bad because its less about market transactoins (buying a pack of bubblegum) than it is about runing the smart contracts to ensure stability. the only downside with longer block times seems to be that the potential miners have to wait a little longer to ensure their block rewards comes to them. theres got to be a happy medium, and thats why the lead developer here has been asking for community input.

a longer blocktime reduces the minting of the coins, but not by that much, but keeps the defaltionary aspect of the currency in check. so, whats the happy medium?

Quote
3) Premines and IPO's are overdone and unecessary. No serious developer wants to be paid in an untested currency.

that can be looked at from both sides. a massive premine or crowdfunding breeds distrust amongst the community. still, bounties must be
paid, for evolution of the system by outside developers, for those that help set up essential services for the currency (faucets, foreign language translations, etc). and with no premine or reserve, where do those bounties come from? those funds have to come from somewhere.

on your second point, i think if you believe in the project and are only receiving funds paid in what currency you are building, it makes a developer work harder to make sure that the front end of things is running smoothly, that the underlying system is built as flawlessly as possible. this is especially true when you arent taking out a massive payment from a reserve for the work you have done that can be just dumped on the market. with ethereum, for instance, ive looked onoine trying to find the ammount each was paid in the currency for their work and cant find it anywhere. here, the lead developer has publically stated what bounty the core development team will be looking at, and ive already stated that those wallet addresses should be made public for investigation thru the blockchain explorer to ensure that those coins are not being dumped willy nilly on the market. i think that counts as transparency.

if you do a slap-dash job, what you get paid in is worthless, and youve wasted your time. if you do an exemplary job and the project succeeds because of that, then you gain financially by that beyond intial expectations. being paid in the currency you create, your reward stands by the work you have done. both software and marketing. slack off on either and you have just another altcoin in a cryptoworld glutted with vanity coins and scamcoins that developers use to make quick money and then walk away from. if you are INVESTED in your own project, and are serious about its long term success, then you do a better job, and the rewards are greater. but, i think that counts for ANY scenario, really. just the way i was raised.

the entire thing is a tightrope, do you have a hard-capped currency that switches to PoS at a later date? how quickly or slowly do you have the minting process run? too quick and you have a market flooded, like ETH (and its current 73million minted coins, with which they are only NOW talking about the possibility of a hard cap), which quickly loses its luster and traders (investors) walk away from it. too slow (i.e. low block rewards and long blocktime) and you have no interest in mining it,or hosting nodes, etc; but with scarcity breeds value and coin-life expectancy as well. a lot of it is finding out WHAT the market wants, and what it doesnt and then finding a happy medium.

710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Soil (SOIL) - Fair Launch, No premine, based on Ethereum on: September 22, 2015, 02:45:09 AM
Wow! too much ethereum forks now. Why would someone leave the real true project and go with its forks - if not for
pump and dump only. lol

ETH is a great coin, theres a great vision, but.. too many cooks spoil the broth. i think they have great vision, but i think we have a relevancy with SOIL. the application rich blockchain is going to make the difference, and with SOIL id like to work with target marketing, bring on board those automated and centralized processes from a certain spectrum of the market (the ecological sector) and build a BRAND not just a coin. for something to be successful there has to be a vision, not just another altcoin to toss on the glutted market, you have to do something that matters, and with the realworld possibilities of projects like ethereum and SOIL, i think its going to change a lot of the ways we look at computing.

im newish to the cryptoworld, relatively speaking, but ive been reading up on tons of coins as they launch, and what growing pains they experience, what challenges they face, and SOIL is the first coin ive ever gotten behind and gotten completely involved with. the lead developer has a metric (censored)-ton of talent and vision to where the innovations can take us with regards to the front end software, and i can see a lot of potential to where we can go with things BEYOND that.

this is a long-term project. just as ETH is releasing its package in stages (frontier-->homestead-->metropolis-->serenity) that could take a few years to fully implement, we're looking at SOIL in a similar light. there WILL be evolution, there will be a challenge to the mainstream platform. this isnt about pump and dump, its not about releasing a coin and walking away from it, its about realizing the potentialities of the blockchain and DApps. its about bringing that to parts of industry completely unconnected to the cryptocurrency world, making those automated processes more efficient, more stable, more secure. and in teh end, for the end-user of those applications, cheaper.

its about forging something long lasting. ive watched Expanse (with an 11,000,000 upfronted community reserve, which in their [ANN] post is termed as "small") but i dont SEE a clear cut vision. its PRETTY. it is community driven (like SOILs consensus controlled evolutionary development) and ive watched Shift, whose [ANN] doesnt really tell us what its FOR, what it REPRESENTS. and i think thats the difference with SOIL. theres a vision for the future, its community minded, and democratic much like EXP and SHF, but at the heart of the matter, its the applications on the blockchain that will make this something the perseveres. THATS why you leave the "real true project" and go with its forks, specifically, you go with THIS fork! we're working tirelessly and (personally very caffeine fueled) to find what works for the community, to build a storng and loyal userbase and build somthing better. and looking to the future, to next year, to two years down the road...

Voting is fine, but to make an educated choice one should at least read what Vitalik has to say about it:

https://blog.ethereum.org/2015/09/14/on-slow-and-fast-block-times/

Thanks for the article jjjordan! Fascinating reading even at 2AM. Definitely something to chew over. Hopefully we can specifics on blocktime, block mining rewards, etc in the next few days. Working on an updated OP presently. No sleep for the caffeine fueled....
712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Soil (SOIL) - Fair Launch, No premine, based on Ethereum on: September 20, 2015, 11:00:16 PM

ok Thanks... need to find that v4 (found it) and check. Cpu mining working just testing my 3 of 4 cores and all is fine. No block yet tho...

[/quote]

it took me a long time to find a block, too. even with a brand new computer with quad-core and a radeon r5 graphics card, i cant normally find a block of ANYTHING. ive had my soil instances running on my computer for an hour right now, and havent found one. yesterday, i found two in the first five minutes. i dont have a mining rig, cant afford one just now (ive got a five year old with a yen for hockey thats eating away at my budget) and once we launch, ill probably just mine on the suprnova pool. ive been mining SHF and EXP there and making enough to make me content.

Ok finally found problem on windows. There was some winsock problems.
gsoil is running, wallet working...

now, how to test gpu mining?

im running win 10, so unsure how this would work on win7, but in the V4 package, there should be a "start_gpu_mining.bat" in the main directory. start gsoil up first, let it load up to the line that starts out with "modules:" and then launch the gpu mining .bat file. you can start your cpu mining in gsoil concurrently with "miner.start(#)" in the console, with # being the number of threads you want to work with (as far as i understand it, and remember im less than technically savvy) the number of threads is the same as the number of processors your CPU possesses. i have a quad core processor so i usually put a 4 in there. experiment with it a bit. hope that helps.
714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Soil (SOIL) - Fair Launch, No premine, based on Ethereum on: September 20, 2015, 10:14:55 PM

Can you please address my issue with running both Ethereum and Soil on the same Windows machine?
[/quote]

ill try out the situation this evening and see what i can do. as far as i know, you can mine ethereum, and thus soil, with two instances concurrently, both CPU with the geth (or gsoil) applicatoin and gpu mining with the ethminer software. it conceivably should work ining ETH with one instance, and SOIL with the other. both central programs would need to be running (geth and gsoil) but id think youd be able to CPU mine on one while GPU ming the other coin with ethminer. like i said, ill try it tonite and report my findings.

im really not a programmer, by ANY stretch of the imagination, im more an idea guy and outreach sorta fella. i understand the underlying principles behind the ethereum platform that we are building SOIL with, im frankly very excited by the possibilities with where we can take it, which is why i signed up with soil in the first place. i believe in the platform, and i believe in the core developers ability to achieve the vision he began with. im a good marketer, but up unti a few weeks ago, i was growing white hairs on my chest trying to get bfgminer to work for me. (chuckles)

i know that the innovations soil is working on, his GUI wallet and where he wants to take that will change things up and in that i think hes many phases beyond the ethereum team right now. we have the committment to take this thing on for the long term, and we're not premining 800 million coins (i know,i exaggerate the ethereum premine/presale thing) theres a long term vision for SOIL and development will continue long after the initial launch, its an evolutionary process.

anywho, ill let you know what im able to do regarding ETH and SOIL at the same time.
715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Soil (SOIL) - Fair Launch, No premine, based on Ethereum on: September 20, 2015, 03:04:24 AM
benjy: we have not finalized our launch date yet. soil, the lead developer is working hard on getting everything absolutely bug free, and will be releasing the all-in-one windows GUI wallet tomorrow and the download link will be posted here as soon as its ready. im presently working on which exchanges we will be listed on for our launch date. things are progressing quickly. the testnet is up and running presently and so far, it seems to be smooth sailing. even with my single GPU mining, im mining blocks.

the initial pricing has not been determined yet, but again, as soon as we have that it will be posted here. im working on updating the OP for tommorow as well with updated information. thank you for your interest in teh SOIL project and we hope that you will like what you see and get involved. have a wonderful night!

battareus, it cost about an hour of my evening.

i know it was long, and detailed, but i have a lot of faith in this project and where we can bring SOIL. this is more than just about a speculative currency. the wonderful thing about ethereum-network based projects is the operating system built in that can support decentralized and automatic applications. when vitalik speaks on this, in many youtube videos, its difficult to really grasp what hes talking about. with SOIL, we can focus the brand towards a specific market. there are many ecology based simple and automated programs that SOIL can serve with efficiency. the ethereum platform, and thus - the SOIL platform, creates a virtual network of unfailing computational power without the need of the end user to worry about running these things on their own server.

lets take an example, poultry farmers automate a great deal of their operations. lets take just ONE of these that the SOIL platform can serve, the hatchery. from temperature control of the incubators, egg and chick weighing machines, "candling" machines, inovo injection and egg vaccination, conveyor driven industrial washers and waste management systems. all of these are now automated in the modern poultry business. all of these are controlled by a centralized server on the farm, which costs the farmer money for power, and runs the persistent risk of server downtime due to viruses, hardware failures, incubator temperature overruns and deficiencies, etc.

by placing the simple automation commands on top of the SOIL network, this gives the farm the security of a vast decentralized and safe network which takes care of these simple commands. there is no downtime because of hardware failures.

keeping with that idea, think of automated crop irrigation systems, milking and pasteurization processes on dairy farms, unmanned tractors, even things like seed company ordering systems (think Veseys Seeds for example) ... the world of ecology based systems is changing at an amazing pace, the automation of farming solves the problems of labour shortages (which run on approximately 71% of modern farms) and failures to complete crop harvesting (which runs about 20%) agricultural systems are more and more running towards an automated solution to this, and by placing these systems on a decentralized network increases the efficiency (and the bottom line).

this goes beyond farming. mining companies have found that using automated systems can save a company up to 80% against labour shortage and related costs while concurrently increasing productivity and safety.

THIS is what the contract aspect of the ethereum (and thus, the SOIL) network is built for. THIS is what will make SOIL a viable and long lasting cryptocurrency. and the SOIL coin will be the fuel that runs those applications, the fee paid by application users to have that peace of mind. and on top of that, its ALSO a speculative currency, it IS an investment into the future of computing.

THIS is what we are creating, something more than a simple vanity coin that has no real world intrinsic value beyond what the market says its worth. SOIL will have value OUTSIDE of the exchanges, it will have meat space practicality. to get THERE we need to start HERE. these are the first steps towards the future of how things get done. the platform needs to be built, which is well on its way. the currency needs to achieve viability and value. it needs to become a brand. these are the first steps.

and, as a community consensus driven project, we need YOUR help. this isn't about lauding the project, its about having a vision for something beyond a simple currency. when viewed in the larger picture, things such as limited pre-mining and such are very inconsequential. there is a VISION behind this platform, and we need your help to get it off the ground and RELEVANT.

a final launch date has not been set in stone, but when one is, there will be a countdown timer set on the OP to ensure that the launch of SOIL is a fair one, and not a ninja release. the soil dev is working tirelessly on making sure that the release will be a smooth one. presently, there is work being done to streamline the GUI wallet, as well as setting up the social aspect of SOIL with faucets, bounties, etc. the view of SOIL is as a developmental platform and not just merely a speculative currency.

the testnet is up and running and the V4 package at https://mega.nz/#!RxYmXDyC!BKSe1BZlFdTb309rol-DTknAW0x6XB7rvOwtgKVQFHA will enable anyone to come on board and help ensure that things are running perfectly. the purpose of any testnet is to allow users to comfortably install, configure, and test their software and mining setups. *EVERYONE* deserves to have the advantage of a fair start and the ability to mine on the SOIL network from the moment it launches. specifics (block time, reward, etc) are in the process of being fine tuned, and we want those to be fair and inflation proof. these will be posted on the OP as soon as final decisions have made, and in that we have asked for the input of the community of users who will be part of the ongoing evolution of SOIL. there must be incentive for people to get involved with the mining and securing of the network, as well as actively trading and becoming involved with the project.

SOIL is built to be a decentralized organization with fair oppurtunity for all those involved, miners, traders, developers of evolutionary aspects of the currency to have their voice heard and be a part of those significant decisions on what features, updates, etc need to be focused on. this is a collective project, and your voice MATTERS. your VOTE matters in the final decision making.

any well built cryptocoin takes time to compile and release. Ethereum took years and depended on a massive presale of coins. it is, as anyone following the Ethereum project knows, STILL a work in progress.. with Frontier released, there is still no exact timetable set for the release of stage 2, Homestead. for a project to be done properly, it has to be tested, and tweaked and retested. the core developmental team of SOIL will rely on the active SOIL holders to help in that decision making process. this is a project about the COMMON OWNERSHIP of a responsible and democratic decentralized currency. what do users here feel about services such as CryptoVote to ensure fair voting?

there have been many coins rushed and released that "went wrong" and died premature and ugly deaths. we dont want that to happen with SOIL. there have been many coins that have been abandoned by the developers and again, this is something that the SOIL-team does not want to see happen. the lead developer wants this to be an enduring cryptocurrency, and i have given my time to set up a social media presence and to moderate that for the long forseeable future. there have been FAR TOO MANY scamcoins released as get-rich quick schemes with massive premines and pump-and-dump strategies, leaving the asset completely worthless. this harms the WHOLE altcoin world. this is meant to be an open and honest currency, with vigorous democracy and vibrant community input. this cannot be a "just trust me!" sort of development, and that is why we ask for your input.

and, as with any project, after its genesis, there will need to be further developments. there is no presale or ICO involved with SOIL, and bounties for incentives and rewards leading to further developments (wallets for android, translations, bug finding) and faucet donations, brand exposure giveaways, website hosting costs, graphics design and costs, and tool development will require an outlay of coins in order to succeed. giveaways strengthen the currency. i got my first giveaway from XMG (Magi) which i have held on to, and has kept me interested in teh coin itself, and i have purchased more on exchanges and held them.

there are pros and cons to premining and reserves. yes, the developer gets paid for his work, he IS putting his time into the project, one which many will approach to increase the value of their own portfolios, which is, boiled down to its core, why anyone trades in cryptocurrency. bounties can be paid and coin distribution can occur. the difference here is that we can provide a public and accessible account ledger showing exactly WHERE premined or reserved coins would go, and WHY. there NEEDS to be trasparency regarding that, and a lack of anonymity regarding the reserve account should be expected to ensure trust in the developer. the more exposure SOIL gets, the more people will become involved and the more value to YOU, the miners and traders, will be effected. i understand the negative preconceptions regarding premined coins, and frankly, the very limited premine the core developer had suggested is FAR less than with most other altcoins. this inst a copy-and-paste altcoin, soil is working very hard to make this project relevant and long standing. with a small reserve set up for bounties and distribution, this will give the coin visibility in a hyper competitive altcoin marketplace. it creates an interest in the currency, especially from those users who will receive them. a LOT of people can end up with these coins which increases the possibility of a viable economy for the currency, with the hopes they dont just cash them in. even for those that DO, its free money, created ex-nihilo, with a direct benefit to the receiver. this is not saying that the developmental core has interest in dumping these coins, and the limited number held in reserves would be disbursed according to fair processes and input from the community. again, as opined in a previous post, any reserve could and SHOULD be limited to smart contracts which enable the slow release of community reserves for those purposes outlined above. an advisory board could be set up to ensure the disbursement of reserved coins be distributed fairly, and that requires your INVOLVEMENT. for the sake of transparency, i have not voted in the polls regarding premining or bounties.

with that said, id like to understand why, from those who vote against a limited premine or reserve why they feel that way. the same thing can be asked to those who responded positively towards that approach. your voice matters, and your opinion matters. another question i would like to ask is the opinion regarding hard caps to the number of coins eventually minted or perpetual coin minting. thank you for your time reading this lengthy post, but i feel an honest conversation regarding these topics makes for a healthier asset.

regards,
~abvhiael

bear in mind, those who are against a premine, that funds have to be placed in faucet balances, for bounties, potential giveaways, etc. we want SOIL to be much more community oriented, but we also want to get the word about SOIL out to as many people. ETH, EXP, and SHF dont have faucets, (ETH sort of does, but none that would bring its brand to the most people) which im working on setting up amongst the more established and long running multicoin faucets and inclusion in the bleufaucet. as for giveaways, ETH only has a giveaway to the three largest miners at a single pool, which seems to be brought about BY the pool and not the ETH team. it rewards those who have the big mining rigs and leaves the rest of the community unable even approach that. neither SHF or EXP have made any giveaways. im working on setting up a limited giveaway for social media tasks which will be unlike any of the other ethereum clones. to fund those projects which will bring more people to the SOIL community, they need to be funded. a small premine to handle that, compared to the large premines of the other ETH clones which havent worked on bringing exposure of the asset to the public is hardly a bad thing. look at the other ethereum-network based coins.. ETH had a 60 million crowdsale to fund their project and a 12 million coin premine. EXP had an 11 million premine with a block reward of only 8 (itll take over two years for the mining to reach the level of coins from the premine). SHF had a 250,000 premine, with a 3 SHF block reward. we can beat those amounts and make this a more attractive and fair coin, which will increase the value for those that buy and hold SOIL.

in other news, which will be updated in [ANN] post is that we now have a twitter address ( @SOILcoin ), a facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/SOILcoin/) and a slack instance (soil-team.slack.com) which is still invite only, but we want to hear from you guys, we want to develop and evolve this coin into something democratic and where YOU have a say in the future of SOIL, not like other coins where the Devs have control. you can email me at SOILcoin@yahoo.com or at abvhiael@live.ca for an invite. the subreddit should be up and ready later today, and im looking into an IRC channel and other social media presences as well (VK, LinkedIn, etc.) if you missed the post above, the first mining pool at soil.suprnova.cc will be ready for the launch. (ive been pool mining EXP for a few days there, and even with my single radeon R5 graphics card, ive still brought in a little over 1EXP in two days of just letting it run in the background as i work on SOIL)

as the Dev has said, in the [ANN] posting, SOIL will be balanced with democratic control and an orientation for community involvement. we want this coin to be a viable alternative, with smart brand focused contracts, and a vibrant and involved community which will stand the test of time and not a pump-and-dump scamcoin. feel free to write me at the above email addresses if you have ideas on how to expand the market awareness of SOIL so that we can get the word out to as many people as possible!

kindest regards

i managed to solve a couple blocks, but error message "no pending work" came up both times, thus no reward activated. other than that, its running smooth. wondering if it might be a synchronization issue...
