1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Mojocoin [MOJO] - Nxt MS coin w/ free distribution on: November 18, 2015, 06:21:59 PM
I'm using the Windows installer from nxt.org. The NRS version says 1.5.15 Outdated!
Do I need to run the update to 1.6.2?

Yes, update to 1.6.2. After update, there will be rescan of database, which is not short. To speed up the update, go to www.peerexplorer.com and download latest snapshot of database (right bottom of the page). Copy database to database folder nxt_db and then run 1.6.2.

OK. Thanks
not really sure what you mean by copy the database to database folder? am i supposed to be copying the entire nxt_db folder and putting it somewhere? or am i supposed to be copying something and putting it in the nxt_db folder?  Undecided first time using this type of wallet, ya i know it's surprising haha but i'm pretty lost on what i'm supposed to be doing to fix it properly.../update it

What OS do you use?
windows 10  Wink

Here is procedure:

1. Check you have java 8 installed, if not, update to 8.
2. download NXT installer from https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.6.2.exe
3. install it and choose installation directory of your own.
4. to use latest blockchain database (not to download it from scratch) download it from www.peerexplorer.com (right bottom part of site).
5. unzip it to C:\users\XXXXXXXXX\Appdata\Roaming\NXT\. Database file should be in nxt_db directory.
6. Start "NXT server" from your desktop and wait until it is loaded (blue icon will appear in the status bar, you can check status here)
7. if server loaded, open "Nxt wallet" from your desktop. It will open new tab in your browser with login screen.
8. In login screen you can choose login with your account ID or with your passphrase (click blue man in the login field, it will change login option by account or by passphrase)
9. That's all, your wallet will all NXT features will be opened.

Ask any questions, if this procedure will not work, but it should. Smiley

thanks for the help

Maybe it is possible to separate then somehow, indicating which is which? will be a lot of confusion and questions about it in future Smiley

No need, users will use only the secret seed. That string will be published only once during the sale.

When will the sale?

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to create a Altcoin? on: November 09, 2015, 01:17:39 PM
How to create a Altcoin?

1) I have forked all the files in the source code on https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin

2) Then I have changed the following in the entire source code. I used a search and replace tool.
2a) bitcoin to examplecoin
2b) BITCOIN to EXAMPLECOIN
2c) Bitcoin to Examplecoin
2d) BitCoin to ExampleCoin
2e) btc to eec
2f) BTC to EEC
2g) Btc to Eec
2h) BtC to EeC

3) Then I have changed all of the files names from bitcoinfile.xx to examplefile.xx.

Can I just upload the files onto Github.com? Is there anything else I have to do before hand?

Why make a clone of Bitcoin?
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Minimum to start on trading on: November 04, 2015, 05:04:51 PM
For more experienced traders (or at least some experience) there. Which would be the minimum to invest in order to have a chance to profit from trading? I would like to start as low has 10k satoshis, but as I have seen, many exchanges have minimums and minimums fees and that does not feel reasonable.

Let's say that we put a goal to earn 20k satoshis a day (on average) from trading... How much would you see you have to employ to achieve that?

At least 1 bitcoin

Unfortunately, I must say that it looks like this coin is going to decline in value in the short term unless some new money starts flowing in.

I invested only in the long term  Grin

@Moor

Thank You and Welcome to the Team! Replied with the further instruction!

By the way, do you have a provisional Name for this coin we are building? or some fancy nickname we could attribute?

In the Chat we are referring to it as EDON - the opposite of NODE! But is not yet official, it should be decided in the quorum.

the back-spell represents our core value
we are different, the opposite, and our development is the other way around, heck even the code is already opposite =D

me likee likee and i think we should stick to it

Particular, which CONCRETE advantages can the people get from BTC?

Thank you.

Bitcoin is good for savings for the long term

i'm not familiar with nodecoin but i know a little about nxt! what is the difference between this 2 projects and this new coin you are trying to develop?

rosso the biggest difference is that node.js(the technology not the admin) is the game changer, npm (node package manager) the database of java snippets that is at the core of node.js is what makes everything so awesome, anyone can budge in and do what ever they would find useful to share with others. also node.js is very fast compared to java alone and nxt is made on java!!! 19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Visa, Capital One Back $30 Million Round for Blockchain Startup Chain on: September 10, 2015, 07:46:01 AM
here is the article http://www.coindesk.com/visa-capital-one-back-30-million-round-for-blockchain-startup-chain/

Blockchain technology startup Chain has raised $30 million in new venture funding, drawing funds from financial services companies including Capital One, Fiserv and Visa.

French telecom giant Orange SA contributed to the round, months after disclosing that it was looking to invest in bitcoin startups, as did Nasdaq, which has been working with Chain, and Citi Ventures.

RRE Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital and SV Angel – existing investors of the firm – also took part, as well as former Bank of America CEO David Coulter, X Prize Foundation CEO Peter Diamandis and MongoDB co-founder Kevin Ryan.

In statements, Chain CEO Adam Ludwin spoke in broad strokes about the larger efficiencies major financial services providers could potential unlock as the technology matures.

Ludwin said:

"Applied intelligently, blockchain networks fundamentally improve how assets move between parties, and we are thrilled to be partnering with the organizations we believe are best positioned to capitalize on the inevitable changes in market structure that are on the horizon."

Those backing Chain also pledged to put together a “Blockchain Working Group” to promote continued and regular discussion about blockchain applications. The group is expected to meet twice a year.

As part of the deal, RRE Ventures founder Jim Robinson will join the startup’s board of directors. Ludwin also notably serves as an RRE principal.

For Bitcoin this is very bad, how can you destroy a real Bitcoin
