81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: P2P Cash or Settlement Layer? on: March 15, 2016, 08:04:55 PM
It does not matter what people want if it is not possible. The real question is what is achievable.

So within what you believe is achievable... what would you want Bitcoin to be?
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / P2P Cash or Settlement Layer? on: March 15, 2016, 07:30:32 PM
Regardless of current debates over different implementations or scaling solutions... it is much more important for us as a community to have a rough consensus on what we want for Bitcoin. Not in a year or two... but 10 years down the line. That way we can work together towards the same goal and plan ahead.

What do you want Bitcoin to be? Do you want Bitcoin to be digital P2P cash? Or do you want Bitcoin to be a secure settlement layer? or do you want it to be something else (Digital Gold? Smart Contract platform?)?

Please don't just vote, but also give your opinion and explain your reasons. This poll can provide extremely useful info for everyone... users, miners, devs...

And please, pretty please don't turn this into another us vs. them debate. We've had enough of those. Just rational arguments with no reference to people.

  @DO_EAT @agathardlp @emisanle @abcserrano    @FJMartinlawyers @GeographicClub @Abanlex  @OneShotHotels   @serranocallejon @ElCuentoBar @bucarelliweb @scotta1985 @Ibermaison @DejateBesarBar @NewTownMarket

Para eso está:
https://twitter.com/callebitcoin

Y os recuerdo que también hay:
https://www.youtube.com/user/callebitcoin

Los vídeos siempre tienen mucho éxito.
86  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: #CALLEBITCOIN MADRID on: March 15, 2016, 11:43:29 AM

The thing about OpenBazaar is that, because it is FOSS, devs will be able to fork and modify it to make a P2P Uber, Airbnb and a ton of other specific apps... P2P eBay is just the first of many.

It looks like the mempool is returning to normal: https://tradeblock.com/bitcoin/

Only 13k txs waiting now. Below 10.000 unconfirmed txs things will work reasonably well and even low fee txs will eventually confirm.

hi? everyone?
we raised the fee to be confirmed  10 hours ago.
i think that the fee calculation  way  was changed on the bitcoin 0.12.0 version.

Makes me think that secondstrade does not understand what has happened with the FEE EVENT on 29th February. Before the fee event all txs, even 0-fee txs, were eventually confirmed because the mempool (the tx waiting list) was cleared out every few days. Now things are different. We have a 30.000 tx mempool. If this situation persists the economic conditions of Bitcoin will be permanently changed.

Hopefully BitcoinClassic will fix this... but it will take months. Check out http://nodecounter.com/ for growing Bitcoin Classic adoption.

This was all predicted by Gavin a long time ago: http://gavinandresen.ninja/why-increasing-the-max-block-size-is-urgent
93  Economy / Gambling / Re: ★No.1 BITCOIN BINARY OPTIONS ★HIGHEST REWARD 190%★1% DOUBLE DICE★EXPIRY:1~720MIN on: March 02, 2016, 09:45:21 AM
BTW Itsmylife there is no doubt that this is happening because of low fees. You can see here: http://bitcoinfees.21.co/
This was not a problem before because the Blocks had enough space for low fee txs... but in the past few days the mempool has been saturated with 30k+ txs as you can see here: https://tradeblock.com/bitcoin/

This means that only high fee txs are being confirmed.

In other words... secondstrade has to update their fee policy (maybe use the API at http://bitcoinfees.21.co/ ?) if they want things to work smoothly in the future. This might cut into their margin... or they might have to make their odds worse... but the alternative is the huge disruption of unconfirmed txs.

Unfortunately I will not be making any new bets until they fix this... I always pay higher-than-recommended fee to make sure that my tx gets into the next block, but I cannot control what fee secondstrade pays. Which means that they always get my money... but I risk not receiving my winnings...

I would much rather have slightly worse odds (by 1-2%) and have proper fees for fast confirmation. It's not that expensive. Right now paying 50 sats/byte (about 15.000 satoshis or 0.00015000 BTC for an average 300byte tx) will guarantee confirmation in the next 1-2 blocks.

(In my unconfirmed tx secondstrade paid  0.0000964 BTC as you can see here https://blockexplorer.com/tx/9d58bcc0a740f4a462948e29754deea1c8b3b9b8cd730c97b63e38ea3109f7ad
...which means that I risk losing an amount of 0.92 BTC or $400 over a stupid $0.03 in fees)

Maybe secondstrade should start using Ethereum for small-value bets and Bitcoin only for high value bets.

Looks like the tx is now propagating. Hopefully it will confirm in a little while.

i think if you wait some more, it will beconfimed.
we will raise the fee. thank you.

After 72 hours without confirmation the tx will be dropped by the nodes and you can send it again with a higher fee to make sure that it gets confirmed this time.

(nodes drop it after a long time with no confirmation).

Please send this tx again (with higher fee as recommended here: http://bitcoinfees.21.co/ ). You can check that the nodes have dropped the tx and I will not receive double payout.

Thanks

Unfortunately there isn't much we can do but wait....

However I expect secondstrade to repeat (with a higher fee) transactions that are unconfirmed by next Monday...

Hopefully it won't be necessary as the mempool normally clears up during the weekend. We'll see.

Thanks. I'll be patient.

There's an all time high in number of transactions today... so it's understandable that the network is a bit stressed today.

This http://bitcoinfees.21.co/ is an useful tool to calculate appropriate fees.
