141  Other / Meta / Re: Post deletation without notice? on: May 01, 2019, 08:54:48 PM
Also, there are the Spam Megathreads around the forum and if you post there, there's a really good chance to have your post deleted when the whole spam megathread gets trashed...
If you don't post in spam megathreads but in average topics, and after a while spammers start to grow the topic into a spam megathread, your post will also be deleted after a period of time, so you can't be sure and cautious enough where to post...

Sziasztok!

143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 UPDATE: Cache found!!!!!! on: May 01, 2019, 08:40:01 PM
This year  have a tentative plan for a game model that involves releasing many copies (100?) of the same private key.
How do you plan to hide them all within a reasonable amount of time? If it takes you too long, it might have been found before you're done. Unless that's part of the plan, say you hide one copy per day.
Maybe he can hide all the caches and only top up the bitcoin address when all the copies are already hidden.
But also it will need a proper database to store the locations and the clues for each place...
I won't play in the following two years, because America is really far away... both North and South
144  Other / Meta / Re: [Another one, if possible, please] Is it possible me to find my "lucky" number on: April 26, 2019, 05:04:47 AM

Many thanks Theymos Cheesy

I'm really happy that it was not even close to the minimum 775, because I was just a few activity periods away from the legendary minimum at the time of the introduction of the merit system Smiley
145  Other / Meta / Re: [Another one, if possible, please] Is it possible me to find my "lucky" number on: April 25, 2019, 08:55:04 PM
@bitart

Upon checking the thread and reading all the posts again, I can say it is predetermined upon registration and it is confirmed by Theymos.

As it is predetermined then Theymos can tell the number and it is not necessary to cross 1030 activity limit I guess.
OK, I understand, but I guess you have to reach 1030 to get the info (if Theymos will have time / wants to reply to this kind of questions).

Ooh that threads interesting. Do we have any idea as to the algorithm. Employed? I'm guessing it's not based on linear time but something like modulo time would be quite interesting... I didn't realise it was predetermined on registration, mine was pretty low (in the 800s).

Is it possible to know the number where you could be a Legendary? If so, then I'm also interested to know that. Theymos please count me also.  Tongue
Not in advance Smiley
It's a bit different story, check here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5136033.0
Killyou72 is already over the max (1030) activity limit, so he has asked what was the lucky number, and not what will be, because as I can see, you are still below the max. activity yet
147  Other / Meta / [Another one, if possible, please] Is it possible me to find my "lucky" number on: April 25, 2019, 08:28:09 PM
I'd like to ask Theymos to check my lucky number too, as killyou72 Smiley
I'm also above the maximum legendary limit in activity now, and since I've become a Hero I was alway curious what my number could be.
I know my merits are not enough now to rank up, it's not a problem for me, but I'm very curious what was my lucky number...
Theymos, please please pretty please Cheesy
(of course if it's not a problem, I don't want to start a flood of similar topics in Meta...)
148  Other / Meta / Re: Grant Me Legendary Status on: April 24, 2019, 08:58:34 PM
Merit system is broken, i still will reserve that judgement I have. Regardless, i shouldn't even be here asking for legendary if the system even worked properly. I wouldn't have gained hundreds of merit in a couple of days if I didn't even post to Meta.
.....
I don't know why you are so upset about not being a legendary, you haven't even reached the maximum limit of the activity to become a legendary (1035 I guess). Others has already passed the 1035 activity and they are still Hero ranked (look at me for example). This is not a problem, this is just a situation...

Take it easy, and go for the merits, and if your method is to come here and shout out your pain in Meta to gather those merits, well that's a possible way to get the merits because there always will be members who will give you some merits because they like to help the others. I hope you send the gained sMerits to some lower ranked members to also help them rank up e.g. from Jr. to member or above...

149  Other / Meta / Re: Get notification of deleted topic where you left a comment? on: April 24, 2019, 08:42:53 PM
Maybe your post was reported because of anything and the reporter left a message to the mods that the enire topic is deletable, so it's possible that the moderator has deleted the reported post and after reviewed the topic and deleted the topic as well.
150  Other / Meta / Re: Is this normal to reduce activity and posts without any notification / message ? on: April 23, 2019, 09:52:52 PM
Dear OP, please lock this topic (you can practice how to lock a topic at least Smiley ), because it will soon become a spammy megathread and mods will delete the whole topic including your post too, which will cause another decrease in your post count and activity...
151  Other / Meta / Re: Meriting people over 1k merit on: April 23, 2019, 09:46:07 PM
It's more than OK to merit people with over 1K merits here are my two reasons

- Appreciation:
...

- Continued Circulation of Merits When you send merit to members with 1K+ merits, it does not mean that they will not distribute it to other members. Chances are very high that members who contribute so much to the forum will circulate the sMerit to other members of the forum. So why not give them some merit even if it's just one?

I think 'Continued Circulation of Merits' is the key to keep the merit system going. People over 1K merit are usually used to also give out the merits, not only receiving them...
Also, if someone has gathered 1K merit (and I'm not talking about those Legendary accounts who have 1K merits but 0 earned merits over the 1K), so those who managed to get the 1K merit from various people in the forum, those members can usually decide if a post deserves a merit or not...
If you give a merit (or more merits) to shitposter or account farmer, they will merit shitposts or they will sell the merits and merit won't accomplish it's task anymore...

So don't be afraid to merit users with 1K merit, it will help the merit system to do it's job
152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JP Morgan completely changes its stance on bitcoin on: April 19, 2019, 09:34:37 AM
JP Morgan seems to be convinced that cryptocurrency will be a good investments. That is why it was easy to change his mind and create his own coin. He has a positive outlook throughout of his studies about crypto. Therefore, he has a critical expressions about bitcoin before, here he is now. Already a part of this kind of technology promoting his own crypto coin and supporting bitcoin.
I would just modify the word 'cryptocurrency' to 'blockchain technology' and the sentence will be more appropriate...
They think about using the blockchain technology to support their digital fiat system (banking backend) and because they already developing something in connection with the blockchain technology, they have to somehow 'sell' it to the customers (and the shareholders). The customers (and / or the shareholders) won't care about the backend development, because they are not interested. But if they say that they start to create a brand new and shiny own stablecoin based on the blockchain technology, customers and / or shareholders will be happy to buy this development idea, customers will trust the bank even more, and shareholders will wote for the development, because of this shiny marketing stuff....
And they don't really care about bitcoin, unfortunately...

Somehow we need to persuade these members to become active in the forum again.
I really dislike how a few successful altcoins only used Bitcointalk to gain publicity, and abandoned the forum the moment their premined bag of altcoins made then very, very rich.
When the topic starter is gone for more than a year, I'd say it's time to lock the thread.
Something came into my mind reading your post...
I know that auto lock is evil, but:
what about auto locking the topic if the OP don't visit the forum for e.g. 6 months? (3 months, 1 month, etc...)
If OP don't show up, that means that the topic has served it's purpose, so it's lockable.
I know that there are some megathreads with a lot of information in it, but the information won't vanish if the topic is locked. Everyone can open a similar topic, if needed to continue the discussion.

Or, OP's should 'keep alive' their topics, they should click on a button (only visible for the OP) periodically, not to let it auto locked after a month or so.
This would solve the problem of the OPs who open a meaningless topic just to increase the post count and let the topic become a spam megathread, because other spammers are happy to post in a meaningless topic, especially in the off-topic section. I know that this is not the perfect solution, but could limit spammers a bit.
154  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New Lightning Network Wallet: Breeze on: April 16, 2019, 09:41:30 PM
It's surprising to know that they could release a wallet with Nfc feature. I have just downloaded it and I think it would be more accessible and easy to use due to its latest feature. If it could be more convenient to use then it would be an advantage and more users would install it for sure.

So you have tried it already or just download it to know how it looks like? If you have tried it, then would you mind to share your experience using this wallet?
I myself do not dare to install a new application in my phone, especially this one is still in beta testing phase which might be contains some bugs. So I will wait for the official release first and wait for some feedback about this wallet.
I'm also thinking about trying out this new wallet, but will wait for the official release too...
And will use an old android phone  (I hope old android software e.g. Kitkat or something around that time) will be enough to run that wallet... and that phone will be used just for this purpose, after starting the phone software from scratch...
I won't play with new software on my everyday gear., who knows...

Just wanted to ask if someone has more info about that Smiley
Keep calm and report on guys Cheesy
156  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Magyar (Hungarian) on: April 16, 2019, 09:26:08 PM
Én csak most kezdek bekapcsolódni a cryptoba. Többen mondják, hogy januárban volt egy mélypont és nagy valószínűséggel ebben az évben már lesz növekedés.
Mibe legjobb fektetni a BTC mellett?

157  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New Lightning Network Wallet: Breeze on: April 11, 2019, 08:52:34 PM
Looks like this is the first wallet to implement the Neutrino protocol and utilizes the NFC feature. I will definitely check it out soon on my Android mobile(Think that the IOS version will be coming out soon).

I have been using Eclair successfully on my mobile and it is great to see more such LN based mobile wallets being released.
I'm just wondering how they will use NFC on IOS, because as far as I know Apple puts restrictions on the NFC chip of their devices...
Also, I think they don't want another competitor for ApplePay, so it won't be easy...
158  Other / Meta / Re: What with bitcointalk .COM, it's a bit misleading. on: April 11, 2019, 08:29:03 PM
...
Let's start raising funds for this domain... Members with 2 years minimum bitcointalk age must contribute.

Count me in with $50 contribution. Waiting for theymos to make an announcement.
Let's do the math in bitcoin,
1 Bitcoin is around $5,000 now
So the bitcointalk.com domain is rouhtly 13 BTC
I think that 13 BTC won't be a problem for the forum, but I don't know anything about the BTC reserve of the forum
So I think Theymos just didn't wanted to buy that domain yet. (even when BTC was near $20,000 that time the domain name was just a bit more than 3 BTC... good old days Smiley )
159  Other / Meta / Re: What with bitcointalk .COM, it's a bit misleading. on: April 10, 2019, 07:13:55 PM
...
I'd imagine that Theymos would have to purchase the .com and .net domains from whoever is cybersquatting them, and the owners probably would want a princely sum.
I think the owners will sell those domains only when hell freezes over...
They can use those names for phising for accounts or for any forum related data, now and in the future, so why would they kill the goose that laid the golden eggs?
And most of the average joes are falling for these kind of attacks quite easily, unfortunately...

Thanks very much, this is really useful Smiley
I'm interested in these kind of scripts that makes browsing easier/more private/etc...
