Bitcoin Core contributor Jonas Schnelli was recently featured in a panel discussion about improvements to Bitcoin at the 2016 MIT Bitcoin Expo. During the Q&A portion of the panel, an audience member asked the participants about the previous presentation by the World Bitcoin Network’s James D’Angelo in which he articulated the idea of replacing miners with elected officials.
In general, the panel, which also featured Blockstream core tech engineer Mark Friedenbach, Blockstream mathematician Andrew Poelstra and Lightning Network co-creator Joseph Poon, had a negative reaction to the concept of using democracy to handle changes to Bitcoin’s consensus rules. Schnelli used his experience with direct democracy in Switzerland to make his points.

Bitcoin enthusiasts suggest the use of BitcoinCT r:  8 in settling remittances between the U.S and Mexico after Trump’s proposal to build a wall between the two countries will have been realised.

On April 5, Billionaire real estate tycoon and Republican front runner Donald Trump unravelled his plans to compel Mexico pay US$5 to US$10 billion for the border wall between the United States and Mexico which Trump aims to build at the start of his presidency.

Economic damage to Mexico

One major issue which Mexico could face upon the creation of Trump’s border wall is a substantial damage to the country’s economy or gross domestic product (GDP).

According to the World Bank, remittances from the United States account for nearly 2% of the country’s GDP.

Thus, restricting Mexican immigrants in the United States to send back money to their families and friends could severely impair Mexico’s economy as a whole.

Some people in the bitcoin world—the believers still waving the flag for the leading digital currency, which is currently trading at $427—will tell you that the phrase “The Internet of Money” is widely understood as a reference to bitcoin and its underlying technology, the blockchain. But Uphold, a “cloud bank” startup that launched in 2014, will tell you it is their corporate slogan. It applied to register the phrase as its trademark for financial services back in September 2015 with the US Patent & Trademark Office, and is far along in the process.

Andreas Antonopoulos doesn’t like that. The cybersecurity expert and author, one of bitcoin’s most prominent voices, has waged a war with Uphold, encouraging his 47,000 Twitter followers to help him find the earliest uses of the phrase “Internet of money.” Uphold’s adoption of the slogan, he tells Yahoo Finance, “perverts the meaning of the phrase.”

ly the Monteverdi region. I have traveled to China, all over Europe, Canada, United States, the Caribbean Islands and South America. In doing so I have learned that I am a city person. I enjoy not having to drive a car, or have the option if I need to go somewhere far, have good transportation nearby. Rome was the only city that has this plus great weather, people, healthy lifestyle and proximity to so many other cultures including Africa across the Mediterranean. France (Beauty, Film, and beaches), Switzerland (snowboarding, shopping and climbing) and Greece
532  Other / Politics & Society / Re: what do you think who will start the World War 3 ? on: April 14, 2016, 04:52:21 PM
Korea will attack South Korea, the US will help S. Korea and the Chinese will help N, Korea. Great Britain will join the US as will Japan and Australia. Iran will attack Iraq, US will help Iraq. Israel gets attacked by Syria, US helps Israel. Germany, France and other small European countries help US in middle east Against Iraq. Canada sends troops to Iraq and S. Korea. Russia enters the war late Into Iraq as well as China. So WW III will be in the pacific and middle east. Nukes may be uses since N. Korea and Iran seem to have them. Germany does not have the power to start a war now. The US made sure of that in WW II. They would be a small ally to the US in a world war today.

537  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is science a religion? on: April 14, 2016, 04:44:33 PM
Religion and science are two different fields of study that occasionally come into conflict when either forgets itself.
Religion is a spiritual pursuit of Truth.
Science is an intellectual pursuit of truth.
Religion is strongest when it doesn't attempt to touch the facts of the universe and maintains its pursuit of the Divine.
Science looks at the universe through conjecture and refutation - theory and experiment. When it shows that the universe is several billion years old, it is true. When it shows that evolution produced life on Earth over the course of millions of years, it is true.

Blockchain: You Want Me to Trust a ‘Trustless Trust' System?

(Note: This is part two in a series of posts dedicated to the topic of blockchain technology.)
Trust. It's a fundamental aspect of interaction in a civil society - its importance has been ingrained in us since childhood. And it's a concept that's deeply intertwined with our very nature.
The level of trust we have with individuals, businesses, and technology affects our lives daily. This is important to remember when discussing new technologies. For example, our level of trust is a critical factor when evaluating a new technology as a potential solution for providing business value.

The Blockchain Ecosystem May Not be Open Much Longer

MicrosoftThe folks blowing the whistle on these tactics are usually dismissed as crying wolf, oversensitive to standard practices in commercial IT. And a lot of times, they are. ActiveX was an abject failure as open standards took hold on the web, Microsoft has a minuscule market share in the embedded systems and server markets, and their web browsers haven’t enjoyed majority use in nearly a decade. However, they have been successful on some fronts. These successes have been a source of controversy in the open communities they effect, and have locked down development and innovation as the industries affected increasingly rely on Microsoft support.
