1001  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: February 21, 2014, 12:10:27 AM
Looks like we could possibly go all the way down to $200-$100 numbers again. Who would of though we'd be here now? Not me. I wonder if users are buying at these prices now. I only bought coins, but since I bought them at $650 each I've already lost money. My other small stash, which is only 15 coins all from mining so that's all profit, but it would be nice to see $800 again one day but it really doesn't look like that can happen. Maybe I'll just sell out and be done with this bitcoin. I don't think there could be much money made these days, especially if you can't cash out to begin with.
1002  Economy / Service Discussion / Why is MT. GOX selling at $300? on: February 19, 2014, 08:35:50 PM
Is Mt.Gox selling so low right now so they pad their pockets and have your buy order fail and basically steal your money? The only reason I can see an exchange selling at such a low price is that they are counting on failing most of the purchases to take your money and really never give you your bitcoin to begin with. Too good to be true really applies here. Maybe they are only processing %10 of the buys and then %90 stealing everyone's money? How else can be so cheap?

1003  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: NEWS: MtGox resuming withdrawals on: February 19, 2014, 08:24:50 PM
Since I got started into bitcoin and mining a couple years ago even then all I ever heard was problems and issues with Mt. Gox. All the time! Every day I heard issues, problems and just things never working properly. Why in the HECK are people still using that site? I don't get it. They apparently are the most fraudulent site around, trying  every tactic in the book to make as much profit as they can. And the latest, they've gotten so bold they now do it right in the wide open and no one gives a shit. I never put one bitcoin through that site and would never touch it again and I recommend you do the same if you don't want any problems. I never understood why that site was so needed anyway? There are other ways to cash out your bitcoin. Unfortunately the safest way is to personal exchanges these days. All the  big exchanges are just greedy hoarding CEO's running the business to the ground. I'm ready to sue CampBX and file a complaint against then for stealing my money, so you really have to watch what you do out there.

1004  Bitcoin / Armory / 2 databases? on: February 19, 2014, 07:38:07 PM
Does Armory need both huge databases? The original bitcoinD's database, and Armory's itself? I think both combined comes to about 60GB of data.

Delete please.
1005  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 19, 2014, 07:01:25 PM
If BTC was $800+ trust me they wouldn't be refunding anything in BTC.

And bitoramaabama or whatever his name is, he's a company man now. Company men don't participate in the bitcoin threads.

1006  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Paper backup test not working.... on: February 18, 2014, 01:55:45 AM
Well this is why there's a test-backup feature.  We've never seen an example of it not working, it's usually a problem with the way it's typed in.  Have you selected the proper backup version?  Did you enter the SecurePrint code?  (does your backup have one?)

Unfortunately, without seeing the paper backup, there's only so much we can do to figure out what's wrong (I'm not encouraging you to send me the backup, btw, I just don't know how much I can do for you).

If you did not use SecurePrint, you can go to make a backup, and under the "More Backup Options" go to "Export Key Lists."  In this window it will display the non-SecurePrint paper backup root (and chaincode, but if your backup is 1.35c, you can ignore the chaincode if displayed).  This should match what you have on the sheet of paper -- but only if the backup does not user SecurePrint.  I don't know if there's any way to show the SecurePrint version.

Also, if an Armory wallet file is encrypted, it will only ever write the encrypted data to disk.  The decryption happens in RAM only and immediately zeroed out as soon as the data is no longer needed.  The only way to end up with unencrypted data on disk is if you explicitly remove the encryption through wallet properties.

I will mark this as resolved. The test paper backup defaulted on version 1.35C, and I had to manually select 1.35A. What does this mean? Is my wallet an older version or something? Does it need to be updated? I was under the impression that it defaulted to the correct version I was using. So paper test is %100.

1007  Bitcoin / Armory / Paper backup test not working.... [resolved] on: February 18, 2014, 01:40:41 AM
I made a paper backup of my wallet and did the built in test and it kept failing. I must have typed out the root key letters a million times and it does not pass. It comes up with a completely different wallet. There really is only one way to type in all the letters. Just go across the page. In the first field type in the sets of letters, all nine of them and do the same into the second field. I've tried many times and it just keeps failing. Is this a known bug or something? I'm very glad I didn't dispose of any of my digital backups.

Also, is the Armory *.wallet file that Armory uses when running, is that encrypted at all itself? If not then anyone can just copy that file and import it, right? Is there a way to encrypt that file while Armory is running?

1008  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: February 18, 2014, 12:01:32 AM
Well, I'm fucked, PSU went bad on the Avalon and now I gotta wait for a new one and I had good earnings ;-(

Not really related to BTC GUILD but just go out and buy a new PSU.

1009  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What do you do if you have A LOT of bitcoin? on: February 17, 2014, 12:21:03 AM
how are going to exchange all that for real money?

I'd would assume you send it to an exchange, sell it, then send the FIAT to your bank account.

And you would trust an exchange with all your bitcoin? Every exchange I've used, and I used them all, they all have failed at one point. I did eventually get my USD money from them, but some took months to get. And this is with just a little bitcoin. If you have a lot of bitcoin you could be in serious trouble. Being "bitcoin rich" doesn't look so good as it use to me as it did before.
1010  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: February 17, 2014, 12:17:15 AM
I checked you last posts. What happend? Why are you so paranoia? Stop thrashing this forum with your HELP!!! messages..

On topic, we'll see. In a few weeks we hit the $1000 again Smiley.

This is what everyone says. It will hit $1000 again but it never does. I think that's what many of you "want" to happen so you start to believe it. Hell, I bought 2 lousy bitcoin when it was $650 and I'm ready to dump them now just so I don't lose too much. This downward trend looks like it may be here to stay.

1011  Economy / Service Discussion / What do you do if you have A LOT of bitcoin? on: February 16, 2014, 03:18:42 PM
I've wanted to ask this question, but didn't know how to word it. So I'll give it by best shot. If you are planning your retirement or just planning in eventually "cashing in" the large amount of bitcoin you've saved up over the years since I suspect some people have very large amounts and will use that worth later on how are going to exchange all that for real money? Because right now, you still need real money to pay the bills, buy a Whopper at Burger King. While there are some places that purchase goods for you and then you pay them with bitcoin, it is not a real thing in today's world. Right now if I had the option of receiving just as an example $100,000 in USD money or $100,000 worth in bitcoin I would take the money. I even have issues just cashing out $1000 or less with the exchanges we have today and they do just stop operating at any given time. You might be bitcoin rich, but if you can't get it exchanged for the currency of your country, what do you do?
1012  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: February 16, 2014, 03:12:16 PM
aaaaaaaaand.... it's bouncing back already!  Grin

No bouncing here. More like a thump on the floor. Market data isn't working for me via blockchain so I'll use coindesk. We're at an exchange rate of $620, (%-3.85). I feel for those who have mega hoards of bitcoin. I don't know how you cope with the stress.

1013  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CampBX...watch out guys, is it gone? on: February 14, 2014, 02:50:23 PM
It's been a month now since CampBX has stolen my money. After numerous emails and attempts to get it back I can't believe I have to actually hire an attorney and sue them. This is amazing. Companies like this make the bitcoin industry look like scum bags. No wonder why bitcoin gets such a bad rap sometimes. Imagine you work for a news paper and want to write an article, so you sign up at CampBX to try it all out and end up losing your money. What a joke. Of course the news article will be all negative. Companies like CampBX really need to be handled sooner then later. Too many unsuspecting people getting screwed. It is only a matter of time they milk enough people and they'll just pull the plug and disappear.

1014  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase - where are the deposits? on: February 14, 2014, 02:46:02 PM
how are you contacting coinbase?  There seems to be no telephone and their support page does not load.

Telephone? Hahahaha. You have to email them and hope you get a response.

1015  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: February 14, 2014, 02:44:02 PM
There would actually need to be some critical flaw in bitcoin for prices to go that low.   Not the flaw like Gox is stating...
Gox is just trying to spread propaganda and induce a panic into the market. What they are blaming onto the Bitcoin protocol has been known for years and we never had any major issues with transaction malleability before. One thing everyone needs to ask themselves is "why talk about it now?". Gox is pretty much just playing the blame game for some transaction issues that was caused on their end and not due to the Bitcoin protocol. If their goal was to bring the market down, then they succeeded in doing so.. but since no one can withdraw their fiat or bitcoins, it's pretty much an empty market. The only people who will come out on top of Gox's fiasco is Gox themselves, most of their members are going to lose out big time. I hope other exchanges doesn't follow down Gox's path and start throwing their own FUD against the network's protocol either.

"TRUST IN THE COIN"

As far as BTC going back up to the $1000s, I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen any time soon.  I'd say maybe within a 3-4 months time, we might see prices getting closer to the $1000s mark... but only if Gox or some other major player in Bitcoin doesn't screw it up by manipulating the market again.

I've read many times, I think even in this thread it was suppose to hit $1k again already...so it really is anyone's guess on what will happen. I'm a big chicken and overly cautious and just buy 2 BTC at a time. Can't really afford to lose money anyway.
1016  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 14, 2014, 02:37:24 PM
heh check this out..man they have the balls don't they

imho these 1000 units if I read right are refunds imho

https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-76

ie Neptunes back on sale heh sorta

Searing

I don't get it. How can they still be selling at the same price? Wasn't it $10k weeks and weeks ago? Or they are all based on delivery times which is a complete mystery to everyone.
1017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 14, 2014, 01:55:47 PM
Sorry for not included it, but a few pages back they said "We have NOT been making more 28nm modules" um, yeah ok...

So that's how they're doing it faster than a normal datacnter.  It's all just shelves to throw modules on with open windows and fans blowing ... and at that density... again where did they get that many modules? and it would kill them to sell is a couple of hundred? I don't think they'd miss them.....

KnC and others have got to admit that telling people to hold onto btc (or their choice of currency) as upgrade modules will soon be available, then no word for week after week after week, while there's also no word about the progress of Neptune development, then announce no, there will be no upgrade modules and oh, the Neptunes might be late so we're going to offer a "Plan B" as an alternative, isn't exactly "keeping your customer informed" and doesn't fall in the category of good public relations. It falls more in the category of customer and public relations BFL style. Then a video surfaces, doesn't matter when it was made, that drives the point home about upgrade modules being put into use at some point, and not by customers. Again, not good customer and public relations.

I'll say it one more time. The ONLY reason KNC told us to hold on to our coin was so we wouldn't spend any bitcoin on any other pre-orders at other companies because they knew they would announce their Neptune for sale...which they did. It's such an obvious tactic to me I saw it soon as no modules came around and then all of sudden a pre-order for another rig which cost a lot more. Derrrrrr.
1018  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 14, 2014, 01:45:21 PM
No is speculation that they will do that, all we have heard it's that they are building a mine for the purposes of providing either compensatory hash rate to their customers if Neptune is late or if said customers would prefer to switch from hardware customer to cloud customer. You are adding your own spin on the concept to make it appear in a negative light.

We'll need some input from Swedish speaking members, but this looks like video from the new datacentre.

With machines hashing already. Mining the bitcoins to compensate the Neptunes customers in July Biffa?

Not more than 5% though, of course.

Med vänlig hälsning

"Server hall will be ready in about a month."

Again what is your agenda exactly?

Seriously, if they are hashing now and never delivered a Neptune to anyone yet or compensated anyone and still have all that pre-order money how greedy does a business need to be?
1019  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: February 14, 2014, 01:42:44 PM
Since everyone here says it will pump back up eventually over $800, you are buying coins I assume them now right? Or if you aren't buying coins, maybe not that confident in your guess it will rise again?

1020  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [4700 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: February 12, 2014, 11:29:14 PM
I expect commercial interests to take over the role of mining once the number of coins per block diminishes enough—the value of BTC will define was "diminishes enough" means. Certainly within 20 years, probably sooner.

Mining for transactions fees will become a low margin business, and as such will be handled by corporate interests who can invest enough on the infrastructure side to maximize profits. I could definitely see exchanges (or whatever replaces the exchanges) engaging in this as not only a side business, but a service for their users to ensures fast transactions.

So say I from my Throne of Prognostication™.

Once the commercial interests take over it won't be the same. It'll be just another venture for greedy CEO's to scam as much as they can. Just like they do with the US government today.
