100% fan means it will fail sooner or later. What is your warranty?
All my warranty has basically ran out. What is the best setting to run my fan on? Or should I just by a backup fan for the reference card (only the 5870)? Thanks. EDIT: For the reference 5870 I've set the fans to run at 80% now. That should be safer shouldn't it? I really don't want any fans to fail.

Cool
Not really. There are people with like heaps better rigs. But do you think I am pushing my 5870 to hard to run 24/7?

Hey guys. I've just added a 5870 about 3 days ago, and been playing around with the overclocks on it. I am using the following settings on the 5870: Core: 1020 MHz Memory: 350 MHz Voltage: 1.250 Fans are ALWAYS at 100%. Yes it is a reference card also.Ambient temp is usually below 10C. I live in Melbourne and this rig is in my garage. This basically gets around 470 Mhash. Also here is the rest of my rig, I have another 5970, so I was wondering if the 5970 is going alright. I am using the following settings on the 5970: Core: 840 MHz Memory: 300 MHz Voltage: 1.062 This card is reference, but with an AC Accelero Xtreme, hence the bad vrm temps. Here is a screeny of the rig: Also the PC specs if anyone wants to know: MOBO: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 CPU: AMD Sempron MEMORY: 4GB - Some red G.Skill, not Ripjaws PSU: Seasonic X-1250W Driver: 11.12 SDK: 2.1 I will be adding another 5970 in about 1 week, but it will be watercooled, so I was thinking about pushing that puppy hard. Don't worry about electricity, it is not a problem.

Ozco.in is a good pool Eclipse is like Ozco.in with a couple extra really nice features
Initially when I was starting, I was either going to go to Eclipse, due to the PayPal payout thing. But after a while, I heard about OzCoin, and because I'm Aussie, and live in Australia, I decided to back them up and join. (Aussie pride). To my benefit, I had found out that they had 0% fee for DGM. I guess I'm going to try PPS on OzCoin, I'll see how it goes.

Try Ozcoin, with DGM! Oh, wait....
Ozcoin is great, so is Eclipse MC, Bitminter - it might just be easier to post what pools you are considering so that forum members can post their experiences.
The thing is that I've only been in OzCoin. And I have basically no knowledge about other pools. I decided to post here because many people have had experiences with pools so that I can take their advice from their mistakes / learnings.

Hey guys.
I'm kind of new here and was wondering what would be the best pool for me. Currently I'm only mining at 1.2 GHash, but soon will upgrade to 2 GHash. (Waiting for a 5970 to arrive).
Right now I'm mining at OzCoin with DGM. I think that's 0% fee or something.
Any recommendation in which pool/s would give me the highest profit possible.
Thanks

I'm just curious at whether this is bad for my card. I currently have my card (5970) clocked at 860 Core, 300 Memory and all temps seem to be fine. Mining at around 790 - 800 mhash/s. Core is @ 50C. VRMs are at around 100 to 107C.
Is this a bad range for my VRMs? I am mining 24/7.

A word of warning, the 5970s throttle when the average VRM temperature if above 125. If you have two at 110, the other can be at 140 and it will not throttle.
What are your fan speeds? If you're not forcing the fan to a specific level, it will base it on the core temperature with no regard for VRM temps. Better to force the fan a little higher and even if the core is staying cool.
I have an Accelero Xtreme. 100% Fan at all times. Core temps are around 45C to 50C. VRM is MAX 110C. Is that bad? Or should I try to lower it to ALWAYS be under 100C? Thanks

Hi I'm relatively new to Bitcoin Mining and was wondering if about 840 mhashes is good for a 5970?
I'm currently at 910 mhz core, and 375 mhz memory. Stock voltage. Cgminer reports voltage as being 1.050, so I believe that is stock? Or is that too high of a voltage?
Also with such a high clock with this hurt my card? Eg will it reduce the life of my card?
Thanks.
840mhash seems slow, for 910/375. Probably using a crappy SDK. I have no clue as to how you can run it stable at 910/375 @ 1.050v, either. Only two GPUs out of 10 of mine can run stable at 850/150 @ 1.050v. The rest are lower. At 850/150, it gets 800mhash. (well, I just noticed that your screenshot actually shows that you have increased your voltage past stock, which would explain the 910) ed: and your card wouldn't be running at 43.5o, either Well it's running in the garage. I live in Melbourne and it's about 5C outside. Bloodly freezing but good for the GPUs. The GPU also has an Artic Accelero Cooler, running at 100% at all times. Also is that current throttle bad for the life of the GPU?

Too hot. I keep my cards under 65 but most of us run them between 70 and 80 I think? How much do you pay for electricity? Do you have a kill-a-watt? http://tradebtc.net/bitcalc.phpTry different numbers and see what gives you the best ROI. I would try settings around 800/150 or 850/150. You have to find the right voltage. Over 100C is simply too much. It's running at 45C. How is that too hot? 112C is the VRM temp I presume? CGMiner says I'm at 45C, same with MSI AfterBurner, etc. I'm not sure where this 112C temp came from, thus me thinking that it is the VRM? EDIT: I've made them be 890 Core, and 375 Memory. 1.050 Voltage. Every thing seems fine now, VRMs seem to be about 105C. Also I had a look at this, my current on the card sometimes bounces, or throttles, is this bad?

Looks too hot to me.
How hot should it be max? It's been running like that for 2 days straight. Is that bad?

I'm not sure if that 110 C temp is the VRM? I'm hoping it is. Because if it's not the VRM is probably smoking hot. Also what is a safe range for the VRM temp? Under 120 C? Thanks

If they weren't DirectCU model I guess you would of had more customers. It's not that the DirectCU model is bad (we it kinda is for mining), it's just that it has VRM temp issues. Seems like something is wrong with the batch that Asus made.
But besides that best of luck selling the cards

I guess I'll offer 16 BTC for (B) shipped to Australia.
Depending on how sales etc go, I might just buy 2.

This is the longest thread I ever seen on this forum wow
Yeah it is pretty long. I was pretty amazed while browsing through the forums and saw this thread with a ton of pages. Anyways, here my introduction. Hey I'm QiVX. I'm from Melbourne, Australia. My first bitcoin rig is going to be one with 2 5970s so hopefully all goes well.

Very informative guide. Simple rule of thumb, if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't true!

My favourite pool is http://eligius.stIt doesn't require you to sign-up, although it can be confusing to setup. It also has no fees (they only take transaction fees from found blocks), is hop-proof, and it supports merged mining with NMC. I also use Eligius with http://gpumax.com to maximize my profits (thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55819.0 ). For mining software, I recommend cgminer, as it is the fastest mining software I tried, and allows you to control your temps + overclock as well. Alright thanks mate. I think I'll join that pool.
