Lol, this story reminded me of another one...

http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/02/15/131934618/the-island-of-stone-money

I really feel lucky compared to these guys, because I'm able to carry my wealth allot easier without overhead, just in my head.
Wow, that was an awesome read. Thank you.
QFT

I bet we can relate it to Bitcoin somehow Tongue
1342  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - Want a piece of SatoshiDICE? IPO this week before new site launch! on: August 24, 2012, 10:51:37 PM

And annual dividend yield of IPO prices is 19.15%. Why are you defrauding your investors?

Oh noes, he is *only* paying out 19.15% a year! What a rip off! I could totally get that by investing in the fiat world at ... um ... somewhere?
I think "defraud" refers to the incorrect math being done...
1343  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Selling BitcoinMax Account - 40 btc for 32 btc on: August 24, 2012, 10:14:38 PM

Is this still up? If so, what are the fees?

The website is very poor on information.
The title of your post reads:

1346  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - Want a piece of SatoshiDICE? IPO this week before new site launch! on: August 24, 2012, 09:32:26 PM
It opens up an arb opportunity if the gamma passthrough trades lower than S.DICE, so I expect the passthrough to be at least equivalent to S.DICE, if not higher due to increased demand on GLBSE.

arb is riskless profit you locked in, this is not since you can not transfer the asset from glbse to mpex.
at best you get a discount for taking additional counterparty risk.
The trade can be nearly instant, from buying the passthrough, trading it, recieving S.DICE, and selling it. That's just about riskless profit.

Quote
the pass through might also feature higher supply if things arent going well with the underlying asset
Huh
Each pass-through bond is backed by one real S.DICE bond
Quote
and is bound to have higher bid-ask spread.
On the contrary, GLBSE sports a much higher volume than MPEX.
1347  Economy / Lending / Re: 1 BTC loan on: August 24, 2012, 09:26:54 PM
Geez folks. If you don't want to offer the loan then just don't do it and move on. If someone else gives the loan, and gets paid back then that is between exactly 2 people.

The lender and borrower are the only people with anything to say on this matter and the way you folks have trolled this thread with unfounded accusation is deplorable.

By most standards the borrower was a poor credit risk, but that does not make him a scammer automatically. The fact that the accusation continued after the loan was paid back just goes to show that minds were already made up.
By this I take it that you believe:
- If someone notices a security flaw or a scammer, they should keep quiet and allow others to lose their money
- If someone notices an obvious "confidence loan," they should keep quiet and not warn others that it's probably just a scam-preceding reputation ploy.

Are you a social darwinist?

1349  Economy / Speculation / Re: Google Insights for Search is the holy grail of indicators on: August 24, 2012, 07:55:57 PM
As has been said many times before.

Bitcoin price is a good indicator of Google trends for keyword "bitcoin".

Use this powerful knowledge wisely...

Are you implying use for SEO type stuff?
He means price leads google trends, not the other way around

Did you honestly just accuse me of being someone else? Seriously...
No offense but some of you guys have issues you need to work out with a professional.
I can't help you trust people.
Care to tell me why you accepted this loan?

I'll go make a sockpuppet now -- hopefully you'll accept that loan too.

Fine. Point for point, let me explain to you why I think you are all asses; especially each person that has questioned or made fun of me and the OP (over one bitcoin).

1. He has a vanity address, I don't even have a vanity address or care enough to make one. Looks like he took the time to establish an identity or presence here, which I won't even do.
I'll keep that in mind when I make my sockpuppet

Quote
2. He also took the time to quote-for-quote reply to each hater/questionator in this thread. Which I respect, tbh.
Without actually addressing the criticisms

Quote
3. Finally, It is still just one bitcoin and you can kiss my ass and I can do whatever the fuck I want to do with it in the end. Quit trying to police everyone, it isn't your goddamn job. If I want to loan money wildly to people who, according to the smarties on this forum, who blindly call out new users as scammers; well, this is my choice. When you make fun of me or tease me baselessly you show your ignorance in a way that I guess you just don't understand.
Sure, you can send your money to whomever you chose. However, enough scams happen on these forums that it would be wrong to not warn people of them.

Quote
4. PS. 20%/day isn't bad.
It's bad for the borrower. Get a cash advance on your credit card or talk to the mob... or just buy a bitcoin yourself and sell it when you're done with it. Even that last method won't cost you 20%.
Quote
I'm not like you and I'd hate to be like you is my point. Leave me alone and go enjoy your day. Quite frankly, you are wasting my time. I don't understand why I have to explain myself; I don't plan to make a habit of it either.
You have to explain yourself because "non-established user makes a successful loan to a newbie with no rep" is a very tired tactic on these forums, and almost every time it happens, both newbies either vanish or turn out to be scammers.

1354  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] CIUCIU.BOND 1.1% weekly guaranteed bond on: August 23, 2012, 11:11:49 PM
How many bonds have you sold so far? How many more are you looking to sell?

The fund is called CIUCIU INVESTMENTS but I don't see it listed anywhere what CIUCIU INVESTMENTS does or is (other than a .BOND). Is this essentially a personal loan, that you pay 1.1% weekly until you decide you are done/had enough? OR are the funds used to do something more specific? I'm not giving you a hard time because of what I think it is, just that it could use some clarification.

BTW do you have any ratings beyond this?
I do not use OTC, but I do have an account and now I see nimda left me a gracious note. Thank you nimda I will return it!
Good that you said this; I was just about to make sure that the account wasn't an impostor. (That would get a very special score of -10 Wink)
1355  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: August 23, 2012, 10:07:12 PM
Are decreases allowed? Basically:
- I've found a potential hedging opportunity
- I want to get my increase in before the thread is locked but...
- If I'm outbid, I want to decrease back to 0.1 and...
- I don't want the thread to be locked while the opportunity is still floating

LOL. All this to secure a $20 profit, maybe?
Absolutely  Grin
I keep almost all of my BTC in cold storage. While secure, it's not exactly easy to access, and I have a no-exceptions rule of not touching it. Not even for an almost-guaranteed hedging opportunity.

It looks like I'll be outbid anyways.
1356  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Payment Not Delivered - work rendered for "usagi" on: August 23, 2012, 10:04:04 PM
You did your work and should be paid for it.

Theft of services is still theft. Pirate failing to fulfill his financial obligations does not mean usagi is exempt from his obligations.

If I may, I'd like to up my bet to 5 BTC in a strange manner.

- If I do not visit these forums for a period of 24 hours or more, lower my bet back to 0.1 BTC
- If the thread is locked before I call off the above term, lower my bet back to 0.1 BTC
- Once I secure the hedging opportunity, I will call off the above terms; my bet will stand at 5 BTC regardless.
- I can lower my bet back to 0.1 BTC by posting that I wish to do so in this thread.

I think he wanted to divert from Pirate40 drama with this stupidity.
Who, me? What stupidity? The facts? They're facts, matey

I don't think he succeeded, Matthew did well though.
Honestly, I just wanted a central repository for all of the reasons MPEX/MPOE is shit.

SD IPO surely succeeded in scaring serious investors aways from bitcoin.
The SD IPO was/is a tragedy Sad

So much face-palm in a row my brain hurts.
Did you crack your skull?
1360  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Here's where I spew my accusations against MPOE. All are welcome. on: August 23, 2012, 06:05:27 PM
I'd hire an HTML guy before PR. Seriously, the site looks awful

It would literally take an experienced coder less than one day of CSS to stylize and format the page so it isn't a total eye sore.
Yes, literally. Again, the entry fee for 1 account is 20 BTC. For 20 BTC, the site could look great. For 40, it could look as good as GLBSE. There's a plethora of freelance HTML guys on this forum.
