202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 140,000 votes on Dropbox website and counting! bitcoin adoption imminent? on: October 10, 2013, 01:00:42 AM
Wow.

1. Bitcoin becomes the most voted-for request of all time
2. Dropbox disables voting

It's like real-world politics!

Clicked the bookmark daily, then didn't bother to find out why I couldn't access it.
206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: October 08, 2013, 12:17:33 AM
i heard someone placed a 800k usd bet and lost?

pretty crazy

Yup Mech bet 7k BTC @95%. That was his 12th bet in a row and the first one he lost. He started with 1700BTC.
Making up for lots of other losses. The law of averages takes longer with more volatility.

Is anyone whose investment has stayed constant still in the red due to dilation?

Fat Tay Choon went to the Mining Academy in Brazil, east of Satoshi's yurt, where Gavin was kidnapped by the CIA's goons and forced to pretend faking an anonymous decentralized biscuitóbetter than all the fish in the Pacific Oceanóbut also to defray leeches intelligently with ECDSA fighting qubits for 16.8 dree12, or Phinnaeus must fling toilets towards psy‐ops, without potato smoothies mixed with fried chicken wings from BitMunchies.com, urbanchickennj.com, and Popeye's Bitcoin wallet, which deleted Satoshi's premine ability to cheer very victoriously, none like Butterfly Labs better enabled, but also Pirate crashing AIR applications without the express use of interest-free scams, conspiring with fraudulent sockpuppets and PPTs and..., you troll-herding piece of Shiitake mushroom, go lick Goat's horns until Theymos admits to having a quite erotic fetish involving honey badgers wearing thongs composed of soggy burlap waffles dangling from cosmic linoleum-based iphones running quantum chips explodes spewing deadly acid! b!z screamed out "Light is bright like...like... stars." 209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING: SEC Charges pirateat40 With Running Bitcoin-Denominated Ponzi Scheme on: September 29, 2013, 11:46:47 PM
i seem to have missed this story when it happened. does anyone think this has implications for how the us government generally views / legitimizes bitcoin as currency, or at least something of value, like gold?

Did you see the FinCEN guidelines?
210  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: September 27, 2013, 10:27:52 PM
his accusation says that he 'risked' 1.5BTC on me.

That's fraudulent. Make a thread about it.

I suppose that trading on here isn't an option for me if I were to be interested in the future.
Garr255 came back fine from a negative rating. Also try bitcoin-otc.
211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING: SEC Charges pirateat40 With Running Bitcoin-Denominated Ponzi Scheme on: September 27, 2013, 10:20:29 PM
Damn, how did you guys here fall for this crap?

I actually know someone that knows what he is doing and plays with those programs into his advantage, but there's no higher risk than HYIP or pyramid schemes...

I've recommended this before: grab a beer and look at some posts from August 2012. Mobs do interesting things.

Before I go digging around, any threads or links that you would recommend?

Oh, certainly. Maybe you should grab multiple beers and a page-joiner extension so you don't need to keep clicking "next."

The beginning of it all: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50822.0

Here is the best one. "Choose: Walk The Plank or Keelhaul"
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95008.0

Note he says, "chance the outcome of August 14." August 14 was not the end of the bet. This was a nice signal to get out for those of us who were gambling with pocket change on getting out before the implosion.

BitcoinMax - contains lots of taunting by Pirate's customers e.g. "I love how jealous they are that we're getting 7% weekly": https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=83904.0
The MNW bet: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=101751.msg1113117#msg1113117
Gamma Insured Pirate Pass-through - actually paid after default, though it took a while: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=96793.0
Goat's insured ppt - actually paid out: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=98420.0
Usagi tries to sell YARR - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=96221.msg1062097#msg1062097
5000 BTC bet between Pirate and Vandroiy - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=91661.0
How much BTC have you lost out on because you listened to Vandroiy? - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=92581.0
(Vandroiy was very vocally anti-Pirate. He was right, but it got kind of annoying.)
Also everything on this page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=78.960
- Including "I know what Pirate's doing" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=91670.0

And some of mine:
My mathematical analysis of all the "insured" bonds - contains a funny argument between me and usagi, except usagi deleted all his posts: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=96092.0
^serious
not serious:

Me trying to sell a bridge: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=96481.msg1063444#msg1063444

What's the old saying? "Think twice before you throw hundreds of dollars of electronics into the river on a stranger's word" or something like that?
213  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can anyone translate this.. Japanese word. on: September 27, 2013, 08:51:54 PM
Spot on. Looks like every single character is correct. May I ask how you did this with such high accuracy? Smiley

Only the 3rd character looks a slightly off, does this matter?

I'd assume he knows katakana, which is what this is written in, and then used a Japanese keyboard layout.

I've found it handy from time to time to know hiragana and katakana. Between the two of  them, there's only about a hundred "things" (characters plus modifier patterns, e.g. "ka" to "ga" is the same as "ko" to "go" and the same modification (the dakuten) turns sa to za) to memorize.

Also, the third character is correct. Just different fonts for the 'n' sound.

Example Request
Amount requested: .5BTC
Purpose: Cannot disclose. Personal
Term: 3 week
Trusted?: I've conducted trades with various users, have been a long time member etc. But I might not return the money at all. I might take it and never give it back. Worse I migh cash it to fiat and go to burger king or McDonalds.

This guy looks ok to me, except for the joke and the lack of disclosure.

Nice!

Do you need hosting or something? What was holding it back before?
218  Other / Meta / Re: Lending Section should be Removed? on: September 27, 2013, 08:38:39 PM
If you look past the scammers (very easy to do) the lending section is useful and full of successful loans.
219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Play or Invest : 1% House Edge : Banter++ on: September 27, 2013, 08:36:37 PM
^ To put it another way, with many bets, you're also much less likely to lose it all, so it averages out.

Having problems (re)installing the extension; will update later.

I'm ridiculous. Never mind.
