1821  Economy / Economics / Re: Remember when this looked like the end of the world? on: December 12, 2017, 04:03:05 PM
I was around for the lowest of the lows and slow steady downtrend from the gox bubble. It looked like BTC was dieing dropping under $200 and then forever riding that 200-300 bottom level.. Things did not look good.. I even had a bit of coin at that huge crash..

It looked like the end of bitcoin...

I sold over half of what I had accumulated when it came back up around $300 to fund a project I had, and I was really broke then..
But I held on to a good enough chunk to do it all over again, build my coinage up..

This time I was able to build up about 3X as much BTC but I'll admit I sold about 1/4 of my crypto just under $10k when it wasn't looking like it as going to breach the barrier..

I regret that a bit but I did great things with that money for my family for Xmas..
If it goes to $100k then oh well I made a poor choice..

I have studied the BTC all chart on coindesk many many time and scene the same patterns over and over in it.. I wasn't around when it was $30 but I get the idea..

As far as not buying more coin when I could.. Well, I never really could..
Until quite recently I haven't been in a position where I could put money into BTC.. It's pretty poor around here with a terrible economy..
I never bought any BTC but worked my tail off to make all my BTC.. Now what I've made is actually worth something..

You know if I simply had 10X as much BTC I might really be able to look at my life and decide how I wanted to use that money.. I could be free of the rat race for years on that.. But what I have now, eh, yeah it's a decent chink of change but not life altering really..

Deep down inside I knew this would happen.. I knew those patterns on that all chart would repeat themselves again, but I knew it in a kind of way that kept me going, working for more, but not in a way where I would put what little money I had into buying coin..

If I would have bought coin all I could maybe I would be pretty well off now, but it just wasn't justified and things are what they are..

I feel pretty grateful to bitcoin for what I do have really..

Always chasing that almighty BTC
1823  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-12] Analysts Blame Gold’s Fall On Bitcoin’s Rise on: December 12, 2017, 02:37:52 AM

Phillip Streible, a senior market strategist at RJO Futures, said bitcoin futures contracts will hold a key indicator for gold’s future. If bitcoin futures collapse, gold will gain, he said on CNBC’s “Power Lunch.” Gold will regain its attraction as a safe haven store of value.

LOL, they think they will be able to name the price of bitcoin so easily!!!

Watch them get REKT

Bitcoins price finding mechanism is widely distributed, as with most things bitcoin, and one fiat traded options exchange isn't going to change that..

No, if futures collapse, they will get squeezed hard..

Third they are talking like it's a sure planned thing..

Guy is pretty much saying "eherm eherm, bitcoin is winning against gold so we are going to attack its price through fiat settled futures and pump gold back up to where it was"..
1824  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Found Bitcoin and litecoin wallet files from 2012. Lost password. Help? on: December 12, 2017, 02:28:09 AM
I honestly think the best thing you can do is really have a good sit down and start typing down in notepad password possibilities.  Are you the type of person to replace e's with 3's?  Are you the type of person that uses the same password over and over, but just changes it slightly?

Try to recreate your surroundings at the time when you would have created the password.  Down to re-arranging the room, perhaps even re-creating the day that you did it (if you do remember anything at all about it).  Memories work in funny ways, and sometimes just re-living an experience of that day can spark the retrieval of a memory of what you did.

I wish you all the luck in the world.

Maybe try hypnosis? Smiley

Seriously..

With that many.. How is it that you just now remembered this fortune in the closet?
Insane..

If true.. God I hope I get lucky like some people some day..

1827  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: CBOE futures on: December 11, 2017, 07:47:37 PM
"XBT futures are cash-settled contracts based on the Gemini's auction price for bitcoin, denominated in U.S. dollars. Gemini Trust Company, LLC "
http://cfe.cboe.com/cfe-products/xbt-cboe-bitcoin-futures

WTF are gemini auction prices?
Auction?

https://gemini.com/auction-data/

Holy crap!!

They are just for a couple BTC and someone with a bit of $$ could so easily bid that up to squeeze cboe shorters!!

rarepepewallet offline?

Yeah.. Sad news actually..

It was compromised through github somehow, no one lost anything yet but you should move all of your assets to a new address, your seed may be compromised..

Webwallets, hackers, you know the drill..

Get on telegram to find out more..

1832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what's happening with Altcoins ! on: December 11, 2017, 12:51:15 AM
hey guys ,
i'm a trader but since btc got pumping and and still no correction all altcoins is going down , maybe there price is going up in dollars but i trade vs btc ,so i'm losing and can't trade as long btc go higher and all coins go down , i'd like some advice on how are you doing with these movement

When I did the heft of my altcoin trading as a rule alts generlly trended down, it's actually occured to me how different trading on an up trending market is..

In downtrending with no margin basically you are trying to flip the dead cat bounces along the way..

Also sniff out the hype around this and that.. Could find something about to go up..

Probably a physhing email.

Just ignore those emails. If you really want to feel safe, change your password on this site, and do not click on any links.

Its not a mail thats what i get if i login into my old acc on this website.

Read the sticky in Meta.

I'll get right on that..
Interesting, I might like this new feature..

Edit: I'm not seeing anything about this locking old accounts stuff...Huh
1834  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 10, 2017, 07:56:09 PM
Another tough way of  doing it  : Instead of allowing signatures for only premium members, let it done by case by case basis. For instance, once a member signs up ,he can request for a signature approval once in 6 months. If he gets rejected,he basically cannot have another request for the next 6 months. If someone thinks they're good enough, they can ask for approval in a common signature board where mods/admins can grant the access.Involves too much manual work from time to time.

This would end up on a ton of people, both posters and advertisers, moving into Roger Ver's bitcoin dot com forum, most likely. Not to mention it would require an insane amount of resources to monitor and judge everyone. You have to balance out what you are going to do, like I said before, you don't want to end up giving all that organic traffic (which is worth millions) to the enemy as a result.

Personally, I would bring back the noob jail, so newbies are forced to stay in the newbie section until at least 14 points of activity. If you are really new, then you first steps should be there as you learn (of course, there's the possibility that a cryptography expert didn't have an account here yet and would be stuck on there with the noobs, but I guess that's not usual). This would solve all the newly created accounts by broken english third worlders spamming nonsense. If you get rid of only that, the forum becomes way better. Then just keep banning the obvious low hanging fruit spammers manually as of now, and that's all. Don't go overkill with it, or you risk losing ranking points when people search for "Bitcoin forum" on the internet. It's the same as Roger wants to do with /r/btc, he wants it to show up above /r/bitcoin when people search "bitcoin reddit" on the Google.

Right about the "insane amount of resources" part..

You are also right in a way about the ranking but just because of the current war with beecoin..
1835  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 10, 2017, 07:48:01 PM
I understand this problem is something to be upset about but a lot of the suggestions here are bigger government, authoritarian, and freedom limiting..
I just hate to see people always looking to big brother to solve their problems..

First off pretty much all of your suggestions will require more staff for you account vetting and buy in stuff.. That also puts a lot of power in that vetting persons hands. More centralized power is, well, not very concurrent with the ideals of Bitcoin..
These suggestions are also freedom limiting in that none of this would give anyone any MORE freedom but rather take little pieces of it away in hopefully the right spots.. Their is nothing wrong with some limits on freedom when it comes to affecting other people around you, such as this situation, but in general increasing limits on freedom is not a good trend direction to be heading..
I know this is a company but what kind of examples do we want to set?

And about this "company"..
Sure it is probably technically a company legaly or whatever but is this place run like a company or run like a community?
Do we have shareholders or an owner that really cares all that much about what it is ultimately worth? I don't think so..
I see said often, maybe even by theymos iirc, that bitcointalk doesn't really need donation money and fee money and all that sort, so they don't seem too money hungry to me..
About google SEO and ad money and stuff.. I don't see any ads around here do you? Where?
Theymos auctions off a little banner sometimes in this community and usually gets bought by someone in this community.. I doubt he much cares about the little coin it brings TBH..
Bitcointalk dsoesn't need more taxes, fees, value, adsense ranking, notta..
Bitcointalk comes from a "position of fuck you", doesn't need any more money.. They hodl..

Now I'm not criticizing anyone intentions here because this is a problem worth working on but many peoples initial reactions are to just ban this ban that make more laws hire more people, centralize more power, ugh.. You should understand.. What would you say if you heard stuff like that coming out of ted cruz or our new SCOTUS judge?
If you are truly a leftist and don't care about this freedom and liberty stuff then one.. What the heck are you in Bitcoin for? "Profits"? Two, well then, we disagree on things..

So, as I earlier suggested, this problem could be alleviated greatly in a way that centralize no more power, does not increase the size of the governorship, creates no more positions to waste resources through the friction of buerocracy, creates and needs no more taxes or fees, AND actually increases the freedom of the people!

Just create one more forum section, the "No Signature space", where signatures don't display (campaign managers can sort out the posts paid), and anyone and everyone that want to have a legit conversation free from the ravages of sig spam can simply use their freedom to post in this section if they do so desire..

Some things I don't like specifically about a few suggestions..
Now you want me to fork out like $100 in BTC to keep my account nice and have a signature? Really? I don't get paid for my signature, its there because I want to see them succeed.. I have tried the signature thing in the past and found that it wasn't for me.. I don't like to post according to someones rules.. I like to post whatever the heck I want, sometimes 1 liners, sometimes I like to blast out a page.. Don't care about any post quality calculation..
Also I don't like the deleating old threads ideas.. Shutting down ctive spam topics by all means hit em, but leave history stand imo..

Well, their's a morning rant for you guys.. I might be a bit out of place because I'm not as high and mighty as a lot of you so take it for what you will..

Edit: also, this way would also not "affect traffic" and seo etc whatever stuff if you care about those things..
BTW I think screw what anyone outside of bitcoin talk thinks, rnkings, seo, nonsense.. Remember that "position of FU"
1836  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 09, 2017, 11:57:58 PM
Just create 1 anything goes section on the forum where it is coded not to show signatures..

Then you can see where the free market flows and go from there, if it is popular, it could then be subdivided into more specific sections..

It could give real important and intelligent conversations a safe haven from being steamrolled by shitposts..
1837  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Attention all Bitcoin owners! You are entitled to free Bitcore (BTX)! on: December 09, 2017, 11:23:50 PM
Who is going to risk exposing themselves for a few dollars, that's just silly.

Well no one should, even for a lot of dollars.. So don't expose yourself to such risk..
It's just about proper handling of privkeys no?
Is their some kyc?
1838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Attention all Bitcoin owners! You are entitled to free Bitcore (BTX)! on: December 09, 2017, 11:22:01 PM
Hmmm ok..

So I have a wallet seed with BTC on that snapshot. I figure Ill gust create a new seed/wallet to put my BTC back on and keep that old seed with the BTX on it..

Do I have to move the BTX to get the rest of these airdrops to come or will my addresses just keep getting airdrops if I don't touch those keys at all until I want to play with the BTX?

You airdrop will arrive on WHATEVER BTX address, whether new or "old" provided it has at least 1 BTX and that you register such address for the airdrop on https://bitcore.cc

So then you would have had to have had the keys to 2 btc or more in order to have enough btx to get a btx continuing airdrop?
Or buy more btx to add to your address in order to have 1 btx on your address to be elgible but then again it has to be considered incative to recieve the remaining airdrops?

So if a guy has keys to less than 2 btc at snapshot what is he to do and what are his options?

So if a guy has keys to more than 2 btc on seperate addresses at snapshot what is he to do and what are his options?

So if a guy has keys to more than 2 btc on a single address at snapshot what is he to do and what are his options?

1840  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best books for crypto trading on: December 09, 2017, 08:30:32 PM
I recommend the books on poloniex, gdax, bittrex, tuxexchange.com, the exchange of your choice.. The buy/sell books that is..

You can read all the books you want about riding a bike but you are still going to crash learning just as much..
The info you can read will only help you learn how to do tricks or advanced practices, that are useless unless you already have the basic fundamentals down..

Take a little coin and go make a few hundred trades, learn to do, then you will understand what the heck they are even talking about in the books you want to read..

The best imo is to get on an exchange with a good trollbox and ask a thousand questions while you make your first thousand little trades..

Take like $20, lose 75% in your first couple hundred trades..
After that if you can't start gaining your money back, make your $20 back, and then double that, GIVE UP because you don't have what it takes..

I wouldn't put any more money into it until you do that and prove that you can be profitable..

Also..
Forget all about reading anything about this coin or that coin.. What their promises are or if it's pow or pos..
You don't need to care about any of that, it matters not..

Get to where you can read the books on exchanges, feel the momentum, and you won't have to read anything else..

The only info about the coin that is of any value is the current hype/fud sentiment..

Come flip the spread on this https://tuxexchange.com/trade?coin=PEPECASH&market=BTC and chat..

It's almost always a great spread to flip with a smaller amount of coin and ask anything you want about trading in the trollbox..

That's how I learned.. Cryptsy..

I made a thousand trades on crypts before I knew bitcointalk existed..
I made thousands of trades before and while learning the very basics of how blockchain crypto even works..

My first use of a blockchain period was arbing NET to bittrex..
