1  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Gocoin - totally different bitcoin client with deterministic cold wallet on: June 20, 2018, 09:00:55 AM
try deleting the peers3 folder.

it keeps the database of your known peers, but the node will find new ones as soon as it's up.
Thanks, it seems to be working again!

Maybe it would be a good addition to auto delete or re-generate this file or dir if it's corrupt or missing? That way, if this situation would ever occur for some reason, Gocoin can still continue.

It's just never happened to me that this DB would get corrupt.

If you can find a way to reproduce the issue, I can investigate then and find the best fix for the problem.
I haven't been able to reproduce it, the problem did not show up anymore. Possibly it was due to a sudden system shutdown (electricity failure), perhaps on a very unlucky moment, which caused a DB corruption.

Anyway if I encounter the problem again I will see if I can investigate anything. So far Gocoin is working great!

3  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Best android wallets on: May 30, 2018, 09:40:55 PM
I am kind of suprised noone has mentioned Mycelium (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycelium.wallet) yet.

Mycelium was the best android wallet for quite some time.
Unfortunately they have decided to support some shady russian ICO and to develop a bcash module instead of integrating segwit.
But it still works flawlessly for me (even tho some users report they have connection issues with mycelium). Has a nice UI too.

Other options would be electrum for android and coinomi.
Agree, Mycelium used to be the absolute #1 top wallet for Android.

Unfortunately they chose to join the dark side.

I have been running GoCoin for a while but I my server has been down for a few weeks. Now I'm restarting everything, but GoCoin says:

Quote
Database corrupt - missing file: ~/.bitcoin/gocoin/btcnet/peers3/8c14fbfe.dat

I haven't changed anything or deleted any files whatsoever. I already updated to the lastest revision (head) from github but still the same problem.

Is there anything I can do? Can I tell GoCoin to just re-download that particular file, whatever it may be? I assume it's something from the blockchain so it should be able to get that data from the network?
5  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Will Mycelium support Segwit and Lightning Network? on: December 15, 2017, 01:17:45 PM
Any chance Segwit is going to be supported by Mycelum soon? It could make a viable difference right now, especially with the ongoing network congestion and horrible fee issues.

And when Lightning Network becomes active on the main net, are there any plans for Mycelium to integrate that, too?
6  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Mycelium, you are going the wrong way. Please stop this. on: September 27, 2017, 09:05:26 PM
Since a few updates there is a "Buy RMC" button in the main screen, right under "buy and sell bitcoins".

It's a really, REALLY bad idea to include cloud mining bullshit in something that has a long time standing as the very best Bitcoin wallet, especially for beginners.

This is the kind of shit that gives Bitcoin a bad name. Please don't do this. I often advise newcomers to Bitcoin on getting started and I have always recommended Mycelium. This kind of crap would require me to mention "no don't click that, just ignore it", it confuses people. It makes people wary. I currently feel inclined to recommend other wallets for Android (that would probably be Copay or Schildbach even though I like Mycelium's UX much better).

And yeah, I get it, money and funding and cashing out on a large userbase. I understand. And don't get me wrong, you deserve getting paid for your great work and contribution to Bitcoin. Nonetheless I hope you will reconsider this mistake.

Nobody is going to take this shit seriously.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / How to decode a raw tx without having a full client? on: August 23, 2017, 01:48:46 PM
Suppose I have a raw tx, let's say in in hex format. Is there a library or piece of code (preferably in javascript, php or python) that allows me to decode the raw tx data into a json representation or "readable" format? I.e. something that shows the transaction's inputs and outputs?

I know there are online tools to do this, such as Smartbit or Blockcypher. But I'm looking for something to do this client side.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is there something like BitcoinJS for Bitcoin Cash, or how can I modify it? on: August 08, 2017, 03:07:02 PM
I have a bunch of bitcoins in cold storage, and I use a local copy of BitcoinJS to create and sign transactions offline. Works great.

Now, I got BCH for those cold storage bitcoins as well. And I'd prefer not to expose those private keys in some online environment just to get the BCH out.

So I'm wondering: what changes do I have to make in BitcoinJS in order to support Bitcoin Cash transactions?

I did an attempt by including the SIGHASH_FORKID (0x40) flag in the signature's hashType but that was not sufficient. The txs I generate seem OK but when broadcasting them online through e.g. blockdozer it says:
64: non-mandatory-script-verify-flag (Signature must be zero for failed CHECK(MULTI)SIG operation). Code:-26

I tried to look up the exact technicalities of what distinguishes a BCH tx from BTC, but I was unable to find the exact steps.

What else do I have to change in BitcoinJS in order for it to generate valid BCH transactions? Or is there a modified version already somewhere?
10  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Amount sent not im my wallet. on: July 24, 2017, 02:05:09 PM
Are you sure you sent all your bitcoins to one address? Because the transaction has two outputs: 0.79492131 BTC to 1Pequ2gmBTekpy1WU6fkU2otSW7DWeg6bq and 0.00016719 BTC to 1GD1bELPh81EL9wDoRnMnfUeTMEjqVreu.

Do you know if those two output addresses are both in your HD wallet? What does Mycelium say your total balance is?
11  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Can I start a new wallet or switch to a previous backup from existing Mycelium? on: July 10, 2017, 07:23:34 PM
When installing Mycelium and running it for the first time, you get to choose between restoring a previous backup or starting a new wallet.

Once you made this choice, it doesn't seem to be possible to choose again. As far as I can tell the only way would be to uninstall and reinstall Mycelium, so you effectively run it for the first time again.

Or am I wrong? Is there a feature in Mycelium to say "start new wallet" (I mean a complete HD wallet) or "restore previously backed up wallet" after you already have one running?

Of course there should be a BIG warning in there, saying "you are about to switch to a different wallet, unless you properly backed up this one YOU WILL LOSE ALL COINS AND HISTORY". But nonetheless I would love for this to be possible.

Thanks for considering!

12  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Custom Fee on: June 29, 2017, 01:40:18 PM
Maybe setting custom fees is too risky, many users will ignore the warning and mess things up by sending txs with ridiculous fees like 50 satoshi fee or so (not per byte, but in total  Wink). And then complain about their tx never coming through.

But currently, the automatic fees for the Low Prio and Economy settings are really WAY too high. I understand they are dynamic, which is great, but it doesn't reflect the current status of the network and memory pool.

Transactions with 20-30 sat per byte are currently getting confirmed without too much trouble. Typically within 2-3 hours. Transactions with 100 sat per byte or more get confirmed almost INSTANTLY (in first block after sending). Mycelium's lowest setting is currently 225 sat per byte or so, it's really way too high.

Can the dynamic fee algorithm please be updated? Transactions are unnecessarily expensive right now.
13  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: tx fees way too high, even in low prio or economy mode on: June 29, 2017, 01:36:22 PM
I agree there should at least be a warning about it, and consider allowing users to set their own custom fee is an essential feature for a wallet in today's overloaded network.
Well the thing is, the last week or two the network is totally fine. I'm sending transactions with 20 satoshis per byte (i.e. more than TEN times less than Mycelium's "Low Priority" mode) and they are getting confirmed just fine.

Thanks for the link, will check out the other thread.
14  Bitcoin / Mycelium / tx fees way too high, even in low prio or economy mode on: June 22, 2017, 12:14:40 PM
I know Mycelium uses dynamic fees, and understand why, and it's great that you do this.

However the current settings are WAY too high. Especially the low priority and economic fee settings should be considerably lower. Currently they are much higher than would be required to get a confirmation within 30-60 or 60-120 minutes or so. Actually, even with the lowest (cheapest) setting, my txs still typically confirm within 1 or 2 blocks.

As I'm looking this very moment, my Mycelium (latest version, Android) suggests 235 sat/byte in Low-prio mode, and 255 sat/byte in Economic mode. These amounts could be 5-10 times smaller.

Can this be adjusted? It's good to put a warning in there, informing people this may cause considerable delay to their tx, but for users who know what they're doing it would be great to at least have the possibility.

Thanks ♥
15  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which desktop wallet is best, Bitcoin core OR Multibit ? on: October 20, 2016, 10:09:01 PM
"Best" depends on your need, but for regular users I'd say Copay is best.

Definitely more user friendly than Bitcoin Core or MultiBit (and also than Electrum, imho). Copay offers less advanced features, but for novice users I think it's the easiest to use, most accessible wallet.
16  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: October 19, 2016, 10:05:24 PM
It shows the value of your bit coin in the currency you have chosen
Yeah I assumed something like that, however in my Mycelium settings I have chosen EUR, not USD. So it seems a bug (wrong currency).
17  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: October 16, 2016, 04:43:11 PM
Got the latest Mycelium (v2.8.5 / 28500), here's a screenshot of my 'Accounts' page: (blurred out any identifying details)

Question, what are those two "USD" labels doing there?

When checking again later, I noticed it showed "xxx BTC" there, apparently the total amount of BTC in all HD accounts as well as the total in other accounts. By the way I didn't blur out or remove any USD amounts in my screenshot, it just said "USD" there, no amount.

Note: in I don't have Coinapult or Cashila or Glidera or any other fiat related features enabled. And my local currency is set to EUR (and USD is UNchecked).
Exchange source is set to Kraken, if that's relevant.

Is this a bug, i.e. does it perhaps erratically display USD there regardless of what local currency (or currencies) I have enabled in settings?

Can you please add: Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), and Augur Reputation (REP) ?

Thanks ♥

Simple. Quick pump at the very high pace brought us to the overbought territory. What follows is an elevator down, where we are in right now. Expect it to stop, if the test of $500 support is successful.
De test of $500? Not $570?
